ETA: callum is mixed indeed, he is sarai asian coded within the fantasy setting, and im glad to hear it! i was reacting to fanon stuff but i know nothing about canon, so even if i have my misgivings abt certain elements of what i rambled through here still, at least this is not one of them lol
ok there is just something ive got to VENT ive got to GET IT OFF MY CHEST
this is dumb but i was more than a little put off that the royal fam in tdp is black, except the protag, who is a white step-son. and im all about showing nontraditional families, but it just hit me rly wrong that the family is part of their #diversity but the protag is white, for so many reasons
but i wanted to look into it anyway bc his little bro is mixed and i never get to see that so i was just kind of like, i know im gonna watch this show inevitably anyway, just get OVER IT and WATCH IT
and thennn like, i saw a tweet, im guessing from someone involved w the show, mentioning that OH well callum is mixed too! :)
and i was a little excited abt that, tho again put off that he is apparently mixed while looking white but ok, i know there are light-skinned poc.... that is, until i saw meta not too long after about how callum is probably gonna be a half elf and heres why. i didnt even read it and im already more convinced that this is more likely than him being mixed w an actual poc
and im sO SICK  OF IT!!!!!!!
a white character mixed with an alien or a monster or a demon or an elf IS NOT MIXED!!!! i mean ill call em mixed cos im mixed and desperately scraping for representation of what i go thru being from two different cultures, but they CANNOT begin to be something showrunners get to call them as part of their #representation or im gonna tear my hair out.
fantasy allegories just arent doing it for me anymore in 2018!!!!
idk how they are gonna handle this topic in and out of the show, and i dont have anything against it. im giving them the benefit of the doubt, bc it sounds like they are handling a lot of diverse and sensitive/underrepresented topics in a p good way, and it genuinely looks like it could be enjoyable and engaging, so who tf knows
