wemblectra as a seperate character parodying battery electric trains could be fun. They’re a roller coaster enthusiast because routes bring empty cars uphill/full cars downhill (charging battery through regenerative braking) is a decent application for them. Really good at being lazy because they also make sense for janky commuter railroads that only send each train back and forth once or twice and have them sit around outside of rush hour (it’s a stupid policy but eh battery’s better than diesel idling for hours)

I need to research what Britain is doing with battery locos though since this is mostly based on US (and I think Australia)

#i will maintain that replica electra is direct electric only #it’s much more interesting because so few people get how they work and it’s more politically relevant/important to explore #it’s why i won’t show them recharging. they only have a small battery (like a car) for basic lights/controls #they just become dead weight on non electrified lines unless externally powered #(they can also be coaster enthusiasts because some of them have regenerative braking but the 70s-era engines i ref do not)
