Bad Dad Phil bullshit has made me extremely defensive of qPhil too, you're not alone.

I wish I could find my post where I've talked about this kinda thing before. When we saw Phil's whole "you have to be the strongest and protect everyone" teachings taking a toll on Chayanne, that wasn't anything to do with him lacking emotional intelligence or whatever the fuck. He's not negligent or anything at all! He's literally the opposite.

He was teaching Chayanne to be like him, which is a good thing! The only issue is that this idiot bird man doesn't know how to be easier on himself (for a plethora of reasons that I love delving into. Phil is really good at making complex characters even if not intentionally). And he doesn't recognize that as an issue bc he's just always been like that. He cares about the well-being of the people he loves to such an extreme that he pushes his own limits. He's not unaware he's doing that, it's a choice. He does it because he cares. And he's taught Chayanne to do the same, because a hero and a warrior like Chayanne wants to be (and is) always puts others before themselves.

But that's what I love about Phil and Chayanne parallels! We don't see it so often with Phil and Missa bc they're rarely on at the same time, but Missa can get Phil to chill out. Case in point: Mexican Independence Day or the Prison Event. And in the same way, Tallulah can get Chayanne to chill out. That's not to say they're caretakers, obviously. That's another yikes interpretation I see a lot. But the fact that the people Phil and Chayanne love most are the ones who can get them to take it easy and feel a little lighter despite all the pressure they put on their own shoulders. OUGH.

Phil isn't negligent or emotionally dense or whatever. Not in general and especially not towards Chayanne. Phil cares so deeply and extensively for the people that are important to him that he'll sacrifice whatever he reasonably can for them. And he's taught Chayanne to do the same. The toll that was taking on them both when things were especially grim on the island isn't a sign Phil's a bad parent. Shit was fucked up, of course they were stressed and struggling!!!

NGL the whole 'Chayanne is a Glass Child who needs Missa because Phil doesn't realize things' irrationally upsets me

It's almost always worded as if qPhil neglects his son just because he doesn't get emotional context clues (which, gross. Side eyeing you immediately if you put it like that). Which he DOESN'T. Are we not watching the same thing? Are we not all seeing just how precious Chayanne is to qPhil? Just because he doesn't do emotion talks unless it's right in front of his face doesn't mean he doesn't care

Chayanne doesn't need qMissa because qPhil 'doesn't get him' or 'prioritizes Lullah'. Chayanne needs qMissa because he misses his papa, just as much as qPhil and Lullah do

Maybe I'm just oversensitive because of all the Bad Dad Phil things that happened during the DSMP, but it just feels like it's falling down a similar line
