ok heres my apology for fireafy movie posting. no more fireafy movie
freesmart is evil leafy’s #1 opp for the entire length of the competition. she tries to stay out of their drama (especially around bfdia 12-14 when the huge woah bunch/freesmart rivalry starts) but she cant help wanting to kill and murder them
theyre also just mean to her. they went from being scared of her to purposefully provoking/antagonizing her because it could keep her from becoming too close to people and even draw the ire of the viewers and get her out of the game.
Tumblr media
the majority of her hatred is pointed at pencil, but she’s attacked book the most. her team has a tendency to leave her behind which makes her an easy target
at this point book is used to it.

August 1994
The florescent lights of the hospital waiting room were starting to give you a headache.
They were way too bright and flickered every so often that it made you dizzy to look at them. But you needed something to focus on to stave off boredom, so you focused your attention on the clock on the wall.
It read just after midnight and you silently cursed yourself, quickly pulling out your flip phone and dialing your mom’s number.
She was probably asleep by now, but thinking about her possibly waiting up and worrying made your stomach turn. The line rang for a moment, but then the ending tone chirped and you were left with her answering machine.
“Hey, Mom. Uh, we had a little accident at practice. Luke was practicing his guitar throw and he kind of threw out his shoulder. I’m gonna drop him off at home and then I’ll probably just stay at the studio so I’m not biking home so late. Okay, love you. Bye.”
You hung up the phone and shoved it in your pocket just as Luke appeared from behind the door. The nurse said something to him that made his eyebrows furrow but he nodded. As you got closer, you realized that his right arm was wrapped in a sling.
“So, you’re not dying?” You joked.
“I might as well be.” Luke pouted, lacing his other arm through yours as you start to walk out of the building and into the parking lot. “They said I can’t play guitar for two weeks.”
You hummed sympathetically, knowing more than anyone how much that was going to drive him crazy. “This is what you get for trying to be all ‘Rockstar’”
“Excuse you.” Luke said. “I am a rockstar.”
“Uh-huh.” You sarcastically nodded.
“You’re a jerk.” Luke grumbled petulantly, resting his head on your shoulder. “Here I am, in unimaginable pain and you have no sympathy.”
“Here’s a tip for the future, if you want sympathy then don’t make me drive through Hollywood past midnight.” You teased, lightly shaking him to show that you weren’t actually serious.
“I’m still surprised that Bobby let you drive ‘Amber’.” He gestured to the car you were walking towards.
‘Amber’ was a present that Bobby had gotten for his birthday a few years earlier and it was his most prized possession. Normally, he never would’ve let you take it, but he didn’t feel like driving and taking Luke to the hospital in the basket on your bike seemed a little impractical. So he had handed over the keys reluctantly.
“You got something to say about my driving skills, Patterson?” You asked as you unlocked the car and settled into the driver's seat. Luke got comfortable in the passenger seat, and winced as he looked over at you.
“Don’t get me wrong, (Y/n). You are many things,” He said. “But a good driver isn’t one of them.”
You flipped him off as you started the car and started pulling out of the parking lot. It was quiet for a minute, but just as you turned back on the street, Luke turned on the radio and a familiar song filled your ears.
“Mmm, yeah!
Tonight, I want to give it all to you,”
“Oh no.” You laughed, knowing exactly what you were in for from the way that Luke’s eyes lit up. He grinned as he cranked up the volume and shifted in his seat as much as he could, ready to give you the performance of a lifetime.
‘In the darkness, there's so much I want to do
And tonight, I want to lay it at your feet
'Cause girl, I was made for you
And girl, you were made for me,’
You were trying your best to keep your eyes on the road, but it was hard when Luke was being so frustratingly cute.
His hair was still messy from rehearsal so it stuck up in different directions and he had a dorky smile on his face as he drummed his fingers against the center console. You pulled up to a red light and Luke looked at you expectantly.
You rolled your eyes, but gave in, taking one hand off the wheel to make a makeshift microphone. Luke grinned as you both began to sing.
‘I was made for lovin' you, baby
You were made for lovin' me
And I can't get enough of you, baby
Can you get enough of me?’
One song turned into two, then three, then before you knew it, you had pulled onto Luke's street.
Unlike the rest of the neighborhood, every light in the Patterson household was glowing bright yellow into the night and Luke let out a heavy sigh.
"Thanks for driving me." He said, his voice suddenly a little quiet. You looked up to the window to see the shadows of Luke's worried parents as they passed the curtains and suddenly the levity in the air was gone.
"Of course." You said.
You both knew what was about to happen.
Luke had told you all about the famous Emily Patterson meltdowns, and how they had been getting more and more frequent since he formed the band. Luke spraining his shoulder was only going to give his mom more reason to push Luke away from music.
From your music.
"Hey," You reached over and interlocked his pinky with yours, making Luke raise his eyes from his feet. "Don't let her get in your head, okay? Our music is important, and I know she'll realize that someday."
Luke’s eyes held yours for what seemed like an eternity before lightly squeezing his pinky around yours. “How do you always know what to say?”
You laughed. “’Cause I’m the greatest best friend ever.”
Luke smiled, his eyes slowly drifting from your still connected hands back up to your face. “Yeah, you are.”
The softness in his voice made your heart skip a beat. “I’m serious though. We’ll get into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame someday and you’ll prove her wrong.”
Luke learned a little closer, his voice practically a whisper, "Is this your way of admitting that I actually am a rockstar?"
"Oh, shut up." You groaned as you threw your head back. "You're the worst, you know that?"
"You love me." Luke retorted.
"Unfortunately." You deadpanned. "Now get out of the car, dork."
Luke fake pouted as he wiggled out of his seat and started walking towards the door, he gave you a quick grin and a wave before disappearing into his house.
Once he was out of sight, you let out a sigh and leaned back against the seats, trying to remember the way his hand felt in yours.

2020
"(Y/n)! Where have you been?"
Alex demanded the second you stepped into the studio, a worried expression on his face. As soon as you left the diner so late, you knew that a lecture from Alex was coming.
"I’m sorry, Al." You said. "I just lost track of time."
"Were you with that guy from the diner?" He asked, crossing his arms and raising his eyebrow.
"Someone's in trouble." Reggie loudly whispered to Luke who was next to him on the couch. Just like usual, Luke barely spared you a glance before he glued his eyes back to his songbook.
"I don’t think you have any room to be teasing anyone about cute ghost boys.” You said, mirroring his position. “How was your afternoon with Willie?”
Across the room, you could’ve sworn Luke’s writing got heavier against the page. But when you looked over at him, he gave no other indication he was paying attention.
“Don’t change the subject,” Alex's cheeks turned a little pink but he stood his ground. “You’ve been gone for hours.”
“Hey,” You walked up and rested your hands on his shoulders. “I’m sorry I made you worry. But you don’t have to. I’m good.”
“Of course I’m gonna worry.” Alex said, finally dropping his grumpy face and nudging you. “What else are best friends for?”
This time it wasn’t your imagination, Luke’s writing was definitely getting harder, enough to where it was going to rip a hole in the paper. Reggie and Alex noticed this time too and you all exchanged confused looks but before anyone could say anything, Luke jumped up from the couch.
“So! We should get working on this song.” He puts the page on the piano for you all to read. “I could use your help on the bridge, (Y/n).”
Alex shot you one last confused look and you shrugged before shifting your focus to the song. It was mostly finished, and with Julie’s poem as a guide for the lyrics, you were confident that it would be one your best songs yet.
Next to you, Luke scanned the page with the edge of his pencil, pointing at things he wanted your opinion on. Even with all the tension surrounding the two of you lately, it was nice to know that you were still a great team when it came to music.

For someone who learned that ghosts exist, that four of them from the 90′s were living in her best friends garage, and that they were all in a band together in one afternoon,
Flynn took the news surprisingly well.
Which meant that once Julie agreed to join the band, Flynn immediately started coming up with T-shirt ideas and new band names. You weren’t surprised at all when Julie announced that Flynn had booked a gig at the school dance a few days later.
You had all decided on the setlist that morning and had been practicing all day. Which meant by mid-afternoon, you had everything memorized. Since it was the first performance with Julie as a part of the band, you figured that letting her take the lead with vocals would be a good idea.
During the second break of the day, Luke and Reggie were messing around up in the loft, leaving you and Julie with nothing to do. So she offered to teach you a little about piano. It was a slow-going process but you were slowly getting the hang of it. "Okay, so, like this?"
Julie watched carefully as your hand flew across the keys. You miraculously played all the right notes to the song that Julie had taught you over the past half-hour and she beamed.
“Yeah! That’s perfect!” She said, “Play it again.”
Your finger was about to press down on the key, but then Alex phased through the doors. Ever since yesterday, you had been waiting for a moment to tease him about Willie. It was only fair since he just grilled you about being out all day.
“Hey, Al.” You greeted as you stepped away from the keyboard and wiggled your eyebrows at him. “And just where have you been?”
“Yeah, man, we gotta start practicing.” Luke said.
“For what?” Alex asked just as Flynn came strutting into the room. You noticed the colorful paper in her hand and nodded your head toward it with a grin.
“For that.”
Flynn set the paper down on the keyboard to Julie to see.
Alex whined as he looked it over. “Aw, man. We’re playing a dance?”
“Yeah, it’s how you build a following these days.” Luke said as he plopped down into a chair.
“Yeah, get with the program, Alex.” Julie said and Luke laughed.
The sound drew your eyes to his face and you can’t help but stare at him as you tried to remember the last time you and Luke had joked around like that. It used to come so naturally, but now even just being around Luke felt like a ticking time bomb of awkwardness.
Luke’s eyes flitted up to yours for just a second and for the next few moments you couldn’t help but wonder if he was thinking the same thing.
Flynn shouted, breaking you out of your thoughts. “The band is here?”
She then proceeds to wave to the wrong side of the room and you laughed as Julie gestured towards where you all were actually sitting. You all still waved back despite knowing she couldn’t see you.
“Okay, so now that Alex has graced us with his presence, we should get back to rehearsing.” Luke said and everyone nodded in agreement.
But before any of you could move, Carlos strolled in. “Hey, Julie, remember those orbs from dad’s pictures? I think they’re ghosts.”
Julie’s eyes went wide as she looked at the photos Carlos set on the keyboard right in front of her. She looked back and forth between all of you as Carlos rambled on.
“But don’t worry.” He said as he spun in a circle. “This room is clean, I’m not getting any ghost vibes.”
You couldn’t help but laugh. Carlos was exactly what you always pictured a little brother would be like. You had always wanted a sibling, but the closest you ever got was Reggie.
“If they come back, I’ll protect you.” Carlos puffed out his chest a little. “Because I’m the man of the house.”
Julie raised an eyebrow. “Isn’t dad supposed to be the man of the house?”
“There can be two.” He said as he pulled a salt shaker out of his pocket. “According to the internet, salt burns out their souls.”
Your eyes all got wide and you backed up until you were almost against the wall. Reggie and Luke both yelped and jumped up as Carlos spun in another circle. Alex screamed as salt went right through his torso, but he straightened a second later with a sheepish smile.
“I’m okay.”
“You’re such a drama queen.” You snort as Alex flipped you off. Julie nodded at Flynn to distract Carlos and she led him out through the doors and back up to the house.
Once they had left, you turned to Julie with an excited smile. "Wait, before we start, I wanted to show you some old Sunset Curve songs."
"Ooh, okay!”
Luke opened his songbook and a page quickly fell out. You instantly recognized the cramped but neat handwriting and laughed at Reggie. "'Home Is Where My Horse Is'? Again, Reg?"
Reggie beamed. "It's a gift."
"Thanks, Buddy." Luke patted his shoulder before opening his songbook to a page in the middle and laying it across the piano for Julie to see. 'I think you’d kill this one."
Julie’s eyes scanned the page for a moment before flipping through the book. "Who's Emily?"
The color drained out of Luke's face as he scrambled for the journal. But Julie kept it just out of his reach. "And this another one, 'She Is Love’? Who knew you were such a romantic?"
You shared confused looks with Alex and Reggie. Of course, you all knew about ‘Unsaid Emily’. Luke always eagerly shared every part of his music with the band, even if it was just a few scribbled lines or a riff he thought of off the top of his head.
But it was clear from the guy’s faces that none of you had ever heard this song. Luke writing a love song was weird in itself, but him not telling anyone about it was even weirder.
"It's just something I tried." Luke said, a faint blush on his cheeks. "But you should flip to the next one. It's got a killer beat."
He played one of the first songs you had ever written for Sunset Curve 'Last Place' and Julie nodded along with a confused look. "So you wanna use a sample?"
"What do you mean?" You asked.
"Sample someone else's music." She explained. "I've heard that riff a million times. It's a classic Trevor Wilson song."
"Who?"
With a couple of clicks on her computer, Julie pulled up a picture of a middle aged guy leaning up against a guitar and your head started spinning.
"Guys, is that...?" You trailed off, hoping that you were wrong.
"It's Bobby." Luke finished.
"Seriously? I just told you his name is Trevor." Julie said.
Alex ran his hands through his hair, a slight scowl settling on his face. "Okay well then he changed it. That's definitely Bobby, he was our rhythm guitarist."
"He looks so old." You said, resisting the urge to reach out and poke the screen.
"He looks like a substitute teacher." Alex added, producing a slight chuckle from Reggie.
"Julie, what were his other songs?" You asked. You had a feeling the bad news was only beginning.
"'Get Lost'." She said and your heart sank even further.
"I wrote that." Luke said as he tugged his strap over his head. You could tell he was getting angry beneath his calm exterior, and the same feelings were rising up inside you as Julie went on.
"’Long Weekend'?' She continued.
"That one too." Reggie said. "It took (Y/n) and Luke like a month to finish."
"This is freaking me out!" Julie rubbed her temples. "This whole time I thought you were connected to my mom. But you're actually connected to Carrie's dad?"
"Add it to our list of questions." Alex sighed, his leg bouncing as he sat in front of his drum set.
“We used to talk about music all the time.” Julie said sadly. “He never mentioned you guys.”
"Of course not." You scoffed and Luke walked across the room and threw a dart at the board with enough force to put a hole in the wall. “He takes all the credit and doesn’t even mention us.”
“And he’s rich.” Julie flipped her computer screen around to show a photo of a huge mansion. “He has his own helicopter.”
Luke abandons the darts and makes his way over to the screen as Alex jumps up. “Man, we live in a garage!”
“It’s not about the money.” Luke huffed. “It’s about the music!”
Reggie whined. “It’s a little bit about the money.”
“A little about the money.” Alex emphasized.
“He could have at least shared it with our families.” You said, thinking about your mom and how she used to work extra shifts to take care of the both of you.
Reggie nodded in agreement. “Then maybe my parent’s house wouldn’t have gotten turned into a bike shack.”
Luke took a deep breath. ”What he did was steal our legacy.”
There was a moment of tense silence before he spoke up again.
“Where does he live?”
Julie hesitated. It was clear that all of you were angry, but Luke was on another level. His music was everything to him and being betrayed by Bobby was clearly getting under his skin. You gave her a pleading look and she sighed.
“Above the beach in Malibu.”
Luke glanced at the three of you, asking a silent question. You all nodded and Luke threw on his jacket, a look of determination on his face. “Let’s go teach him a lesson.”
Julie got up from the bench and tried to protest, but you all phased away.
-
As you walked into the front door of the mansion, a million memories raced through your head.
Of days when the five of you would go down to the pier or the park and play for hours, or take a drive around the city in Bobby’s car and talk about being famous one day. You used to joke about someone breaking off and starting a solo career, never actually thinking it would happen.
But clearly Bobby took it a little too seriously.
You and Alex walked to one side of the house while Luke and Reggie searched the other side. Every wall you could see was covered in awards and photos of his performances along with a giant portrait of his face right above the living room. From a little further down the hall, Alex shouted your name and you walked over to see him pointing at a display of shiny silver records.
“Have you seen these records? They’re Platinum.” He said.
“Platinum?” You repeated in disbelief. You ran your hands along the frame and were shocked that you could actually touch it. Across the room, Luke grumbled.
“He recorded ‘My Name Is Luke’.” He said. “My name is Luke!”
Suddenly, you heard the front door open and Bobby walked in.
“There he is!” Reggie called and you all turned to face him as he walked up the stairs. You snorted at his outfit choice and Reggie scoffed, clearly thinking the same thing. “He wears sunglasses indoors.”
Luke and Reggie started bouncing up the stairs after him but you and Alex hung back.
“Wait!” Alex called. “You know, It’s my first time haunting someone. I want it to be special.”
You stifled a laugh as Luke and Reggie exchanged confused looks before continuing up the stairs.
“I made that weird, didn’t I?” Alex cringed and you patted his shoulder.
“Definitely.” You laughed as you nudged him forward. “Come on.”
You reached the top of the stairs just as Reggie and Luke phased through a door at the end of the hall. Alex was quick to follow but you found yourself stopped in front of what you assumed was Bobby’s office.
It was a huge room with expensive guitars and fancy furniture. It looked like every other room in the house, but for some reason, you felt like you needed to look in there.
Alex noticed your hesitation and frowned. “You coming?”
“I think I’m gonna look around a little more.” You said.
“You sure?” He raised an eyebrow and you nodded.
Once he was gone, you walked into the room and spun around, taking in the sight of even more awards lining the walls. Your blood boiled thinking about all the hours you had spent writing them only for Bobby to take the credit.
You crossed to the desk to find the bottom drawer cracked open. You tried not to open it, but your curiosity won out. It slid open and you saw that it was completely empty except for an old shoebox that was pushed all the way to the back.
The lid was covered with a thin layer of dust like it hadn’t been opened for ages. It took a minute of pulling, but you finally got the lid off and peered inside.
The first thing you saw was a guitar strap. It was black with white skulls and flowers lining the sides. You recognized it instantly as the one Alex got Bobby for his 17th birthday.
The second was a picture of Sunset Curve playing at the winter formal freshman year. You cringed while looking back at your questionable fashion choices, but the memory still brought a smile to your face.
Finally, there were a few picks spread out across the bottom of the box, and a faded napkin from the diner.
A wave of confusion and regret washed over you.
So Bobby hadn’t forgotten about all of you.
Maybe he was a music-stealing weasel that you wished you could deck in the nose. But why would he keep all of this stuff if he still didn’t care deep down? If that seemingly always grumpy but secretly dorky boy you had known wasn’t still in there somewhere?
Suddenly, you heard screaming down the hall and you quickly closed the drawer before following the noise. It led to the bathroom door, where Luke and Reggie leaned up against the wall as Alex held the door shut. Then he backed up and the door swung open.
Bobby stumbled out with a terrified look on his face, running down the stairs while he mumbled to himself. The boys laughed and high-fived, grinning at you before phasing out again. You groaned and started walking downstairs where Flynn was sitting on the couch rambling to Carrie as Julie snuck into the backyard.
You followed Julie cautiously, knowing that she would probably be mad at you for leaving earlier. When you walked through the screen door and heard her start to lecture the boys, you knew you were right.
“So, did you guys have fun?” She asked, crossing her arms.
“You would do the same if he stole your music.” Luke said defensively.
“But you guys have new music with me.” Julie added. “And the best way to get back at him is for this band to do great. First we have to play dances, then clubs.”
“Then tours. I know.” Luke said and Julie sighed.
“I’ll see you guys at the school. We go on at 9:00.” She frowned. “Please don’t be late.”
“We’ll be there.” Alex said reassuringly. “Don’t worry.”
Julie turned and walked back through the screen door, giving you a tight-lipped smile as she passed.
“I don’t care what Julie says. I’m glad we scared Bobby.” Reggie said as he glared up at the mansion.
“I mean, maybe it was a little harsh.” You said and all of them stared at you in disbelief.
“Harsh?” Luke sputtered, like he couldn’t believe that just came out of your mouth.
“I found some stuff upstairs.” You tried to explain.
“What kind of stuff?” Reggie asked.
“The picture of us playing back in freshman year, some of our old picks, his old guitar strap.” You said, but the boys didn’t look convinced. “Guys, Bobby was our friend. We shouldn’t forget that.”
Alex and Reggie looked a little conflicted, but Luke didn’t budge. “How are you so cool with this?”
“I’m not!” You sighed, talking a little louder than you meant to. “God, of course I’m not okay with it, Luke. I put just as much of myself in those songs as you did. But I think we’ve done enough. Besides, it's not like we can even confront him anyway.”
“Maybe we can.” Alex said and you all turned to look at him. “I mean, Willie knows a lot about ghost stuff. Maybe he knows a way we could talk to him.”
“Let’s go find out.” Luke smiled mischievously.
You frowned but nodded. “You guys go. I’ll meet you at the dance.”
“(Y/n)-” Luke started but you had already disappeared in a flash of bright white.
-
If there was anything you didn’t miss about being alive, it was school dances.
You were always wrapped up in work or band stuff to be able to go, let alone ask anyone to be your date. Playing at the freshman winter formal was the first and only time you had ever set foot in a dance until tonight.
Your eyes scanned the gym in awe as you followed Julie through the dancing crowd. There were bright lights and balloons everywhere. There were a few kids dancing but it wasn’t very crowded, but it was still early and you hoped more people would be there to see you perform.
Once you and Julie reached the stage, Flynn grinned from behind her DJ booth and gestured to the backstage area. Julie fiddled with the bottom of her shirt nervously as you both walked behind the curtain.
Flynn gave Julie a hug and you laughed as she flipped her hair over her shoulder. “Are they here?”
“(Y/n) is.” Julie explained and Flynn waved in your general direction in response. “The boys will be here later. At least I hope.”
“I’m sure they will be.” You tried to reassure her. “They know how important this is.”
Flynn nudged Julie’s shoulder with a grin. “Well, let’s get your stuff set up then.”
-
By the time 11:00 rolled around, you were ready to track the boys down and kill them again.
The dance floor was twice as crowded as it was when you got there, and everyone was impatiently waiting for the main performance. You knew that wherever the boys were, they must’ve just lost track of time and didn’t know they were late. But that didn’t stop you from being angry. Especially when you saw the look on Julie’s face.
“Hey,” You sat on the floor next to her while she stared sadly at the projector. “I’m sorry they’re not here.”
Julie just shrugged. “I was really looking forward to playing tonight.”
Your eyes drifted to the crowd, then to the projector, then to Flynn and you got an idea. “Maybe we still can.”
She furrowed her eyebrows but there was a spark of curiosity in her eyes. “What do you mean?”
“We can perform the songs. Just the two of us.” You started. “Flynn can play some backing tracks and we can still rock this place!”
Julie looked nervous and a little hesitant but she called for Flynn and the girl raced over immediately. She explained the plan quickly and Flynn grinned in approval and assured you that she would take care of the backup music.
A pit of butterflies opened in your stomach. You hadn’t performed without the boys for years, but with Julie to lean on, you were fairly confident that you could get through it without throwing up.
You went on with Julie as planned, pushing thoughts about what the boys must be doing off to the side so you could focus on the performance at hand. It wasn’t quite the same, but it didn’t seem like the audience could tell. You belted your hearts out as they danced along, and both yours and Julie’s nerves disappeared as you got lost in the music.
It ended with a thunderous round of applause and you and Julie taking a bow at center stage. You took your cue to phase away and there was another wave of cheering as Julie waved and joined you in the backstage area.
-
As the crowd of students began making their way home and the stage was being torn down, you sat on the gym floor beneath a colorful balloon arch with Julie. Flynn had made her way to the cafeteria, taking advantage of the fact that there were no adults to stop her.
You watched the last few students leave, including the blonde boy you’d noticed staring at Julie all night. You turned to her with a playful smile.
"So? When were you going to tell me about the cute boy who obviously likes you?" You teased and Julie sighed.
"Nick is Carrie's boyfriend." She said as her eyes drifted across the empty room and you smiled sympathetically. She elbowed the air next to your ribs, "When were you going to tell me about Luke?"
"What about Luke?" You asked, trying not to blush.
"Don't play dumb, (Y/n)." Julie smirked. "It's obvious."
You groaned, falling onto your back against the floor and Julie laughed. "How obvious?"
"(Y/n), you wear his jacket like everyday, and that song in his journal was one hundred percent about you." Julie laid down beside you.
You snapped your head sideways and Julie laughed again at your shocked expression. "What?"
"Come on." She said. "Who else could that be about?"
You thought back to earlier, when Luke looked like a deer in headlights as Julie read the title out loud.. But you knew there was no way that it was about you. I mean,  Luke never exactly had a shortage of girls that wanted his attention.
Just as you were about to point this out to Julie, there was a series of bright lights and Alex, Luke and Reggie appeared in front of you. You and Julie stood up, wearing identical glares, the anger you both felt earlier returning in full force. But before you could say a word, Luke launched into an apology.
“We are so sorry that we bailed on you guys.”
“The night just got away from us.” Alex added, looking everywhere but your face.
“It was about Carrie’s dad, wasn’t it?” Julie asked and when none of the boys answered, she scoffed. “You know what? Save it. Bands don’t do this to each other, friends don’t do this to each other. This whole thing was a mistake.”
“You mean the dance, right?” Luke asked hopefully and Julie shook her head.
“I meant joining a band with you guys.” She said, trying to keep a straight face. You could tell she was holding back tears as she ran out of the gym.
Once she was gone, you took a deep breath and faced them.
Alex immediately stepped forward, guilt etched on his face.”(Y/n), We’re so sorry.”
“I’m not the one you should worry about apologizing to.” You said, looking towards the doors where Julie left just a second ago. Alex followed your eyes and sighed, grabbing onto Reggie’s shoulder and steering him towards the door.
There was a moment of heaviness as you took another deep breath. You realized with a start that this was the first time you and Luke had been alone in months. Talking used to come so easily between the two of you, but now you found yourself struggling to find your words.
“We really are sorry, (Y/n).” Luke said quietly. “We didn’t mean to hurt Julie. Or you.”
You scoffed, kicking your foot against the linoleum of the gym floor, “But you did, and for what? A chance for revenge?”
“No! Well, yeah. But there was something else that happened. You won’t believe-”
“What could’ve been more important than being here?” You asked, cutting him off. You forced yourself to look up and found him looking back at you intently.
“If you just let me explain, I promise I would never purposely leave you hanging.”
“But you have been leaving me hanging, Luke!” You fired back, your voice nearly echoing in the empty room. The second the words left your mouth, you felt nauseous. After months of keeping those words on the tip of your tongue, you had expected saying them to feel better.
Luke winced at your words, but kept your gaze, “Hey, I know I’ve been..” He paused, knitting his eyebrows together, “distracted”.
“That’s one word for it.” You said and Luke took a cautious step closer.
“It’s just that everything has changed so much.” He said, and for the first time tonight, he looked away, “Even before we died.”
You opened your mouth to say something, but he cut you off, seemingly unable to stop rambling.
“It’s like there’s so many things I’ve been trying to say, but I can’t make the words come out. And it all gets so tangled up in my head and I just end up saying nothing.”
You could see him getting more frustrated as he continued on. “I’m sorry for everything. For being late, for being such a shitty friend and being so far away lately. I just-”
He took another step forward, eyes never leaving your face. “I’m just afraid of losing everything.”
There was an edge to his voice, like it was hard for him to get the words out. As he inched a little closer, you reached out your hand, fingers inches away from his when suddenly he jumped back. A purple shock flashing in the middle of his chest.
Luke fell to the ground, groaning as he clutched his side. You crouched next to him and his eyes fluttered open slowly. “Ow.”
“What the hell was that?” You asked and Luke sat up.
“I don’t know.” He said, rolling his shoulders, “That’s never happened to me before.”
Suddenly, Alex and Reggie phased back into the gym, both of them looking just as shocked.
“Guys, something so weird just happened.” Reggie exclaimed. Alex took in the sight of you and Luke sitting so close to each other and cleared his throat.
“Should we come back later?”
You glared at him. “Let me guess, you guys also got shocked with creepy purple magic?”
“How’d you know?” Reggie asked, wide-eyed.
Alex sighed at him before he turned back to you. “We definitely need to figure out what the hell just happened.”
“Yeah, let’s go home.” You said and Luke cleared his throat, staring at Alex and Reggie.
“Uh, you guys go. We’ll be there in a minute.”
Alex gave you a questioning look and you nodded, and with another flash, they phased out.
It was quiet for a minute as you both processed everything that just happened. You and Luke hadn’t had a fight like that since you were kids, and that was the most he had said to you in over half a year. Your head was spinning with all the change.
Luke rubbed the back of his neck and you could almost feel how nervous he was. “So..”
“So…” You repeated.
Luke turned a little more towards you and quickly wrapped his pinky around yours. He gave it a gentle squeeze as he smiled.
“Truce?” Luke asked.
You nodded, smiling as you squeezed back. “Truce.”

What if the Sound Trio survived and became Leaf ninjas?
Headcanons under the cut (bitch, it’s a lot of headcanons)
~ Chunin Exam Finals/Invasion~
Dosu was shown to be suspicious of Orochimaru because of the whole Sasuke/curse mark thing and seemed like he wasn’t wanting to be a part of Orochimaru’s shit anymore so he’s the one who realizes something is up
Rather than face Gaara he somehow finds out about sand’s allegiance with sound (overhearing Baki and Kabuto on the way to Gaara, eavesdropping on Orochimaru [because, again, sus], etc...) and that’s what pushes him to defect from sound (also how he manages to live)
Dosu, Zaku, and Kin aren’t necessarily close, but in the anime Dosu did sort of say he was gonna get revenge on behalf of Zaku for what happened to his arms so there is a sense of something there (whether it be friendship, camaraderie, or just wanting to stick together to survive... idk) and Dosu tells his teammates what’s up and convinces them that they gotta GTFO
Zaku is a little more difficult to convince because why would Orochimaru do that to him? He saved Zaku from being a street rat, he gave Zaku power
Dosu ain’t having it and is like “if you wish to stay behind then that is your decision, in the end it is better for us to not have to carry any dead weight” (obviously referring to Zaku’s inability to do anything because of his arms)
Dosu then proceeds to tell Zaku how he no longer serves a purpose without his arms and he was nice enough to still want to take Zaku with him, Orochimaru would not be so kind
Zaku is upset because he knows Dosu has a point and they all leave
They (read: Dosu) decide that their best chance of survival is staying in Konoha because, the minute they leave, the sound village/Orochimaru will be gunning for their asses and also they’d be missing-nin, so others would try to kill them too
But what can they do to assure they don’t get imprisoned or killed due to having worked under Orochimaru? Rat out the sound village and give all the information they know/found out about the invasion and sand’s involvement
Third Hokage is a cool dude and also was Orochimaru’s teacher so he knows the kind of power this bitch can have over people which is why he agrees to let the sound trio stay and have them watched by Anbu
Dosu does not participate in the chunin exam finals because witness protection, or something
The invasion still happens because Orochimaru ain’t stupid. His “pawns” are nowhere to be found so it’s likely they’re betraying him, so obviously he makes changes to the plan
Dosu, Kin, and Zaku do not participate in fighting off the invasion because, uh, super strict house arrest orders???
Third Hokage dies and this FREAKS the trio out because a) oh shit Orochimaru actually did it and b) we’re only allowed to be here because of him, so what’s going to happen to us
Council is deciding what to do with them and has them staying hidden/as they were, but what’s more important to them is finding Tsunade and having her take over as Hokage so the trio are just anxiously chilling
Tsunade is Hokage now and she decides to let them stay because they turned their backs on Orochimaru and also she trusts Sarutobi’s judgment on letting them stay initially, but they are still going to be watched by Anbu to be sure
Naruto and co. find out about the trio and they are PISSED because “not only did you try to kill Sasuke, not only are you from the village that attacked us, not only did you work for Orochimaru but you did nothing to defend Konoha during the invasion. If you want to be a part of this village then you should have helped”
Tsunade tells these bitches to simmer down. They were under Anbu house arrest. She’s Hokage and they need to respect her decision. Also Zaku, let’s fix your arms.
~Sasuke Retrieval Arc~
Everyone is immediately on the trio’s ass because “we knew you couldn’t be trusted”
Tsunade has to tell everyone to stfu again
The trio want to go (to prove themselves) and feel they can be of assistance but Tsunade is like Catherine of Aragon because she says there’s no no no no NO WAY. It’s already a dangerous mission, it might be more so for them because Orochimaru is probably after their heads for betraying him and knows all of their skills
Everything about the arc is the same until the point where Shikamaru, Kiba, and Lee need help. Instead of the Sand Siblings being the ones to arrive it’s the sound trio
Zaku saves Kiba... mainly because I imagine them being friends once the trio are accepted and I just want this to be the beginning of their friendship. How he saves him idk because I’m not creative when it comes to fights
Kin saves Shikamaru. Again idk how. Zaku’s slicing sounds waves make more sense here because they work similar to Temari’s fan but I want it to be Kin because kunoichi vs. kunoichi, genjutsu vs. genjutsu, and also the idea of Kin saving the guy who beat her in such an embarrassing way does something to me, but also is a sort of redemption? I just want this battle to show off how skilled Kin can be because she was very underutilized and kinda weak in the original story and I love her so much, she deserves to do cool shit. So let her outsmart Tayuya and, in a way, she is outsmarting Shikamaru because he had no more plans to fall back on
Dosu saves Lee. Again, idk how and, again, I think Zaku’s slicing sound waves would be better here because they can keep Kimimaro (a close range fighter) at bay but I guess seeing Dosu and Kimimaro throwing hands would be cool. And then you have that redemption moment with Lee because Dosu kicked his ass in the forest of death and now he’s saving Lee!
After the mission, despite its failure, the trio are accepted as leaf shinobi and are introduced to their new sensei: cue Anko crashing through the window with a big sign introducing herself again
Similarly to the moment when Naruto spoke out and Anko threw a kunai at him, Zaku gives a snide comment and Anko is immediately at his throat, and then she’s like “JK! But don’t say that again you little shit!”
Anko was chosen to lead the trio due to her past with Orochimaru and because of that she can better understand them
~Other Headcanons~
It took the Konoha 12 a while to accept the trio. The first ones to accept them were Kiba, Lee, and Shikamaru (duh) but also Choji and even Naruto. Choji became cool with them when he found out Shikamaru was cool with them because he trusts Shikamaru’s judgment, and despite originally trying to kill his teammate, Naruto accepts them because they came out and helped so that means they’re a-okay in his book. Neji was slightly taken aback but also accepted them pretty quickly. Basically, the retrieval team was like “yeah okay” and vouch for them.
The ones who took the longest to come around were Ino and Sakura because did y’all just forget what happened at the forest of death???
As I said, I imagine Kiba and Zaku being friends. Mainly because I feel they have similar personalities in the sense that they’re both pretty cocky, boisterous, and talk shit. I imagine them kinda being like rivals in the sense of they’re always trying to one up each other
Zaku is still not fond of Shino because of the whole bugs in arms thing so whenever Shino is around Zaku is just like “I hate your teammate” to Kiba
Kin/Shikamaru could potentially replace the Temari/Shikamaru relationship. Both Kin and Temari are very similar in the sense of being an ex-villain, being viewed as scarier/more intense compared to the Konoha girls, being older by a couple years, and they both lost (well, Temari technically won but we all know she lost) to Shikamaru. Because of this the Kin/Shikamaru relationship wouldn’t be all that different to how the Temari/Shikamaru relationship is shown
That being said I love the sand siblings and don’t want them gone and because of how similar I feel Kin and Temari are they become really good friends and Kin enjoys when Temari visits. They both make Shikamaru’s life hell though. Double Trouble™️
Also I said potentially because I like exploring the idea of Kin/Zaku or Kin/Dosu (:
Dosu and Shino actually get along really well (much to the dismay of Zaku). They’re the type of people where they can sit in silence with each other and it’s just chill. And when they have to work together they kinda have flawless teamwork and don’t even need to speak to know what the other plans on doing
Kin and Sakura actually get along now? They’re not best friends by any means but they can be civil and respect each other
Team Kurenai and Team Sand are the teams that the trio get along with the best/most easily tho
Kin cut her hair to her lower back. Cue everyone cracking jokes about Neji and Kin looking the same from behind. Kin stops tying her hair after that
The trio have really well trained ears because back in Otogakure they had to learn to pick up on the subtlest of sounds in order to spy on enemies and communicate at such a low volume that to any normal ear sounds like silence but to them the message is loud and clear
Because of this they’re all amazing singers (Dosu is the best tho because he has the best trained ear. Seriously, being able to tell what someone is writing based on the sounds of their pencil? Skills.) and everyone likes hearing them sing.
That being said, despite being from the land of sound they didn’t actually know any songs because the sound village doesn’t really do music. It was forbidden because no one is allowed joy in the land of sound. Jk. But it did have to do with depriving people of normalcy because Orochimaru was creating an army of followers
This little singing/music tidbit was discovered by Naruto and he took it upon himself to show the trio music. It wasn’t all good music, but it’s music!
Also, despite being the best singer, Dosu doesn’t really do it. Dude doesn’t even hum. He’ll only sing if Kin and Zaku start pestering or if Anko wants him to
The first (and only) time Kin and Zaku saw Dosu cry was shortly after they became leaf shinobi. Anko and Tsunade were telling the team how brave it was for them to leave Orochimaru and sound behind, and Anko especially complimented Dosu on taking him and his team out of that situation. Kin and Zaku had been trying to hold back tears and keep up their tough image but the minute they saw Dosu crying, not trying to wipe away his tears or hide them or anything they lost it
No one talks about their little crying session. It’s a secret
Despite getting his arms fixed by Tsunade, Zaku still has problems with them, especially his right one (I think that’s the one that got blown off) and needs to get them treated consistently. Partly due to the fact they he didn’t give himself all the time to heal after Tsunade fixed him because he went to help the retrieval team and, mainly, because of Orochimaru’s experiments. Like, essentially Zaku’s air tube surgery was actually kind of botched and, for lack of a better term, experimental, and is fucking with the nerves and muscles and chakra in his arms and kinda eating away at them. And the crazy damage he took from getting his arms blown off only fucked everything up more
Eventually Zaku gets a better version of his air tube in his left arm and has to completely replace the right arm with a cool prosthetic that lets him do stronger/cooler jutsus
Kin has combined singing with her genjutsu and has created a sort of mind control jutsu... I may or may not have gotten this idea while listening to Come Little Children and remembering that Sarah Sanderson would control kids with song
The trio think Sasuke is a fUCKING DUMBASS for willingly going with Orochimaru. Like, bitch we had to leave that no good asshole for the betterment of our lives and you just waltz out of Konoha and straight into his arms?! What is you doing Uchiha?!

"what?" elle asked as she felt morgan staring holes into her for the millionth time this morning.
"we've only been here an hour, and you've made two calls," morgan said as he leaned back in his chair.
"so?" elle asked as she grabbed her mobile phone from her desk.
"you hate the phone, elle."
"i don't hate the phone," elle almost laughed.
"actually, you do," reid added to the conversation. "did you know that alexander graham bell and eli gray simultaneously invented electronic sound transmission devices? it came down to a race betwixt the two."
"yeah, and bell beat gray to the patent office by a matter of hours," elle finished. her cell beeped, but she only put it away and continued, "common knowledge."
"why are you acting so weird?" morgan asked as he twiddled his pencil.
"i'm not."
although she said that, the next time she checked her phone, she couldn't help but let a smile slip.
"you're getting some loving, aren't you? you got a boyfriend," morgan said with a smug smirk.
"you're basing this on what exactly--the fact that i don't like the phone? that's all you got? that's your best? you've been a profiler for how long, derek, and that's--that's weak. that's weak," elle said, defensive and flustered.
morgan knew he shouldn't have, but elle made it so easy. she had left the building without her phone.
[9:13am] y/n: still on 4 tonight? miss u xoxo
morgan shrugged and forgot all about it.
that is until he left work one night.
tonight, the team had found c.i.a. deputy director bruno hawks guilty of treason and murder.
morgan had gone back to the office to get to his car, and elle had gone back as well for presumably the same reason.
he was about to get into his car until he saw a stranger leaning on elle's. he was about to step in to help ward off the unwanted stranger when elle started laughing.
"i told you not to come to my work," elle let out the most carefree laugh that morgan had ever heard from her.
it was bad to eavesdrop, but morgan couldn't help himself.
"i'm no profiler, but you don't seem to be too mad about it," the stranger smiled.
"y/n, you're unbelievable," elle playfully rolled her eyes. "how long have you been waiting?"
morgan recognized the name from a few days ago when he snooped on elle's phone.
"not long," y/n tried to shrug.
"yeah, right. you're shivering," elle said as she shrugged off her jacket and wrapped it around y/n's shoulders. "you should've at least waited in the car."
"and miss out on the chance to get your jacket? yeah right," y/n giggled as she opened the door to the passenger seat. "i'll drive. you look beat."
"you're a terrible driver," elle laughed but accepted the offer.
"kiss for the chauffeur?" y/n asked as she leaned down.
"we're at my workplace," elle said, being the voice of reason between the two.
"please?" y/n dragged on.
"fine," elle smiled as she leaned forward and gave y/n a quick peck.
"your smile's as pretty as ever."
"what a charmer."
━━━━━━♡♤♡━━━━━━
"reid, are you sure you don't wanna come?" elle asked one last time.
"thanks, but i have to go--i'm going home," reid said as he shoved cds into his bag. "have a good one."
"since reid's not using it...you think you can swing that deal for a friend of mine?" elle asked morgan once reid rushed out of the room.
"is your friend cute?" morgan asked playfully.
"is that a yes?" elle asked.
"yes. a friend of yours is a friend of mine," morgan nodded with a cheeky smile. "hope your friend's packed and ready to go."
"actually—"
"elle!" the girl from the other night waved excitedly.
"this is my friend y/n. y/n, derek morgan," elle smiled. even as she introduced them, she couldn't take her eyes off of her.
morgan let out a dopey smile at that.
"what?" elle asked when y/n got in the car.
"nothing," morgan shook his head.
━━━━━━♡♤♡━━━━━━
"may i have this dance?" y/n asked as she gave a theatrical bow to elle.
"you're so dramatic," elle rolled her eyes, unable to keep the amused smile off her face.
"is that a yes?"
"what about morgan?" elle looked to where her coworker was at at the other side of the club.
"his attention's already locked on the hundred something girls he's with. c'mon, elle. you owe me for ditching me to play frisbee with that guy," y/n pouted.
"okay, all right," elle sighed as though this wasn't something that she too wanted. though, the wide smile on her face said otherwise.
their nimble fingers intertwined while both held each other close by the other's back with their free hands.
they swayed to the slow music, and y/n twirled elle with the hand that held her's.
elle had a look of pure bliss on her face when she was once again facing y/n.
y/n stared in awe at the beauty that was elle greenaway.
"do i have something on my face or something?" elle asked when she noticed that y/n was staring.
"if you had such a beautiful view, wouldn't you wanna keep looking, too?" y/n said with a sly smile.
"you're such a flirt," elle said as she leaned in for a kiss.
y/n raised her hand from the small of elle's back to the back of her head. with their eyes closed, bodies close together, and the upbeat music turning into dull background noise, it felt like they were the only two people in the world.
"i know your friend went through the trouble of giving me a discount on the room, but..." y/n trailed off.
"yes," elle answered in an instance, grabbing y/n's hand and leading her away.
━━━━━━♡♤♡━━━━━━
"our forensics expert and your coroner agree that the time of death was no less than twenty-four hours ago. neither agent greenaway or y/n l/n could've committed this murder because they've been in this country for less than twenty four hours," hotchner came to the rescue.
"thank you," y/n said once they were on the plane ride back.
"aaron hotchner," he introduced himself as he reached across the table and shook y/n's hand.
"yeah, i figured," y/n laughed lightly only to realize what she had said, "i mean--"
"i talk about my coworkers sometimes," elle explained with a dismissive hand.
"sorry, elle..." y/n said as she played with the edge of elle's jacket which she was wearing.
"no, don't be," elle shook her head.
"you okay?" morgan asked.
"yeah, thanks," y/n nodded.
they settled into an uncomfortable silence.
hotchner sighed as he looked over the autopsy report of the man that his agent was accused of murdering less than an hour ago.
morgan tried to shut his eyes but failed to get any rest.
elle sat incredibly still, the most tense that both morgan and hotchner had ever seen her.
y/n went between dozing off to being as attentive as a soldier.
"you don't have to sit here. you can sit anywhere on the plane," elle eventually said. "here, follow me."
morgan had fully given up on getting any sleep, and his eyes followed as elle lead y/n to the long seat by her hand.
elle sat down on the edge and patted her lap.
y/n hesitantly looked toward morgan and hotchner--to which morgan quickly looked away as though he hadn't been watching--before lying down on the couch and using elle's lap as a pillow.
"i'm sorry," elle said in a somber voice as she brushed away the hair that was covering y/n's face.
"if this is your apology, i don't mind being accused of murder," y/n smiled as she grabbed the hand that was on her face and held it.
and although she had tried to laugh it off, the team could see that she was clearly affected by the events of this morning.
━━━━━━♡♤♡━━━━━━
"you're welcome to come with us as a guest," hotchner said once they landed.
"thanks, but today's grocery day," y/n shook her head.
"i'll send an agent to help you on your way out," hotchner said as he gestured at the closest agent.
y/n gave a weak wave before she let herself be escorted out.
"do you guys want to go home? get some rest?" hotchner asked his two agents.
"hell no," elle said as she turned to look at hotchner as if he had just said the most outrageous thing in the world.
"i'm good," morgan shook his head.
"how much sleep did you two get in the last twenty-four hours?"
"i am not sleeping until i find whoever this frank giles is," elle said, full of determination.
━━━━━━♡♤♡━━━━━━
"my eyes are so heavy, i can barely see the board," elle sighed as she turned to reid.
she could barely comprehend the explanation that he was giving about the book code.
she slumped into the leather chair and rested her chin on her hand as she racked her brain to try to find ways to figure out what book they needed, but she couldn't come up with anything.
"the answer's gotta be up there somewhere," elle yawned as she tried her best to focus her eyes on the board of clues in front of her.
━━━━━━♡♤♡━━━━━━
hotchner walked into the room to find morgan and reid going over all of the clues that they had been given.
he walked over to elle, who was sleeping on a couch. it looked incredibly uncomfortable.
"elle," hotchner said as he shook her shoulder.
"i'm awake," elle said hastily as she sat up.
"i'm sending you home," hotchner said as he looked at her exhausted state.
"no," elle frowned, voice still raspy with sleep.
"you need to get some rest. you haven't slept in thirty-six hours. we won't do anything without you, i promise," hotchner said, trying to convince her to get the rest that she clearly needed.
"elle, we're not any closer than we were. get out of here. go home," morgan reasoned.
"it's an order," hotchner said in a lighter tone, letting her know that it was just out of concern.
even as she got up and walked down the stairs, she could barely keep her eyes open.
"anderson," hotchner called to one of the agents. "take greenaway home."
"yes sir," anderson got up from his seat.
"no, i'm fine," elle tried to reassure.
"you're clearly worn out. you can't drive like this," hotchner shook his head.
"all right," elle sighed, "come on, anderson."
"get some sleep," hotchner said as she left.
━━━━━━♡♤♡━━━━━━
as gideon waited in front of elle's hospital room, sitting in one of the many chairs available in the hallway, he saw a woman sitting with her head in her knees right next to elle's door. she was as close as she could be without getting in anybody's way.
he wondered who she was. perhaps it was somebody mourning over the person in the room next to elle's.
for hours, they both sat in their respective places in complete silence.
gideon kept his phone close, waiting for someone from his team to call him and let him know that the case had been closed.
a doctor eventually came, and the woman on the floor raised her head for the first time, looking up at him.
"she's gonna be fine," he said with a smile. "you can see her, but she's sleeping."
gideon was about to get up from his seat when the unfamiliar woman raised from the floor and entered the room.
the door was left open, and gideon could see the woman shakily reach toward elle's sleeping face, her movements so gentle and slow as though anything more might break elle like a fragile doll.
she brushed the hair out of her face and moved to pull a chair closer to the hospital bed.
gideon let out a small smile and decided to leave. elle would have somebody waiting for her when she woke up.
━━━━━━♡♤♡━━━━━━
"what's wrong?" y/n asked as she grabbed elle's plate. "was it bad?"
"no, it was great," elle shook her head. "i just feel kinda restless, i guess."
"if you say so," y/n frowned as she washed the dishes.
"four months out of work, i feel kinda useless," elle said as she sat down on the couch. "i feel like a freeloader."
"for the millionth time, you're not," y/n said. "i like spending time with you."
"i just don't wanna feel like a complete bum all the time."
"you're not a bum. everybody needs breaks," y/n tried to reason.
"nobody takes a four month break."
"tons of people need long breaks. especially after what you've... what you had to go through..." y/n's frown deepened.
"i'm completely fine now. i promise," elle tried to reassure as she turned to y/n. "you don't have to keep worrying about me."
"yeah, okay..." y/n sighed.
a beep caught elle's attention.
"it's a text from the bureau," elle said after a pause. "i have to go."
"i thought you weren't going back until next week," y/n said, turning off the sink immediately and turning around to face elle.
"they texted me," elle repeated as she grabbed her stuff and made her way to the front door.
"i love you," y/n said with a worried look as elle closed the front door behind her.
━━━━━━♡♤♡━━━━━━
elle opened the door to the bedroom that she had been sharing with y/n.
it was sometime around two in the morning. elle couldn't really tell.
y/n was on her side of the bed, sitting up and thoughtfully staring at the ceiling.
"you didn't have to wait up for me," elle said as she flicked the light switch off.
"i know," y/n said, her eyes still on the ceiling.
it didn't take a profiler to know that something was wrong.
"how's your week been?" elle asked.
"it was okay. uneventful," y/n shrugged. "what about you?"
"i went to california for a case."
"how'd it go?"
"in the end, the unsub had a knife to a little boy's throat. he lived."
"that's good. you're his hero."
"no, hotch is."
"you're all his hero."
"maybe."
silence. terrible, unbearable silence.
when did things become like this between them?
"i think you've changed."
elle would've laughed if the air between them wasn't so tense and serious. y/n had always been a mind reader.
"what are you? a profiler?" elle asked. she meant for it to come out lighter and less snappy than it did.
"when it comes to you, i can't help but be one, i guess," y/n sighed. "i love you so much, of course i notice things. elle, i've said it before, and i'll say it again. you're the most breath taking view i've ever seen, of course i wanna keep looking at you as much as possible. but... keeping my eyes on the view means having to see all of the sadness that comes with it. you're still gorgeous, elle, but you've changed so much. before, i couldn't even get mad at you for leaving in the middle of a date because your face lit up so much. i knew how much this job meant to you, and how happy it made you when you finally got the position, but now... i hate what this job's done to you. it doesn't even make you happy anymore. you look tormented, elle. your face is always full of so much worry, your body's always so tense, and your smiles..."
"i smile," elle tried to defend, giving a forced laugh to try to prove her point.
y/n finally turned to look at her.
"this is what i mean. you're miserable, elle. your smile's the most beautiful thing in the world, but it doesn't reach your eyes anymore."
elle tried to open her mouth to say something, but nothing came out.
"i can't sit here and watch you wilt away like this anymore," y/n got up from the bed and walked toward the door.
"where're you going?" elle finally found her voice.
"honestly... i don't know."
the door shut quietly behind her, and elle was left all alone in the dark room.
━━━━━━♡♤♡━━━━━━
gideon walked down the stairs and saw that half of his team was still there.
"doesn't anybody ever go home?" he asked.
"you're here," elle shrugged.
"exactly my point. you don't wanna model your social lives after mine," gideon said as he opened the fridge for a late night snack.
"if it makes you feel any better, hotch and morgan are gone," jareau said.
"hotch is married, and morgan is... well, they've both got partners to get back to," reid said.
gideon shot a quick glance toward elle, but elle was too busy staring at her coffee mug and sulking to notice.
"so what's this case about?"
━━━━━━♡♤♡━━━━━━
as elle took out the small complementary bottles of alcohol out, she heard a two bits knock on her door.
"hey," reid said with a small smile once elle opened the door.
"hi," elle greeted back.
"are you okay?" reid asked, getting straight to the point.
"yeah, why wouldn't i be?" elle asked.
instead of answering, reid entered the room.
"no, really, come right in," elle said, her lips flattening out into a line.
she grabbed the small bottles that she had gotten out and made her way to the table.
she almost rolled her eyes as reid gave her a confused look.
"what? you wanna check my i.d.?"
reid followed her to the table.
"so... why're you here?" elle asked as she opened one of the bottles.
"i thought... maybe you'd wanna talk," reid shrugged.
"don't go all profiler on me," elle scoffed and shook her head.
"elle, you got shot in your own home, and then you came back to work like nothing even happened. thinking you might want to talk isn't profiling you. it's psych 101," reid said, trying to keep things light.
elle sighed and took a sip of her drink.
"please?" reid asked in a slightly begging tone.
elle gave in and offered one of the small bottles to reid.
in response, he hesitantly grabbed a glass and took the seat across from elle.
"after he shot me, he reached into my wound, so he could write on the wall in my blood," elle paused. "i was barely conscious, but i could feel his hand in there... and sometimes it's like i can still feel it."
reid took some time to think of what to say. "elle, he's dead. and you're... you're right here. you won."
elle kept herself from scoffing or sighing. instead, she raised her glass.
"then here's to winning."
━━━━━━♡♤♡━━━━━━
as lee's body was loaded, hotchner shook his head in disbelief.
sure, the officer had told him that elle was cleared, but hotchner knew the truth.
━━━━━━♡♤♡━━━━━━
"she hasn't confessed to anything?" gideon asked.
"no," hotchner shook his head even though the other couldn't see it.
"well, you're doing the right thing," the man on the phone reassured.
"i know." did he know?
"i'll see you when i land."
"gideon?" elle asked as she leaned into hotchner's office.
"yeah."
"tell him i said bye."
elle fully walked into the office with her gear in hand, placing them down on hotchner's desk.
"this is not an admission of guilt."
"right," hotchner said, holding back a scoff.
"you know, when i first started this job, the sound of my phone ringing, a call from the bureau... i used to get so excited. the blood would race through my veins, but now... that same sound paralyzes me. i'm not the same person anymore," elle said with her arms folded around her. "that day, i was alone in the one place i have the right to feel safe, and that's my home. just like those women have the right to feel safe in their homes. our homes were stolen from us. that night, if i had to do it all over again, i wouldn't change a thing."
"even though you killed someone?" hotchner asked.
elle let out a sigh that was close to turning into a scoff. of course hotchner wouldn't even try to understand.
"garner stole everything from me. my home, and the one person that made it a home in the first place," elle said, her voice so shaky that if hotchner didn't know any better he'd expect her to start crying.
"elle," hotchner tried. he didn't know what to say.
"i guess that's it then," elle said with a slight shake of her head.
she turned toward the door and opened it wide enough to get past it, but she paused.
"you know, when i first joined the team, i couldn't figure out why you never ever smile," she said bleakly. "now, even if quitting the job i desperately wanted is what it's gonna take, i'm gonna go find my smile again."
and with that, elle walked out of his office.
elle to y/n: i'm chasing after my smile. wanna help me?
❥๑━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━๑❥
a/n;
as with apparently all of my works, i had an idea and then had no idea how to execute it.
idk elle's last scene in the boogeyman broke my heart, and i wanted to believe that she left to lead a happier life.
i thought "smile" would be a cute idea, but i feel like it's just really messy and incomprehensible like you never know what's going on in the text because the transitions are weird idk.

uh well you see... | koshi sugawara x reader
Tumblr media
Pairing: Koshi Sugawara x f!reader
Summary: it just so happens that after working together on an assignment you both accidentally grabbed each other's notebooks by mistake and now you’re trying to get it back.
Words: 2,017
Warning(s): embarrassment, fluff,
You lightly kept tapping your pencil on the desk up and down as you reread the assignment you had finished. It was currently lunchtime, everybody around you was chatting with their friends as they ate. While you sat alone at your desk double-checking the work before turning it in after lunch. Your heart was still beating, spending time with Sugaawara was hard he was always busy and never alone. It surprised you that he even decided to ask to work on it together nevertheless, your heart was jumping with joy at the idea.
Having a crush on him was exciting yet a bit difficult he was naturally kind to those around him so it was troublesome to know if he liked you or not. Sighing you dug around in your bag to grab your notebook, it always helped to write down how you felt at least that’s what Kiyoko suggested.
“Where is it?!” you mumbled taking your bag and placing it on the desk to look better. To your horror, the notebook that was there wasn’t yours instead it was Suga’s.
‘I’m dead...I’m officially dead...he’s going to think of me as a weirdo.’
It felt as if your spirit had left your body and all that was left was your human corpse that laid there still horrified about what just happened. “Hey, are you alright?” your head turned to see Kiyoko and Yachi there “What’s wrong?” Kiyoko asked.
“I think I just asked for death...” they looked at you confused and your hand extended out towards them as you held his notebook. However, they didn’t catch on as to why you were having a mid-life crisis. “How come you have Suga’s notebook?” Yachi asked.
“We worked on an assignment together...then we accidentally grabbed each other’s notebooks by mistake...” you spoke and they both nodded still wondering what the problem was “So...the one that I use to write my assignment down is where I have my doodles and his name is written on it...”
“How did that happen?” Yachi asked, “Well you see...” you chuckled slightly feeling like an idiot.
You bit your lip in concentration as you tried to figure out the next question. The door then slid open to reveal Sugawara, “Hey (y/n)!” he yelled out making your head turn towards the doorway. Your eyes widened seeing how adorable his messy hair looked! “Oh boy...he is making it hard for me,” you muttered.
He smiled softly as he walked over to your desk “Sorry I was late.” he scratched the back of his head as his perfect teeth showed. “We had volleyball practice before lunch and some of them weren’t making it easier for me to come early.”
You smiled lovingly at him and nodded “It’s okay I understand.” Suga then moved the desk and placed it in front of yours so he could face you. “Did you get started on it?” he asked, you quickly straighten yourself up.
“Yeah, I have three questions down.” you answered “Already?”
You nodded “Can I take a look?”
“Sure.” you slid your notebook closer to him, “I kinda...had a bit of trouble with it so I apologize for it just being...three questions.”
“Don’t worry you’ve done more than I have. I know you’re trying hard.” he spoke looking at you “I’ve seen you staying late after school with Mr. Fujiwara.”
“Oh...y-you know?...” you mumbled looking away “There’s nothing to be ashamed of, (y/n).”
“I-It’s not that...” you said “Then?” he asked you looked down at your lap not meeting his gaze. “I-I...just I’m the only one in class who still has trouble with English...it’s not my first language...I feel stupid...sometimes I guess...”
“I don’t think you’re stupid nor does our teacher and your friends (y/n). I have trouble with science sometimes that doesn’t make me stupid does it?”
“Of course not! I-I’ve...never thought about you...that way. I think you’re really smart Suga.”
“Then don’t think that way about yourself everyone needs help sometimes. Without help, we wouldn’t know how to get better, think about it like this.” he continued “Each time you ask for help you’re closer to getting better little by little as if you were running an obstacle course.”
The thumps in your heart became louder as he leaned in closer, he chuckled making you blush in return. “R-right!”
“I don’t think we’ll be able to finish it in time for tomorrow. Why don’t we meet after school?” he suggested “J-just the two of us?” he nodded “W-what about...p-practice?” you stuttered. “Today we’re just practicing our spikes. I can ask coach Ukai if I can stay for an hour and then leave.”
“I see, then s-sure let me know what he says then?” he got his phone out and then so did you. “I’ll give you my phone number so I can message you.”
A wide smile spread on your face feeling excited about getting his phone number. Once you traded phone numbers the bell rang, “I gotta go I’ll text you.” he said grabbing the left notebook. You nodded resting your chin on your hand not caring about anything else, only Suga. “Bye Sugawara!” you exclaimed bravely waving goodbye. He waved goodbye as well and gave you a smile.
“Oh...” was all they said before they realized what had occurred, “Just ask him for your notebook back.” Kiyoko said, “I would...but if he saw what I wrote in it and asked me about it I wouldn’t know what to say!” you exclaimed, “I’m dead.”
‘I rather just crawl in a hole and die before asking for my notebook...my chances are ruined...’
“I got an idea! Why don’t you come to practice with us? That way while he plays you could sneak into his bag and get it back!” your eyes widened at the idea of retrieving your notebook back. “Yachi! I love you!” you exclaimed making everyone turn around and look at you two. Your arms went around her neck hugging her tightly she was a blushing mess and people’s stares didn’t help.
“I still have a chance!” you spoke with such happiness, “Now I just have to wait till practice and hope he's not there."
"Don't worry I'll keep him distracted!" Yachi exclaimed.
--
After school you waited a few feet away from the gym, Yachi and Kiyoko arrived a few minutes later. “Are you ready?” Kiyoko asked “No...” you groaned feeling your stomach full of butterflies “I-I don’t want to get caught.”
“We’ll keep him distracted, right now they should be getting changed,” Yachi said pointing to the club room. “It’s the second door.” on cue the guys then walked out, “Hide.”
You hid behind the vending machines “Hey what are you doing out here?” Daichi asked, “We were discussing something about the assignment we were about to head inside.” Kiyoko answered while Yachi seemed a bit nervous.
“Are you alright?” Sugawara asked looking at Yachi, “Y-Yeah! Let’s get the practice started shall we?!”
Hinata then took off running, “HEY! NO FAIR YOU GOT A HEAD START!” Kageyama yelled and went after him. “I swear they’re such idiots,” Tsukishima commented while Yamaguchi laughed.
Once they finally started moving Kiyoko gave you the signal and you quickly dashed to the club room. You walked inside, looking around frantically for Sugawara’s bag. “Where is his bag? All I know for sure if Daichi’s bag is around then his has got to be next to it.
“Let’s begin stretching,” Daichi called out, everyone got in line and started counting after him. “2, 2, 3, 4.”
“1, 2, 2, 3, 4,” Sugawara said stretching his right arm and pulling it across his chest with his right hand. Coach Ukai looked around, “Hey specs.” he said, “Yeah?” Takeda replied.
“Have you seen the clipboard that has the moves listed?” Mr. Takeda looked around but shook his head “I don’t see them anywhere Sir.”
“That’s weird...I distinctly remember leaving it here.” he mumbled, “Maybe you left it back at the club room, we did have that meeting two days ago after practice.”
“Right...” Coach Ukai said rubbing the back of his neck “Crap...” he turned to look at the team “I’ll be right back guys keep stretching and then start warming up.”
“Where are you going coach?” Hinata asked, “I forgot the clipboard back at the club room.” Yachi’s hairs then stood up “W-wait! I-I can g-get it m-myself! Coach you don’t have to go!” she spoke.
“Don’t worry I can go get it myself.” he smiled softly “Yachi! Can you come and toss us some volleyballs please?” Hinata asked “O-oh! U-uh...”
“I can go no worries.” Sugawara said, “Plus I was going to go back to get my sweater.”
“Thanks, Sugawara.” Coach Ukai responded, he then left and Yachi immediately texted you.
“Where can it be?!” you yelled in frustration. Your phone then vibrated in your back pocket. However, you ignored it and let out a small yay of happiness that you found his bag.
“Now I can rest in peace,” you spoke smiling widely holding his bag tightly against your chest and hugging it.
“What...um...are you doing with my bag?...” the happiness didn’t last long and now you were fearful.
Sugawara walked closer and saw your notebook, “I was going to return it to you...I-I accidentally grabbed yours instead of mine. I guess I don’t need to do that anymore.”
“I-I’m sorry...” you mumbled quietly as strands of hair covered your titled downward face. “It’s okay.”
However you never once looked at him you felt embarrassed. He examined your face and saw it was red. He was a bit overwhelmed with the situation not knowing how to decipher it all he knew was that you looked into his bag.
“I-I...um I-I know this looks bad! A-and I have no right to even look through your belongings! M-more or less when you’re about to have practice b-but I-I couldn’t wait...I-I...” you sighed looking at him with watery eyes “I-I’m sorry...”
Sugawara frowned and took a step forward “Was there something important?”
“M-more...like embarrassing.” you mumbled, “I doubt it was anything that bad.”
“Oh trust me...you’d be running towards the hills...”
He chuckled lightly and took the notebook, once you had let go he took it as a sign to look.
Sugawara...he’s the best!
He may be number two on the court but he’ll always be number one in my heart <3
Sugawara was surprised but happy to see that his crush liked him back. His smile grew wider reading all the messages that the notebook had. Even doodles like flowers and hearts, his jersey number was drawn big.
I know how much he is driven to play volleyball and wishes to be on that court. His determination to become better and take care of his teammates but most importantly his friends...is admirable.
KOSHI SUGAWARA <3 <3
(y/n) Sugawara <3
“You must think...I’m a freak.” he shook his head and handed you back the notebook. “I’ve never had someone written anything about me, it’s definitely different but at least now...”
His gaze then connected with yours making your cheeks turn red “I know you feel the same way.”
“H-huh?...” the realization then dawned on you, your heart went wild and it felt like you were on cloud 9. “W-wow...I-I um didn’t expect this to go good.”
“Me...neither but I’m glad it did.”
“Same here.”
You smiled softly feeling a lot more calmed down, he then closed the gap between you both and leaned in. Your eyes closed on their own, butterflies fill your stomach again.
His lips connected with your cheeks as his hands held your own.
“So this is why you took so long.” a voice suddenly spoke, Suga stood next to you holding your hand. “D-Daichi!”
It wasn’t just him the whole team showed up! “FINALLY!” Tanaka and Nishnoya exclaimed, “After a year you finally did it.” Asahi commented “N-Not cool guys!” Sugawara exclaimed, “We’re just happy for you two.” Coach Ukai smirked looking down at you.
“This is going to be talked about forever...” you muttered, “K-I-S-S-I-N-G!” they sang “First comes love then comes to kiss...”
 “Yup.”

chapter 40 sampler
maybe now you’ll understand why it’s a match made in ... well hell AND heaven
Amy and Sheptilah sat next to each other at her heavy wooden table while Eggman sat across from them. The hut was large and well-furnished with overstuffed shelves and wooden chests strewn about. He placed some papers on top of the table and slid it toward Amy.
“Mordred, the Egg Boss of Eurish if you remember, his team found some evidence of wiccaphage activity.”
“Wiccaphage?” Amy’s brow creased.
“Yes, as in ‘witch-eater’. Wicca meaning witch and phage meaning to eat.”
“Wicca is a religion, but go on.” Amy rolled her eyes.
“Anyway,” Eggman cocked his head, “they found the same kind of iron-dissolving marks on nearby buildings from a few years ago. Thunderbolt’s people interviewed the locals and found that there were odd disappearances years ago as well. Five years ago, to be exact.”
“When was the moon destroyed?” Sheptilah bit her thumbnail.
“Five years ago,” he sighed, “so they immediately started causing trouble.”
“But then… I should’ve been awoken immediately. The burst of energy that attracted you in the first place was the only one sent out.”
“I was out there for something else. Finding you was an accident.” Eggman pulled on his glove, “I didn’t go out there after the burst of energy; it happened after I arrived.”
She crossed her legs and bounced her foot nervously, “why would the magic choose you?” She jumped up and grabbed the royal grimoire, dropped it on the table and began flipping through the pages.
“Un-fudging-believable,” she pulled out some of the bookmarks, “okay.” She paused. The spell listed in the book was slightly different from the one that was imposed upon her. It wasn’t unusual for a mage to alter a spell to suit their needs but it was rude of them to not apply their notes to it.
“What is it?” Eggman adjusted his glasses.
“Nobody kept their damned notes the way they should’ve. Then again, I guess they all died after they sealed me up.” The witch crossed her arms. “I honestly don’t know why you were chosen.”
“Divine retribution for blowing up the moon in the first place!” Amy flashed a sharp-toothed grin. All of the Mobian hedgehogs had fangs, but Amy rarely showed hers.
“Unless… there is a theory,” Sheptilah interrupted, “about the sun and the moon.”
“A theory or a prophecy?” The hedgehog mused.
“The Red King and the White Queen. The sun and the moon ‘marry’,” she used finger quotes, “or come together soul-to-soul. It’s an allegory of two conflicting forces coming together to create the rebis. I think the rebis would be whatever we defeat these wiccaphages with. It’s gotta be the staff my mothers designed.”
Amy gripped the table. “Where does this leave Shadow?” Her heart was beating hard and fast. All of this was exciting to her.
“Shadow is the third facet in the tria prima! He’s salt! Salt is all about what’s left over between life and death, right? And we all know his story fits that allegory. Gods, it makes so much sense!” Sheptilah grabbed a pencil and flipped to a blank page in the grimoire and started scribbling in cuneiform.
“The universe is bringing us together to fulfill this alchemic theory,” Sheptilah spoke rapidly, “I should’ve known. There’s always a reason for something.”
“What the heck are you talking about?” The overlander was very confused.
“Eggman, you’re the sun.” The little pink apprentice slammed her fist on the table, “the universe chose you for this on purpose. That’s why the crystal didn’t call for you until you were close enough. You were predestined for this. All three of you. Mercury, sulfur and salt are what metaphorically make up all of the universe.”
“But marriage?” He squinted.
“It’s not literal, you doofus,” Tilly stuck out her tongue, “I’m the moon and you are the sun.” She brushed her hair behind her ear, “sulfur and mercury.”
“It makes so much sense!” Amy jumped up, “mercury is the moon, right? Mercury is a shapeshifting material both literally and metaphorically. That’s what you are, Sheptilah! And Eggman is sulfur! Active, fiery and volatile!” She was jumping up and down, “oh my God! It’s all coming together!”
“Ladies,” Eggman was thrown off guard by their enthusiasm, “the sun?”
“You were meant to be together!” Amy sighed wistfully, “It’s almost romantic.”
Sheptilah bit her lip, she didn’t want the budding feelings known to anyone. She hadn’t even told her familiar. It was a simple crush, nothing more.
“Amy, you need to lay off the pulp novels,” Eggman chuckled.
“Sulfur represents wants and desires,” Tilly interrupted again, “salt is the manifestation of hard work and mercury is the constant movement between shapes.”
“You’re always pursuing your goals to no end, Shadow is an engineered being and Sheptilah is always moving between here and G.U.N.” Amy explained. “Sheptilah has white hair and you wear red, primarily.”
Eggman’s eyes grew a bit wider with understanding, “and sulfur smells like eggs.”
Sheptilah sat down and rested her head on her grimoire, “my head hurts.”
“My mind is blown,” the hedgehog squealed, “oh my gosh!”
