She also kept on calling Beomgyu handsome even with a little tissue up his nose which he was embarrassed about. “What? ྀི ‘magic island’ moas saw a wholesome moment between Joohyung and Beomgyu because they were holding hands and Beomgyu was caressing Joohyung’s hand with his thumb. Even the camera man zoomed in on the moment making moas ‘awe’

on a lonely evening after dinner, you decided to lay on bed while you scrolled through your phone. missing your beautiful boyfiend's face, you wandered over to tiktok and began scrolling through all the videos that came up under his name.

some were funny jokes, some videos of concerts and fan interactions - which you couldn't help but smile at, he was always so sweet with his moas.

your favourite by far though had to be the edits. some were cute, others sultry with some chase atlantic song playing in the background. some were just compilations of him being sweet and goofy ~ boyfriend energy.

you felt lucky to be the one who actually got to see him as a boyfriend - your sweet boyfriend.

turns out watching tiktok edits only made you miss him more. as you scrolled, you saved some of your favourites. even though you missed him, seeing his handsome face definitely took some of the ache away.

he creeped over to you to investigate and turn it off so that you could have a peaceful rest - but when he lifted the phone from your limp hand, he quirked an eyebrow to see his own face on the screen. the video had looped countless times already, and it began again as taehyun sat back to watch whatever it is you were watching before he got home.

it was a fan edit of him, 'taehyun boyfriend energy' as the caption stated. he couldn't help the breathy laugh that escaped his lips ~ what did you need this for? you had the real thing right in front of you!

usually taehyun didn't snoop, but he was curious and already had your tiktok open in his hand ~ why not? he made sure the volume was muted so you didn't stir, then went to your likes. just as he suspected, it was full of him. he especially took notice of your saved videos, one of the two folders you had made being named 'for when i miss him,' the other one being, 'my fav tae-toks.'

he let a snort out at your goofy 'tae-tok' pun, but he felt his heart break a little at the feeling he may not have been around enough for you, to the point you had to watch silly boyfriend edits of him in substitute for the real thing. he found it cute though, how even when you were apart you were thinking of him.

he locked your phone, placing it on his bedside table, and changed into some more comfortable clothes so he could slide into bed next to you and hold you close to him. the movement jostled you from your sleep a little, making you whine out a little "tyun?"

he shushed you and stroked your hair, holding your head against his chest. "shh go to sleep princess. i'm here."

you smiled against his chest and drifted back off. he desperately wanted you to know you didn't need to watch him on a screen, and he'd come running to you any time you needed it - and he'd tell you all that later - but for now he wanted to rest up and let you sleep peacefully in his arms.

oh and he was Definitely gonna tease the living hell out of you later.

I think we (Rick) missed a LOT of potential with platonic relationships throughout the series'. Platonic relationships were definitely handled better in PJO but in HoO the friendships just seem to be sidelined (I havent read ToA yet so I can't speak on it)

I think Caleo could have benefitted both characters a LOT if they'd just been friends, and Leo's arc could've been handled a lot better that way too. In PJO Percy and Grover's friendship is PEAK, but we see him less and less throughout the series, and then we see him a grand total of like, twice in HoO, and neither of those are of him in person, and only one kinda interacting with Percy. Rachel doesn't get a chance to really be friends with Percy and Annabeth, we just have to trust that they became besties off-screen. Hazel and Frank get together wayyy too quickly imo, and it would've been nice to see them as just friends for a bit longer. We were absolutely ROBBED of certain platonic pairings, like Leo and Nico or Piper and Percy. Another issue is that pairings get established and then immediately thrown under the bus. In TLH, it's stated from the beginning that Leo and Piper are super close, but they don't have many interactions alone after that at ALL, and Leo constantly says that he feels left out, while Piper constantly talks about how Annabeth is her closest friend (thats a whole other convo abt queer undertones but y'know). Same thing happens with Percy with Hazel & Frank, their friendship is built over the course of SoN, but then by MoA it seems to be mostly forgotten.

HoTD moots I'm sorry again. This isn't my last pjo rant.

I'm continuing the deep dive into the Did Leo Bully Frank allegations, moving into House of Hades, where things get a bit more murky.

I'm not going to fully recap MoA read my other insane nerdy rant, but basically. Last we left them, Frank had disliked Leo, been antagonistic towards Leo, Leo was nervous around him and teased him a few times, they finally talk and become friends. But, everything is kicking off on a sour note. No one is happy.

Right at the beginning of HoH, we don't actually get much interactions between Leo and Frank until these scenes.

I'd like to note here that Leo's birthday is July 7th. so that's fun. He's not feeling too great about all the ghost talk. I didn't include it, but there's a scene of Hazel talking about Leo being angrier and more serious early on as well. Leo is thinking about loss and death quite a lot in this novel.

Then we get to Frank's pov and Boy Is It Different.

First, I'll also point out Frank remembers the whole his clothes getting sent out and destroyed on Buford but very clearly doesn't characterize it as Leo 'throwing his clothes overboard'. Even in the state Frank is in, he knows Leo didn't purposely destroy his clothes.

But Frank still has issues.

You can note that Frank actually starts off this thought process by essentially complementing Leo, but then Mars and Ares pop in - suddenly, Frank is now saying how Leo constantly teased him.

This is one of those things I think people are going to interpret differently depending on your bias. I have a Leo bias, and having shown that Leo was NOT constantly teasing him in MoA, at least from what is written, I think this is mostly influence from Mars/Ares. Leo does tease, he teases Jason in this book I think more than he does Frank, so I wouldn't ever say Leo doesn't tease people, he absolutely can be a little shit; but the difference is that it's rarely maliciously done on Leo's part. When Leo noticed Frank was embarrassed at the end of the last book, he stopped himself from making comments. We've also seen that Leo is also not great at realizing if his comments are being taken negatively, even if he doesn't mean them in that manner.

However, like I said, Hazel noted Leo's been stressed, not sleeping, and angrier than usual at the beginning of HoH. Leo blames himself for what happened to Annabeth and Percy. Leo is starting to think he'll probably die, and he's horribly lonely. Maybe he has been razzing Frank more offpage, and we just don't see it written. But because we do not see Leo explicitly dig at Frank's weight or looks or intelligence, I am personally still more of the opinion that it's the product of Mars/Ares.

We then get this scene

Frank says Leo had stopped making jokes at his expense here, but again, not trying to beat a dead horse at this point, we've not really seen Leo do that at all this book. Frank now has more confidence and feels more worthwhile in his place on the Argo after his Venice battle- I think Frank is now less insecure and those voices are piping in less. Again, I could be wrong, but this seems very similar to last book. Frank spent the majority of the book being very antagonist, then wonders why on earth Leo would be nervous around him. There's things clouding Frank's judgement that clear up, and suddenly, he's getting on with Leo much better. Shocker.

(that being said Frank does suggest leaving Leo in Croatia just for making a pun not even at his expense, so make of that what you will lmao)

Reaching the Calypso chapters, there's a lot I could get into. I'll eventually do a break down on just them and why I don't love caleo, but I'll save that for another day. Still - Frank is someone Leo actually makes a point of trying to help once he finds out Calypso has fireproof fabric.

Frank is his friend in Leo's mind, someone he wants to save too. Leo is big on trying to save people. I wonder why, definitely didn't come from childhood trauma or watching his mom burn to death or anything. Moving on.

Finally, Leo returns from Ogygia, Frank is said to have patted him so hard on the back it made Leo wince. Clearly he hates him.

But in all seriousness I think the slow progression of Leo and Frank's relationship is one of the better done character developments in HoO. It's slow, it's subtle it culminates in Frank hugging him next book, and Frank using Leo and Jason as inspiration for using up his wood piece.

The big scene to finish off this book are these pages. If Frank hated Leo, if he felt like Leo was only ever mocking him, trying to hurt his feelings, this would not have happened.

Frank trusts Leo.

Leo trusts Frank.

They're not afraid of each other anymore, they're not scared. They mutually trust one another and know they'll have each other's backs.

That is why Leo trusts only Frank and Hazel with his plan in the next book.

Those words echoed painfully in your head as you saw your crush, Noh Yunah, having a conversation with Moa at a bench close by. Yunah’s eyes met yours, giving a small wave in hopes you would finally notice her after literally ghosting her messages since your confession.

You looked away with a tug at your heart, knowing that interacting with Yunah would bring you even more hurt. She was your best friend since childhood and it was heart breaking to know that you basically ruined that relationship by stupidly telling her that you had feelings for her.

“Hey, stop looking at her” Jiwoo warned, tapping her pen at your knuckles.

“Sorry” You muttered into your arm.

“And stop listening to Exile by Taylor Swift on repeat. It’s not healthy” Yunjin hissed, pausing the song on your phone and taking your earbuds off.

“By the way guys” Jiwoo cleared her throat. “I have a partner assignment in my English unit so basically my buddy will be joining us for lunches from now on to work on our project. Is that alright?”

“Everyone, this is Chanelle Moon. She’s also a sport major, and runs the sports club on campus. Chanelle, you already know Yunjin and Chaewon but this is Funa and Y/n” Jiwoo introduced.

“Hi, it’s nice to meet you!” Funa greeted with a wave.

Chanelle tilted her head at you. “You seem familiar…oh! You’re the girl I always see with Yunah, right?”

Your friends seemed to be surprised at your sudden burst of energy as if you weren’t complaining like some crazy sad woman a few minutes ago. Yunjin leant her lips close to her girlfriend’s ear. “They’re cute together”

After a few weeks and during more lunch breaks, you and Chanelle find yourselves talking more than her working on the partner project with Jiwoo. Jiwoo even had to tell you off for apparently trying to sabotage her grades but deep down, she was all on board with Yunjin, Chaewon, and Funa on the ChanY/n ship.

You were doing well in forgetting about Yunah, but it went downhill when Chanelle invited you to watch her at soccer practice that was for an upcoming sport event on campus. You forgot Yunah was part of that team and was involved in all events.

You were sat down with your friends on the bleachers while the soccer team was warming up. Yunah smiled when she spotted you within the small audience, taking a few steps towards you to finally talk after being ghosted but Chanelle beat her to it. The half American jogged your way, her smile getting impossibly wider.

“Hey Y/n! I’m so happy to see you here. Even though it’s just for my practice but still, I appreciate it a lot”

You smiled back, waving a container of fruit in her face. “Anything to support you, Chanz. Here’s some fruit I prepared for you”

“She’s my best friend too. Don’t take it personally Yunah, I met her through Jiwoo.”

Yunah huffed and scratched her ear. “Do you like Y/n or something?”

“And why do you care?”

“Just protective of her, that’s all” Yunah shrugged that got Chanelle chuckling.

“Hey, Y/n is free to like whoever she wants. I’m just trying not to let an opportunity slide” Chanelle said and ran to the centre of the field.

The two teams got into position, Yunah and Chanelle standing by the ball, awaiting the coach’s whistle. The moment they heard the ring, the teams starting playing as the timer began.

Chanelle managed to snatch the ball from Moa and run her way down the large field, sending a big kick into the goal. She pumped her fist into the air before pointing at you.

“That’s for you, Y/n!” She yelled, sending you into a blushing mess.

“She totally likes you” Funa muttered in your ear.

“And I think I’m starting to like her too” You smiled, shaking your head at Chanelle who was now dancing to celebrate her little goal.

After a few more matches, Chanelle shot her 10th goal just before the coach blew the whistle to end the game.

“Great practice girls! Chanelle, you totally smashed it out there, very proud of you” Coach praised the half American, patting her back.

Chanelle bowed before taking her belongings and running towards you, engulfing you in another huge hug, spinning you around.

“Yah, put me down!” You laughed.

Yunah, having enough, stomped your way and yanked Chanelle away from you. “Y/n!”

Your frowned when you saw the worsening bruise at the side of her eye. “Oh my god, it looks so bad”

Chanelle winced when your fingers gently brushed over it. “It’ll go away within a week. No biggie”

You rushed to grab an ice pack from her freezer and placed it over the bruise. “I’m so sorry she hit you. It’s not like Yunah”

“Is it that bad?”

You pulled the ice pack a few centimetres away to check. “It’s kinda hot actually” You said louder than intended. “Oh oops, that was supposed to stay in my mind”

Chanelle smirked and made you place the ice pack on the table. “It’s hot, is it Miss Y/n?” She taunted and made you sit on her lap.

Your face was redder than ever. It didn’t help that Chanelle was looking up at you with that stupid hot smirk of her’s. You wanted to kiss it away.

“Kiss it away then”

“I really need to stop speaking my mind” you groaned into her chest.

She brushed her fingers through your hair. “Hey Y/n, I know we kinda confessed already but I wanna ask you properly. Do you want to be my girlfriend?”

“Yes” you muttered into her chest, still embarrassed about what you said earlier.

“Oh come on, at least look at me when you answer”

You sat up and pouted. “I said yes”

“Yay! Y/n is finally my girlfriend~” She cutely cheered and hugged you like a plushie. “You don’t understand how happy I am”

“I’m so happy too, Chanz. Thank you”

“Aw don’t get mushy now. Let me take a shower and we can watch a movie on Netflix” She smiled at you.

“Wanna shower together?”

She dramatically gasped. “You haven’t even taken me out on a date yet!”

“What the- YOU’RE supposed to take ME out on a date! Some romantic loser you are” You scowled playfully.

“I’m kidding. Of course we can shower together!”

You rubbed her shoulders lovingly. “I don’t have spare clothes though”

“Idiot, you can use mine”

“Alright, Stinky. Let’s hit the showers”

“Don’t I get a reward for scoring all the goals tonight?” She pouted her lips at you and putting on her best puppy dog eyes.

“Ok fine” You chuckled at her cuteness and pressed your lips against her’s.

After reading that bit during the Tartarus flashback where (in classic Riordanverse fashion) they forgot the timeline and had Nico thinking about Jason as a close friend even though canonically they were only vaguely acquainted at that point I've been thinking... why weren't they friends before Nico's first trip to Tartarus?

I mean, both of them have very good reason to want to be on the other's good side: as praetor Jason would logically want to be on good terms with the direct ambassador of a god, and Nico would logically want to be on good terms with the leaders of the group he's lowkey spying on. And we know from canon that once they start actually interacting they get on super well! And it would help explain why Nico could just show up at camp with Hazel like "Hey so this is my sister don't mind how she has no records and acts like she's from the '30s she's one of you now 'kay bye" and that was just accepted if he was close to the praetors instead of canon's impression of him being vaguely tolerated in New Rome at most and only respected at all because fucking with Pluto's ambassador would be... unwise. It would just in general make more sense for them to be at least friendly acquaintances, and given Nico's canon relationships with both Jason and Reyna "friendly acquaintances" would absolutely quickly transition into full friendship.

And honestly Jason and Nico being friends pre-TLH would make the bit in MoA where the Seven argue about whether or not Nico can be trusted so much more interesting and so much less infuriating. As it is in canon it just feels super unfair, because the only evidence any of them give for him being untrustworthy is "Well he knew about both camps" when all the gods and Chiron and Lupa also knew about both camps and also said nothing despite them being at a much lower risk of being smote for blabbing than Nico would be, and it's confirmed that Chiron at least swore to keep the secret and there's no evidence that Nico didn't. The only character who actually has the right to feel at all betrayed on a personal level is Hazel, and she doesn't because she loves and trusts her brother and also seems to grasp that the secret wasn't actually Nico's to share; even with Percy (and Annabeth, although unless I'm forgetting something she never really comments on it), Nico's never actually willingly confided in him even about minor things so I don't see why he's getting so butthurt about Nico not telling him one of the biggest known secrets of the modern age that the gods have. Percy and Nico aren't actually friends, they're friendly acquaintances at best, I don't see why Percy gets so pissy that Nico didn't break what is clearly a pretty major rule (given even the gods follow it without any fuss until it becomes obvious that the secret's going to come out anyway) for him. But if Nico and Jason were friends that would open up a much more interesting angle for the argument than just "How dare he keep this secret that literally everyone else who knew about it has kept for over a century"! "I thought he was my friend and he was lying to me about who he was the whole time" is a much more understandable and interesting reason to question someone than just him not telling everyone something that he wasn't even supposed to know! Hazel knew that there was something up with Nico from the start and Percy and Annabeth at least knew he was a son of Hades rather than Pluto (and again were not his friends and so shouldn't have expected him to confide in them anyway), but if Nico had actual friends in Camp Jupiter who really did think he was an ambassador from Pluto they would have every right to feel at least a little betrayed and question what else he might have been hiding from them. Jason absolutely wanting to save Nico but also feeling betrayed that his close friend had been lying about who he was the entire time they'd known each other would be much stronger and more compelling than canon's "He did this thing that basically every immortal we're on speaking terms with also did but he is uniquely untrustworthy because of it".

Also it would open up some fun possibilities for scenes. For example, I love the idea of one of the Greek cast mentioning Nico after Jason regains his memories and Jason just going "Wait you mean Nico like our Nico?" and everyone else going "What do you mean your Nico?" It would also give Nico friends and a place where he felt reasonably welcome, which would be nice and could've been used as evidence for the "You pushed away people who wanted to be your friend" angle Rick went with from BoO onwards, since him having people who cared about him (who he initially was friendly with primarily because he kind of had to be, which would justify what made Jason and Reyna different from everyone else he interacts with) would show that yeah, Nico had proof people wanted to be around him which he very much does not in canon. Plus it would be an opportunity to get into what Nico was thinking and feeling re knowing this huge secret that he couldn't tell anyone and having to keep it from people he cared about and didn't want to lie to (side note, I am now wondering if Rick didn't go into that because there was really no way to interrogate a traumatized fourteen year old in terms of "Why didn't you share this huge secret that not even the gods breathed a word of in over a century" that would make the interrogators look good and none of the Seven show any interest in the matter outside of those terms).

...Also. y'know. a Jasico fic featuring them dating prior to TLH and Hera wiping Jason's memories of having a boyfriend and still giving Piper and Leo false memories of Piper and Jason dating would both be very fun and angsty as a concept and would play very nicely into the themes of comphet in Jason and Piper's relationship. And would fit the way Hera very openly thinks that Nico isn't part of "her family" in BotL! So there's that also.
