there are a lot of small changes I disagree with in the rwrb movie, but the most inexcusable is Ellen and Oscar still being married. Alex's fear of abandonment, his fight to be perfect, his need to be exactly what his mom wants- it all comes back to his rocky childhood and his dad leaving. even if they didn't have time to introduce Leo or explain the divorce, acting like it never happened completely destroys Alex's motivations as a character and I will never understand why the did it
