dream merch discord recap (june 12, 2021) - disclaimer: i may have missed some things or mistakenly heard other things, apologies in advanced for that!
he has not played the new minecraft update
dream “knows” the date george is coming to florida but he’s not saying it :p
dream doesn’t have anyone muted on twitter
dream guesses his favorite disney princess is belle
sapnap has seen dream’s feet before
he’s not actually connor’s dad in the dsmp lore
dreamnap do not have nicknames for each other D:
dream likes olives but especially black olives
his mother makes homemade pickles
he doesn’t have a phone case
he has dropped his phone from his ear onto concrete in the parking lot before and the screen didn’t crack
dream has six fingers /j
he pours cereal first not milk when making cereal
dream calls sapnap nick most of the time :D
what’s your dream car? “idk the one that gets me to point A to point B consistently”
he finally fixed his sleep schedule, woke up at 8 am today
mrbeast owes dream a tesla because he never sent dream the audio file
dream is a very analytical person - he thinks with numbers/data
creativity is one his strengths that he is the most proud of
3 to 4 years ago, dream used to say george looks like shawn mendes a lot, now he doesn’t resemble him as much
patches is currently sleeping <3
swimming is very relaxing to dream, he swam the other day!
many houses in florida have pools than other places, even the cheapest houses in orlando have pools
dream has merchendise defects (misprints on merch) + milestone merch and he wants to give them away to those who live in orlando (probably to anyone but the event will be held in orlando) though he doesn’t want it to be a covid super-spreader thing so once you pick up your item you gotta dip. just all an idea though
he has been donating them to charity too though :)
dream has likely read Heroes of Olympus before a long time ago
he says that he’ll do a give away of his childhood books with his signature on it
he was obsessed with the series (Percy Jackson)
he really liked the Alex Rider series
has all of Maximum Ride books, 39 clues books
has read the legend series, the twilight series, and the maze runner
has all/read of the harry potter books, divergent, eragon
he would read all the time, to the point he would read more than one book a day (a book worm he says)
dream had a goal to read 200 books in a year and he wind up reading about 150
he doesn’t want to call it a library but- growing up he had something like that that had 600 or 700 or more books in it (privileged he admits it)
he has not read a book since he started youtube (about 2 years)
dream has a folder called Book that has his own writing in it
word count: 76000 words for one of his stories
another one he wrote 5 chapters of
he sounds very excited/embarrassed talking about the stories he wrote he’s so endearing
the very first paragraph of one of his stories (he was young when he wrote this) “What exactly is darkness? is it the lack of light? is it a pit of nothingness? ... your mind is full of darkness...” then he couldn’t continue.
the story is about a kid who wakes up in a cell and has no idea where he is with other people who are in the same situation
dream has a world building document
he has a sequel to the first book he has ever written
he found a query letter that he wrote because he wanted to get his book published- he finds it very funny
he’s calling himself a nerd but idk it’s kind of endearing
“as you can tell i’ve always been incredibly cool and not a nerd at all! ever.”
he cringes at his own old videos
dream took a lot of inspiration from witches and wizards by james patterson for writing
the story is written in a way where the main character is actually writing the story so you’re getting input from the main character during it. there’s a lot of sarcasm in it and it’s making dream laugh
very first person narrator
he feels like it’d be very cool if he were to publish his works he wrote when he was 16 on amazon or something but he probably never would because he’d have to read through all of it and it’s just embarrassing for him
dream used to video call sapnap fairly frequently- even before youtube
he strictly remembers, a very long time (at least 7 to 9 years) ago he was at his old childhood house he video called sapnap. he was wearing a (technically) suit and he remembers specifically that he was giving sap a tour...
“snazzy in a suit”
he had no reason to put on the suit (wow time is a flat circle huh)
drista is pretty close to sapnap’s height, she’s like 5′7″ but sap is still taller than her
dream filmed the whole thing when he and sapnap met but... it’s... gone because when he was clipping that one clip for twitter... it edited the whole video
he’s sure when they meet up with george they will film that too :D
DREAM IS PRETTY SURE THAT HE AND GEORGE WILL MEET THIS YEAR-- HE SAYS A 95% CERTAINTITY the five percent is like either restrictions or visa issues
dream does not play any instruments but he had a guitar hanging on his wall when he was younger...
dream is convinced they’re the same height but also sapnap is probably taller??
they had george compare his height to a door frame and dreamnap were googling for any doorframes to find any possible chance that george is taller than 5′8″ ... nothing came up
there’s a chance they’re both lying about being 5′8″
sap and george will literally just show up in stilts to prove they’re taller than each other /j
dream without shoes is between 6′2″ and 6′3″ with shoes he’s 6′3.5″
dream is talking about awesamdude’s fake height arc again LOL
dreamnap are very private people so they don’t bother each other but george doesn’t care and would just barge into their rooms and start bothering them- they were all joking about that over a voice call
he will visit europe
he thinks that greece would be a cool place to visit because sapnap’s family is from there :) so it’ll be like a nice “treat” to go back with sap :D
dream isn’t entirely sure that the dream team meet up will happen this year but he’s working out the details because he wants to make sure it’s safe
he’s talking to youtube about his face reveal
it’s up to george if he wants to eat healthy when they finally move in
dream just has a lot of meat and vegetables in his house
spinach with chicken is good
not much fruit (only apples and tomatoes)
“DRISTA IS 5″ is trending on twitter LOL (her height got cut off)
dream doesn’t want people flying to different places because he doesn’t want to encourage travel so he wants to do all of the meet ups with a two day heads up at most
he thinks that it’s awesome that ranboo and tubbo are meeting soon !! :D
it’s very cool to dream to see how far everyone’s has come since the beginning of the dsmp. everyone has done so much
dream finalized his youtube plan a couple weeks before he uploaded his video and he was talking to drista about how he was gonna be a big youtuber in a parking lot :”)
she was the first person he really ever talked to about it
dream would love to teach george how to drive it’d be really funny :D (a very good video or a livestream idea)
dream knows how to ride a bike, he used to have to bike to school
he can’t explain dnf.gay he has no clue he is not responsible. sapnap was the one who found it LOL. he is adamantly exclaiming that it was not him
dream doesn’t worry about views/likes/dislikes a lot- mainly views but that’s for the new uploads
he hasn’t uploaded in like a month and a half (*cries*)
he wants to stream at some point but he doesn’t know when
he wants to play geoguessr but not now... he doesn’t want to alt stream rn- maybe tomorrow!
he is insisting that the splash text on his minecraft home screen is by callahan
he asked callahan to send him bunch of text files that are dream team related so that the splash can rotate through it but callahan thought it was funny (it is) to put only dreamnotfound <3 so it doesn’t ever change at all and dream doesn’t even know how to change and he has asked callahan to change it but he said no (even though dream pays him LMAO)
the video referenced in the padilla’s video is still in the works, it might be handed over to sapnap though !
he has no idea if he will be in MCC pride yet
padilla got dream’s input for the video, dream found him to be a very nice guy ! :) it’s the first interview that dream did that wasn’t by a person with a negative opinion of dream
dream felt relaxed doing the interview with padilla
?????? he’s blaming callahan for his “dnfisreal” nickname in bedwars
he’s blaming callahan for a lot of dnf-related stuff
callahan runs the dream fanart account thus the liking of dnf content
he’s so insistent that it was callahan
dream admits that he was lying about the twitter and other stuff but for sure callahan did code the splash text in LOL
dream liking that tweet “the chances of george doing a hot tub stream is the same of dnf dating” was “funny” he wasnt trying to do any commentary...
the inside joke of “oh it’s all just a joke to you” originates from george and sapnap actually always fighting (like them yelling and shouting at each other) and george said something really mean and sapnap was hurt then geroge said “it was just a joke” and sapnap replied with that line and ever since then it’s been a meme LOL
he says that everyone does the hand-on-the-passenger-seat-while-reversing thing
dream is offline raiding with his chat with 6k people
dream appreciates us and will talk to us soon!

Support At Tube Mastery And Monetization
What good is a fantastic training program going to do you if there is NO help and support?
It would be worthless.
Support is the backbone of any successful training program.
Without it, you might as well throw in the towel right now.
The help and support at TMM come in the form of a Facebook group.
Once you join, you’ll gain exclusive access to this private group.
You can bump heads with other successful YouTubers as well as Matt himself.
Ask questions, get support, hear about other people’s experiences, and interact with six and seven-figure income earners in the industry.
My Tube Mastery AND Monetization Review Conclusion
If you have ever wanted to launch a YouTube channel but lacked the information and knowledge to do so, TMM was created just for you.
Due to Matt’s extensive experience and success with YouTube, you won’t find a better teacher anywhere in the online space.
While some people may feel like this course is expensive, it’s not.
Instead of looking at this as an expense, look at it as an investment in your future.
If someone offered to teach you how to make a million dollars on YouTube, how much would that be worth to you?
Let that sink in for a minute.
Having a mindset like this is imperative if you want to have any long term success online.
Without learning the right mindset hacks, you won’t get far in this industry.
If you’ve yearned for your 15 minutes of fame, you can now claim it on YouTube.
With an ever-growing platform, YouTube is the most popular video-sharing social media site of the web.
The site itself receives millions of traffic daily from all across the globe.
If you could tap into just 3% of this, you’d be earning more than a full-time income each month.

UN: Millions driven from homes in 2020 (AP) The U.N. refugee agency says war, violence, persecution and human rights violations caused nearly 3 million people to flee their homes last year, even though the COVID-19 crisis restricted movement worldwide as countries shut borders and ordered lockdowns. In its latest Global Trends report released on Friday, UNHCR says the cumulative total of displaced people has risen to 82.4 million—roughly the population of Germany. It marks the ninth straight annual increase in the number of people forcibly displaced. Filippo Grandi, the United Nations high commissioner for refugees, said conflict and the impact of climate change in places such as Mozambique, Ethiopia’s Tigray region and Africa’s broad Sahel area were among the leading sources of new movements of refugees and internally displaced people in 2020.
The pandemic and your teeth (Washington Post) Beyond its psychological toll, the coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc on our bodies: Many people have put on pounds, picked at their skin, broken their toes—and, according to dentists, damaged their teeth. As more Americans return to dental offices, practitioners say they’re seeing a significant rise in tooth-grinding and jaw-clenching likely brought on by pandemic-related stress and anxiety. They’re also seeing an increase in cavities and gum disease that may be due to a combination of lapsed appointments, pandemic eating and drinking habits, and less-than-stellar brushing and flossing. In a February survey conducted by the American Dental Association, 76 percent of general practice dentists said the prevalence of teeth-grinding, or bruxism, among their patients had increased compared to pre-pandemic times. About two-thirds reported seeing a rise in associated problems of chipped and cracked teeth as well as headache and jaw pain symptoms, the survey found. Meanwhile, about 30 percent of respondents said they observed more tooth decay and periodontal disease, an infection of the tissues surrounding teeth, in their patients.
Tropical system to bring heavy rain, flooding to Gulf Coast (AP) Forecasters predict a tropical system will bring heavy rain, storm surge and coastal flooding to the northern Gulf Coast as early as Friday and throughout the weekend. A tropical storm warning was in effect for parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida—extending from Intracoastal City, Louisiana, to the Okaloosa-Walton County line in the Florida Panhandle, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. The system is expected to produce up to 8 inches (20 centimeters) of rain across the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico, and up to 12 inches (30 centimeters) through the weekend along the central U.S. Gulf Coast.
‘El Chapo’ has been locked up for 5 years, but business has never been better for the Sinaloa cartel (Business Insider) It’s been five years since Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán was arrested for the last time. He’s been in a US “supermax” prison since 2017, serving a life sentence after being found guilty of all 10 federal charges he faced. But according to official US data, security analysts, and some of his own lawyers, business has never been better for his cartel. At the time, US authorities said Guzmán’s arrest was “a significant victory and a milestone” in combating violence and drug trafficking. Richard Donoghue, former US attorney for the Eastern District of New York, said Guzmán would never again “pour poison into our country or make millions as innocent lives are lost.” While El Chapo has been portrayed as a guiding force for the infamous Sinaloa Cartel, his organization and other criminal groups don’t seem to miss him.      According to official US figures, since Guzmán’s arrest the influx of drugs into the US and the violence in Mexico have never been worse. Cocaine seizures in the US jumped from more than 52,000 pounds in 2016 to more than 62,000 pounds the following year. The total for 2021, as of April, is 62,324 pounds. In 2015, with Guzmán still at large, 29,000 pounds of meth were recovered in the US. Five years later, with El Chapo locked up, seizures inside the US jumped to 117,600 pounds. So if El Chapo is locked up for 23 hours a day in a 7-foot-by-12-food soundproof cell but drug busts are at an all-time high, what exactly was the point in arresting him? Guzmán’s arrest has also failed to reduce bloodshed in Mexico. Homicides there have steadily risen in recent years, jumping from about 10,000 a year in 2014 to almost 20,000 in 2020, the highest annual total in Mexican history. Criminal organizations in Mexico have proliferated, from 20 in 2000 to more than 200 in 2021. That growth is due in large part to the fragmentation of larger cartels after their leaders have been captured or killed.
After Pandemic and Brexit, U.K. Begins to See Gaps Left by European Workers (NYT) Agnieszka Bleka has had to work hard in past years to find companies that need workers, spending much of her day reaching out to local businesses in the northern English city of Preston where she is based. But now, Ms. Bleka, who owns Workforce Consultants, a company that finds jobs in Britain for mostly Eastern and Central Europeans, said that she was fielding several calls a day from companies looking for temporary staff, and that she can’t keep up with the demand. “The fish pond is getting smaller,” she said. “And people are picking and choosing the jobs, or leaving as well, going to their home countries.” Free movement between Britain and Europe technically ended at the start of 2021 because of Brexit, but the effects were masked by strict pandemic travel restrictions. Only lately, as the economy picks up steam, is the new reality beginning to be fully felt. And there is little question that many companies are having considerable trouble filling jobs.
It’s Not Too Late to Avert a Historic Shame (The Atlantic) In the past few weeks, the outlook for Afghans who helped the United States in Afghanistan has gone from worrying to critical. As U.S. and NATO troops leave the country with breathtaking speed, the Taliban are attacking districts that had long been in the Afghan government’s hands, setting up checkpoints on major roads, and threatening provincial capitals. Many of the 18,000 Afghans who, along with their families, have applied for Special Immigrant Visas will soon have nowhere to hide, no armed force standing between them and their pursuers. The unfolding disaster has seized the attention of international organizations, American news outlets, veterans’ groups, and members of Congress. On June 4, a bipartisan coalition of House members (many of them veterans), called the Honoring Our Promises Working Group, released a passionate statement that urged the Biden administration to skip the cumbersome ordeal of reviewing thousands of visa applications and instead evacuate these Afghans and their families to the U.S. territory of Guam, where they can be processed in safety. (The governor of Guam has declared that the island is prepared to accept them.)      The Association of Wartime Allies, a veterans’ group, keeps a tracker of how many flights a day will be needed to get these endangered Afghans out if all U.S. forces leave Afghanistan by September 11, as President Joe Biden has promised, or July 4, as now seems a likelier end point. Between this past Tuesday and July 4, 17 flights carrying 3,737 people would have to take off daily. With every passing day, of course, the number of flights goes up, and the logistics get harder. Right now, there are zero daily flights to save Afghans who helped Americans. As far as I can tell, the administration does not intend to evacuate Afghans anytime soon, if ever. That U.S. officials don’t want to take the extreme step of organizing flights out of Afghanistan is understandable, but at this point, nothing else will keep our Afghan allies safe. If we leave without them, they will be killed one at a time. Their deaths will be obscure, and the news might not reach us for weeks or years, if it ever does at all, but they will haunt our memory.
Myanmar Fire Kills Two (CNN) Myanmar’s security forces reportedly set fire to the village of Kin Ma, in the central part of the country, after clashing with opponents of the ruling junta. Two elderly people in the village of 800 burned to death when they were unable to flee. About 200 homes were reduced to piles of ash and bricks by the blaze that was large enough to be recorded by NASA’s satellite fire-tracking system at 9:52 pm local time Tuesday. Most of the village’s residents continued hiding in nearby forests, but those who returned Wednesday said only about 25 homes remained. Myanmar has been gripped by violence and protests since the military overthrew elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi on February 1. Western condemnation of the junta has grown due to the military’s use of force against its opponents. One human rights group said security forces have killed more than 860 civilians.
Bear goes on rampage in Japan, storms military base, airport (Washington Post) A wild bear went on a rampage in the northern Japanese city of Sapporo on Friday, storming a Japanese military base, forcing its way into an airport and injuring four people, before being shot. Dangerous encounters between bears and humans have risen sharply in Japan in recent years, with the animals increasingly coming down from their mountain habitats in search of food. Last year, experts blamed a shortage of acorns in the mountains for a surge in sightings, but there is a deeper reason: Japan’s shrinking rural population. The trend has led to the abandonment of farmlands in the foothills that once formed buffer zones between the bears’ mountain homes and the populous flatlands. As a result, the bears’ habitat has expanded into these flatter lands and closer to human populations.
Iran votes in presidential poll tipped in hard-liner’s favor (AP) Iran voted Friday in a presidential election tipped in the favor of a hard-line protege of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, fueling public apathy and sparking calls for a boycott in the Islamic Republic. State-linked opinion polling and analysts put hard-line judiciary chief Ebrahim Raisi as the dominant front-runner in a field of just four candidates. If elected, Raisi would be the first serving Iranian president sanctioned by the U.S. government even before entering office over his involvement in the mass execution of political prisoners in 1988, as well as his time as the head of Iran’s internationally criticized judiciary—one of the world’s top executioners. It also would firmly put hard-liners in control across the Iranian government as negotiations in Vienna continue over trying to save Tehran’s tattered nuclear deal with world powers, as it enriches uranium to the closest point yet to weapons-grade levels.
More Gaza airstrikes (Foreign Policy) Israel bombed Gaza late Thursday night, the second time it has struck the territory since agreeing a cease-fire with Hamas following an 11-day conflict in May. The strikes came in response to incendiary balloons launched from Gaza, itself a reaction to an Israeli far-right march through Jerusalem’s Old City deemed provocative by Palestinian groups. The Israeli military said it had struck “military compounds and a rocket launch site” and was ready for a “variety of scenarios including a resumption of hostilities.”
Policeman killed, more than 80 students abducted in attack on Nigerian school (Reuters) Gunmen killed a police officer and kidnapped at least 80 students and five teachers from a school in the Nigerian state of Kebbi, police, residents and a teacher said. The attack is the third mass kidnapping in three weeks in northwest Nigeria, which have authorities have attributed to armed bandits seeking ransom payments.

New Look Sabres: GM 42 - EDM - Thirsty Thursday
Tumblr media
3-2 OT Win
When I was an undergraduate in college there was this special night of the week called Thirsty Thursday. A lot of my classmates created their schedules, so they had no classes on Fridays creating a prolonged weekend for all the activities Animal House taught you college students do. Thirsty Thursday was the beginning of that debauchery. Specifically the mid to late evening as the party people dressed to the nines emerged from their dorms, already tipsy, and climbed into Ubers, Lyfts and Cabs to go to the skankiest clubs and try to cross the border into Canada. Niagara Falls is pretty lit on the other side in case you weren’t aware. The Buffalo Sabres had themselves a bit of a Thirsty Thursday yesterday. This time however I’m excited for the consequences. I drew attention to GM Jason Botterill’s planned 5:30 radio appearance before the game against Edmonton so that when it was called off it seemed cowardly. Not that my lone tweet riled up an angry mob like the gif I used implied, but the timing seemed… well very bad. Dalton Smith was put on waivers the day before after an embarrassing affair on New Year’s Eve against Tampa and it all seemed for nothing: as if our GM had no clue what he was doing and now he was hiding from facing the fans. In reality perfect setups like that never happen. When WGR550 was told Botterill couldn’t make his regular radio hit the negativity around the team right now would naturally make you think of that dodging the press theory. Us wild and crazy optimists hoped against hope he was busy working on… dare I say… a trade!? The whispers came in as game time approached and Thirsty Thursday kicked off with a three-way (Normally something reserved for the end of the night if you know I mean). At about 6:40 pm the team announced a 2020 fourth round pick had been acquired from the Montreal Canadiens for Marco Scandella. The next part unfolded when the team announced at about 6:50 pm that the same 2020 fourth that was yielded from the Scandella trade was going to the Calgary Flames for RW Michael Frolik. No salary retained or conditions, it was essentially Marco Scandella for Michael Frolik.
Set aside all your newfound appreciations for Scandella, even his revitalization was to inflate his trade value. Not to be harsh but he won’t be missed; especially when Jeremy White’s Super-Secret Sabres Source (SSSS) then tells him they’re not done, and they want to bring Lawrence Pilut up from Rochester. This humble blogger says good and good. Scandella for Frolik constitutes a wash in terms of salary if not a little bit more taken on by Buffalo. However, if it gets Pilut back up to Buffalo and or Colin Miller out of buying tickets out of town then it’s a win in my book. In spite of how few trades we saw in the last five months of 2019 it does make a lot of sense that this is the prelude to bigger trades. One can only hope. I hope this analysis of it is outdated by the time I post it. Although we all thought the Jokiharju trade was the prelude to a bigger trade that never came so it could go both ways I suppose. All this figuring out distracted me from the actual game unfolding. I looked up and suddenly the Sabres were down 2-0 to the Oilers at home and certainly a blood bath was to ensue if another egg was laid in downtown Buffalo. Then as soon as I had that thought Thirsty Thursday ticked up again, but this time with some good clean action: Marcus Johansson disposed an Oiler along the wall in the offensive zone and went around behind the net. Johansson got it to Curtis Lazar who tapped it in past Mike Smith in net. It was now 2-1 and Jason Botterill had that much more cover to come out and face the press in the first intermission like we hadn’t gotten three hours earlier while trades were unfolding.
Jason Botterill spoke for about seven minutes saying a lot of things you might expect: Michael Frolik will bring even strength scoring, he’s won a Stanley Cup, has playoff experience and what not. Perhaps the most important things Botterill said is the special teams have to be better. He said that Frolik could help on the penalty kill and could be a bit of a rover on the wing. Botterill spoke to greater roster competition as something of a rationale for seeing as many players publicly want out. Assuming this isn’t the only move to be made its just refreshing to hear that the GM does understand what’s going on. The Dalton Smith Fiasco will probably be pushed under the rug 1984 style and that’s probably the only way to handle it at this point but pushing forward the point that there is in fact a plan here will allow some optimism, however scant, back into the fanbase. Once again, assuming there are more moves coming this move helps. The move itself is more or less whatever. If you get what Frolik was in years past then maybe he’s not just another piece to be traded at the deadline. Getting Frolik was one of those rumors from months ago and evidently the conditions on this Thirty Thursday were just right to make it happen. Conditions were not just right in the second period and apart from a slash on Jack Eichel and the Sabres taking over the lead in shots on goal, nothing really happened. Then it creeps into your head, like I hear it does for the party people at some point in the early morning hours on Thirsty Thursday, that all this momentary excitement could just melt away with nothing truly rewarding coming from it unless… unless you kiss that hot little number down the bar. It was unlikely another trade would happen as the clock ticked past 9pm last night but the clap-back Sabres awoke again. As an early offensive push unfolded in the third period for the home team they began cycling the puck around in the Oilers zone. Zach Bogosian took a shot that Sam Reinhart redirected in for the 2-2 equalizer and… well what do you know: Reinhart’s 100th NHL goal. For a moment try not to think about the impending second coming of the Reinhart contract drama and just savor what Samson does and who Samson is. But just like most things with this team, darkness follows close behind and Victor Olofsson was escorted out of the game after a weird fall all on his own just after he got the secondary assist on the equalizer. No new word on that today either mind you, just Scott Wilson getting called up because you can’t let us get too high, right?
The third period went on and the Sabres threw everything and the kitchen sink Zemgus Girgensons at Mike Smith. Nothing went through and we found ourselves in overtime. To Ralph Krueger’s credit most of the Sabres overtime periods have been tight possession affairs like they should be, even when they’re losing efforts. The same happened last night until an absolutely bonkers ten seconds about a minute into the extra frame. Jack Eichel went end to end, like from behind the Linus Ullmark net all the way to Mike Smith’s mouthguard on the other end. Along the way he drew a penalty when Oscar Klefbom hooked him on his final approach. That was good for a penalty shot but before the play was even over Jack almost scored on the rebound. This Thirsty Thursday was about to see it’s last act. That hot little number down the bar I mentioned earlier, that was Jack mother fucking Eichel, and we kissed his greatness to cap off the night. He took the puck, skated in and snapped it far side past Mike Smith, 3-2 Sabres in Overtime! And so the inebriated masses stumbled out of their rides in the wee hours of the morning; still concerned about their future but sated for just a time until the next party comes. Hopefully more parties to come then sadness they hope.
Like, Comment and Share this blog now because some of you will not like what I say next. The game on Saturday was moved to 1pm in the afternoon because the Buffalo Sabres organization shares an owner with the Buffalo Bills and is therefore allowed to be self-aware. You probably already knew that. To those of you whom pointed to that move as a sign of the Pegulas caring more about the Bills I’d just ask you to take a deep breath, maybe play your favorite video game and relax. There is good evidence that theory is true, but the Buffalo Bills also happen to be in the playoffs for only the second time in twenty years. Forgive the whole City around you if they want to focus on that team when they come on at 4:35 tomorrow! I know its 90s night… or afternoon now tomorrow, but please, let good things be good. Enjoy yourself a little bit. The Florida Panthers will be a challenge and then they’ll be off for four days, hopefully while Botterill is making more trades and Michael Frolik is getting his Visa figured out so he can actually come and play. Then its six games leading into the bye week of varying difficulty but mostly difficult. I would guess even if the Sabres miraculously won eight straight going into that break they still might only crack the top three in the Atlantic Division given the spaces between games. Nonetheless the tide of this dissent into another lost season we’ve been experiencing since before Christmas can be reversed this month. It will likely take more work on the part of the GM even though the deadline is still several weeks away. Yesterday’s Thirsty Thursday events were not enough for me to fully get back in the conductor’s chair of the hype train but whether it be for hoped for trades or just the first Buffalo Bills Playoff win since I was in diapers I can enthusiastically say right now: Let’s Go Buffalo!
Thanks for Reading.
P.S. According to NHL PR that OT Penalty shot goal by Jack Eichel made him the first player in Buffalo Sabres history to do such a thing. That is some kind of surprising stat.

My Very Own Story
Salam Alakum to all those out there!!! I am a 37 year old female who has been a convert for 12 years in the USA. I created this blog because of the homelessness I have experienced as a Muslim women in part due to me being a Muslim convert and because I have seen A LOT OF HOMELESS MUSLIM WOMEN in my last 12 years, I have in my last 12 years faced homelessness on and off just because of being a Muslim convert. I was actually homeless when I converted to Islam a single mother with 2 children bouncing around from job to job working as many as three jobs at once trying to survive and take care of my children. It was not easy. I turned Islam as a source of peace and serenity. However, it also contributed in my acute homelessness. Before converting to Islam I was hidden homeless stay with friends and family and bouncing around. Once I became Muslim that all changed I became acutely homeless for a period of time. I was a Muslim for one month and then brought to Chicago by some Muslim men who helped me out to get an apartment. I transferred jobs. I was not accustomed to honor and shame culture nor was I experienced with Muslim dominated cultures such as Arab culture or Pakistani culture. I was quit to be recruited for marriage and it was not a story with a happy ending. It was an imam looking to use me for papers for one of his relatives, his plan was to marry me religiously, then once he got me overseas he said marry him in the court, but I later learned he had his brother on my visa application not him. Well, once he told me I would be moving overseas and staying there and he wasn’t staying with me, he was moving back to the USA with another wife and I would stay in his country, I couldn’t go to the store, but his 6 year old son could, I let my friends know what he told me after the marriage nuptials “religious ones” not in the court, they whisked me off from him, later forcing him to religiously divorce me. His plan was a very disguised plan to marry me off in the court for a green card, maybe sell my citizenship, but nonetheless it was an attempt at human trafficking and not a real attempt. He didn’t even tell his community he had married and subsequently they fired him as the imam. I was left homeless again and without a job. The local masjed in BRIDGEVIEW, IL wouldn’t help me in my situation that was about 12 years ago now. However I was able to rent a room from another convert who had been a convert 20 years. She had horror stories about her time as a convert and had faced homelessness as well. Then another convert friend of mine moved to North Carolina where she asked me to visit her Palestinian husband was a gas station manager, he offered to give me a job, so I hit the road and went to NORTH CAROLINA! Yeahs was excited. I got there and they offered for me to stay with them and he would give me a job. Although after a week he said he wouldn’t only hire me if I let him keep my paycheck and he would manage all my money. I said no that is ridiculous, I can pay rent from my paycheck and manage my own money. He asked me for $600 for staying at their house and then he kicked me out because I refused. I was left homeless again. Living in my car in a small city in North Carolina. So I managed to get a job working in retail making a little money and was in school online so had some money from financial aid. I was able to rent a room on craigslist after about a week of sleeping rough in my car. I had no idea there was a mosque but didn’t think to ask because I had the mosque in Chicago refuse to help me. I worked there for a while that year and was able to rent a small house for $400 a month on an old plantation, it had some real issues including well water that was very bland and I think poisoned with lead or fracking residue. It was orange and stained like rust. I had no other options. I meet some Muslim ladies that helped me get some furniture. But I lost my job again after having to go to court for my kids. Of course as a single mother who converted to Islam I needed family help and that I did get, at the expense of them alienating me from my children after I gave them temporary custody. But Islam was my foundation regardless all these foul experiences with Muslims… I kept up the faith. So Then the Imam who I married for like a month actually was still married but separated. I became friends with his wife an she told me about MUSLIMA.COM to find a spouse. She said Islam is half your deen you should get married and your husband will take care of you. I had tons of offers on there. I was skinny, a convert, cute, and religious. Except I was naive to think they were all genuine. I met a Moroccan man who told me he was a green card holder and had it all worked out. I refused to sponsor anyone. BUUUUT didn’t ask to see his papers in my face. We did marry after talking for 3 months. We never kissed or touched until the moment we married. I was very religious at that time. I was praying all my prayers, wearing a hijab and abaya mostly very conservative cloths. I was very happy with the faith and even I didn’t have any Muslim friends. Everything seemed like a fairy tale, he was handsome, romantic, we seemed to have everything in common. But not until after a month of marriage did he break it to me, he couldn’t work, nor had any money, and also, didn’t have a sponsor for his papers. His visa was expired. I was like seriously??? I had no idea what to do. I offered him $500.oo of my student loan money to go back from where he came from. But I hurt his feelings, he swore up and down he was in love with me. So I prayed about it. Yes I did pray salata istikara before the second marriage, I didn’t know what it was the first time around. By the way that Imam was a PHD in sharia Islamic jurisprudence, fiq and usul fiq from a Uni Saudia Arabia. What a jerk!! Ok back to marriage two. I was like barley surviving and now I was going to be homeless again with this guy from morocco who apparently I adopted. Like I needed another person to $$$$ dish money out for when I couldn’t even take care of myself. Guess what I asked everyone to help sponsor him. Friends, family, strangers, yes I did ask tons of people to help. But he had some friends in Florida so we went to Florida. Well there I got a job right away a good job too that allowed me to sponsor him. So I did for the sake of ALLAH and gave him the benefit of the doubt he was a good guy. He was my brother in Islam after all. And no the imam that married me to him didn’t ask him anything related to him needing a sponsor or if he could afford a wife. Notta. Just bismillah you are now husband and wife. Well, I only asked him to memorize a surate with me. He never even would pray with me let alone read the Quran. His total attitude changed once in Florida after I started the sponsor paper work. There were lots of red flags but I kept praying ALLAH would fix things. I ended up losing my job due to discrimination AGAIN……. AGAIN!!! But we were still married. He did work but I did get income from unemployment too. In fact the whole time we were married he didn’t spend money on me. I was financially contributing. He also managed all the money and yes–that was a mistake cause he was taking all my money. The only thing I got from him in the marriage was a new phone, the phone company gave for free with a new contract. Around the time limit being over for the temporary green card I was very sick and in and out of the hospital. I almost died and was very ill. He had me sign papers he said immigration needed another application for another temporary green card for him. I was sick during the last few years of marriage. Well besides all the red flags, he decided he was just going to abandon me and leave me. He said I got my green card in the mail and I never loved you. He put his stuff into his car “I payed for” and was going to leave me in an apartment with everything in my name. Just like that. Not even one care about me not having money, not having a way to survive, not having a support system. Nothing. He had what he wanted. I called police cause he tried to leave. I reported that he just got his green card. He stayed for another week. But he became very abusive. He put a knife to my throat and said that if I do not apply for divorce he was going to call the police and say I came after him with a knife and tried to stab him. I APPLIED FOR DIVORCE THE VERY NEXT DAY. Yes I did!!!!! And yes alhumdulilah I just said ALLAH knows best. So I ended up homeless again. Yes I did, and very sick and almost dying this time. I was staying with friends, and in my car. I tried to stay at the mosque but they said it was not a homeless shelter that I needed to leave or they would call police on me. I was very lucky alhumudlilah wasn’t for very long. But I was able to get a very bad paying job at Disney World and was able to rent a condo for my entire pay. I was really sick though and my medicine costed $80,000 a year if I didn’t have it to stay alive I would die. So I decided to head back to Chicagoland area. I had a friend I kept in touch with for the past 9 years while I was moving all around. She said come back to Chicago. So I did, got back to Chicago, only for her to try and force me to marry a man who needs papers, apparently that is a thing in Chicago. She also tried to some other very serious criminal stuff to me. But she was also doing this to other homeless women in the community. Yes I reported this as human trafficking. Either born Muslim or not, that is not right. So I ended up at the masjed once again at Bridgeview, IL and face to face with the IMAM who said not one word about how he was sorry, didn’t offer any support, no referral, no community referrals, nothing, just told me well there is a hotel down the street,  JUST GET LOST - that the masjed is not responsible for the homeless. So after this experience, of being rapped, a domestic violence victim, repeatedly homeless due to discrimination and lack of support from the Muslim community I stopped, I repeat STOPPED wearing the hijab. I have also started really hating mosques, imams and Muslims. WORSE is that born Muslim women also face homelessness, its not a convert only thing. And there is no support or love for us in need at all. We are hidden and shamed. I mean if we were a shinny new mosque they would pay for us. But no because we are not valued members of the community we don’t matter, nor does our needs or problems. But Muslims are very much the problem here, born men and women Muslims often shame those in need. My experience had made me question my faith in the end. I feel like there should be some awareness around the issue. So I created this blog for ladies to share there stories.

A New Surge in Virus Deaths
Want to get The Morning by email? Here’s the sign-up.
Good morning. The mayor of Seoul has been found dead. Joe Biden lays out his economic recovery plan. And virus deaths have been rising again.
The number of Americans dying from the coronavirus has started rising again.
More than 800 have died in each of the last three days — a three-day total that’s about 60 percent higher than during the same three days last week.
(The chart above doesn’t yet include yesterday’s number, which would add a third large gray bar on the right side.)
The spike reverses what had been the one positive virus trend in the U.S.: Deaths had been declining since mid-April, even as the number of confirmed new cases held fairly steady in the late spring and then surged over the past several weeks.
How? Older Americans have been especially cautious, which has led to declines in the average age of new patients; younger patients die from it less often. And doctors and nurses have become better at diagnosing the virus earlier and treating it effectively.
President Trump and his aides have repeatedly highlighted the decline in deaths and said it showed that the virus was in retreat. But many epidemiologists have disagreed, saying that the surge of new cases since mid-June was so large that it would eventually lead to more deaths. (In a typical fatal case, a patient dies three to five weeks after getting infected.)
It’s too soon to say for sure, but the last few days suggest that the experts’ prediction is starting to come true.
Deaths have begun to rise across many of the same Sun Belt states where the numbers of cases are increasing. California and Texas reported a daily high in deaths earlier this week. Florida and Tennessee did so yesterday.
“Several months ago, I warned of a potential tsunami if we did not take this more seriously,” Richard Cortez, an official in Hidalgo County, in southern Texas, said. “The tsunami is here.” Nationally, the number of new cases hit another record yesterday. (The Times is tracking the latest virus news here.)
Among the victims: Richard di Liberto, the son of an immigrant bricklayer and the chief of photography at the Frick Collection in New York. The Times has a running series on people who have died from the virus, “Those We’ve Lost.”
FOUR MORE BIG STORIES
1. Court backs subpoena on Trump’s finances
The Supreme Court ruled that prosecutors in New York will be able to inspect Trump’s financial records, with both justices named by Trump — Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh — joining the seven-member majority. In a separate decision, the court ruled that Congress cannot see the records, at least for now.
What are prosecutors looking for? Susanne Craig, who has reported on Trump’s taxes for years, says investigators are trying to figure out whether Trump violated campaign finance laws when paying hush money to two women, Karen McDougal and Stormy Daniels. “This could go on for months,” Susanne told us. It is “unlikely that we will see the president’s taxes as a result.”
Thursday’s other decision: The court also ruled that much of eastern Oklahoma falls within an Indian reservation, which weakens the state’s jurisdiction over Native Americans in criminal matters. Gorsuch, a Westerner who has sided with tribes in previous cases, joined the four liberal justices in the 5-to-4 decision.
2. Deadly rains in Japan
Record-breaking rains this week in the south of Japan have killed 62 people in floods and landslides. The extreme weather is highlighting the vulnerability of nursing homes: Floodwaters killed 14 seniors in one nursing home.
The disaster represents a “collision of two powerful forces shaping the country’s present and future: demographic change and global warming,” The Times’s correspondents in Tokyo write. Torrential rains in Japan have intensified in recent years because of climate change, and the country has the world’s highest proportion of elderly people.
3. Seoul mayor is found dead
The mayor of Seoul, Park Won-soon, has been found dead. He had disappeared a day after a secretary in his office told the police that he had sexually harassed her since 2017. The story has been shocking to Koreans because he had been a rare champion of women’s rights among the country’s politicians.
4. Biden rolls out economic plan
For decades, advocates of freer trade have been saying that the middle class would benefit from an open global economy. But as the U.S. has liberalized trade and welcomed China into the international marketplace, the incomes and wealth of most Americans have grown painfully slowly. (This chart offers a glimpse.)
We’re now experiencing the political backlash, as Joe Biden’s first detailed economic proposal makes clear. In a speech at a Pennsylvania factory, Biden moved away from the Democratic Party’s recent emphasis on open trade and called for the federal government to spend $700 billion on American-made goods in technology, clean energy and other sectors. He called it an investment “not seen since the Great Depression and World War II.”
The political angle: “They are essentially trying to steal the Trump program of 2016 and steal that playbook,” Steve Bannon, the former Trump adviser, lamented, as The Washington Post reported. “For some reason, the White House and the campaign have been caught flat-footed.” And The Times reports on Trump’s struggle to define Biden politically.
The Biden economy: In a column for this weekend’s Sunday Review, I imagine what a post-coronavirus economy will look like — under both a Trump second term and a Biden presidency.
Here’s what else is happening
An explosion rocked western Tehran early today, state media reported, the third major recent nighttime explosion in Iran. The location this time wasn’t clear; the first two occurred at key military and nuclear bases.
About one million international students are in limbo after a recent directive by the Trump administration that would strip students of their visas if their classes moved online-only. Here’s what they have to say about it.
Lives Lived: She nurtured a generation of fashion designers as the publicity director of Saks Fifth Avenue, and she was the best friend of the actress Claudette Colbert. But she never lost her Southern accent or manners. Helen O’Hagan has died at 89.
IDEAS OF THE DAY: V.P. edition
In previous newsletters, we’ve written about Kamala Harris, Tammy Duckworth and Elizabeth Warren as vice-presidential possibilities for Biden. Today, I want to tell you about a few other candidates — and who’s making the case for them:
Molly Jong-Fast, writing in Vogue, advocates for Val Demings, a Florida congresswoman and former Orlando police chief: “Demings may be one of those once-in-a-lifetime politicians, a gifted orator, a woman who is completely self-made, a racial pioneer.”
Two different Georges — Will, of The Washington Post, and Skelton, of The Los Angeles Times — have made the case for Karen Bass, a Los Angeles congresswoman. In 1990, Will points out, Bass started a community group “to devise nonpolice measures for addressing crime.” Skelton writes: “Everyone likes her. She’s comfortable to be around and is able to deal with Republicans.”
Steve Chapman, a columnist at The Chicago Tribune, argues for Susan Rice, who was national security adviser and U.N. ambassador in the Obama administration. “She’s not only better equipped in foreign and defense affairs than the other vice presidential prospects,” he writes, “she’s better equipped than any president since Richard Nixon.”
More on the veepstakes: Duckworth has written an Op-Ed for The Times, responding to the attacks on her by Tucker Carlson, the Fox News host. She calls them an effort to distract the country from Trump’s performance as president.
PLAY, WATCH, EAT, GUMBO
Bringing gumbo to rural Minnesota
Krewe is a restaurant in the small Central Minnesota city of St. Joseph. It’s the brainchild of Mateo Mackbee and Erin Lucas, a couple who moved from Minneapolis two years ago to overcome career obstacles in bigger cities and to spread awareness of racial inequities.
St. Joseph is more than 90 percent white, and locals say the restaurant is the city’s first Black-owned business. Read the story of how the two chefs are using their food to promote diversity.
(And while it’s a departure from the traditional New Orleans gumbo served at Krewe, this recipe for black-eyed pea and pork gumbo is also delicious.)
Watch something … kid-friendly
Our weekly suggestion from Gilbert Cruz, The Times’s Culture editor:
Since I am home with my child all day every day for the foreseeable future, I need a few things that the whole family can watch together and enjoy without fear of bad language or violence or anything approaching “serious.”
The Netflix series “Nailed It!” is one of those shows. A reality competition series in which amateur bakers make and decorate devilishly intricate desserts, “Nailed It!” is named after the exclamation said bakers have to make when they unveil their inevitably cursed looking creations.
It’s that moment that elicits the most laughter from my family. These cakes often seem like they are genuinely in pain, and the faces made by the comedian Nicole Byer (who co-hosts alongside the pastry chef Jacques Torres) are eminently GIF-able. It’s a cooking show you can binge without ever feeling hungry afterward.
Carl Reiner, by Steve Martin
The actor Steve Martin has written a tribute to his late friend Carl Reiner, the comedy director whom he met while making “The Jerk” in 1979. The pair would go on to have near daily lunches for a period of five or six years.
Among Reiner’s life-lessons? “He taught me about modesty,” writes Martin. “I called him late one evening to discuss the next day’s shooting. I asked, ‘Am I interrupting you?’ He said, ‘No, I’m just lying here going through a litany of my failures.’”
Diversions
In this week’s Modern Love, a professor discusses the lessons she’s learned from her son and his passion for bags of all kinds.

Must-Reads Of The Week
The Friday Breeze
Want to read the best and most provocative stories from the week? Welcome to the Friday Breeze, where we compile them all — so you’re set with your weekend reading.
While we transition from one talented newsletter editor to the next, regular readers will be subjected to yet another guest writer, me, Rachel Bluth, a KHN reporter in Sacramento, California. Don’t worry though, we’re maintaining a sense of continuity. The writer is different, but the news is the same: bad. Here are the stories you might have missed this week if you were binge-watching Netflix to escape reality.
Surge, Baby Surge
Does it feel like spring? Looking only at the coronavirus infection rates, one might think it was still April. States keep insisting on reopening, and the virus has reached its highest U.S. case count in two months.
Texas, Florida, Arizona and California have all seen record-breaking spikes in new cases this week. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott “paused” reopening Thursday, and then went further on Friday by closing bars and reducing restaurant occupancy. Which sounds significant until you realize people can still gather in groups of 100.
As far as contact tracers can tell, most of these new cases aren’t coming from protests against police brutality, according to NPR. Instead, cases are mostly coming from family parties in private homes. States are finding that their coronavirus patients skew younger and younger.
“In June, we’re seeing that now 2 out of 3 people that have contracted this disease are under 29,” Erika Lautenbach, director of the Whatcom County Health Department in Washington state, told NPR. Now more than ever, it’s time to tell your cousin to put down the White Claw and pick up a mask.

More states now require mask-wearing in public: California and Washington are the latest to join the ranks.
The good news is that while businesses open around the country, masks seem to be saving lives. Two sick hairstylists in Springfield, Missouri, prevented further infections by wearing masks, according to reporting from The Washington Post.
The bad news is that people don’t like being told what to do — although maybe that isn’t news. A sheriff in Washington told people in his jurisdiction to flout mask rules, saying, “Don’t be a sheep.” For the record, there have been no studies yet about COVID-19 risk in livestock, so it might behoove us to all to be a little more like sheep, anyway. (Did you catch the pun there?)
Ditching the Dirt
Next, let’s talk about your bits. Groin, underarms, feet … the dirty bits. You should be washing them! Your hands, too. But that might be enough, according to scientists quoted in The Atlantic this month. Over-washing the rest of your body by showering too much could lead to eczema flare-ups and change our bodies’ natural defenses to germs and bacteria. More showering isn’t necessarily better for us, so it could be time to reevaluate how often you shower. And while we’re here, please wash your hands.
I know, I know. It’s hard to remember to cover your snout and wash your paws. If we can count on anything in these turbulent times, it is that capitalism always finds a way. This week, Apple announced a new feature to help enforce hand-washing guidelines. A countdown timer reminds people to wash thoroughly. According to NBC, it’s a play to sell more tech to hospitals and clinics. It’s unclear at the time of publication how facilities that cannot afford personal protective equipment will pay for Apple Watches. Perhaps most crucially, the update will let users add a CDC-recommended face covering to their personalized emojis. Surely, with all these technological advancements, a coronavirus cure cannot be far off.
Testing and Testimony
Speaking of cures and treatments, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of NIH’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, gave the country a hesitant shot of hope this week when he said he’s “cautiously optimistic” about a vaccine being ready by the end of this year or early 2021.
That’s about all the optimism he had to give during his Tuesday testimony before the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Fauci joined other top health officials in telling lawmakers that talk of a “second wave” of the coronavirus is premature. We are still very much in the first wave.
“The virus is not going to disappear,” Fauci said.
Dr. Brett Giroir, assistant secretary for health at HHS, said even the 500,000 daily tests being conducted nationwide are not enough, and having only 28,000 trained contact tracers is also insufficient.
Fauci also warned that flu season would be extra dangerous this year, because two upper-respiratory infections swirling around the population could spell disaster. Two lungs, two infections? At least we have symmetry to look forward to this winter.
Immigration, Now With Health Policy Implications
Things are still bad in rural America, where testing in remote areas has been spotty at best. Some officials are worried things will only get worse, now that the Trump administration is restricting H-1B visas, which bring certain skilled workers into the country. These visas have often been used to get foreign doctors into underserved rural communities who lack doctors. After pressure from business interests, it appears the administration will exempt health care workers.
Americans may also be on the receiving end of immigration restrictions soon. The European Union is considering putting travel restrictions on visitors from countries where the virus is not well controlled. With over 2.4 million cases, things are not looking good for Americans trying to summer on the French Riviera this year.
Well, let’s forget about other countries. This is America, spiritual birthplace of the road trip! At least we can go to other states, right? Not so fast. The governors of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut announced that visitors from especially hard-hit hot spots would have to cool their heels in a two-week quarantine if they want to come to the tri-state area. Rhode Island is considering similar measures. Visitors to Hawaii need a negative COVID test to skip quarantine. President Donald Trump says these rules, like many others, do not apply to him.
Hugged A Tree Lately?
Has the regular terror of the coronavirus distracted you from the threat of climate change? Fret not! This week, we have a two-for-one special on existential crises, brought to us by NPR. Scientists have found a correlation between deforestation and disease outbreaks like Ebola. Turns out that decimating animals’ natural environment pushes them closer to humans and increases the likelihood of zoonosis (a fun word for the terrifying prospect of a disease jumping from animals to humans). We don’t have enough information yet to know if the coronavirus was a direct result of deforestation, but maybe the middle of a pandemic is the wrong time to keep cutting down trees.
I’ve been told there is non-coronavirus news still happening, but I can’t confirm that. In lieu of real news, take a few of these feel-good stories to tide you over until the world improves: Mark Ruffalo got a kitten, this toad might not actually be extinct, and this cyclist rode his bike up and down a hill for over seven hours to beat a world record! See, everything is fine.
Enjoy your weekend! Writing this was hard and I never want to do it again. Stay safe, and wash your hands and bits.

What is a cheapest insurance in PA?
The questions simple. I'm looking for insurance in name only. It's going on an old beater I maintain that goes from a to b and back again working each day. No prior insurance on it (well their has been for 4 years or so now but under a different name without mine being on the policy soo you know.) If it crashes and burns thats where the thing will stay after I haul it out and get any salvagable parts. Seems the general is a bit cheap especially when you can pay a years worth of coverage in one payment. (I can) Any other dirt cheap sites?

Should I consider getting health insurance??
I am 22 and have no health insurance. I am a pretty healthy person and don't have to see the doctor often. I just think it's a waist of money to get health insurance unless it's for accidents or something like that because in order to get an affordable monthly premium then your deductible is going to be high. I may never reach the deductible, but still have to pay the premium. So should I just pay out of pocket when I do need to go to the doctor and just consider getting a high deductible plan or should I just go ahead and pay a higher monthly premium for a lower deductible. Why would any sane young adult pay thousands in health insurance premiums to subsidize old baby boomers?
They could pay nothing and get 95 dollars less on their tax refund next year. They could use that money now to pay down credit cards, etc. Under the new rules, individuals choosing not to carry insurance are subject to a penalty of $95 per person each year, or 1% of household income, whichever is greater, beginning in 2014. Over time, the penalty increases, so that by 2016 the penalty is $695 per person, or 2.5% of household income. Even the increase in the penalty is miniscule when compared to the premium prices. Auto insurance question - I hit a big pothole..?
Saturday night I hit a big pothole and a few miles later my tire was completely flat and actually had holes big enough to stick a few fingers through. I took it to a tire repair shop and the rim was bent as a result of the tire going flat. They've found a replacement rim, but it doesn't match the other 3 on the car.. I would like all matching rims, but a complete set with tires is about $800. Would something like this be covered by auto insurance? The cost of the mismatched replacement rim and 2 new tires is $350, my comprehensive deductible is $500, but I would pay the $500 if insurance covered 4 MATCHING rims.. So basically I'm wondering: 1) Is this something auto insurance would cover? 2) Would they just cover any replacement rim, even if it didn't match the other 3 or 3) Would they pay for a whole new set of rims? If anyone worked for an insurance company and might know the answer that would be great..""

Settled in Jacksonville Florida
Hello family and friends!!! We have settled here in Jacksonville Florida and Sheldon has started his internship at Grace Covenant Church. This means it is time for an update! Jamaica was such a sweet time reconnecting with family and friends. It seems there is never enough time to have a deep connection with everyone but it was really a blessing to even see each person's face and to give a hug. This trip away from home will be the longest one yet if all goes according to plan and if the Lord wills. We wont see Jamaica until August 2018.
We left with a bang as Sheldon was invited to share at the Kingston Open Bible church on Washington Blvd and he was asked to preach for two services on the day that we were flying out. Sheldon is one who loves these kind of adventures and so even if it meant possibly running late and jumping off the stage before the service ended, he would not turn this opportunity down. So that's what we did, and thank God there was no accidents on the road because we arrived at the airport about 40 minutes before they closed the counter with only a few persons in the line.
After spending a few days in Tampa with Sheldon's family, we drove a rental car to Jacksonville with all we owned (7 suitcases). We were welcomed by our loving host family Pastor Aaron Law and his wife Crystal with their 3 sons and daughter. Immediately Isaiah ran to play with them and he hasn't stop playing since, every time he sees them it is as if he is seeing old friends and they have become the highlight of each day that he gets to see them. Pastor Aaron who is amazingly gifted in administration planned ahead for all of the furniture donations to be picked up and in a moving truck waiting for our arrival. They also organized for us to have dinner with our new home group (like a cell group) and then another home group arrived solely to help with the move. What a blessing! I (Sara) only went along so that I could give guidance, I didn't even have to lift a thing because of all the help we got from so many individuals eager to serve us.
After receiving all the furniture we possibly needed (even having to turn away some), gift baskets with various household items to settle in, gift cards to cover our first grocery trip, dinner each day for 5 days from the members of the church (sweetly organized by Crystal) and a constant flow of toys each week for Isaiah and Elijah, all we can do is give God thanks for His abundant provisions and sit in awe of how He used the body of Christ to bless us once again.
We were also able to purchase a car soon after arriving and Pastor Joe went far beyond all our expectations in following us to purchase it, license it and he even cleaned it from top to bottom! Thank you Pastor Joe! What an example of a servant's heart!
On our first Sunday we were warmly welcomed with what seemed like 1000 hugs and smiles from the members along with a luncheon after the service. Sheldon was able to attend their annual Pastors planning retreat and the wives were invited to dinner during this time. That was fun getting to know each other more. Sheldon didn't play any golf but he says it was still entertaining to watch them (especially Aaron lol). The following Sunday Sheldon led the call to worship and the goal is for him to gain experience leading a different area of the service each week or preaching the sermon.
God has been good to us and we are so happy to have each of you in our corner, praying for us and following us on this faith journey!
Please be in prayer for our church planting team as the Taylors are at a stand still because Israel’s visa was denied twice and the Bains leave for their internship in Pennsylvania on Thursday.
Please continue to pray for my extended family as my cousin Danelle goes through the hardest time of her life and it was difficult to leave my family in a crisis. To find out more please click here https://www.youcaring.com/danellepinnock-898698

Interview: Brand USA CEO Counts on Congress to Reverse Trump’s Plan to Kill It
Christopher Thompson, CEO of Brand USA, at a World Travel & Tourism Council event in 2016. WTTC / Flickr.com
Skift Take: Brand USA has reported positive returns on investment and built the U.S.’ national tourism marketing operations from the ground up over the past six years. But now one of its most important tasks is ensuring the President -- and his Twitter handle -- don’t derail its momentum.
— Dan Peltier
Just as Brand USA officials were getting familiar with the Trump administration and its new Commerce secretary, Wilbur Ross, the hammer dropped without notice.
Six years into its existence, Brand USA — the national destination marketing arm of the United States — became latest travel-related target in the White House’s line of fire after President Donald Trump’s proposed fiscal 2018 budget last month called for its elimination.
One immediate challenge: getting on the Trump administration’s good side.
Earlier this week, Skift sat down with Brand USA CEO Christopher Thompson at the U.S. Travel Association’s IPW Conference in Washington, D.C. to talk about the organization’s first six years of operations and the challenges and opportunities on the horizon.
Speaking at IPW on Monday, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross tried to convey the message that the Trump administration wants to support the U.S. travel industry despite conflicting and controversial rhetoric about travel and laptop bans, as well as building a border wall along the U.S.-Mexico border consuming much of the president’s first five months in office.
Brand USA is just getting to know Ross, Thompson said, adding that his message seems sincere.
“Don’t think that his (Ross’) remarks weren’t vetted through the White House,” Thompson said. “What I’ve also been told by people that have had some interaction with him is he doesn’t say things unless he believes in them. You think that he said all the things that you would want him to say, and that we really have been wanting someone in the administration to say, and he’s the appropriate person.”
Ross told more than 6,400 travel industry attendees that the Trump administration is prioritizing travel and tourism, and he offered a supportive message — although there is ample reason to be skeptical given the White House’s actions to date.
While Ross spoke, the specter of Brand USA’s proposed elimination hung over the audience. The smart money says that Congress is unlikely to eliminate Brand USA despite Trump’s proposal, but how it will all shake out is unclear.
What is clear is that the White House and travel industry aren’t yet on the same page.
Brand USA representatives earlier told Skift that it’s proposed elimination came as a surprise; the White House hadn’t given the organization notice before the President’s budget was publicized.
Adding to the angst, President Trump tweeted six times between June 3 and Ross’ speech on Monday advocating for the travel ban and taking a hard-line and vague approach on international arrivals to the U.S.
As head of the Department of Commerce, Ross is the White House’s de facto travel and tourism leader. “He is responsible for travel and tourism, so the fact that he got up in front of our stakeholders and said what he said, I think it reflects what we’ve always thought, which is that the administration gets tourism,” said Thompson.
Thompson was previously CEO of Visit Florida and came on as Brand USA’s CEO in November 2012, more than a year after the organization began operations in May 2011. Like Brand USA, Visit Florida this year has had its funding challenges, too.
One difference between the Obama administration and Trump, Thompson said, is that the current president is addressing things early on that could potentially have a direct impact on travel, Thompson said.
Despite travel ban headlines over the past five months, most travel policies for international travelers remain unchanged, Thompson said.
“It’s mostly a perception problem than it is the reality, because we have two legal responsibilities, promote the entirety of the country and then communicate accurate and timely visa and entry policy,” he said.
Brand USA needs to play a political game in Washington and Thompson may be downplaying some of the changes in travel and visa policies, including much tougher vetting and the use of social media to inform application decisions, for example.
“Nothing has changed about how anybody gets a visa in the world who wants to come to the United States, and there’s only been one change, one policy change as it relates to entry and that’s the electronics policy with eight countries and ten gateways in those eight countries,” Thompson said.
Brand USA’s funding fate largely lies with Congress. The organization has had bipartisan support from its beginnings when passage of the Travel Promotion Act in 2009 created it. In December 2014, Congress reauthorized Brand USA.
Brand USA is a non-profit organization and its funding comes from a mix of donations from more than 700 partner organizations, and matching funds generated by the fees international travelers pay to the Electronic System for Travel Authorization. So Brand USA’s funding doesn’t come out of taxpayer coffers.
WORKING WITH THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION
Brand USA can’t lobby Congress on its own behalf, per the Travel Promotion Act, but Thompson said he still meets with politicians to explain the value of travel marketing.
Working with politicians is one of the best parts of the job, Thompson said. “However long they’ll give me, I give them as much as I can give them, and they pretty much say this [funding Brand USA anew] seems to be a no brainer,” he said.
“With members of Congress, I haven’t had one single meeting where I haven’t been invited to go provide information,” said Thompson. “I’ve never walked out of there and everybody’s not going ‘wow, we haven’t had this before?'”
Most members of Congress want to create economic opportunity in their districts and understand travel is a vehicle for that, said Thompson. “When they can support something like Brand USA, that literally brings benefit to every corner of the country in rural and urban areas, in up to five territories and in the District of Columbia,” he said.
Being America’s National Tourism Board
U.S. national tourism marketing efforts have faced challenges long before Trump took the oath of office earlier this year.
When Brand USA was created, the commerce department also created the National Travel and Tourism Office and appointed Kelly Craighead as its first head. Thompson said the Trump administration hasn’t yet appointed someone new to head the office.
That position, however, isn’t a cabinet level one. Unlike many other countries, the U.S. lacks a dedicated travel and tourism cabinet position as that’s only one part of Ross’ responsibilities.
“That position is responsible for activating the national travel and tourism strategy across nine federal agencies,” said Thompson. “That’s the closest thing we’re going to get. It is appointed, but it’s not the level of a cabinet position. Everybody out there would suggest to you that we need that level, but Kelly being the first, and the role that she defined was tremendously beneficial.”
Brand USA’s role is even more important as a result, said Thompson. “We’re always asking ourselves how we can figure out how do we add value?” he said. “That’s one of the pillars of our statement or purpose, the fourth one which I kind of brought with me from Florida, was how do we add value to what’s been there for decades?”
“We’re the new guys on the block and shame on us if we think we’re coming in to save the day because that’s not the case…That is also something that drives us significantly right now,” he said.
Moving Past Startup Mode
Brand USA is “in the very early stages of being a more mature organization,” according to Thompson, and the president’s proposal to take away its funding will test the organization’s mettle.
Thompson said there were 18 employees when he started in 2012 and the most recent headcount is 76 staff.
Brand USA has mostly enjoyed bipartisan support in Congress but has also taken some hits from budget hawks in the legislative body. Thompson is looking ahead to the organization’s next five years of operations despite the Trump proposal.
He said Brand USA’s partners are still as enthusiastic about its work as they were on day one. “Who has the environment and the landscape like that to operate in?” said Thompson.
“In the office we always talk about what keeps you up at night,” he said. “Other than just the craziness in the world…I worry about us getting complacent, I worry about us not pushing ourselves, I worry about us not being hungry and realizing first and foremost the unbelievable privilege we have to be doing what we’re doing.”
Brand USA’s National Parks movie has been one of its biggest successes, said Thompson. “This movie is in 100 theaters and science centers around the world. It’s going to have been seen by up to five million people and we’ve won nearly every award you can win for this kind of film,” he said.
Largely driven to counter the White House’s controversial and xenophobic messaging, Brand USA recently launched its “One Big Welcome” campaign (see video below), which features locals in destinations across the U.S. showcasing why they think their hometowns are special places to visit.
Launching these kind of campaigns, of course, requires a big budget and Thompson said Brand USA’s current $165 million budget “doesn’t go very far” with its work in 40 markets.
Still, that amount is within the world’s top five-highest national tourism market budgets, he said. “People even think we went from zero to $165 million and they think that’s huge,” said Thompson. “But you definitely need to make sure that you’re getting the most out of every dollar you’re trying to deploy.”
“One Big Welcome” might seem reassuring and convincing to many international travelers. But foreign airlines and analysts have said that international travelers have expressed dismay and concerns about the arrivals process in the U.S.
Despite Brand USA’s efforts, perhaps the most potent U.S. tourism marketing force in the weeks and months ahead will be the man in the Oval Office and his Twitter account.

Interview: Brand USA CEO Counts on Congress to Reverse Trump’s Plan to Kill It

Brand USA can’t lobby Congress on its own behalf, per the Travel Promotion Act, but Thompson said he still meets with politicians to explain the value of travel marketing.
