Since the show has already shaken the books timeline and events up so much I'd love if they could walk Armand back from the multi million dollar tech bro he's sort of starting as, no more private jets, no more private islands please

I know he becomes a millionaire in queen of the damned to buy himself and Daniel luxury things/experiences/the island, but I feel like we are already starting the story here when we get introduced to him in the show, except it's a sort of mock version of the life he has with Daniel in Queen of the Damned.

The show presents an alternate history from the book that has Louis and Armand stay together after Paris, Armand and Daniels first meeting be at Daniel and Louis interview in 1973, Armand erases Daniels memories of him, Armand doesn't turn Daniel in the 80s, and Daniel ages 50 more years.

Instead of being in a relationship with Daniel, Armand has remained in his relationship with Louis in a very twisted parallel.

Instead of building a house on an island filled with cherished memories with Daniel, he built a concrete box in Dubai filled with loaded memorabilia to match his life with louis. They're surrounded by wealth and luxury, but it comes across cold and hollow.

Assume without Devi's Minion plotline from the 70s-80s happening (as far as we know), Armand would have had to adapt to the modern world, without Daniel, alongside Louis instead.

His hobbies he loved sharing with Daniel (from the book) are either absent altogether in season 1-2 or get reflected in a empty way with louis in Dubai. His interest in art, fashion, Interior decorating, technology are all very muted from the eccentric, eclectic, hyperfixations we know Armand from the books to have had.

SO in the next seasons I hope we see Armand post divorce, depression era 2, hoping around from hoarder apartment to hoarder apartment, I want filthy kitchens, wild outfits, books and movies scattered everywhere, tanks on every surface, cables wires and computers, every game system ever??

except instead of his interest being a source of happiness for him like in the book, they should make it a little self destructive.

I want him to spiral into his interest, I want him so out of his mind with self bought distractions he can't keep up with hiring staff anymore, he's unstable, he's on his own, he's on the city bus like everyone else, and trying not to think about how he's tanked his life.

I think that'd be interesting. A way to take his character from the book and twist it a little to match his current situation in the show.

Like Daniel is already a vampire now, he doesn't need to be sugar baby spoiled/swept off his feet by Armand in order to like him, Armand needs to be humbled even further, and once the false persona Armand built with Louis fades, Daniel will like him all the more for it, and possibly be the one to help him out of that low place.

tldr cellbit and baghs were hunkered down underground after the nuke went off and the watcher tasked them with fucking with the purgatory 2 participants-- it gave them op gear and set them loose on everyone and they ran around trying to (and occasionally succeeding at) killing people

important roleplay moments:

they said they'd been relying on each other to cope with the loss of the eggs & their loved ones (they both believe all the eggs died in the earthquake/because of the nuke and got mad at bad for trying to tell them otherwise)

they're somewhat listless and, in OG bolas fashion, set in the idea that this is the only option, so they want to follow whatever actions the eye/watcher gives them, as it's kept them alive and gives them things to do and they desperately need direction.

baghera killed brunim for having phil's face but not actually being him (iconic)

cellbit had several fun fuga throwback moments with pac and jvnq, and he got into it with natalan who claimed he'd been married to roier before (somewhat true in chafa lore (they were married for about five seconds and natalan Did Not Reciprocate roier's feelings) but not accurate to his own actual interest in the relationship, clearly said to piss cellbit off, we'll see if it comes up with qroier and whether he considers chafa canon to his character or not)

at the end they were led to a different place with a sharestone that had an error, and found the camp where richas and pomme had been staying when they were on egg island. they read a bunch of their signs, checked out their little house, and talked about missing their kids and how they wish they could've saved them (again, in rp they both believe the eggs are dead, and when seeing evidence to the contrary seemed confused. i think this was partly them genuinely believing the kids are dead and also bc they dont want to use their meta-knowledge that the eggs ARE alive when they're not supposed to know that).

they decided to go to bed, but the watcher told them they had one last mission-- to kill all the sinners. and then it gave them a sharestone back to the bolas bunker. they decided to go to bed anyway and ignored the mission. the watcher may have wanted them to kill each other, unclear exactly what the deal was

not clear if they're going to be back later this week to fuck with participants again or not-- i got the vibe of not really, but we'll see. they might return but do something different, cellbit said something about wondering if their gear was too op or not, but i don't know if he meant they'll be back and he wants to make sure they talk to admins about nerfing them a bit or if he just was chatting about it a little bit

also cellbit went live on his alt and talked a bit of meta, and said they sent some ideas to the admins and then were told they'd work something up but wanted to surprise them on the specifics. he talked about it being more rp than lore, and that purgatory 2 doesnt have to be entirely canon if people don't want it to be.

like so this is before we really bond with him (aka we find him annoying. unless u got attached to him right away which good for you, i dont know when he wormed his way into my heart but he did at one point and i realized it at the end of i think book 5 aka ignihyde teaser) so grim wouldnt really listen to us (looks down on us)

also i dont know about you but burns HURT. ive burned myself a few times but they're not like the really bad ones (i dont know the difference between degrees and i feel like googling it will haunt me in my nightmares). i imagine grim cant shoot fire too far? maybe a little more shorter/mid range? what even is mid range idk (and the reason it lasted to hit the statue was because of ace's wind magic imo)

well either he can control the range or he can only shoot it out so far. so then. we'd be really close trying to catch him. maybe its in one of the twistunes where he's running away. he turns around and shoots fire at you. fucking OW (also its BLUE. i dont know how colored fire works, but assuming its blue because its even hotter than normal fire. um. ow.)

surprisingly fanfiction either turns to 'crowley is an asshole' (and also actually pays attention to yuu and blames them like oh) or 'parent crowley' which speaks for itself (and is very cute in its own right but i also dont like him regardless as i dislike all adults that put responsibilities on children to be fucking idk child soldiers or to fight shit or deal with shit. i mean crowley doesnt go that far but i still dont like him)

those fics though start from prologue and go in order (some include vignettes and events) so i assumed that it followed it close enough to be a recreation but [so and so] but i was wrong apparently

Daily Dragon #217 - Marshogon

Large amphibious dragons that serve as mini islands in large swamps and marshes. Many plants and animals live on the grass that grows on their back. They eat algea and micro-organisms living in the water, so they dont attack anything on their back.

Animals on its back actually help protect it from parasites!! Another redraw... Kind of. This is more like a MASSIVE overhaul of this 2016 (i think) swamp dragon design. I couldn't recreate the log helmet in a way I like so I turned it into some kinda triceratops horn.

Daily Dragon #218 - Vulture Wyvern

Exactly what it says on the tin, these birds are MASSIVE to the point they've reached dragon status. Though they could be incredibly deadly if they attacked, they mostly eat dead and decayed animals specifically to avoid combat

Watching Clementj64's Mortal Kombat Lore video! I love these videos and while I'm not done with this one yet (I did finish it between the original post and now, it was very good), I DID learn that Goro and Sheeva are part dragon??? Yeah that's good enough to draw them for this challenge I think!

I was gonna do Goro, and I know there's a full on Dragon King... but... Sheeva's redesign is so fucking hot... I just needed any excuse to draw it

Another dragon type AND another pseudo legendary! Salamence, despite being a pretty regular looking high-fantasy dragon with a great color scheme. Isn't a Pokemon I was really into until recently. It's growing on me a lot!

Daily Dragon #223 - Groundramon

Another dragon I knew I wanted to do from the! I only really became a full on Digimon fan last year after playing Cyber Sleuth, but Groundramon quickly became my favorite teammate and favorite Digimon I've seen so far :)

The only reason this one took me so long is actually the same reason Blue Eyes / Red Eyes did... They're kind of hard to draw! Digimon are incredibly detailed but that's what makes them so cool and edgy

i'm SO bad at making money in stardew valley but i'm SO tempted to get two purple turtles and name them donatello and viola-chan [cries]

i did name mine donatello, and i can confirm that it's SO satisfying. so you have two choices.

one is to take your time, the money will come eventually, etc etc, honk shoo honk shoo

two is to abandon all morals, embrace T H E M A C H I N E, and get your fuckin turtles. i'll give you a few tips based on which skills you like the best so you can gear towards those! i'll rank them in order of most to least efficient in terms of gameplay hours, in my experience. under a cut because i have almost 2k hours in this game And i read the wiki for fun. of course you can do, like, the non coconuts version of these suggestions if you're looking for something more low-key hahaha

farming: this is the biggest money maker hands down. if you have the island unlocked, fill that thing with as much starfruit as you can afford. go to the desert and plant a bunch of oak trees, then tap them so you can get a bunch of oak resin. in the beginning, you can sell as many starfruits as you need (unprocessed) in order to buy up more seeds; otherwise, keep them for processing into wine. start filling up your island farm that isn't farmland with the kegs. fill them up as you make them. sell the wine. you can make hundreds of thousands in a week doing this once you start scaling up and fill the entire farm. you can also do pineapples or ancient seeds which over time will be more profitable since you don't have to buy the seeds, but i find these take a lot longer to get started, so i personally prefer the starfruit. you can also just sell the unprocessed starfruit as it is, and it'll make you coconuts amounts of cash, but it's less efficient than turning it into wine. also, dont worry about aging it. that takes way too long for it to be your sole money maker.

sleeping: on the left side of your island farm, plant a fairy rose. then surround it as much as you can with bee hives. if you do this a couple times, you can get some serious cash by doing literally nothing but passing time.

mining: skull caverns runs where you farm iridium are pretty bog standard in speed runs. first thing to know is that the desert trader will swap jade for staircases on sunday. you'll get a crystalarium out of the community center bundle for the vault; put a jade in it as soon as you can. scale this up as quickly as you can, then get as many staircases as you can. next, you'll want to block pam's door with a chair so she gets to the bus a little more quickly. then have some coffee (or triple shot espresso if you can) on hand, and some luck food (think spicy eel, that sort of thing.) get as many bombs as you can make (or explosive ammo if you can afford it). staircase down as far as you can, then start blowing shit up. don't worry about the enemies. you're here for M O N E Y not glory. salads or gold-star cheese are good foods to keep on hand to keep your health up. magnetism is very important here, so you'll want to have either a magnet ring, a glowstone ring, or an iridium band equipped. come back, smelt all your iridium up, and sell it. you can also do this with radioactive ore when you get there, but it's a lot less reliable than this method. plus you'll get a bunch of other stuff in skull cavern to sell, too.

animals: pigs are the most efficient, though also the most labor-intensive animal. they'll find truffles, and with the farming boost of 40% to artisan goods, it's always profitable to turn them into oil. especially with the new blue grass, it's easy to get to where each pig is finding you several truffles a day. you can also do goats for their cheese and age it in the basement, which is a pretty decent money-maker. ostriches are quite good as well, once you unlock them. i usually have one barn filled with ostriches, and another filled with all the other animals. coop is pretty lackluster in my opinion, best filled with rabbits so you can get lots of feet for gifts.

fishing: so this can actually be a pretty good moneymaker now that 1.6 has buffed it quite a bit. the best way in my opinion is to make some lava eel bait, go to the top of the volcano, fish up lava eels all day, and smoke them. you can make a good chunk of cash this way. also crabpots are very underrated, especially if you have either an ocean of bait makers and the perk to get rid of trash (not my preferred method since i use the trash to get refined quartz), or the perk that makes it so they don't require bait and thus you just collect that good shit every morning. (sidebar, this is a really good way of getting fish for deluxe fertilizer if you're a crafting-type person.) fishponds are.... not great? tbh? so unless you're looking for something very specific (like caviar, the spicy eel drop from lava eels) i don't really bother with them much anymore.

combat: find the new parrot trinket. try to get at least level three if you can, though obvs. the higher the better. pop on some monster musk, go in the mines (best is the dangerous skull cavern mines since that has a 2x monster spawn rate, but if you aren't there yet, i recommend levels 55-70 of the regular mines since those have sprites which are Hella easy to kill, drop coal, and there are a metric shit ton of them), and farm away. this is easier if you use the hammer style (acrobat+artful+3x ruby enchants), as you can abuse the special attack and get massive aoe damage. with the parrot, he picks up a bit of money from time to time, more as his level goes up. you can make some Serious cash doing this. plus selling the drops, things you mine up, etc.

foraging: i..... tried for a long time to think of a good way to make money with foraging. i suppose technically the tree saps would be foraging? and they're.... okay? you could sell wood and hardwood but it's such a waste considering they're so important in crafting. if you're the kind of player who likes to spend all day wandering around the valley looking for forageables, more power to you, but pick one of the passive ways to make money and then have fun doing this. if you want two purple turtles, it's going to take you Years to do it through foraging.

I mean first of all the title is LITERALLY called Heroine like... come on. This song for me is very nalu core like whenever i hear this song the lyrics scream nalu from a Lucy POV, for me anyway. Mostly the lyrics about a hero, lucy herself has agreed that natsu is kinda like her hero in the RAVE x FT crossover little comic if you didn't know. I would said the sound kinda fits lucy its not too brooding but not too crazy and hyper and its a good middle ground that I think would suit her :)

i loveee this song and honestly a lot of dreamcatcher songs I imagine nalu scenarios in my head to them because theyre songs are sooo catchy and fast paced I can imagine the craziest things,, anyway the reason I chose this song was mostly the lyrics i mean things like

i cant explain it but this is definitely them theyre soulmates and the "maybe you dont but i love you" definitely suits lucy i specifically thought of the line in 100yq of her thinking natsu doesnt like her in that way but you know she loves him anyway and they'll be together forever in his words etc etc

again i cant really explain how this is them but if i had to i would say the way theyre really close and best friends and yet have fallen in love with eachother but are hurting eachother going in circles with their relationship and not confronting their fears about losing each other either quite literally or their relationship and it's gonna build up until it explodes lol

okay last part these lyrics really remind me of the ending in dragon cry when lucy tells natsu that even with the different conflicting parts of him she knows him and she knows that even with all of that hes still just natsu and its what he needed to hear and she just knew that so :)

Okay after the essay on the last one I wanted to do a song that has a more simple explanation,, so Billlie have amazing songs theyre one of my favourite kpop groups and if you haven't listened to their songs they bang so hard please listen <3 anyways the lyrics are all based around of course an enchanted night with lines like "The moon is freaky, the stars are dreamy" etc etc which of course suits lucy due to the stars and such but also the moon part made me think of the galuna island arc and of course the whole eclipse gate and such so yeah! (also the song sounds soft and pretty like lucy.. (: )

another song based off of lyrics being very nalu i mean... playing with fire as a title is very nalu,, but also the lyrics are about going too far in love and getting hurt getting burnt etc etc which like you know that one scene in 100yq and like the whole slow burn thing they have,, its very fitting to me imo and also the sound suits lucy its again middle ground powerful but not too overwhelming to the point where its too powerful that it wouldnt suit lucy (not saying she isnt powerful she has her moments which is why i think a middle ground is good)

this might be a hit or miss for some people,, but hear me outtttt... I wanted to add a song thats very high confidence and powerful but a lot of songs in mind were too dark and serious but and I feel like this fits the most,, its feminine and fun with confidence and cunt slayage and its silly and fun and its so lucy to me its so so so lucy too me. Ok so i spend way too long looking at that image, so here is my analysis. (Sorry if it has already been done)

The books in the shop give you a good preview of what to expect! There is:

Pride and prejudice (in the pile of books), a story about two characters who unleran their biases in order to get together.

Treasure island (also in the pile of books), who tells the reader that looking for gold is futile as gaining wisdom and righteousness is more fulfilling.

A tale of two cities (the book aziraphael reads), a book that has themes like the possibility of renewal, the necessary of sacrifices, the violent nature of revolutions, social inequity and justice.

Catch 22 (on the bookshelves, beneath "closer"), where the protagonist can't escape his situation due to all the regulations in place. Its also used to say that if you want to fight the rule, you first have to accept it.

Other details that may be of note:

Two lizards on the table, one blue/green, the other one orange.

The old camera that reporter aziraphale had on the leaked pics.

A matchbox on the table (i might be looking too much into it, but it looks to me as if there is a saint's picture on it and a verse where you strike the match).

At least 3 statuettes, on of a roman soldier, two of women (including one who's seemingly sheltering herself from a danger above. Shes on the windowsill where golden/heavenly light falls from above..).

The clock face, that looks like it's frowning. Plus the clock seems broken, there's only the big needle and its on 6.

Aziraphale and Crowley seem to influence each other, they take on opposite colours where they touch. Aziraphale is slightly darker as if there was a shadow on his arm, while Crowley's back is in the light (i dont count the light on his face, as realistically it is a promotional poster and you need to be able to see the actor's face. Plus on his back it looks more like "heavenly/ethereal light").

So it's been speculated before that season 2 would be about them fighting hell and heaven to be able to be together, and it looks like it's what we are going to get. There might be a rebellion that has other angels and demons fighting their sides, inspired by the freedom that aziraphale and crowley seemingly got. Im guessing that they'll also have to reflect on their beliefs about the other one and about themselves as they were "enemies" for so long. They may have to re-enter their old sides and may have a really hard time escaping (they might not totally escape..). The statue might be protecting herself from heaven, but the lizards could be demons and the sad clock indicates 6, that has been linked to the number of the beast. I firmly believe that they will get together in the end.

(Disclaimer: I havent read any of those books, heres the sources for the informations on pride and prejudice, treasure island, a tale of two cities, catch 22. If anyone more knowledgeable could add any wisdom it would be great!)

Our Second is Kasory, He's The Research Mentor, Focused on Research and Pokemon Development in scientific and or Supernatural Occurrence! He's Quite approachable and most students adored him because of His Charismatic Energy and How Friendly he is... Although Dont be around him when Anthony is around because that Pacifist And friendly attitude of Kasory will be flip upside down once he and Anthony See each other... The two gets quite violence...

Our third Is Antonio, He's Our Current Region Champion and He's a Mentor in the Academy too! He's a Battle Mentor, He doesn't speak much... And tends to write what he's saying instead of Speaking, he's quite an introvert so he tends to be distance from his student, If you want to know where Kheara is... he's the Right guy to ask... Of course I already Introduce you to me, I'm Lisa! I am the Hatcher Mentor, I focused on Pokemon Eggs and Their Progress, You need quite a passion to be able to Wait fpr an egg to hatch! But once it does it's definitely worth it.

Then we Have Tyson or well known as Tosya, He's The Medical Mentor, Head of the Pokecenter in the Academy and In the whole Region, He's Quite easy to talk too and very chsrming but Dont get too attached... He's a Wolf in sheep clothing.

There's Also Taylor, She's the Fashion Mentor, Is it different from a Coordinator Mentor? It is! Because Fashion Study in the Academy focus on MAKING a Fashion instead of Performing, They're more of a Model designers. She Gave out Wine aunt Energy and It seems like the student likes her lol

We Have... Masuyo, The Coordinator-Performer Mentor, Mostly exclusive for Women but in Lachian any genders can be a coordinator or performer! Masuyo is An Idol Icon in our Region... So dont be surprised if you see her walking down a Red Carpet With a bunch of paparazi.

There's Raice, He's The Cooking Mentor, He's quite sensitive about food and he always have high expectations for his student to Make sure the food they Made is actually edible and not... Crawling out of the pan

And Last but not Least Azrae, she's the Tamer Mentor, If you're looking for to be a Tamer... She's the right mentor for you, she's the youngest out of all of us yet she's the most dedicated to her job! But dont spook her she's quite timid.

Each Mentors hold Maximum 10 students and let the rest Be handles by the other regular Teachers, And Each New Students gets to choose the mentor they want... It's just depending on if the mentor accept them Or not if not we'll they'll be Handed down to the Normal Teachers.

Omg okay so you know how Forever asked for mod ideas to add on twitter? Well I can't stop thinking about the one I recommended bc it'd be such a fun server event.

The one I recommended was a double life mod. Which is basically like, two random PLAYERS (not eggs >:( !!!) are matched up and they are "soulmates". Soulmates share all dmg between the two of them which means if one of them dies, the other does as well.

I was thinking its an optional event obviously but theres some sort of prize for the last soulmate pair left standing. Maybe something like being able to ask the federation for ANYTHING (except obvious things like creative mode or leave the island) and its implied u can ask for egg lives too but idk if that'd ACTUALLY be a prize or just bait.

Essentially the participants are trying to make it to the end and be the last pair standing so they can get the prize which could include alliances, desperately trying to protect each other nd making it to the end bc they have the same wish OR betrayals bc they dont :D

I think it'd be a nice incentive for players to interact and be active since I think how active you are will have to be a factor or else a pair can just join the event and never login until everyone else dies lol.

I'm thinking, just like the actual double life series, each pair has like 2 or 3 lives until they're out of the event? I also think it'd create interesting dynamics.

Like how funny would it be if tazercraft participated but they werent paired up since its random, so their soulmates just have to accept that they have to work as a 4 person alliance? Would any soulmates rather go solo then stick around their soulmate? Would there be drama about soulmates going and doing dangerous things alone, risking if not actually accidentally costing them one of their lives?

Idek I just think it'd be fun. Idk who I'd hope Forever is paired w bc it'd be fun no matter what, but I do think he'd absolutely gear up his soulmate and give them everything he can so they can survive since if theyre BOTH downed, they will be completely reliant on the kindness of other players/participants to see if they'll be revived or lose a life which. Isn't ideal. I actually think he'd set up a statis room and want a code for if one of them is in danger and needs a tp yk

Ooh I actually like this idea! Actually I have been excited for Tazercraft's Murder Mystery because one of the roles is "Lovers", and if your partner die you die. So I really want to see the random matchups we could get.

In a way, it'd be like your government assigned partner all over again like it was with the eggs, but this time the French and the Brazilians can participate since they've always been just a big polycule. So it'd be nice for a short event where you can get some good but not game-breaking rewards.

I agree that Forever would become very protective of his partner and instantly set up an enderpearls stasis chamber like he does with his family, but I'd love to see how insufferable he'd get too if he got someone like Philza lol.

Anyways I really like this idea mainly because I'd love to see the unexpected duos that would come from it even if temporarily. I really hope the admins think of some type of event like this, but if not we can get something close to it with Tazercraft's Murder Mystery at least!

i hope i dont come off as weird towards you but i love to come to your blog and some other pens blogs to hear the voice of reason after each game lol. as someone who's a bit active on pens twitter it is not for the faint heart 💀(although there is a very small majority of fans there who are kinda relax) . i got into hockey back in december so this whole playoff drama/stress is very new to me and as much as it hurts to see sid and the others lose, i know that we cant underestimate them till the last game of the regular season as they did win 3 stanley cups in the past!! everyday i learn more about this team and the fact that geno and tanger might've not been with sid today boggles my fucking mind but also makes me happy that they stayed together and that they'll most likely retire together aswell <3 also correct me if im wrong but if the islanders and panthers both lose at least 1 game and we win 3/4 we could sneak in into wc2 right? if so i'm still pretty confident that we have a chance at the playoffs the pens just need to come together as one team and play good :)) thank you for listening (or reading??) to my thoughts i love your blog !!

i waited to answer this today because i wanted to check for potential clinching/elimination scenarios once all of last night's games were input. and here's what i'm seeing:

we do not currently control our own destiny for either wildcard spot. what that means is even if we won all of our remaining games, we'd depend on the other teams in contention for these spots to lose. it's much more precarious a situation to be in, obviously.

if we lose tomorrow our chances of missing increase to 60%. obviously that is very bad.

if the panthers lose to the senators tomorrow, we regain control of our destiny for WC2. i believe we have to win out, though.

if we win AND the panthers lose tomorrow, we only have a 19% chance of missing. if we lose AND the panthers win tomorrow, it's a 68% chance of missing.

so! that's where we stand. 🥴

We're on the way to the airport now. I'll be home in just over 12 hours and I have to say... I'm both super excited to be back with my pets, but also extremely sad. I dont want to leave. I've said it probably a dozen times in the last two weeks - if I could find a way to get my animals here, I would move back to Newfoundland in a heartbeat. But moving seven snakes, twenty ducks, two geese, two cats and two dogs across the country is a task of its own. I dont even want to think about the conversation I would have to have with my friends. But I miss it.

My heart lives on this island, and yet I've never lived in Newfoundland for longer than a month or two at a time. I was born in Grand Falls. My mum went to Newfoundland to have me, and we went back to Alberta when I was 5 weeks old. And then we would go back and forth every summer, go back for Christmas, pretty consistently until I started school.

My entire family is from Newfoundland. I'm related to literally half of Twillingate. But they don't all live there. When my parents moved to Alberta, a bunch of their friends and cousins came with them and shared a house for a while. I was raised in a very Newfoundland household, even if we were as landlocked as we could get. When I started school, my grandparents would come up for the summer or for Christmas instead of us going there. I was raised with the music, with mummering, with Jiggs dinner, with an aching desire to be near water that somehow has to be genetic.

Then I started school. And I had to push all that down. I had to force myself to change my voice so that my classmates could understand me, or at least stop bullying me about the way I spoke or my accent. Didnt help much, they just found other things. Like how all the music is weird and annoying, how mummering is creepy, how I should stop pretending to be smart because I'm just a stupid Newfie. I stopped telling people I was from Newfoundland because I got tired of people asking me to try and pronounce 'about' and other shit for the next five minutes of the conversation.

That's how Alberta was. You cant talk to anyone because they'll think you're weird. Everything has to be locked up or in your hands, because if you even forget it for a second, someone will take it. People will break locks and cut fences just to get something they want. Guard what you have because someone will try to steal it. Dont walk anywhere after dark because someone will hurt you. Dont walk anywhere alone at any time because someone will hurt you. Dont try to be different. Dont even paint your door a different color because people will think you're weird. Dont trust anyone. That's what Alberta was and still is.

Now Alberta has a very high population of Newfoundlanders. Fort McMurray might as well be called Nfld soil for how many people are here from home. But you still only meet them out and about every once in a while. And when you do, its a totally different experience than meeting a stranger.

As soon as you meet someone from Nfld and they realize you're from there too? Instantly like old friends. There's no awkward introduction. You just start talking like you've known each other all your life, and you'll have to double back at the end of the conversation to ask what their name was because you can be talking for 15 minutes and not even bother introducing yourselves.

Its not rude. Its just the way we are. The default is that everyone is a friend. Alberta is so different. The culture there, especially nowadays, is so cold and caustic. I don't want to go back to clients yelling at me, to snappy people on the street, to the city that has gotten the highest crime rate in Canada five times. I want to be here. I want to be in the place where not a single door is locked, not a car, not a house, because everyone trusts each other. I want to be where I can walk anywhere and know I am loved. I want to be here, where I could go up to any door, even if they had no idea who I was, and be welcomed. I could knock on any stranger's door and ask for a cup of sugar, and end up staying for supper.

I want to be home.

When I flew down two weeks ago, the flights were silent. No chatter. Nobody talking. Until I got on the plane to St. John's from Halifax. It buzzed. People talked the entire flight to complete and total strangers, without hesitation. You walk into a store down here and you can talk to anyone. I was at Walmart the other day looking for rug binding, and I wasn't sure what I needed, but I just stood there looking a bit lost and trying to muster up the courage to ask a staff worker. The next thing I know, this grandmother comes down the aisle with 4 rolls of yarn and new knitting needles, takes one look at me, and asks me what I needed. And then we spent 25 minutes talking about various crafts, what rug binding I would need for what craft, what she'd been working on, what I was working on, and I left that aisle with 3 rolls of the tape I needed and a wonderful feeling of comfort. I didnt even ask her name. She didn't ask mine.

That's the culture in Newfoundland. Everyone is a friend. And by God does my heart ache for it. Not to mention the ocean, the rocks, the sounds of the sea and the wind.

Newfoundland is a struggling little island. Its one of the poorest parts of Canada. The unemployment rate is sky high. The weather is terrible. Everything costs an arm and a leg. But the default here is just... kindness. Everyone is in the same boat, everyone is going through the same struggle, so if you can make the struggle a bit easier, you might as well try.

One day I will be back. One day I will come back, and I will stay. And I will be home.

Review: Two Car

After years of watching just sports anime with boys I've become increasingly bored with every new release. My main problem is that the tropes among animes are just recycled over and over again. Moreover I have developed an aversion to being able to identify male voice actors across different works. Watching animes have sometimes turned into a "guess the voice actor" game with myself and eventually I hated it.

Therefore, since 2021 I have started watching sports anime that feature girls.

Anyhow the first anime I'm reviewing is called Two Car [CONTAINS SPOILERS]

Setup

Highschool girls. I forgot what year they're in. They live on this island where racing is a Thing. Their school is a powerhouse for sidecar racing. And sidecar racing enthusiasts all over japan go there and hang out. Basically their whole island is a sidecar racetrack. Their culture revolves around it. Yuri Miyata and Megumi Meguro are the best highschool racers in their island, and also in japan.

The team is composed of these 2 athletes, 2 technicians and their coach. Before the series started, their coach left them to pursue his dreams of being a pro racer in the Isle of Man in England. He could leave the girls behind coz they were already skilled af and they had a local lady coach who could handle things. Now Yuri and Megumi may be partners but they are also rivals. They want to beat each other guts. Think momoshiro and kaido from prince of tennis. They work quite well together coz they're so competitive with each other.

Now make no mistake, Sidecar Racing is an extreme and dangerous sport. People legit die from this irl. The trust between pairs (a driver and passenger) is important because they need to balance each other AND the vehicle or else they'll steer off-course and crash (and then die).

From what I remember, this 12-episode anime focuses on the national competition in sidecar racing. Therefore the best pairs all over japan have come to the island to be the national champion. 5 other female sidecar pairs are introduced. For some reason, the drivers and the passengers are housed separately, but the pairs train and plan together.

The anime follows the histories and conflicts of each pair as they all practice to get used to the race track. This culminates to the final battle at the end of the series.

My Rating: 3/5 -the plot is pretty meh. I was honestly curious about how it will unfold though. The characters are weird and meta af, combine that with girl power and "female flavor" (for lack of better word), it's a different POV on things honestly.

Art and Animation

It's pretty decent ngl. I enjoyed watching the racing sequences and how the sidecar pairs moved while operating the vehicles. It is smooth and the colors are pretty.

Technicality

I'm not into vehicles but there were technical aspects discussed. Modifications and etc. are often shown and you can see how the characters manipulate the different parts of the vehicle (like clutch and accelerator handling, etc.) Techniques to improve speed and handle curves/bumps are also briefly explained among other stuff. I dont know how realistic or legal some of the stuff they're doing tho so..watch with a grain of salt. XD

Characters

I'd say the characters were interesting. The main characters aren't beginners and are smh treated as pros even in their own island. So you dont get that "dumb beginner idiot with freaky abilities vs loner genius" partnership that is so common and overused in shonen series.

It's refreshing to see adults enjoy the same sport too and they also help the characters.

The MC's rivalry is honestly so..uh...petty and icky if you think about it. Both of them got this crush on their coach (help me pls) and they want to defeat each other to become their coach's partner in the sport. It's honestly so childish? but also reminded me of CLAMP/CCS bullsht and if I survived CLAMP then this plot point is basically peanuts.

They have healthy competition tho. Both of them grew up together (childhood friends) and developed love for the sport together because their moms were the og teammates. (yeah their parents participation and love for the sport is a big thing in this series).

The other character pairs are interesting too:

announcers

twins

master-servant

lesbians (like legit sailor neptune and uranus type)

osaka girls

and etc.

Each had their own drama and they resolved it within the series.

Realism

Honestly this show is more meta than sport. Like... it's not for casual viewing. I remember there was some deep psychological issue which the twin pair portrayed. There's a lot of drama okay? HOWEVER!!! I've only been exposed to Shonen type of drama (like the USTs and hero complexes) so whatever Two Car had was unique to me!! Girls are really written differently. It easily reminded me of my interactions with fellow girls (albiet more extreme).

Fanservice

They are always shown to be in the onsen after every practice day but honestly it doesnt count as fanservice. Only their busts are shown.

You'll have to get used to shots of the butt especially in sequences of the passenger manuevering the vehicle tho. I guaranteet that there is no excessive boob action sequences and other sht.

Look I have seen stuff over the years and since this show didn't provide see-through-shirt stuff, Two Car is "fine" in my books.

HOWEVER There is a dream sequence (one of the characters dream stuff up) which is straight up bdsm (i think that's in ep 6). NGL I dropped this show for a while because of that but hah it's honestly just a few dreams for one episode.

Final Notes

Would I recommend this show? Honestly...no. But watching this was an Experience. Against the highly sanitized world of shonen anime, it's an interesting change of pace.

First of all, in girls sports, there is a lot of casual skinship because it's normal and comfortable. And there is more communication. Maybe it's a writing flaw that conflicts aren't as dragged out but idk, we dont have a lot of decent female sports anime to see what really works. Because I am often frustrated with how slow burn most shonen are, seeing characters resolve conflicts BY TALKING IT OUT is the most rewarding experience.

Honestly I really had fun watching the whole thing. The ending made me want to flip tables tho but the rest was quite enjoyable.

Personally I think ppl have more freedom in writing girls/women. There is just so much you can do with them.
