a lot of people seem to forget that "omg octolings are a metaphor for racism" has always been a fanon idea (and a really tasteless one for the record!) that got like, a single bone tossed towards it once (the ONE cuttlefish comment from NoAs localization)
like they....arent.... they arent. thats fanon. its always been fanon. "this entire species is a metaphor for racism" is a bad take and always has been.
