call me crazy, but i love a show/book/movie where the two characters i'm supposed to root for to be in a romantic relationship are in close proximity the entire time. yes, there's value in space and distance and absence making the heart grow fonder etc. but man. nothing beats closeness. no love triangle. no forced separation. just watching two characters grow, and develop, and lean on each other... witnessing all the large and small moments that make them who they are and highlight what they mean to each other. it's just so satisfying to watch.

What's your favorite car made before 2015?
That's a pretty wide span of time to choose from, considering the first car was built in 1885. If you're looking for buying advice, you might wanna narrow it down a bit more--feel free to reach out to me again if this doesn't help. If you're just looking for my opinion, though: my favorite car of all time, the first-generation Toyota MR2, was on the market from 1984 to 1989.

Peak '80s retrowave aesthetics, a high-revving four-cylinder mounted behind the driver's seat for optimum weight distribution, and handling tight enough to keep up with damn near anything through tight corners, plus the dashboard looks like the cockpit of a fighter jet; I mean, really, what's not to love? Truth be told, I'm not a big fan of most cars built in the last 15-ish years; they're stuffed full of largely-unnecessary tech features that distract drivers, make the driving experience less tactile, and make maintenance and repairs both more frequent and much more difficult, especially for the home mechanic.

Speaking as a former hot person, I think it's much more fun to look at hot people than to be one.

I love The Crown and I've watched it for years but the true story of how William and Kate met is so cute (and dare I say, unique? In some ways?) and the way it was quite literally dramatized with a love triangle, generic pining and generic angst is just so tiring. Just as I was talking to friends about nearly every new show or movie that Netflix puts out being the same formula over and over again, they go and do this with one of their more salvageable shows
Like yes it's a work of fiction merely based on reality but why take your creative license to spit out yet another edgy romantic drama?
I rant more in the tags and I realize this is random for my blog but I just had to let it all out

back then, a friend of mine had a very star trek shaped phone (i don't remember if it was a flip phone, but i think probably so) and it had voice commands, like "call [name]", so for checking voicemail, she used "picard to enterprise".
I keep seeing folks my age getting grumpy about early 2000s cell phone designs being described as "retro", and, like, let's be serious for once – those goofy things had kind of a retro vibe even when they were new. They were not a solution to a real problem that anyone had; they were like someone was trying to make Star Trek communicators real. Which was very cool compared to today's nondescript slabs of fragile glass, don't get me wrong, but let's not pretend we were on the aesthetic cutting edge here. It was 1960s sci-fi shit with more chrome.

Old Rifles Rule #hunting
youtube
At any one time, I don't think I ever owned many more than half a dozen firearms, even counting black powder guns. But in my nearly eight decades, several dozen have in turn occupied that half dozen or so firearms in my home. I'm grateful to have experienced them all. I do regret having traded or sold a few.
Those Winchester rifles, like in this video, are as much precision tools made to last and works of craft imposing on art as they are hunting weapons. Next to the Marlin model 39 in regrets is a Winchester model 55. Not the lever action Winchester in centerfire. Winchester stopped making them in 1932, but a single shot .22 rifle from the 1950s, my first rifle.
The vintage 1956 Winchester model 70 in this video is a top of the line American hunting weapon of the mid-20th century. I never owned one. Only dreamed of having one in 30-06. I also wanted a Savage model 99 in 30-06. There was a lot of good military surplus 30-06 available six decades ago. Much of it on strip clips. I passed up several opportunities to buy or trade for a Savage model 99 but always passed on the opportunity. I was young and dumb and thought the rifle's caliber wired anything, not 30-06.
