My setup today at the reptile expo!

I will definitely say, the Sunday shows are not as good as the Saturday ones. We'll probably be skipping Sunday ones from now on. I did hand out a lot of business cards and brochures today, though, and made a good impression on a lot of people. I even had one person drag her family to my booth after she handled a mouse, and we were able to work out trading in the mice her niece bought from someone else for some of mine instead.

I KNOW we changed some minds today, because there were several people who made disgusted faces until I started talking and they meandered close enough to see someone holding a calm, sweet mouse. Absolutely LOVE hearing "I never knew a mouse could be like this." I had one pest-control guy stop by and explain that he kills mice for a living, but he wanted to hold a live one that was calm and he kept quietly saying to himself "it's so different/it's so nice." I had so many people ask me "how much do you handle them to get them this tame" and be surprised the answer is "I do not handle them, this temperament is bred into their DNA." I had a lady who just... broke, standing there with a mouse laying in her hands calm as could be, and she said very quietly "do little kids hold these?" Just mystified.

I've learned now to say that they won't jump or bite because they are bred for show and have to be able to sit in a judge's hand without jumping or biting, and for some reason the judge part of this just clicks the info for people? Like I always say no they won't jump or bite, but they don't always believe me... but I say a judge has to be able to hold it? Every single person was like "oh" and just relaxed about it. Suddenly it's just like: Ah, Yes, this is a Professional Mouse.

Someone from my old job showed up, and didn't recognize me, though I recognized them. When I mentioned it, they said they'd left, too, they only "lasted" two months. I said I was there twelve years and they were like HOW and it's like my dude (neutral), I entered a fugue state in 2010 and quit the job 12 years later I guess. They ended up taking 2 mice home.

At any rate, I had fun as always. We have another one Saturday, so I'm hoping to sell the few that didn't sell today, and to bring a few more that weren't quiiiiite ready to go today. I wish the tricolors would get their act together and start breeding better, because I would LOVE to offer more of those. The siamese are working on it, which is great because those ALSO sell fast. Mikan loved her husband and her new life as a housewife. While some might find it boring, the stability of just having to tend to a beautiful house, and await a loving, caring, husband was something that she just wanted to hold on to for as long as she lived. A tightened grip of gradually began to take over its mind and literally showcase itself! Irma... I've said it in a couple of my iteration lore posts but to me??? Irma was done dirty in 87. They just slapped a Jeanette the Chipette skin over 80s Trope Explicitly Less Desireable Best Friend of MC and she deserved better... which is why I shook Janine Melnitz and Nadia Vulvokov in a Pringles can and reconstituted what was left. I know HeroForge wasn't quiiiiite meant for this but it's pretty malleable tbh, unfortunate that some pieces are tied to others but serviceable, 8/10

At aking precious Keno, tignan mo siya napaka-astig noh???? tl;dr Ernie Reyes Jr. was the ninja of my childhood and one of the few identifiable filipino faces in american tv Don't think I addressed it in other lore dumps but one of the things I borrowed from Rise to season my iteration was the gender flip which the internet dice decided on Keno. Waffled on the outfit until just throwing the approximation of Keno's iconic movie outfit. the new facial feature editing on heroforge has been immensely helpful but god the nose smaller edits options still make my head hurt... probably gonna go back and edit some more because there's a specific pango I was going for and I hadn't figured it out yet. There wasn't a curly hair pixie option either. 5.4/10

This... fucking goober. Casey Arnaldo Goongala-ass Jones. My fault for using Elden Henson (iykyk) and Avan Jogia as face inspo when I was still learning how to use heroforge's new in-depth facial editor. It's.... close. Enough. Ish. 4.1/10

And then I got curious about my non-human cast....

Mikey's tucked in a sleeve don't worry about it because I could only get 3 turtles from the options available, technically I could have gotten in all four but then I'd have to take the staff out which I preferred not to because I'm more of the Teacher and Master Splinter than Father and Daddy Splinter. Couldn't get the two little tails mustache going which is a shame since I specifically gave my Splinter the Nicodemus cut. Saw I could slap a huge scroll on him and took the opportunity hahaaaa that isn't a stolen scroll from the Foot clan stronghold naaaah, Splinter didn't take it in petty vengeance for Yoshi's death on the grounds of this clan. Hhh I'd have preferred a ryuusui or a yagasuri pattern but they had a seigaiha pattern... good enough. 5.8/10

Then I tried to make turtles. Which there is a legitimate option for! Specific turtle head (singular choice), reptilian body... just I fucked up trying to see how close I could get to my actual drawings... and I saw into the abyss...

.......................... this felt illegal somehow. i had to stop. i couldn't do a front shot, it was horrifying. 1.4/10

Pretty happy I was able to give her the Chiaki Kuriyama nose and the snobby ojousan look using the face editor. Extremely tickled I figured out just the right shine for leather. The asymmetrical bob....... is as close as I could get to her actual side swept wispy pixie, tradeoffs I guess. 7/10

missing Tup and Dogma hours so here are some headcanons about these two... also everything's slightly happier. slightly.

warnings: mention of nightmares, alcohol, the usual clone wars horrors

-Tup's hair reaches his collarbone. It’s thick and curly like every clone’s hair, and while he finds it okay to manage, Dogma is the one who puts it up for him. He does it enough times that it becomes habitual.

-Dogma cuts hair for all of the 501st (except for Domino Squad; their hair rests in Fives’s hands). His own hands happen to be very steady. He had to start somewhere though, so Dogma practiced on himself... hence the kriffed up hairline. Tup laughed himself to tears when it happened.

-they’re batchmates. They don't know what happened to their other batchmates, not for sure. For a while, whispers of 'decommissioning' spread around Kamino.

-during his cadet years, Dogma followed regulations to a T. He was ‘the perfect clone’ in the Kaminoan’s eyes, a description that earnt him his name. To Dogma, it was praise. An assurance that he would be safe from decommissioning.

-Tup was highly underestimated as a young cadet. He was considered average throughout his training, but it was something he did on purpose. He was worried that he would be separated from his batchmates, assigned to an elite squad or promoted to a different battalion, if he showed his true potential.

-Dogma and Tup are amongst the youngest of those present on Umbara. Dogma is slightly older than his batchmate, however. Their responsibility is to their brothers, but they're always the first to find each other after a battle.

-Dogma has a hidden talent for being able to draw with both hands. Being ambidextrous comes naturally to all clones, but Dogma can draw almost photorealistically on two holopads at one time.

-Tup hates sleeping on GAR-issued bedding. The blankets itch and the sheets make his skin crawl. He'd much rather sleep on the floor, or use his brother as a mattress.

-Dogma doesn't hate touch. Rather, the opposite. It's more that he doesn't know when or how to initiate it, and no way in kriffing hell is he going to ask for it. Luckily, Tup's quite receptive to his brother's thoughts, and is quite happy to provide his vod with hugs.

-Tup doesn't fear much. He stared down a charging General Krell without flinching for kriff's sake. Of course, he fears the loss of his brothers, losing the war, and his dreams, but not much else. Except maybe spiders.

-they both have a sweet tooth. Rations provided for the GAR are bland, flavourless. The first time Dogma ate a sweet snack made from scratch, he almost cried. Tup took about a billion holopics of the sweets for the sole purpose of projecting it by his bed.

-all the official reports say that Krell was killed in self defense. Rex even has audio evidence of Krell's plans to join Dooku. Because of this, Dogma stays with the 501st. With his brothers.

-Tup has nightmares more often than most of his vode. They're hazy and incomprehensible, except for the words bouncing around his mind. He can't discern what the words are. None of his dreams make sense. Tup wakes in a cold sweat and struggles to breathe, hastily brushing away shed tears.

-the first time Dogma goes to 79's, it takes quiiiiite a few drinks to even get him tipsy. When he's drunk, he tends to smile and laugh more. He's way more touchy too, slinging his arms around his vode's shoulders and wheezing at the most ridiculous things. Dogma also writes on the walls of the bathroom. His one small act of rebellion.

-they don't like being separated. Dogma doesn't leave his batchmate's side once after events on Ringo Vinda. They come as a package deal; where one goes, the other will follow.

-Fives gets the chip out of Tup's head before Nala Se can conduct any of her... 'experiments'. He couldn't have done that without Dogma's intervention. They never stopped being brothers after Umbara, but now Fives knows he has a friend he can trust. Dogma is one of three brothers who knows Fives fakes his death.

-Tup survives the operation. He knows Dogma is lying about something, but he doesn’t know what. He's numb, grief-stricken when he hears about Fives. Dogma supplies him with one of his best hugs.

-Dogma has his chip removed soon after. Kix oversees the operation. It's the last time Dogma sees the medic before he disappears.

For my story I’m having it occur within V1-V3 and it is between Jaune. So she is still in the “seductress/fem fetale” mask, but it’s again only a mask. I’m having her keep the mask when addressing others but slowly having it slip away the further she and Jaune develop together. My main idea currently is when she realizes that she and Jaune are “developing” (not in a romantic manner) she pushes him away completely. And after that little plotline is resolved, she denies her growing feelings for him. XD

For my fic, I’m going to have both Jaune/cinder falling for one another around similar times, but she doesn’t admit it until after him because she’s a stubborn little kitty.

Okay so it is Cinder/Jaune, good. :D I am happy to help with other ships because I do find Cinder's character by herself interesting enough to entertain others hypothetically but then again my reading of her (per the tags of the previous post) is that she's very very hard to get through to.

Yeah I think one of the difficulties for Cinder V1-3 is that it's not clear it's a mask to most viewers. I think that only becomes self-evident at the end of V3 (all of her dialogue with Ozpin and Pyrrha) for the keen-eyed viewer, maybe V7 or V8 for the non. My one criticism of the show would be that most of what they do with the show V3-beyond is not clearly signalled enough in the first two volumes, which I would write up as production difficulties and also, probably, figuring out the execution (I do think it's clear in retrospect what the intentions were re: say Pyrrha, Pyrrha has death flags all over her).

I came back here to edit because I realised this was really necessary discussing Cinder: what is she like by herself, inside her head? I’ve not written V1-3 yet but I think there has to be a clear demarcation between inner world vs. performance, I’ve read some renderings of Cinder’s internal monologue in fic about her before where it’s purely male-gaze, femme fatale (post-V3, some pre) played straight, also with... - and this even goes for femme fatale played straight, which is ALREADY a type of trope quagmired in clearly not women derived characterisation -  a way that a woman would never perceive herself (even women who find themselves sexy) and it doesn’t work and - I daresay - is offensive and ignorant to read. I also think it doesn’t work given her characterisation so far in canon and what we see when she’s by herself. Although maybe you could do playful/scary things where she’s not exactly sure where the mask begins and ends, but that might be beyond the scope of the romance lol. (That and I also think that Cinder’s like.. idea of a performance comes from other performance, she didn’t really know Madame other than the torture doled out and she doesn’t really know Salem, certainly not her true background, so there’s like this really bizarre echo-of-an-echo effect where no one is really like who Cinder is pretending to be).

I hope you have fun with V1-3 Knightfall. The pairing for me is sort of difficult in that setting because Jaune hasn't had quiiiiite the growth which makes them interesting together for me and the same for Cinder, though probably more for him in this case.

I also think it's worth considering she only has half the Maiden power at this point and the implication of the V3 flashback is that it's like a burning hunger, so I don't know how much that is actually affecting her behaviour or if it was ever intended as a point of characterisation (that plus her evil mastermind schemes are of import here). I do think there's reasonably character-fuelled obsession with the Maiden power but the Fall Maiden power in particular might be a factor here. That's why I think post-V3 Knightfall is most interesting, because Cinder is the bestest mostest Fall Maiden at this stage and that's exactly the position I see Knightfall happening in. I'm not sure if you've noticed but I also have a particularly concrete take on characterisation. XD

There's also the complicating factor of Jaune/Pyrrha going on (Pyrrha has feelings for Jaune), Jaune has feelings for Weiss (good grief), and then you throw Cinder in and you've got trouble lol. So you'll have to figure out how you're going to play that.

(But I think it's also good you're writing V1-3 Knightfall because I wouldn't. So moar fic with different settings. Although readers can see two of the same cakes and their reaction is only 'more cake! yes!' so doubling scenarios is also not bad).

Then again, I don't know if you want to take your fic in this direction (crack? vaguely R/WBY chibi inspired? romantic comedy? villain has unfortunate feelings getting in the way of their evil plan? Admittedly I could see crack working) but Knightfall feelings in V1-3 setting vs. Cinder killing Pyrrha after the tower and V4 and onwards angst does sound a little juicy... then again you run into that issue of Jaune wondering if Cinder really felt that way (if he knows/there is a feelings resolution??), and for me duplicity with the ship is a total turn-off, so if I were writing that I'd go to pains to make it clear that was never the case.

I'm also imagining a scene where Jaune is confronting Cinder and she gets that horrible heartbreaking confession that of course she really felt that way. And now you're too late. YESSSS JUICY ANGST mmm yummy yummy unfathomable sadness etc.

I think it's becoming clear what compels me about this ship. XD I've written fluff! I can do fluff! I've done fluff! I just think it feels better after it hurts. :D

An addendum here on femme fatales: the only femme fatale I’ve liked as-is is Rachel from Blade Runner, but she’s also a femme fatale who possesses complex depth, is literally a cognisant and sentient being dismissed as otherwise (which is so on the nose when you consider the femme fatale trope as sexy, dark, morally ambiguous woman with projected sexuality issues onto her by male characters) and also she’s just like... a sincere and beautiful angel it blows me away. Now this is about Blade Runner. Sorry. I love Rachel.

Torture Without You is not quiiiiite finished yet - still one chapter to go, just to finish on a happy note. But thank you! Writing recently has been a struggle, so it's going to feel good to finish. :D

My next project will either be finishing Taken for Granted, or finishing Remember to Forgive. Most likely hopping back and forth between the two. But I might write an occasional one-shot as we continue the rewatch.

As far as Rich goes, he's always fun to write, but I don't think I'd ever write him in a relationship with Jeller (I don't know if that was what you meant?). And I don't want to start any new multi-chapter fics, since I'd probably end up abandoning them.

Hm, this is hard though. Because thematically, Nate is the one who suits Rest in Peace, because he’s the one with the whole... unrequited love thing, with Sophie. Although in his case it’s mostly his own fault since she’s waiting for him to get his shit together, whereas Spike... I mean, it’s not really HIS fault he’s a soulless bloodsucking monster, or that Buffy is taking advantage of the fact that he’s in love with her, which SHE TOTALLY FUCKING IS-

I have a lot of feelings about Buffy and Spike’s relationship okay I could go on a whole goddamned rant about that shit.

ANYWAY the point is, thematically, Rest in Peace fits closer to home with Nate, and with music I tend to try and go more thematically. BUT... hmph. idk, maybe it’s the association of Christian Kane with the Buffyverse, or just because he and James Marsters are both musicians, but GODS I wanna hear him sing it. Just. umph. Sidenote please listen to both of them because they’re both so so good. James Marsters’ band sounds both exactly like what I expected, and nothing like it.

Sophie, I would definitely give Standing. She’s undoubtedly the parental figure of the group, and she does step away, both for her own good and because she thinks it’s best for the team. She removes herself from that equation to force him to stand on his own. It’s literally the perfect song.

Parker I actually really really really want to give Anya’s bit in I’ve Got A Theory. C’mon. It’s like. It’s such good Parker. Tell me you cannot hear Parker enthusiastically screaming BUNNIES! BUNNIES IT MUST BE BUNNIIIIIIEEEEESSSSS! And I don’t really... think that Dawn’s whole schtick is quiiiiite equivalent to Parker’s, at least not within the team. Parker doesn’t really have to struggle with feeling left out or unwanted. She doesn’t have anything to live up to in their eyes. Parker is very much an Anya-figure to me. Confused about how things work, a little displaced, trying to fit in with people who seem to understand fitting in much better than she does, a past that made her bitter and untrusting... yeah. The plus side is, Hardison (and Eliot) is a much better romantic partner than Xander.

Also do not get me started on Xander.

Hardison meanwhile... gyah, that one’s hard??? I could maybe see him as Going Through the Motions or Something to Sing About. Mostly because, of the whole team, he’s the one that most frequently displays a feeling of... dissatisfaction, with the status quo. He’s the one that wants to try at being the grifter, he’s the one that is constantly seeking approval, seeking validation, seeking just literally something and he can’t put it into words but he knows it’s missing. He gets bored. He feels like he’s stuck in a rut. He’s going through the motions. He needs something to sing about. I could give this one to Nate as well, but his version is a lot more... destructive. Less “going through the motions” and more “slamming myself through the motions like the friggin Hulk and being confused when things break”. Plus, he already gets Rest in Peace. So. Screw you, Nate. Stop being greedy.

Since thematically I can’t give Eliot Rest in Peace in good conscience... hm.

So, the nice thing about the crew is that none of them are suited for Under Your Spell or I’ll Never Tell. Sophie and Nate’s relationship is dysfunctional, but not in the same way as Tara/Willow or Anya/Xander. And the OT3 are nowhere near that shit.

So... I mean, I feel like the whole crew qualifies for Walk Through The Fire? But Eliot in particular, mostly because I feel like he can somehow manage to be every single character in that song. Buffy, singing about how she feels detached from her purpose? Giles, singing about the responsibility of looking after her? Spike, singing about the need to protect her despite being angry with her? Willow, Xander, Tara, Anya, all singing about the fear that they’ve finally met something they can’t match? These are all insecurities Eliot has felt at one point or another in his life, most of them over the course of the show. So. Yeah, I’m happy with that.

Hi, do you have any suggestions for someone thinking about getting into digital art? I was debating buying a drawing tablet but I don't even know where to start.

oo i do! first off and this is just my humble opinion, im sure traditional drawing has all the merits in the word but for me, digital made everything, from fixing lines to just editing art in general, to even coloring, so much easier

and second, i’ve had a wacom intuos pro tablet for my whole digital art career, i think i got it christmas 2013, i love it to death, but its by wacom, theyre the industry standard and thus VERY expensive, and the wacom intuos is a pen tablet meaning you draw on it while looking at your computer screen

i got a gaomon pd1560 for christmas this year and im so in love man, its a pen display meaning you can draw directly on the screen and the pressure sensitivity and the tilt sensitivity are god like and the set up is pretty easy 

all this to say, if money isn’t a factor, you def dont need to start on a pen display, id go with a pen tablet, a wacom intuos maybe, or a wacom bamboo, it might make your transition a little easier, now tbh ive always wanted the wacom pen displays but god theyre expensive and my gaomon is doing me quiiiiite well, so if you wanna try a pen display, i highly recommend it

as for art programs though, ive really only ever used Paint Tool Sai and paint tool sai 2 which has rulers and text options and all that good shit, i personally fucking hate photoshop, i was never able to understand how to use it and it always ran like shit on my computers, so theres my two cents

Lmao I am both in the Sherlock fandom and SPN fandom, and those shows are the fucking worst and they don't deserve their female characters at all. They are so problematic and we should keep our awesome females away from them, they will destroy and mistreat them. With Moffat gone for DW, I have such high hopes, and neither Sherlock or Supernatural could ever.

yeah like it’s one thing to watch and enjoy those shows (which, I don’t understand but to each their own I guess?) but it’s quiiiiite a reach to pretend like those shows are revolutionary and good for female representation when they are anything but

and like, okay I know Doctor Who could do better when it comes to representation, but let’s not ignore how it dropped in popularity during the last few years because of Moffat’s garbage plots. like, you knew it was bad when even big media outlets started criticising him

and okay, maybe one more white dude at the helm isn’t revolutionary, but Chris Chibnall knows his shit when it comes to DW and to storytelling, so whatever he does will forever and always be better than the bs we’ve been served lately
