i understand a lot of the reaction to the Universes Beyond changes announced this weekend (i cant say im thrilled myself) but i do think the funniest response is people catastrophizing about how WotC/Hasbro is phasing out the original MtG story entirely, and soon it will only be UB sets
even if we're looking at things cynically and assuming they make 100% of decisions based ONLY on what will make the most profit and there is not a single person at the company that cares about the art they make... why would they ever get rid of the one IP they own outright. they have to pay for the right to use Marvel and Fallout and stuff. they dont have to pay anyone to set stories in Ravnica!!!
why would they entirely stop doing the thing where they get 100% profit in favor of doing the thing where they get partial profit. thats silly talk!!!!

3 7 and 17 for the tolkien asks pls c:
3: I was introduced by my grandfather, who had read lord of the rings ever since he was young. In fact, his father was a huge fan of lotr. Once he started talking about it, I wanted to read it, and I asked my dad If I could borrow his set of books to read it. My dad just laughed at me and told me that I couldn't read them because I was too young and it was to complicated (Mind you I was like seven at the time) So me as a completive kid took this as a challenge. i smuggled his lotr books into my backpack (Why? I dont know.) And every day a reading time at my school, I would pick of the fellowship of the ring. At first, i thought it was really boring and nearly gave up, but once I got to the two towers, I was engrossed. By the time summer came around, I had finished the first two books. so yeah a funny story I often tell and completely unnecessary. I was an interesting child I'll say the least.
7: Quenya. It is such a beautiful language, and I would love to go to one of the first age elves and start talking fluent quenya just to scare the absolute shit out of them.
17: I love every single one of his songs and poetry, but there is one that makes me incredibly emotional every time I read it. I Sit Beside the Fire and Think is my favorite. Though it is simple, It feels nostalgic for me. All I want to do in life is see the world, but I cant. I am stuck in a slummy city with little money and a list of people who I have lost. I had plans where we would travel together, get out of this place and far far away. When I read this poem it transports me right back to them, where we were sitting in the summer and talking about our dreams. When I read this poem, I think of the people I lost and what could have been, but it also makes me hopeful, because they are always with me in a way.
Thanks for asking, sorry for the last one its kind of a vent
