i get that ppl are angry and sad and feeling despair so you tend to want to blame someone for it but when you're like 'you told the democratic party that you're taking your vote away from its candidate and so it's your fault that the party ignored you', look at this white guy whose job was to speak on the humanitarian crises around the world and advise the US government on how to mitigate those problems talk about being silenced on palestine in particular. I would say that palestinian americans and arab americans were desperate to get harris's ear because there is a systematic attempt at silencing voices sympathetic to palestinians so they adopted certain strategies to have their voices heard but they were ignored time and again because it is simply the policy of the biden admin and consequently harris as vp to not show even a smidge of empathy towards palestinians lest they will be viewed as turning their backs on their best bud israel.

Kamala Harris is NOT pro-Israel (part 1)
Edit: since so many people on this site love to piss on the poor, I should state very clearly that I'm not claiming "Harris has never said anything positive about Israel" I mean that she's not against Palestine as trolls are claiming, she is fighting for a two-state solution, as you would know if you watched her acceptance speech or you actually bothered to read this post before hurling insults at me.
I'm sure a lot of this is just alt-right trolls trying to stop leftists from voting for her, but to all the genuinely well-intentioned people out there, please read this post (and the others too, preferably)
1: In her acceptance speech on Thursday, Kamala made it clear that she wants an immediate ceasefire with a peaceful, two-state solution, and for all hostages to be freed.
2: "But Biden is pro-Israel!" She is not Joe Biden. She is Kamala Harris. She still works for him, and can't speak out against his handling of the war publicly. Similarly, she was NOT in charge of his policies.
3: "But why isn't she doing more?" She, along with others in the administration, have been working on negotiating for a while now. There are rumors that Trump told Israel not to accept so she would look worse, but these are not proven
4: "But the DNC didn't have a Palestinian speaker!" Kamala Harris is not in control of the DNC. She does not control who speaks there. The DNC likely did this because the war is an incredibly divisive issue and they didn't want to alienate the many politicians who are staunchly pro-Israel. it sucks, but it is not because of Kamala.
Even if you don't believe me for whatever reason, what harm would come from voting for Harris? What good would come of not voting for her? It's either her or Trump, it's not like if you don't vote no one will be elected. This is what all this anti-Harris propaganda never mentions, as they lie to you about her stance.
Voting is not about endorsing someone who is perfect. No one is perfect and no politician will 100% line up with your beliefs. Politics is about deciding which candidate you would rather have in office, and right now your options are Kamala Harris, or Donald Trump. Who would you rather have running the country?

Also LMAO @the leftist response to the dnc giving room for disaffected republicans instead of pandering to their crazy (like they even let bernie speak!!). Like girl thats a message when you spend alllll your free time proudly shitting on dems you can't get mad when we look elsewhere to broaden our coalition. And there were sooooo many acknowledgements of and nods to the left as it was. Maybe think more strategically abt how you deal w organized politics if you want to be catered to on a silver platter. It turns out negotiating in good faith for real material objectives might NOT just be for winemom cringelibs after all
I mean, if you continually say you’re not going to vote, not willing to listen or act in good faith, and expect everything to be catered to you, yeah, people will just go to where there’s a more receptive audience even and especially if it doesn’t mean they’re in full agreement as long as some core commonalities can be agreed upon.

Regarding Josh Shapiro, he is clearly a more powerful speaker than Tim Walz so do you think he could have been a more energetic campaigner if he was the VP?
But is Shapiro really a more powerful speaker than Walz? He's certainly more polished, but it's possible to be too polished. I'm not taking anything away from Governor Shapiro because I do think he gave a good speech at the DNC, but Governor Walz is so much more natural when he's speaking and I personally feel more of a connection to what Walz says and how he says it than Shapiro.
I joked last night that Shapiro does a great impression of Barack Obama, and he obviously has patterned his speaking style after President Obama, right down to many of Obama's mannerisms. Now, if you're going to emulate someone's speaking style, you can do a lot worse than Barack Obama. But, as someone who worked for Obama from the very beginning of his Presidential campaign and reveres Barack Obama, I can also admit that sometimes Obama was too polished, as well. I thought Obama often relied too heavily upon the Teleprompter and he was never subtle when reading off of it, and he was always at his best when he dropped his guard and spoke more extemporaneously. But President Obama was and is a supremely disciplined politician and public speaker, so he would often sacrifice some of the poetry that he was undoubtedly capable of weaving into his oratory in order to stay laser-focused on the specific message of the speeches he was giving.
I'm pretty confident that Kamala Harris made the perfect choice with Tim Walz as her running mate and I can't imagine any other choice could have brought more energy to the ticket than Walz has in a remarkably short amount of time. And even in the early days of these whirlwind couple of weeks, you can tell that there is genuine personal chemistry between Harris and Walz. Shapiro would have been fine if he had been the Vice Presidential nominee, but I don't see how it could have worked out better than what we've seen since Kamala chose Governor Walz.

RWRB Thoughts: The Deadline Contender Panel
Quick list of very direct, subjective, random and spontaneous thoughts I had while listening/watching the panel:
I absolutely understand that Taylor probably doesn't remember every detail of the movie off the top of his head, especially with nerves, but Sweetheart really didn't describe the played DNC scene correctly😅
That being said Taylor calling Henry Alex's boyfriend made me SO FUCKING HAPPY???? I was squealing and kicking my legs because of all the feels. On top of that, intentional or not, Taylor takes a breath so it goes "wanted to bring his... boyfriend!" and there's this subtle emphasis on the word, I am screaming
I do question why this scene though? I don't know much about this whole process, but just an educated guess, if we're trying to get an emmy nom via this panel, shouldn't we be showing a scene that's more representative of the movie's core? Like, say the New Year's scene, or Kensington Palace, or the Lake scene. If we have to include the comedy aspect, then show the freaking Red Room. I love this scene of course, but if the purpose is to nominate ourselves and show ourselves then I feel like another scene should have been picked
Why can't people freaking pronounce Nick's surname correctly? It's phonic! Ga - Lit- Zine
"Orange Guy was still president" I snorted
I heard there's stupid discourse over this minor, harmless thing, but because people are stupid, here to clarify "especially Taylor since he's here" is CLEARLY A JOKE BETWEEN FRIENDS and if you didn't pick that up then that's kind of sad :P
I'm wondering if there's still recordings of the zoom auditions/chem read. I can also imagine zoom chem read being much harder. Honestly I think zoom auditions only work with monologues.
He did the chem read in his sister's apartment lmao
THEIR CHEM READ WAS KENXINGTON????!!! WHAT THE FUCK???!!! THE MOMENT THAT MADE MATTHEW GO "there's the one" WAS THIS FREAKING SCENE??? This also implies they had to say "I love you" upon the first time meeting each other oh my god I wanna see that so bad
Also I cannot freaking imagine this intense of a scene via zoom, God I really want to see it (don't think we'll ever get it but still)
Someone ask Matthew or Nick what the other scene in the chem read is
The notebook, pride and prejudice and 10 things i hate about you mention made me happy :D
The speech thing... Kinda feel like should be a Matthew question? It's cool to hear that Taylor referenced President Obama but this is still ultimately him being Alex? Plus Taylor's a great public speaker to begin with
Did he dabble in political science? Did he ever mention that? I know he did Spanish and Community but political science?
I think the only really bad gay movie in recent years was Bros and that has a myriad of issues internally and externally, but I think it's just this one?
Why is TikTok the metric? Might write something longer in the future when I have time but the thing is with this
Speaking of Taylor and queer roles, I think I saw somewhere that Noah Torres was bi?
I talked to @pippin-katz about this but dear God, I have heard the question "What is your favourite scene" being asked to the boys at least three times now, and they always answer the cake scene. Why don't they ever expand on the question, especially since Taylor affed the Kensington scene this time, and why don't they ever ask other questions or ask about specifics? Between me and my friends, we came up with at least 40 questions that could be asked to the boys and haven't been asked yet.
Nick how the fuck did cream stay in/ behind your ear for two days and Taylor how did you spot it
I'm honestly getting really tired of the sequel question, it's always phrased the same way, and of course, the answer is gonna be the same. Even if they knew, they contractually can't tell us, the first announcement of a sequel will have to come from a bigger source like Amazon themselves.
I understand being nervous but this interviewer felt too timid and unsure of herself
Overall still very enjoyable, always more than happy to hear Taylor speak about his baby that we all love, but the question are so freaking repetitive. I said it clearer in my discussion with Pippin so here's a screenshot of that part

HEY CHECK IT OUT
Tumblr media
what the fuck.
if you're out of the loop, there's been a TON of activity in political tiktok, specifically in the leftist space. an obvious talkie has been attempting to spread the lie that they were paid $15,000 by the DNC (which turns out to be a lie; it was $10,000 from a third party group called Vocal so the content creator can make content about Project 2025) & then made the claim that any content creator speaking well about Democrats were all getting paid to do so, which was also a lie & even if it wasn't, who cares? people put in a ton of work & don't often get paid enough.
the next big issue: this tankie, who is a white woman that lives in California, made an outrageous claim that Angela Davis wasn't a true member of the Black Panthers & now the explosive & entirely valid conversations about racism & white supremacy exist even in leftist spaces are taking that area by storm.
black women have been talking about it quite a bit & by now they're annoyed because it sounds like they're defending Kamala Harris even though they may not like her or her policies even if they may be voting for her anyways or not.
the input & knowledge from black women is important & we all need to listen. the fact is that as white people exist, we're living in a system founded on & upheld by white supremacy & what's worse is in leftist spaces, because people believe they're the ultimate ally, they don't need to put in anymore work.
but then things get sticky. things get uncomfortable. they have to be white saviors & once again, black & indigenous folks living here will pay the price.
certain leftists can claim they're anti-genocide as much as they wish but they're only partially against a specific one going on. i don't blame them for caring because everyone should give a damn about people going through something so horrific. that said, whatever horrors have been going on to our fellow man here don't seem to bother them as much. there may be some compassion here & there but nowhere near the level of devotion to people across an ocean from us.
then you get the shit in the above screenshot. a chaos agent. a putin puppet, who is stanned by the likes of Kshama Sawant, an accelerstionist as far as i can tell as well as Hassan Abdel Salam, both of whom have admitted they know they can't win but they want Harris to lose ignoring the fact that trump wants to deport them & others like them no matter how long they may have lived here. you get jill stein, someone who can immediately call netanyahu & Biden war criminals but when pressed about her precious putin suddenly she has a problem with "name calling" (the KGB should have trained her better). she's received money from Republicans for her campaign. she's getting help from trump lawyers. trump personally thanked her by name in a speech earlier this year because even he knows she's another tool for him.
it's wild how green party voters call those voting for Harris "blue maga" but they themselves are behaving more like original maga than they will care to admit let alone see. i'm not saying that there aren't those who think Harris is perfect, but i hardly see such blind devotion the way i see people have for trump & stein. both are cult leaders. they say things their followers want to hear.
stein's response?
Tumblr media
oh no you don't. this was from 2016:
Tumblr media
she's full of it. a KKK leader felt safe enough to endorse her & i'm now seeing her cult followers defending her, such as believing that he was paid by Democrats to do this & that we're apparently celebrating Dick Cheney's endorsement (i saw one comment saying people think Cheney is "brat" lmao) even though there had been zero celebrating & mostly trepidation & astonishment. he's clearly not voting for Harris because he has a change of heart; even if it's for selfish reasons, he & a bunch of other old Republicans see the danger that trump possesses. they're not agreeing with policies from Harris because she's "far right" (a bullshit claim anyways); they're agreeing that any extremist takeover is NOT GOOD. leftists refuse to see this perspective.
so like i mentioned earlier, it's white supremacy. jill stein has taken a once noble party & bastardized it to the point that white supremacists & antisemites feel safe in her space (i'm not saying that being pro-Palestine means you're an antisemite. i'm pointing out that Duke is also an antisemite). it's disgusting & disturbing. she's a wealthy white woman who won't be harmed by Project 2025. she wants trump to win & she & her rabid followers are working to make that happen.
third party voters, you aren't safe. you are accelerstionists to me now regardless of reason. your voting this way or not voting at all isn't brave or impressive, it's selfish, a surrender, cowardly. you don't want to get your hands dirty but when things go to shit you will refuse to take any responsibility for your part in it. the revolution you want so badly is nothing more than your version of the Rapture & the only revolution that will be happening is a fascist one because Republicans know how to play a long game to get real results unlike you leftists. they love that your tunnel vision self-righteousness makes you stupid & willing to throw your fellow vulnerable Americans under the bus so you get to feel morally superior.
you're monstrous. i'm not bothering to try to beg or play nice with you lot since you're no better than trump's maga. a former KKK leader endorsed your precious savior & nothing you say will change that. to make excuses is to make your space safe for white supremacy. you're unsafe.

Amanda Marcotte at Salon:
CHICAGO — Vice President Kamala Harris only entered the presidential race a month ago, so it's unsurprising to see trace evidence all over the Democratic National Convention of the original plans of when President Joe Biden was the nominee. The order of the states for the ceremonial roll call, the choice speaking slots for folks like Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware, and even a party platform that was so hastily rewritten it mentions Biden's "second term": all ghosts of the convention that would have been if Biden hadn't stepped down. Unsurprising, the most prominent relic of the alt-history convention was Biden's Monday night speech, which focused on the theme of his now-deceased campaign: "clear and present threats to our very democracy" from Donald Trump.  "Democracy has prevailed, democracy has delivered, and now democracy must be preserved," Biden declared. In contrast, the Harris campaign has downplayed the "democracy" talk in favor of another word: freedom.
"In this election, many other fundamental freedoms are at stake," Harris said in her convention speech Thursday night, listing everything from reproductive rights to the right to vote. But she connected it into a larger, more aspirational vision. "Here in this country, everything is possible. Nothing is out of reach." Citing a lesson from her mother, Harris told the nation, "Never let anyone tell you who you are. You show them who you are." Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, Harris' running mate, struck a similar tone in his 16-minute speech Wednesday night. "When Republicans use the word freedom," he said, they mean freedom "to invade your doctor’s office," "to pollute your air and water," and "to take advantage of customers." Democrats, in contrast, "mean the freedom to make a better life for yourself and the people that you love."
Harris even uses "Freedom" by Beyoncé as her walk-on music. The watchword of the defunct Biden campaign — "democracy" — has faded into the background as this "freedom" messaging takes over. And some political observers are worried about this change. "Harris should not abandon democracy as a campaign issue, but rather double down on it," Vox's Zack Beauchamp wrote, citing studies suggesting that "democracy" messaging works well on "moderate Trump-skeptical Republicans." He argued that such a message could be folded into the "freedom" message by "highlighting attacks on democratic freedoms," such as the "freedom to vote."
It's overstated to say Harris' campaign has abandoned the "democracy" language. The week's program, for instance, featured speakers and segments on the January 6 insurrection. In her convention speech, Harris reminded the crowd of Trump's coup, arguing he "fanned the flames" of the riot. Multiple speakers at the convention highlighted how the vote was hard-won for certain Americans. But the campaign does seem to feel that "democracy" is too abstract. Americans support democracy in theory, but in practice, it can be confusing or opaque. Many voters can't say who their governor or senator is, much less their local representatives. "Democracy" is a word that may sound soaring to political junkies, but feels bureaucratic and frankly bloodless to many others.  "Freedom," in contrast, is an idea more people can wrap their hands around, especially with MAGA Republicans openly gunning to take away freedoms that protect the most intimate parts of people's lives, like who they marry or when they have children. The path between your vote and the end goal of policies can seem byzantine. But losing the right to abortion is immediately visceral. Most everyone knows how life-derailing an unwanted pregnancy or medical emergency can be.
When Salon asked delegates and other attendees at the DNC what they think makes MAGA "weird," few of them mentioned the Capitol riot or Trump's attempted coup, though both are abnormal in American history. Instead, most folks cited the obsessive way that MAGA leaders like Trump or his running mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, want to control the daily lives of everyday Americans. They cited book bans, abortion bans, the rejection of gay rights, the bans on trans health care, and the attacks on women who choose not to have children. One attendee flagged Trump's hostility towards interracial couples like Harris' parents. Multiple people brought up Project 2025's voluminous suggestions for policies meant to dictate everything from what you're allowed to read to who you're allowed to marry.
Amanda Marcotte wrote an excellent perspective in Salon that Kamala Harris's nomination acceptance speech at the DNC, along with various other speakers, honed in on a freedom-centric message focusing on defeating Donald Trump. Kamala Harris

(LongPost) Joe Biden completely recast the 2024 election and Donald Trump can't handle it
Democrats were able to take bold action. Republicans are still embracing a fascist, who's having a full-blown meltdown.
Michelangelo Signorile
President Biden did something Donald Trump could never do: give up power.
He listened to members of his own party, people who weren’t afraid to speak up.
That’s the opposite of what happens in the GOP, where Trump silences anyone who challenges him with threats of political annihilation, the hallmark of an authoritarian.
And now, as Biden announced he was dropping out of the race while focusing on important issues for the remainder of his successful presidency, we can all get behind a historic candidate for president, Vice President Harris, someone who will energize voters and transform this presidential race.
Already, Democrats have raised a torrent of money from online small donors—over $50 million as of last night. It was the biggest online haul from small donors since 2020, showing the enormous excitement.
The Signorile Report is reader-supported. If you’ve valued reading The Signorile Report, consider becoming a paid subscriber and supporting independent, ad-free opinion journalism. Thanks!
Yes, these last few weeks and the process surrounding them were messy and drawn out, taking up precious time. We weren’t in agreement about what was playing out. Many of us went back and forth in the span of a few days—or even a few hours. It was also often enraging and heartless, as a sensational corporate media inflamed the discussion for its own purposes. I was certainly outspoken about that, as were many of you.
But we’ve come to a great place.
First off, the drawn-out process—which mostly was about Biden coming to a decision that certainly had to be made deliberately and with care—wound up benefiting Democrats and hurting Trump. He chose JD Vance, going full MAGA extremist and Project 2025-backed in his VP running mate selection. He was cocky and confident that Biden wasn’t leaving the ticket. He would have chosen someone who highlighted diversity or was part of the GOP establishment if he believed Biden was stepping down and endorsing Harris.
Better yet, Trump’s entire campaign and the entire Republican National Convention have been wasted, as they were focused on a candidate who is no longer running. He’s even now whining about having spent all his money on Biden. Poor baby.
We also seem to have dodged the suggestions of a “mini-primary” and a chaotic battle at the Democratic convention. There is simply no time left for that. As the days went on, more Democratic leaders came behind supporting Harris if Biden dropped out, as a consensus was built. It helped to alleviate fears of disunity and a party in disarray at an open convention in August.
There will likely still be an open convention and voting by the over 4000 delegates, as Democratic leaders heed the advice of those who say this shouldn’t be a coronation by the few hundred members of the Democratic National Committee.
But other potential candidates, named in recent weeks by those calling on Biden to drop out, took themselves out of the running. Governors Gavin Newsom, Wes Moore, and Gretchen Whitmer made that clear, while Governors Josh Shapiro and Roy Cooper quickly endorsed Harris, as did Cabinet Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona. They are all potential running-mate contenders, with Shapiro, Whitmer, Cooper, and Kelly reportedly under the most serious consideration.
So Harris will not have any real competition—even as Joe Manchin laughably announced he may re-register as a Democrat to run for the nomination, only to backtrack on the idea this morning—and Harris comes with a campaign war chest and, most powerfully, Biden’s endorsement, which the majority of delegates will surely honor. Already, at least five state delegations to the DNC announced they unanimously backed Harris as the candidate, as did all 50 Democratic state party chairs.
I know there’s lots of disagreement, angst, and sadness among many about the pressure put on Biden to drop out. I was in fact among those who two weeks ago were saying we needed to get behind Biden, as he’d made it clear he was not leaving the race and we needed to focus on Trump. And many were annoyed that the discussion continued even after Biden said he was staying in.
But I trust that almost everyone involved has been acting in good faith (except for the corporate media). Trump is an existential threat. Concerned people, from the donors and members of Congress to the rank and file of the party, had different opinions about what would be the least risky path. Many believed Biden should stay in, viewing that was less risky, while others pushed for a replacement, seeing that option as having less risk. And it was debated in the open for over three weeks.
This is where that’s all come now, and everyone should get behind Harris. And let’s be clear that it happened because Biden, and Biden alone, made a selfless decision to put the country ahead of himself based on data about the race and what he was being advised. That shows him to be a patriot in addition to having had one of the most successful presidencies in history, one which Harris, as a member of that administration, can build on in a new presidency.
Don’t buy all of the palace intrigue stories in the media about Biden “seething” in recent days at his beach house in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, “digging in” and refusing to drop out—stories based on unnamed sources and reported even as late as Sunday morning, just hours before he announced he was leaving.
We now learn—from the same media that pushed those narratives, mainly the New York Times—that Biden was in fact preparing his letter to the American people announcing he was leaving the race all day Saturday, even as the reports of him being “dug in” were circulating well into Sunday afternoon just before his announcement.
Share The Signorile Report
The president saw polling and other data that made it clear to him that he needed to make a move. Biden saved us from Trump in 2020, and he now passes the torch to a candidate who makes history, who would become the first woman and Asian American, and the second Black person, to become president.
Biden is not stepping down because of cognitive decline—contra the ridiculous claims of those in the GOP now saying he can’t run the country if he can’t run for president—but rather because of shaky support in polls (in his case, because of a very bad debate that exacerbated the situation). This is what President Lyndon B. Johnson did in 1968—another enormously successful one-term president—and what other presidents did after they saw support dwindling. So it’s nothing new, and the president can certainly run the country for the remainder of his term.
This is a fresh start, and, as I said, the excitement is reflected in the amount of money Harris raised from small donors—and the big donors who were worried about Biden—in less than 24 hours.
And Donald Trump is very worried.
As I noted, he picked JD Vance, an extremist in his positions and a bit of a dud in his oratory and campaign skills, thinking Biden was the candidate. He stupidly listened to his two not-very-bright sons, Eric and Don Jr., who were charmed by Vance, who is a tool of the man who bankrolled him, tech billionaire Peter Thiel. The Vance pick was lauded by the leaders of Project 2025, who excuse Trump’s crimes and wouldl help him commit more as they work with him to consolidate power.
Trump again tried in vain to distance himself from Project 2025 at a rally on Saturday in Michigan, deathly afraid of the connection. And after Biden’s announcement on Sunday, he showed how petrified he is of Harris, already pushing back against debating her.
His fear drove him to write ugly, panic-laden posts on Truth Social attacking Biden and Democrats, which had critics saying he was “shitting his pants” in an overnight meltdown. Even the far-right Wall Street Journal editorial page criticized Trump in an editorial, headlined: “Trump Gives an Assist to Democrats: His reaction to Biden’s decision was small-minded and divisive.”
The 2024 election is Donald Trump’s to lose, and he may yet manage it.That was our reaction to his splenetic outburst on Sunday after President Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race. It should have been an opportunity to show some class and judgment by welcoming the decision, warning U.S. adversaries not to take advantage of Mr. Biden’s last few months in office, and saying Vice President Kamala Harris will have to defend Mr. Biden’s failed record. Short and presidential, with a unifying tone. Not Donald Trump. On Truth Social on Sunday after the announcement, the former President posted this: “Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for president and is certainly not fit to serve—and never was! . . .” And on down from there.  We realize Mr. Trump is frustrated that he won’t be able to run against Mr. Biden. The biggest doubt voters have about Mr. Trump is that he’s a divisive, vindictive man who is unable to speak for all Americans. He had a chance on Sunday to show he was capable of more, but he didn’t rise to the occasion.
Trump, of course, will never “rise to the occasion,” as he is incapable of it. The WSJ editorial page knows this, even as they hope against all hope.
And “frustrated” isn’t the word I’d use to describe his reaction to not running against Biden. He is, rather, immensely frightened.
Trump is now the oldest candidate in the race, one showing mental declineas he fumbles sentences, confuses names, makes non-sensical comments about “the late, great Hannibal Lecter," and is an overall rambling, low-energy mess. That was clear in his sleepy yet hateful and ultimately disastrous acceptance speech at the convention—and it’s why he’s not campaigning a lot—which completely upended the convention’s bogus unity theme.
Trump thought running against Biden, and using the media’s one-sided obsession with Biden’s age, would insulate him. Now he’s exposed, as all the focus will be on his fumbles in addition to his authoritarianism.
The entire MAGA world is, in fact, angry and fearful, railing on social media and attacking Democrats and Biden. And Trump’s campaign officials are worried. Per Axios:
Some of [Trump’s] advisers are quite concerned that a fresh, youthful, non-Biden ticket presents a bigger threat than Trump assumes…the Trump team's biggest concern, and some early polling flicks at why, is that Harris would help turn out more women, who historically vote in greater numbers than men. Harris, armed with Democrats’ abortion message, which worked well in off-year elections — could leverage the nation's gender divide.
Be fully prepared that they will be working hard to demonize Harris. Democrats have got to define her before the Trump and the GOP does. The good news is that she’s already a high-profile figure who has truly grown in he past year, on the campaign trail and in her public profile.
The contrast now couldn’t be clearer: a convicted felon and his enablers vs. a former prosecutor and her fighters for justice. It’s autocracy vs. democracy.
If some voters, as the polls suggested, disliked Trump but were reticent about Biden because of his age and the debate performance, they now have a new choice: a woman who will be making the case against Trump on reproductive freedom, racist bigotry, and democratic freedoms.
It’s time to rally everyone, get energized for this fight, and beat Donald Trump.

Regarding uncommitted movement request to have a speaker at the convention, how much do you want to bet the proposed vetted speech had a call for an arms embargo and that was the deal breaker?
I would be a lot more critical of the democrats not giving the Uncommitted delegates a speaking spot if 1) it didn’t almost certainly have a poison pill like an arms embargo and 2) they didn’t decide to go around heckling Harris multiple times in the past month thus making them look untrustworthy to the DNC.
Like you, I get the argument for an arms embargo because Bibi is not acting in good faith and is a complete piece of shit who is trying to stay out of prison instead of getting the hostages home, and there needs to be a better way to put pressure on Israel, but an arms embargo would likely be a disaster in practice. I wonder if a middle ground would be finding ways to further increase pressure/sanctions on the West Bank settlers who are harming Palestinians and trying to block aids.
I think if a pro-Palestinian speaker was willing to endorse Harris, not accuse the US government of genocide or demand an arms embargo to Israel, and stick to the script, they should be allowed to speak at the DNC, but they (understandably) won’t do that so we’re at an impasse. That Georgia state rep who wanted to speak released the speech she wanted to give but quite frankly, I don't believe she'll stick to the script because they're already lying constantly! Like I said:
Tumblr media
That said, I don't really think the Israeli family needed to speak either but they did, and we can't undo that.
Also, yeah I'm not sure why nobody is acknowledging that an arms embargo isn't likely to happen for geopolitical reasons aside from the fact swing voters may not LOVE Israel but they sure as hell don't like Palestinians and they'll view cutting off arms to Israel as capitulating to Muslims, which quite frankly it is, even though I don't personally think it's a bad thing to do that.
I agree with your middle ground though, increased sanctions are probably the best move as well as conditioning aid rather than demanding a point-blank arms embargo.

I think something being missed in conversations about voting or not is that we're no longer asking a percentage of people who are going to suffer either way to split hairs. We are asking a percentage of people who are dying/permanently disable or who will die either way to split those hairs. This is just speaking on understanding, because I think that's more helpful than what I've seen go around here so far.
If you CAN vote*, research which third party candidate is the most viable so that more money could go to third parties. That's a choice that might be meaningful to your grandchildren.
But I don't think we can shame & berate people who have lived through repeatedly mass disabling, mass death events that Biden did in fact worsen- as well as genocides ACCELERATED by Biden- for not prioritizing the comfort of a dwindling upper middle class in four year chunks any more.
Additionally, many of the people who died from COVID & who are losing loved ones to these Biden funded genocides are the groups of people the Dems rely on for their votes. The Democrats are functionally a fundraising group. I would not even consider them a political party any more. I don't think it's fair to tell people their lived experience of mass death, eugenics, growing poverty and homelessness under Biden's term alone is not an adequate summation of his time.
I'm from Appalachia. I've worked very hard to keep communities out of the hands of the corrupt men who would imagine & present themselves as the South. I've been volunteering since I was a teenager to move voting blocks there left because once upon a time it meant the difference between no child eating and 20% of kids getting free and reduced lunch. I've always closed my eyes and swallowed the bitter taste of one sprinkle of progress from someone who thinks I'm dumb & doesn't actually care if I live or die. But this is not the poverty my family has survived for a hundred years. It's meaner. And Biden's handful of band aids on a handful of bullet holes is laughable compared to the damage. I can't in good conscience ask anyone to grin and bare it.... because Biden keeps moving right instead of listening to his base and my family has died and continues to die & suffer anyway as a direct result of his policy.
You have to do you. You have to make your choices. But your ire shouldn't be at people whose line in the sand is being systemically killed at a higher rate that the U.S. was already doing that and funding an accelerationist genocide that ultimately serves and enables an evangelical right. Take your anger to the DNC. Take it to town halls. Think bigger than four years at a time. Think bigger than YOU. Bigger than YOUR survival.
Again, people are DYING either way. It's not just a tantrum for the sake of clean hands. It's people saying if I am going to die, it will not be cosigning Pick-A-Tyrant (which is where we are, which in my opinion is an acceleration from Fascism or Oligarchy, because Biden and the Dems truly said "BOTH ✌🏻🏳️‍🌈🖤").
*I am personally an example of another way the Dems have destroyed their own voter base - I have been transient/homeless for so long now I can no longer prove I live anywhere and so I cannot vote

I'm going to talk about something that is weighing on me today after the results of the election.
I made a mistake that I'm not proud of. At the time I was thinking about Palestine, about my grief, about the thousands of people who have died, about the people the Biden administration has already hurt in my country and in my state. I was thinking about the fight we'd have with either candidate. At the time I hadn't heard any good points as to why I should vote for her that weren't just praise and/or fear mongering. It was something I thought very hard about all the way until filling out my ballot I even left it as the last thing to vote on. In the end I did what I thought was ultimately the right thing to do.
Truthfully my decision was lead by so many things. Some of which are things I'm not proud of, like my own white guilt and my inability to sift through all the feedback and make the decision that fit the needs of my community. I don't want to be part of the problem, I'm trying to take the guilt I feel and use it to learn something.
I am scared, if I'm being honest I didn't think he would take 51% of the votes. I am proud of the people who stood their ground on this issue and tried to tell the DNC they can't bully us into voting for them. I wish more people voted in general not just for president because we now have Republican majority in both the Senate and the House which is scary and I think it says a lot about how this would've gone anyways and the way that people are turning.
If you feel anger at me or anyone who voted third party I understand your anger, I ask you to please use your anger constructively, direct it at the system, at the people who chose white supremacy and understand that my choice wasn't out of ignorance. For me it was a personal decision, genocide is my line, I felt I wouldn't be able to speak to the Palestinians that I DM regularly without a sense of guilt if I voted against them. I want to be a good anti racist and I'm sorry that the system works the way that it does. I'm sorry that Trump is president.

Erin Reed is so annoying, like some of her reporting is good, but jeez she is SO! dedicated to the attacking the Democrats thing, she's bitching that the DNC hasn't mentioned trans/trangender while the RNC was hung up on it, and then was like "oh Biden mentioned us more before dropping out" oh guess you shouldn't have slagged him off every change you got and spread the lie that he was betraying trans rights? wild.
like yes I also wish the DNC had done more on the issue, I would have liked Sarah McBride to speak, and if it'd been Biden as nominee that would have been more likely. But I can't help but feel like how many loud/major trans voices, even those of elected officials being super fucking unhelpful has made that a much harder ask
And also, they keep talking about protecting LGBTQ rights and strengthening them, which includes trans rights?
I'd take that, and the Democrats consistently supporting LGBTQ rights (and trans rights) over the weird and hostile fixation and opposition and mention the Republicans had and have.

Took me a while, but I've finally seen US liberals whining about people being arrogant and demanding for pointing out that the DNC didn't even bother pretending that it was a liberal sham, as it excluded a Palestinian Dem who had a vetted speech and let the family of a Israeli hostage speak instead.
I'm not going to say who it was, since A) it was multiple people and B) I've forgotten their handles and names because I could honestly care less to reply to them. Such people are uninterested in being educated. They don't want to face a reality that discomforts them, and thus they become genocide enablers.
But you only get what you give. They like to paint Republicans as the "Leopards eating my face party", while forgetting that it's no different to their own, and that in bashing onto "stupid, demanding, arrogant people who just can't understand", they are bashing the only common enemies they have with Republicans. They are just paving the way for the leopards to eat their face, too.

Look I can't deny that there's a fair bit of rational self-interest in voting for Biden (in states where it matters) at this point, Trump's declared his intent to make things so bad we'll long for this abysmal status quo.
But it's fucking ridiculous to say the only knock against him is age, if you're speaking to anybody even an inch left of CNBC anchors you're unlikely to hear mention of his age. What you'll hear is that the primary campaign promise he's kept is that "nothing will fundamentally change."
He's made some good appointments and allowed organized labor to flex some real muscle for the first time in years, but that really pales in comparison to his enthusiastic support for the Genocide in Gaza.
The real defeatism, the real "psyop," if you ask me is this line about how we can't ask for or demand or even express interest in better things.
Since there's no alternative we're supposed to give up on critique? Fuck that, it means that it behooves Biden to be better. If he wants to win it's not on us, it's on him to start acting like it, and it's our responsibility to demand better things instead of acquiesce to the DNC wanting to beat Trump but not if it means losing some wealthy donors.
American politics today:
Donald Trump: I will be a dictator for a day! We’ll set up deportation camps staffed by 2 million National Guard troops! We’ll use the power of the state to punish our domestic enemies!
Media: did you know Joe Biden is four years older than Trump? It’s *crazy *!

Started off with a promising, if underpowered RW Mouse deck, my first time drafting this style of deck, and I just could never draw anything when I needed it--either I got my valiantes but not juice, or the juice without the valiantes, or the secret third option, the wrong kind of valiante with the wrong kind of juicer, so I couldn't really make use of either. And I was only running 16 lands, but lo, and behold, even with my looter valiante operating unhindered, I still drew like 5 lands in a row! Unbelievable. Drawing absolutely nothing and just getting run over. I did have one cool attack one match where my guys just got absolutely huge on an attack thanks to the trusty bow equipment, my single-pump duo, and then my guy who pumps a target per its power every combat, and then in combat, my guy untaps another creature, so I had some three or four valiant triggers that combat and my opponent could either obliterate his board or die, and he chose option three: scoop. So the deck could have scraped together four wins if things lined up (another match I never drew red lands until turn four or five while of course having a red-packed hand), but the deck needed to start strong otherwise it just can't match up with any nonsense that gets off the ground. Speaking of which, my first of only two wins was against a bat deck that was gaining all kinds of life, but I was able to pump my first strike lifelinker while trying to draw out of my rut with my looter, and fortunately the chunks of life gain offset his army of bats and life drain triggers, but it could have easily gone the other way. Anyway, the sweet games were sweet, but far too many were frustrating in waiting for things to fall together just so. I don't know if I coulda built or even drafted the deck differently, but certainly my inexperience with this strategy was definitely a hindrance. Anyway, closed the day with watching the DNC headliners, and man, some emotional speeches. I found myself quite near tears as Joe ended his speech, too, not that I wasn't already emotionally raw when he walked out for the first time. To think we coulda had another term of him, and that all these friends and allies of him just completely turned their backs on him, for the absolutely uncertainty of someone else--nobody, nobody, knew for sure everyone would line up behind Kamala or that things would come together so seamlessly, so flawlessly, including her VP pick. So for inviting all that disloyalty and discord, I have great resentment for those who wavered. But Kamala's crushing it, and shall prevail, and ultimately good shall prevail, but still. Seriously going to miss Joe, and lament for what greatness we coulda gotten in another term, if he already attained legendary status in one term. But there's work to be done, so onward to Kamala our shared victory all the same.
