🌟 🌟 BOOK REVIEW🌟 🌟 💫 The Wish marks Nicholas Sparks’ 25th anniversary as a published author- a span where he has mainly stuck to his strengths and really understood why his fans pick his books. I might not be too far off if I say that any hardcore romantic who have been part of this journey would have noticed his love for heartbreaks, a narration spanning decades and at their core, North Carolina. The Wish is Sparks returning to his roots- set in the magical Christmas time in New York City- Maggie, a successful travel photographer and vlogger, is diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma and has just few months to live. Enter Mark, a newly hired assistant to her gallery and memories of 2 decades back are relived. The story oscillates between present day Maggie retelling her past to Mark- the one accident which lead her to the only love of her life, Bryce in a remote North Carolina island- and in the process, discovering her love for photography. The author and the protagonist remind us throughout the narrative that it would be a sad end but the journey was fairly engrossing to carry me to the end. More than the romantic relationship, I felt it was bond between Aunt Linda and Maggie and the conversations between Mark and Maggie that stayed with me after the book ended. The twist towards the end was easy to guess, considering the author’s previous work, The Return, had a similar one. Maggie’s decision to push Bryce away to pursue his own dreams was actually refreshing. “But never forget that love is always stronger than fear. Love saved me, and I know it will save you, too.” Pluses and minuses aside, The Wish had a lot of moments which pull you towards the old world charm of simpler times, of VCRs, no mobile phones, of letters and Christmas cards, of developing photographs and teenage romance. A breezy 4 star read and a much needed relief from the gloomy 2021 covid times. #bookreview #bookrecommendations #thewish #nicholassparks #romanticbooks #northcarolina #newyorkcityphotography #thewishbook #bookstagram #booknerd #bookphotography #romancebookstagram #romancebookloversclub https://www.instagram.com/p/CXsjMNILCz3/?utm_medium=tumblr
