My second novel has been completed and waiting in the wings for a few years. Now, it's time for it to make its grand debut. But I'm gonna need some help. I've launched my gofundme campaign, so that I can self-publish, because let's face it, traditional publishing sticks with the same, and rarely takes chances on what's different. Any help that can be given I would so appreciate and as always you have my humble thanks for all of your kind words and support. My First Review! I know to some this may be a small milestone, but for me, this is another step in a long journey and dream that is slowly coming true. I have spoken to the person, who left the review, and the thing that is more gratifying than a sale, is the fact that they really enjoyed my novel. They loved the characters and went along for the ride that I created. I want to thank her for purchasing the book and for enjoying it so much. I also want to thank anyone, in advance, who takes their time to check it out. My novel is available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kobo and Outskirts Press. Read my short stories and blog on https://sidraowens.wordpress.com Listen to the first and second chapter of my novel on my YouTube channel, The Wicked Orchard. #ahavenamidstperdition #thewickedorchard #newnovel #newauthor #african-americanauthor #self-published #writers #fiction #stories #literaryfiction #womensfiction

For those of you who may not recognize, this is a quote from the iconic anime, Cowboy Bebop. It's long past its prime, but still wonderful. Full of excellent storytelling and memorable imagery. I do not get to watch nearly as much anime as I once did. Lack of time and increased responsibilities from my 20s to my 30s are the true culprit, but a culprit I do not regret. The thing is with as wonderful as anime is, it's a double edge sword. You can enjoy it, but often times, you can cross that line between enjoyment and deep immersion, with a fervent wish to be there and live the lives these fictional, animated live. Yes, I understand that doesn't sound rational but wishes seldom are. Truthfully, this phenomenon is not unique to me, but universal across many cultures, across many forms on entertainment. But why? Why are we so compelled to phase out of their own realities and merge into a fictitious one? My thought is that because life is do needlessly convoluted and hard. The haves dictating over the have not on a consistent basis across the planet is enough to make you want to dissolve from reality. And the solution is simple. Just be better. Treat each other fairly. Give a damn. Treat everyone like you want to be treated. If we could ALL do that, then life could be good for ALL of us, and reality would be a place where we could happily exit. Just a thought. See you later space cowboy. #anime #cowboybebop #goldenrule #lifelivedwell #livelifefearlessly #comparativereasoning #thewickedorchard #quotes #wordstoliveby #wordsofwisdom

It took me time to figure this out. Then it took me more time to fully understand it. And then even more time to find it. People are not meant to be sequestered in boxes or cubicles. To be resigned to suffer or toil needlessly. If we can all find the path that leads to our bliss, to find something that we truly enjoy, we, as a species, would be better for it. Who knows we may even treat each other better. #livelifefearlessly #findyourbliss #noodles #thewickedorchard #comparativereasoning #ahavenamidstperdition #livelifewell

-It is not our differences that xenophobes fear, but our similarities, which truly gives them pause. There are a lot of people suffering around the world, because of xenophobia. We all know that this heading breaks down into racism, sexism, homophobia and let us not forget; my religion is better than you religion. But usually the driving for behind these bigoted points of view are elitism. The thought that I'm better than you just because. I think all of this is born of man ingrained fear of death, and the fear of what comes after, that drives the few to step on the neck of the many. All in pursuit of the key to their mortality. Regardless of when we die, and regardless of what uncertainties lie there after, if we can express love and care for one another, then it will always be a life well lived. #livinglifefearlessly #lifewelllived #love #thewickedorchard #ahavenamidstperdition #comparativereasoning

In the 1940s, tv was not a common thing, especially if you were poor and black in the deep South. When you could no longer go to school, your options are limited. Even had to keep house from sun up to sun down. Her only escapes were he few remaining books, teenage curiosity and a little music in her heart. As circumstances unfold, day time curiosities become after sundown realities; teaching her that the night time is always the right time; and the consequences that follow will lead to life beginning, spirits broken and futures stolen. My debut novel, "A Haven Amidst Perdition." Available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Outskirts Press. Available in ebook and paperback.
