Book 10 of 2018. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ WOW, one of the most powerful books I’ve ever read!! ‘Mental illnesses grab you by the leg, screaming, and chow you down whole. They make you selfish. They make you irrational. They make you irrational. They make you self-absorbed. They make you needy. They make you cancel plans last minute. They make you not very fun to spend time with. They make you exhausting to be near’ ✨ #aminormalyet #aminormalyethollybourne #hollybourne @hollybourneya #nowreading #books #bookclub #bookworm #goodreads #bookstagram #instabooks #bookchallenge #ontheshelf #YA #booksofinstagram #readingchallenge #bookshelf #contemporary #youngadult #thespinsterclub (at La Palma & Teneguía Princess)

Am I Normal Yet? By Holly Bourne – Book Review
Tumblr media
“’Am I Normal Yet?’ sets a high standard for all other upcoming YA books.” – Melissa (TheMortalGirl book blog)
Holly Bourne is officially one of the UK YA queens. Having previously published two other books “Soulmates” and “The Manifesto of how to be interesting” I had high expectations for Holly’s new novel, and she didn’t let me down.
‘Am I Normal Yet?’ was everything I expected it to be and more. It was funny, realistic and honest. This novel touched on a subject that not many people are aware of. ‘Mental health’. Holly shows us reads how ‘Evie’ (our lead character and protagonist of the novel) deals with her illness, as well as college, friends and boys.
Things I like about this novel:
·         It doesn’t sugar coat mental health issues, it shows us exactly how Evie is feeling through ‘Good thought’ and ‘Bad thoughts’ throughout the novel.
·         ‘The spinster club’ (Which consists of three members, Amber, Lottie and Evie)
·         The friendship between the girls.
·         Evie deals with problems that all teenage girls have had in their lives.
·         It’s set in the UK. (Yay, I live in the UK)
·         It shows things that some teenagers might do. (E.g. Smoking.)
·         The recovery diary. (We got to see the difference in each diaries entries.)
·         Oli  <3 (Read the book and you’ll know why!)
Things I didn’t like about this novel:
·         Ethan. (Read the book and you’ll know why.)
·         Guy. (Read the book and you’ll know why.)
While reading the book I wrote down some notes about my thoughts on different parts of it, this is what I wrote.
Thought 1: Like the friendship between Lottie, Amber and Evie.
Thought 2: Ethan is a cliché Jerk boy
Thought 3: Amber I know you hate your step brother but is giving him cigarettes really the answer?
Thought 4: I like Oli’s character, he’s shy but seems sweet. Possible love interest for Evie?
Thought 5: I like that the book is touching on a subject you don’t read about a lot. There need to be more books about mental illness in YA.
Thought 6: Like the lay out of the pages and writing style.
Final thought: “Holly Bourne is a mastermind!”
I really loved reading ‘Am I Normal Yet?’ and cannot wait to read Amber and Lottie’s stories. I think everyone should read this book, it’s a real eye opener. Holly has created characters which you just can’t help but fall in love with, I wish I was Evie, Lottie and Amber’s friend. I want to be part of ‘The Spinster Club’.
I do have one big question though, “Did Oli reply to Evie’s text?”
Will we find out if he did text back in Amber’s book? (Which is the next book being released in the companion book Trilogy by Holly.)
I hope we do. I think Evie and Oli would be cute together, and even if they don’t get together, they could be good friends.
I’m giving ‘Am I Normal Yet?’ 5 stars! And I highly recommend it! Every go read it! #ReadAmINormalYet?
