Gender Headcannon: cisgender

Ship w/ Character: Revalink, shocker, I know! They bring me so much comfort and pain and bliss and agony. I love how, together, they are forced to confront the traits that hold them back the most- how Revali’s blunt honesty really bats heads with the restraint that Link holds over his (lack of) personal opinion, how Link’s fated role highlights Revali’s insecurities surrounding his own usefulness and self worth, how, through these things and each other, they are able to slowly mend their cracks. They complement each other’s character in such an interesting way that allows room for so much nuance beyond simply ‘I cannot stand the sight of you.’ I also love myself some good old enemies to lovers, so I’m totally not biased. This ship really got me into appreciating bittersweet endings and the not-so-happily ever afters. (also… My guilty pleasure is flustered Revali. I will take every opportunity I have to make him panic on the spot and question his romantic choices. He keeps wondering where he went wrong.)

BROTP: I’ve already mentioned my love for Miphvali brotp in Mipha’s ask, so for this one I’ll talk about a pretty rare one I think: Harth. I’d like the think (in the situation that Revali does meet Harth) they would bond over bowcraft, and almost work as partners in a way through of it. Revali’s past exprience, with making his own, and multiple other, bows allowed him to form an appreciation for the visual aesthetic in the craft, a style completely different from modern Rito designs. Him and Harth would share drafts with one another, each finding ways to elevate the other through the combination of the two eras, creating designs that manage to transcend their time. While working in their now shared studio, Harth would inevitably be subject to Revali’s rantings about a whole bunch of things- about training Tulin at the range, or the progress of their latest bow, or maybe even a certain hylian (in the case of the latter, Harth would supply a level stare and say nothing, only giving him a look. This would shut Revali up very quickly.)

NOTP: Teba, Kass, etc, any of the adult rito npcs- gives me the ick. I’d see them more as older mentors (or in Teba’s case, a mentee), since I see Revali as being in a similar age group to Zelda/Link/Mipha. 

Random Headcannon: He loves to garden and tending to flowers but absolutely refuses to tell anyone, save Zelda, who shares his interest (though for different reasons; she likes to study their growth and use, while Revali finds simple pleasure in cultivating something through his own dedication and care). Vah Medoh’s surface was once an array of freshly bloomed flowers, sprinkled with buds on the verge of blossom. Whenever Zelda visits to study the Divine Beast, she always takes a few moments to walk along Medoh’s colorful wingspan, kneeling to feel the newly sprouted petals. Revali preens at the appreciation the princess holds for the aerial garden, that fact that each flower is chosen with careful consideration to ensure it would survive in such high altitudes not missed by her. 

General Opinion: I like him a totally normal amount :) *says this while visibly shaking*

The Warners and Angelina the First

sooooooo- somebody asked me how i thought Angelina the First (my version) and the Warners would get along in my little au of Wakko’s Wish. However, I do have her dead before Angelina the Second and William are even married (her death is the reason why they’re allowed to get married, after all), but it did get me thinking about an AU of sorts- an AU in an AU if you will. 

For the moment I’ll just be referring it as the “Angelina the First Lives AU” (not to be confused with @madelynartz ‘s Angelina Lives AU). If anyone comes up with a better idea, I’ll update the post with a better title, but for now the hour is late and my brain is very full of angsty and over the top dramatic ideas I must release onto the public. 

For simplicities sake, I’ll be reffering to them as Angelina 1, Lena, and Dot

Before I start though, I must thank @madelynartz and @imbeccablee bc they helped bounce off ideas and stuff so yeah ^^

Trigger warning for a lot, a lot of abuse

So the way this would work is if Angelina 1 never got ill, and as the likelihood of Lena being forced to marry a suitor was growing stronger and stronger, her and William decided to elope so that wouldn’t happen. 

The conversation went something like “boom, divorce is forbidden for royals, I’m no longer ‘pure’ by your and societies stupid standards, and I’m already with child- suck it mom”

As you can imagine, Angelina 1 didn’t take that well, and was outraged, abuses the frick out of her, and locks Lena away for at least a month (William joins her later)

Lena and William did genuinely consider running away several times, but Lena knew she was too recognizable, and a bounty would be placed for her safe return, but not William’s and he’d be more likely to be killed if they escaped than if they stayed- plus, being pregnant and running away is hard

Eventually Yakko was born, and Angelina 1 made it clear that she would be an influence and figure in his life, and that Lena and William had no say in the matter, or else.

So William and Lena did their best to teach him morals and how to be a decent person and never leave him alone, before Angelina 1 would swoop in and teach him what she thought made a good king

“A good isn’t so emotional” “A good king puts his people above all else” “A good king listens to and respects his elders”

For awhile, he didn’t know whether or not all of her advice and wisdom was good or bad, as it didn’t sound wrong to his impressionable ears

Yakko didn’t exactly like Angelina 1 per se, but since she was family, and he was taught to at least show common decency to people- even those he disliked- he did listen and never got mad at her 

“Good- at least you’re a little bit smarter than your mother already”

Angelina 1 couldn’t have cared less when Wakko was born- however his “feral”ness and his clinginess to Yakko often got in the way of her “lessons”

One time, when Wakko was four, he got upset and raised his voice a little bit to talk over her, and she smacked him across the room

Yakko was furious, and bit Angelina 1 in anger and protectiveness over his little brother

This also forced Yakko to realize how awful his grandmother was, and how he was becoming a bad person, and after that he never gave her advice a chance ever again

Lena nearly went feral and full on attacked her mother when she heard that she hit Wakko, and William had to physically restrain her from going to kill her mother (not because he didn’t also want to kill her, but because he knew it was treason, and that Lena would have to be killed too)

Howevere, despite the fact that he fricken bit her, Angelina 1 doesn’t stop trying to shape Yakko into what she wants, and she just got crueler and more forceful with her lessons (however, they’re much less effective bc Yakko knows how much she sucks and refuses to listen and instead just sasses and “smart asses” her (like with Ms. Flamiel in canon)

She does try isolating him away from the rest of his family, but that never works, as he always found a way to escape and William would then protect him and make sure he made it out of his lessons alright (he is a knight after all)

Again, Angelina 1 didn’t really care when Dot was born, focusing her energy on trying to make Yakko listen to her by any means possible

Though she would refuse to call her Dot and would only call her Angelina 3, which Dot and Lena would loathe

I’m not quite sure what Angelina 1 would think of Dot outside of that, but I do imagine her trying to make her a proper lady, but Dot is very similar to her mother and has her infamous wit, and so she wouldn’t get far

However, Angelina 1 probably continued to try anyway, constantly pulling her away from playing with her brothers and giving her lessons in manners, which would irritate Lena and she and her mother would have long arguments about Dot which wouldn’t end pretty

At the end of the day though, they did have each other, and when Angelina 1 wasn’t around, they’d spend time together as a family, and the kids would often pretend they were over throwing the evil queen (which Angelina and William made sure they weren’t actually going to do- but didn’t discourage them from imagining-)

I’m not sure whether or not the assassination/attack on Warnerstock Castle would happen in this au, or whether or not Angelina 1 would die in that or if William and Lena would be the only ones to die in such attack, so I’m taking suggestions on that

My thoughts on if only their parents die, then the Warner sibs would be placed soley under their grandmother’s care and the protection they had with their parents would evaporate, and Yakko, Wakko and Dot would need to think of an escape plan bc they probs wouldn’t last long (sanely speaking) if they stayed. 

If Angelina 1 also dies, then Wakko’s Wish continues on like normal, with added childhood trauma for fun

So... yeah

I probably left things out, but these are my main thoughts. I might add more, who knows.

Broadchurch: The Short Story Collections Volume 2  Available over here This second volume contains another four short stories, also ostensibly intended 1 per episode, but they take place at very different times. I read them interspersed, (watch ep 5, read first story, watch ep 6, read etc), but it might be fun to read them in an actual chronological order during a re-watch.

1- “Protection”, Sharon Bishop (Joe Miller’s Lawyer), During the S2 trial, specifically the night following episode 5. Serious, heavy, dramatic insight into her character over the course of a terribly busy evening that includes a dinner invite with Jocelyn and the judge, and her romantic partner surprising her at The Trader’s. Plus lots and lots of phone calls. Very interesting.

2- “One More Secret”, Beth, halfway through episode 6, this starts the evening after Tom’s testimony, and continues about 24-36 hours. Insight on Beth, how she’s coping (and Chloe), how she reacts to learning Mark’s “last secret”, that he was gonna leave her... oh, and discussion on her relationship with Ellie.

3- “The Leaving of Claire Ripley”, Claire (who would eventually marry Lee Ashworth), 10ish years before S1 maybe? This is The story of who she was before him, a relationship she got into, what she thought she wanted, and how it all went sideways, eventually forcing her to run from consequences for the first time. Basically, how she ends up in the right town/place to meet Lee, and get embroiled in the Sandbrook mess... and without any support network but him. Very interesting, totally unexpected. 

4- “Thirteen Hours”, Alec Hardy, pre Series 1, specifically, One Day before Series 1. Insight on Alec, before he meets Ellie, how he’s balancing Claire, his illness, and secrecy, in the new town, in the new job. Hint: Barely. 13 hours from his life, probably 20 hours before Danny would die. Basically, the last “normal” day before Danny’s body is found and all goes to shit. Poor Sucker.

I’ve included summaries, my notes, excerpts, reactions, and other Things Of Interest under the readmore. Again, these story volumes are interesting, short, and worth the read for me!

1. Sharon bishop- during trial Before episode... 4? What morning is it she drives to see her kid? Ah, she pulls the all-night drive and sees her kid in prison in EP 3, so this takes place the night after that day in court. No, wait, after he's beaten up, so, maybe after ep 5? About to head home from the trial. Gets a phone call from her... Partner? Boyfriend? "Darroll". Not Jonah's dad, I don't think. She gets asked to dinner with Jocelyn and the judge Oh fuck, he shows up at The Trader’s when she specifically told him not to. She forgets to change, and bails out of there back for the judge’s place. Still making phonecalls about Jonah bearing beaten up. God she’s stressed. I can practically feel the anxiety and nausea drip off the page. Man, her POV on Jocelyn is cruel. Specifically, that Jocelyn is perfect and privileged, and never missed/misses an opportunity to put her down.   Man, Sharon fucking hates her. The judge makes a comment about Sharon being judge material in a few years, if she's interested, perfectly polite and congenial. Sharon turns it down, privately thinking that she likes the fight too much. Judge says she didn't think it was for her, either, until she suddenly found herself the first Asian woman. And even then, her dad was still disappointed. The whole conversation makes Sharon furious and resentful, of these smug women, their perceived privilege in comparison to her, the way she had to fight to build the ladder she climbed, the way she was never even expected to take A-levels, the way she had Jonah on a great track and it was "his kindness" that got him incarcerated and stuck on the "lowest rung" you can start on. "Sonia refills the glass; Jocelyn puts a hand over hers. ‘You must’ve had offers for the bench,’ Sonia says to Jocelyn, filling a new glass with sparkling water. Jocelyn’s eyes crinkle. ‘Too many other interests I would’ve had to give up.’ Sharon nearly chokes on her salmon. Jocelyn doesn’t have interests. She’s just trying to convince everyone – including herself – that her life has had any kind of meaning since she gave up work. Sharon makes a little coughing noise and Jocelyn looks at her sharply before turning back to Sonia. ‘I’m not good at impartial,’ she says, with a little shrug of false modesty." See, we know that Jocelyn quit because she was going blind. We know that she is regretful of the life, the love she felt she wasted. No way is she out (sexuality-wise), or I think Sharon might not be as furious with her privilege. Which, like, she definitely has, but Sharon is so tired and furious right now, she's equivocating the economic privilege Jocelyn undoubtedly has with "never having had to struggle or sacrifice for your job". We of course know and are sympathetic to how Hard Jocelyn had to work, probably one of the first women in her county/area to do what she did Every Time she did it. And we are sympathetic to the fact that she did that all while remaining closeted, and how miserable and hard that must have been... But Sharon doesn’t know some of that, and she’s too furious at the system, at economic privilege... and honestly, at herself, for having chosen to work so hard she missed things with her son. maybe things that led to this situation. Which she absolutely is blaming on the system, and not at all on anything else.   And they have such bitterness between them, Jocelyn probs had been a little jealous, a little "oh yeah, wear your wound on your sleeve, get everyone to cry for you", secretly angry that she never "was brave" enough to come out. At least her protege never had to lie, could be honest about who and what she was. There is a lot of shit between them on the subject of race and gender and privilege and stuff (Jocelyn did specifically mention that the decision to take Sharon on as a protege was partly a diversity hire, to “get more women”. Sharon is furious at that comment. I don’t know enough about race relations in the UK to know how contentious the fact that Sharon’s black would be... but considering the judge is also non-white, and Sharon is furious with her too, it’s clear the primary contention is money, even if race is a casual condition). And pride. I totally believe (agree with Jocelyn’s assertion) that Sharon has an issue taking blame. It must always be someone else's fault. And she doesn't care about morality a bit. She says to herself it's because justice didn't work for her kid, but I get the vibe from Jocelyn that that shit was in place long, long before. "Now they’re getting closer, thinks Sharon. ‘Not good at impartial’ is nothing but a euphemism for the fact that Jocelyn Knight is a dyed-in-the-wool prosecutor, although being her, she’s got to dress it up as a higher calling. She likes the chase, that’s what it boils down to. She might as well come into court dressed in a bearskin dress and wave a spear about. But Sharon knows that working for the Crown makes Jocelyn feel good because she can always tell herself she’s fighting the good fight. She believes her own lies, and that’s what makes her so good at her job. Defence, now that’s where the real fight is. You’ve got to have balls to speak for a defendant, run the risk they might be guilty. To take all the shit from the press and public that comes with it. 

“‘You do have to bite your tongue,’ Sonia admits. ‘Mind you, when I say something, people really bloody listen.’ Now that, Sharon likes the sound of. Instant respect. The kind she thinks Sonia and Jocelyn must take for granted. ‘Speaking of which, there’s something I need to say. Off the record. Because if this was official, we’d be in court, and you’d both be in the shit.’ Without raising her voice by a decibel, Sonia has managed to change her tone; if anything it’s smoother and calmer than before, and that’s more chilling than an angry rant. Sharon feels the blood banging in her cheeks and doesn’t risk looking at Jocelyn. ‘I heard your yelling halfway across the building, earlier,’ continues Sonia. ‘I’m presuming, since it hasn’t appeared on the Broadchurch Echo Twitter feed, that members of the press and public didn’t hear it, but that’s no thanks to either of you.’ 

“Caught red-handed; this morning’s angry words ring in Sharon’s ears and a schoolgirl shame burns like acid in her gullet. What could this mean for the case? For her career? Sharon is rarely lost for words but she can’t begin to talk her way out of this one. She feels like the walls of a maze are clanging down around her. Sonia’s still talking as the phone in Sharon’s pocket begins to vibrate. Without looking she knows it’s the prison governor. The call that will keep Jonah safe tonight is coming through now. Answer it, screams her conscience. Sonia’s voice is a burble in the background. Answer it. The twenty-year conflict between Sharon’s motherhood and her career feels condensed into these few seconds. Her skin feels too tight all over. She puts one hand in her pocket as if her fingertips could send the message for her: wait for me. Just give me one more minute. Sharon’s instincts tell her that even to break eye contact with Sonia Sharma right now would be professional suicide, never mind taking a phone call. The phone doesn’t ring for long: four, maybe five rings, before the caller hangs up. Sonia’s words come back into focus. 

“‘I told you both at the start: professionalism and dignity,’ she says, still more head girl than headmistress. ‘Keep your personal rows out of this case or it’ll be a full-scale public bollocking. Got it?’ Sharon nods as she absorbs the gist: she’s got away with it, in the broadest sense. Where she ought to feel relief there is only a crashing sense of failure and loss. In the ensuing silence, she can hear the food she’s chewing turn over in her mouth, but she can’t swallow it. She’s just about to push back her chair when Sonia comes in with what she clearly thinks is an ice-breaker. 

“‘So, you were her pupil?’ It’s a loaded question and Jocelyn doesn’t give Sharon a chance to answer. ‘I found her and brought her onto a scheme I was running to bring more women into the law. Particularly from underprivileged backgrounds.’ 

“Sharon explodes; too late, she sees the crumbs fly everywhere. ‘I was at Oxford by this point! She tells it like she pulled me out of the gutter.’ ‘She was the best I ever had. On course to be my Head of Chambers, if she’d stayed.’ It’s a reverse flip in the conversation. Sharon is so stunned that for a few seconds she forgets about the missed call. This is the first praise she’s ever had from Jocelyn Knight. She had always presumed the admiration flowed in one direction. Jocelyn let her go without a fight. 

“Resentment boils inside her and she doesn’t trust herself not to come back with sarcasm or worse. Sonia’s seen her with the gloves off now and it cannot happen again. She excuses herself to use the bathroom – beautiful, hand-painted tiles, organic handwash, only the best for the judge’s residence – and she splashes water on her face, tells herself in the mirror to get a grip. She dials her voicemail with shaking hands. There’s a message, not from the governor but from his assistant, saying that they’re waiting for her to return their call. Sod etiquette, Sonia and Jocelyn can amuse themselves for a few minutes: Sharon hits redial but she is locked out by the engaged tone. She waits one minute, then tries again. She repeats this three times with the same result. She weighs up her options – hide in the toilet for god knows how long, or make her excuses and leave? It’s an easy decision. 

“Back in the dining room, she realises there will be no need for excuses; the evening is already being wrapped up. ‘Thanks for a lovely supper,’ says Jocelyn, folding her napkin and getting to her feet. ‘But I should be getting back.’ Sonia leads her guests into the hallway. ‘No rest for the wicked.’ She nods through an open doorway to a study where case files are piled high on a table. They will all be working through the night. 

“Back in the car, Sharon sets her phone to hands-free and hits redial repeatedly. She is on the dual carriageway that leads into Broadchurch when at last the line is free. Hope spikes then crashes with each unanswered ring. There is nobody there. She’s missed her window. And she doesn’t know where Jonah is sleeping tonight. Reality is a punch in Sharon’s guts. She can’t save Jonah. She’s trying to remote-control his life, when the brutal truth is that it’s been out of her control, and his, since he found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong colour skin. The injustice of it burns. The miles between Sharon and Jonah seem to stretch out and then snap. The road swims before her, lights blurring to amber tadpoles against the black. Sharon pulls into a lay-by and bawls until her throat is sore and her eyes are gritty." Her partner is still at the hotel when she gets there, and I thought this section was particularly beautiful: "‘Oh, babe,’ and that’s all Darroll has to say. He places his knuckle on the point between her shoulder blades, the heart of the knot. He knows where her body keeps its secrets, and with his touch, she is undone. Afterwards, she waits until he has fallen asleep, as good as drugged. In these stolen hours the Traders hotel is as silent as it gets. No phones ring. Not a floorboard creaks, not a toilet flushes. There is only Darroll, the gentle rolling snore of him. Sharon is wired. Only four hours’ sleep in two days but she can’t remember feeling more awake. Darroll’s soothing effect is only temporary. It rushes through a drain and is replaced by thoughts of Jonah, his beaten-up face and a circle of thugs closing in on him." She gets up and back to research the appeal for Jonah's case. (God, she's working so hard there, so distracted from the Miller stuff, it really is a mark of how fucked the Broadchurch investigation was, or how ruthless and rule-break-y Sharon is, that her side ends up winning) "She has a career's worth of favors to call in, and she isn't too proud to do it." Determined as fuck, and unwilling to not succeed. Heck of a character. . 2. One more secret- Beth- during trial, partway through episode 6 (where Tom lies on the stand in Joe's defence), I think after Tom's testimony, that night, before Mark's She gets home, longest she's been away from Lizzie. "‘Where are my girls?’ she calls while her key’s still in the door. Chloe emerges from the sitting room, a puke-stained muslin cloth draped over each shoulder. Chloe’s dropped out of college but she can’t get a job until the trial’s over because Beth needs her for the childcare. If Beth can’t be with Lizzie, then it’ll have to be someone else who loves her. The baby needs to be with her own blood. The time spent with the baby seems to be helping Chloe, too. It’s taken her mind off her own problems; the spoiled GCSEs, losing her nan, and the break-up with Dean (who left Dorset for the chance to shear sheep in New Zealand, only telling Chloe the evening before his flight. Beth still can’t think about him without her hands balling into fists)." She has a meeting with a social worker who has come to check on her mental health, and she gets pissed and storms off, only realizing later than that that might have tipped them to the balance of thinking she's not a fit mother. She starts to think about the checklist they gave her and how to throw it so the social decide she's fit  enough, not too depressed, to take care of her kid. Next morning is the Mark’s testimony. Where she learns that there's one last secret between them after all, the mystery of the unaccounted for hour in which he drove around, and then wrote her a letter saying he was leaving her. "And then suddenly there is someone at her side. Ellie is there, dropping to her knees. Their faces are level and Beth has been brought so low she will take comfort anywhere, even here. She collapses against her old friend. ‘It’s not Mark,’ says Ellie. Her eyes shine with tears that reflect Beth’s own. ‘It’s Joe, doing this to us.’ 

“‘Mark was going to…’ Beth can’t get the rest of it out. She lets Ellie cry with her and it feels so good, for the first time in ages, to lean on someone the same size as her. They stay locked like that. After a few minutes, they stop crying, pull apart and look at each other. There’s a strange, almost post-coital awkwardness in the air; for all the intimacy of their embrace, they’re still essentially estranged, both unsure how heavily they can tread. 

“‘I’m so sorry about Tom,’ says Ellie. ‘He still doesn’t believe Joe did it.’ ‘Oh, God, no, I get it. Danny would’ve done the same.’ Saying his name changes the mood again; it brings them past embarrassment and into the hugeness of what has happened between them. Ellie meets Beth’s gaze head-on, still offering that unflinching apology and Beth understands, suddenly, that she will keep saying sorry for ever if that’s what it takes.”

[Oh god, she really would, wouldn’t she]

“Something inside her wants to draw back but there’s something stronger – a need to be understood, or perhaps the green shoots of forgiveness – that keeps her in the moment. ‘I didn’t know,’ she says. ‘About the letter.’ Ellie pulls a face. ‘I gathered that.’ Beth puts her chin on her knees and sighs deep. ‘You must want to beat the crap out of him.’ 

“‘I do, but it’s not just that.’ Beth hugs her knees tighter. ‘I’ve got this social worker on my back making me fill out this questionnaire to see if I’m going to top myself. As if I would, with Chloe and a new baby needing me. I’m like, don’t you think I’ve got enough shit to deal with without racing back from court to talk about my wellbeing?’ Ellie winces. Beth didn’t mean to throw a barb at her, but there’s no way around it. They can’t pussyfoot around this case, and if mentioning it hurts Ellie, well, that’s the way it’s got to be. Beth leans back against the cool wall of the stairwell. 

“‘If I’m not depressed already then that’ll just tip me over the edge,’ she mutters, more for her own benefit than Ellie’s. ‘Stupid cow with her stupid drawn-on eyebrows.’ ‘Patricia Kennedy?’ Ellie wiggles her own eyebrows, but nervously, like she’s afraid to acknowledge the joke. ‘I’ve come across her before. She’s all right. She’ll only be worried about you.’ ‘Yeah, well, I feel persecuted. And I worry that they’ll … do something. Take her away from me.’ It’s the first time she’s said it out loud. ‘Why would they do that?’ says Ellie. 

“‘Look at me,’ says Beth. ‘I can’t even look after myself.’ ‘Bollocks, you’re doing a brilliant job,’ says Ellie, in her old, no-nonsense way and it’s more reassuring than any platitude. Conversation grows louder in the atrium and the court doors start to swish open. Ellie gets to her feet. 

“‘I need to find Tom,’ says Ellie. Her teeth are clenched in a grim determination that Beth recognises from their old lives. Tom’s in for the bollocking of his life. Beth watches her straighten up, and only when she sees her at her full height does she realise Ellie’s been stooping since this all kicked off. Ellie puts out her right hand, and for a moment Beth thinks she’s offering a formal handshake and the indignation surges again. Then, as Ellie’s set face begins to wobble, she realises she’s offering to pull her up to standing. Beth hesitates for a second but finds she doesn’t have it in her to snub the offer. Ellie’s hand is cold in hers, but her grip is tight. I’ve got you, it seems to say. The raw intimacy of it is too much, and Beth drops her hand as soon as she’s on her feet. It’s exhausting: the smallest gesture is so loaded.”

[Oh I ache for you two.]

“ ‘Right, then,’ she says, testing her legs. They seem to be holding her up. ‘I’m going back in, see what else Mark’s got to say.’ ‘You sure you’re up to that?’ asks Ellie, tilting her head to one side. ‘No,’ says Beth. Their smiles are tentative, feelers in the dark. But they don’t hug. It feels too soon for that." oh you poor girls.

She gets back home after kicking mark to the curb, only to find the bloody social worker waiting for her. Only...

"‘Just give it to me, then,’ says Beth, sitting opposite Patricia. ‘Give me the bloody questionnaire.’ Patricia smiles softly. ‘All in good time. Look, I’m sorry if I was insensitive, barging in on your trial time. We’ll work around you from now on.’ Beth brightens. ‘You mean you’ll discharge me?’ 

“‘No,’ says Patricia. ‘I still want to keep an eye on you. Not because I think you’re going to harm Lizzie, but because you are vulnerable, even if you don’t want to admit it. But I won’t come and see you every day while the trial’s ongoing. What I’ll do is check in every few days, and give you my mobile number. If you feel you’re not coping, there are options. Don’t be stubborn.’ 

“‘I’m not stubborn.’ Patricia raises her magnificent eyebrows and Beth finds a genuine laugh. ‘How come you changed your mind, then?’ she asks. Patricia closes the file on her lap and looks Beth in the eye. 

“ ‘I had a call from a colleague who helped me see things from your perspective,’ she says. ‘Helen?’ ‘No,’ says Patricia. ‘Someone I worked with a while back.’ She starts to pack up her bag, putting her various sheaves of paperwork into compartments. On her way out of the door she turns and looks over your shoulder. ‘I won’t patronise you by pretending I understand what you’re going through,’ she says. ‘But you know, you’re not as alone as you think you are.’ Beth thinks she means because of Lizzie, and holds her tighter than ever. It’s only after Patricia has driven off that she realises who the old colleague was, and that she wasn’t talking about her daughter after all." And then, to conclude the chapter, "Without meaning to, she turns slowly in a half-circle to Ellie’s house. The light in the top bedroom is on and two figures move around inside. Tom is home. Jealousy swoops in, and Beth is too bitter to be happy for Ellie. That thought pulls her back to this afternoon at court, Ellie’s outstretched hand and how good it felt to take it. Beth fights the softening inside her. How can she accept friendship again? How can she trust? To survive the next twelve hours, the next few weeks, the rest of her life, she has to keep a force-field, like a shell, around herself and all her children. She turns her head away from Ellie’s house and looks up. The star that was shining so bright above her twinkles once, then disappears behind a cloud." Ugh, it's all so rough. I wanna wrap everybody in a soft blanket, Ellie, Beth, Alec, all the children, Maggie and Jocelyn, even mean Sharon and her poor kid. Wrap them up safe (and keep them out of the way while I off Joe Miller). . 3. The leaving of Claire Ripley- preseries, by a lot Takes place before claire and her husband meet. she's thirty or so, living with her grandma, more or less happy. In the town she was born in. Her friends are all getting married and having families-- she hasn't found the kind of man she wants to settle down with yet. She's looking for something more exciting than that. 

She ends up dating a fellow who's kind of a small-time ecstasy dealer, but as she is more more successful at her salon and gets promoted, it makes him feel insecure. 

One night he's selling more pills than normal, and she realizes that it's a cheap bad batch, gonna really hurt people, panics about how close she's been to the whole thing, ditches his pills, and runs away. For that, his family / employers put her grandma in the hospital. And tell her she has to leave town or else they'll do it again. 

She tells her Grandma she's leaving, and her grandma gives her that pendant, the pendant she had been saving for her birthday. Claire thinks to herself that she's going to love that pendant out of both punishment and hope, and maybe one day give it to daughter of her own. Someone who really deserves it [again, reinforcing that she did care about Pippa, as much as she was able to care about anyone]. 

She finds that there's a woman selling a hair salon in Mercia, and she has just enough to buy that out of her savings from working salon in town, so she does, and she runs. 

a week later she's on a plastic mattress, having forgotten to buy bedding, above the shop she now owns, bitterly ruing the day that she got in with the fella she got in with, and dreaming of a man she hasn't met yet. A strong man, an honest man, a man who works with his hands, a man muscular enough and sturdy enough to carry her upstairs throw her in bed and love her like she wants to be loved. Short, but kind of a wild ride. . 4. Thirteen hours- Alex Hardy- 17 July 2013 The day before Ellie gets back from vacation. (Or, comes back to work). The day before Danny is killed. Fuk. Hardy wakes at the traders, he's been there ten days. He takes his meds to settle his heart. "Hardy looks out over Broadchurch. Those huge cliffs everyone keeps telling him to go and look at glow amber in the distance; the sea is the same pale blue. He doesn’t like horizons. They make him feel agoraphobic, like nothing’s got edges, like everything could spill everywhere. “Now that the seagull’s gone, it’s too quiet. There is no noise apart from the chink and ting of breakfast things being laid out downstairs. You get the wrong kind of noise in the countryside. Hardy thrives on the white noise of the built environment, the comforting rumble of an A-road in the distance. He salivates at the thought of the hotel’s eggs Benedict but knows he should eat the wholegrain cereal in the dispenser, even though he’ll be charged the same price. What a waste, and a waste of police money, too. But that’s all to the good; it’s his own money he should be worrying about. Between the maintenance he pays Tess and Daisy and his other, secret expenses, he’s sliding into the red. Time now is measured in pounds and pennies as well as hours and days. “How much money he'll spend, how many nights he'll sleep in the traders..." It all depends on how quickly he can break Claire Ripley. This short story lays out the situation. Lays out his arrangement with Claire, it lays out the fact that he's doing this to punish himself and to solve the case and he doesn't feel like he can go home until he has done that. Much in the same way that, in the first collection of short stories, Ellie realized she couldn't go home to her actual house in Broadchurch without Tom, without Joe's case being done. The references to his physical state are just... He's drowning. It's so jarring after watching him halfway healthy at the end of series 2 finale. "Alec Hardy's heart skips a beat it can't afford to miss." "He's maybe half a mile from Claire's house, but the walk would ruin him for the rest of the day, and he needs the driver to get them back to Broadchurch." Something strange happened with Claire's phone, and now he's late to his shift, risking the only thing he has left, his career. "Someone behind them sounds their horn... Jolting him from anxiety into panic, and he has one of those micro crisis that happens two or three times a day now. He hasn't got time for this. What the hell is he doing? he was so sure this setup was the only way to save his sanity, but he now realizes it's just as likely to destroy it. it has put his career on the line again, and God knows his career is all he has left, now." Turns out, not that she admits to it but he puts together the pieces from observing, that Claire had herself a little tantrum and threw her phone and broke it. He's a little bit pleased by this, because it's the opportunity he needs to be able to get her a phone that he's paying for that he can monitor, under the guise of it being safer and more secure. he talks about the fact that she is suspicious, and he knows she's holding something back, that she is never the same person twice when he comes by, vacillating between very young, innocent, flirty, pouty, angry, blank.... He told her he'll be back by lunchtime with a new phone for her. " 'I've got to go, I do have another job apart from you.' “Claire nods, and Hardy wonders if she realizes just how loaded that statement is. Does she realize that she has the power to land him in the shit? Does she know what a huge transgression he has made? what he's doing is not a secret you could dump on anyone, not even your most trusted colleague. And D I Alec Hardy has no mates in Broadchurch nick." Then he heads back to the office. (there is a newspaper clipping up in the kitchen at the office, the headline is something like "copper run's 10K for charity", and it's Ellie dressed as a Bee doing a 10km fun run. just FYI. This is a thing that happened.)

Basically the whole story is just one shit-ass day in Hardy's life. His prescription runs out and he has to get a renewal, and ends up having to go pretty far abroad to get that renewal, Claire leaves the house to go get a phone herself and he catches wind when he goes to buy her a new phone and the guy mentions that someone have been there trying to do the same thing. Basically it just involves him traveling the city, fielding phone calls from one of the other detectives about some boys who stole some charity shop tins. He ends up successfully solving the case, nearly dying because of missing his medication, and ends the story worried that his boss is on to him already, that Claire will not behave right, and that today heralds Bad Things for his time in Broadchurch. 

But he convinces himself today is just a blip, tomorrow they will charge some hoodlums with stealing Charity money from shops, and nothing more dramatic could possibly happen unless things get real violent at the egg and spoon race at field day at the school. He's exhausted, but he knows everything else to be done can be put off till tomorrow. Tomorrow will be better.. Oh you poor bastard.

hello, hope you're having a good day. can i get any advice on how to fit a part time job (which is like a 7 hour shift) while taking a semester worth of 18 credit hours? that's honestly a heavy course load, where 3 of the courses I'm taking are labs and the rest are theory. not to brag but my gpa is currently excellent and I want to keep it that way, but I'm also financially going downhill and I won't have enough time to study the way I used to before if I go for the job :/

First off all I’m happy for you and that you get good grades I don’t think it’s bragging !

I just assume that you study engineering in the US ( for everybody else I got a second message telling me the major ) ? As I’m from Germany I don’t know how many credit point you need for your undergrad/ Bachelor / whatever but I might tell you about my experiences first off all.

In Germany we need 180 cp to get the bachelor degree and I’m taking 24cp this semester ( I still have to take the exams ) That’s one class fewer than recommended /4 instead of 5 ) to get your degree in 3 years. But I don’t even try that. I will graduate in 7 or 8 semesters. I have to pay 300 Euros per year for the university. That’s it so it’s no big deal to me but I know in some countries education is extremely expensive. Next semester I work two jobs, this semester only one. My schedule is so structured that I have one complete day off from classes. On this day I go to the research center ( It belongs to the university ) and do my work at the lab. I wake up at 6.30am start working at 7.30 and go home at 2pm. After work I still have energy and time to study since I can work at my own peace and got no one who tells me what I need to do. I’m also allowed to (almost) not work at all through exam season since my boss once studied engineering herself and understands my lack of time. BUT I started with a 20h work per month contract to have enough time for studying so I usually leave work at 12.30am. I have still a lot of time for homework etc. I can only recommend to work at university/ research centers. The second job is giving tuition on campus. it’s right before or after my regular class so I don’t lose much study time. These kind of jobs are usually extremely well paid. You have to physically work 9h per month + answering emails and get paid for 30h.

I was really afraid that I won’t be able to work and to study. I wanted to do ta uition job earlier but you need extremely good grades so the university staff will ask you to work for them. Tbh I’m just average in regard of marks.

So after unnecessary stuff about myself (I’m sorry but I want to explain that I’m still human and need plenty of time to study like a lot of other people too). I have no magic formula but invest your time wisely. Search for the job that is best paid for the workload you do. In Germany it’s a thing to already work in companies that do engineering stuff as a student so you actually learn something while working and you already have work experience to show off. Sometimes they even hire you right away after you graduated because they already know you and your work so they don’t mind at all if you took longer to get your degree. I don’t know if it’s possible to you to take fewer classes aka graduating later but your education should stay your priority.  

Search for a job that gives you enough flexibility to adjust working to your schedule,

Try to be realistic but determined. It’s not about the amount of hours you study but how effectively you use them

To be honest : I wouldn’t work as a waitress. All my respect to you guys but this job is stressful and you sometimes have to work unexpected bc your coworker is ill.. It’s a freaking hard job and I probs wouldn’t be able to study that much if I had a job where people count on me like that. so

be picky ( if you have the possibility to be so). If you already feel like you sacrifice your education that job has to be freaking good )

Maybe I should make a more structured post about that soon with actual tips but I don’t want to let you wait even tho I’m done after a 9h marathon at the library.

here’s my post for today

i went to a yoga class tonight in santa clara and it was the yogi’s first time and she was so good omg!

not quite as good as my fave instructor of all time (the bae lauren at moxie yoga in sf)

but yeah kimberly at corepower santa clara square might make me a regular!

(which honestly is super great because i went to class with norma and it was awful LOL)  (she played like hardcore edm at a chill class??) (to be fair it was also a level 2 class and i was struggling a little and kimberly’s class was a level 1....)

(oh i went to whole foods in the same plaza right after and ngl im starting to really enjoy just physically being in those fancy ass supermarkets.  i went to a new to me nob hill after orangetheory surprisingly also in santa clara ----theyre just nice and clean and beautiful.  however spending $45 to get way less stuff than a 99 ranch or something still feels way wrong.  i got bananas cashew milk chia seed refill 18 brown eggs (anthony likes the brown ones idk) natural deodorant (cause native has been sucking hard) ginger tofu mushrooms orange juice fancy sprouted bread shredded cheese actually ok when i list that all out its a decent amount for whole foods.  the stuff is just smaller yknow like the presliced white mushrooms were $1 for easily like 3 or so oz less)

anyway i find this funny because when i started dating anthony in 2015 he would go to nob hill markets and always claim it was his favorite market (because the chicken he would buy from there would never go bad etc).  i thought he was like idk rich af -- to be fair he went to stanford 2x and has his masters and is 2 years older so yeah he is definitely more privileged than me.  like i didnt have a preference for cage free brown eggs like i never had the money to spend the extra $1 or 2 on that shit when i was slaving at starbucks AND a second office job.

its really weird how money changes your life.  its 2019 and i finally hit the 100k 6 figure mark.  it’s honestly been a STRUGGLE to get here, but i’ve learned a lot along the way -- primarily that you HAVE to negotiate and generally just get paid more to improve your life.  anyway yeah money doesn’t solve problems but it generally reduces  your mental calories and makes things way more convenient.

before when i was poorer, i would have to go out of my way to make sure i was getting the cheapest shell gasoline in the area (still gotta have standards and not give into that arco bullshit).  i would never go into whole foods or places like that because my dollar had to stretch further.  whenever i would go out with friends before i’d have to be SUPER mindful of what i ordered and i would be EXTRA annoyed when you go out in a group and when splitting venmo people wouldnt pay the extra gratuity and i’d factor in me covering it because as a barista and server its bs when ppl dont tip well

now -- idgaf if i go out to eat a lot or splurge when im out w friends.  dropping $50-$100 randomly cause something is on clearance at lululemon is not a big deal.  im not anal about my boyfriend and i splitting everything exactly 5050 down the middle cause meh whatever i dont need to be given money back for like the minimal difference.  if whole foods is convenient for me to go to after a workout ill go in without batting an eyelash.  

it is weird tho being poor and then having money -- like ill go to lululemon but absolutely CANNOT buy anything full price.  i still like watching movies but 99% of the time go on discount days cause spending $20 when i could spend $9 feels wrong.  whenever i do basic things with my boyfriend, like going to the grocery store or mall, i’m most definitely the most cost conscious -- checking against the value per oz, whereas he just picks whatever and gives no thoughts to it (i think he makes like 240k a year thereabouts, definitely more than double but i dont know the specifics).  i drive a 2015 toyota corolla le he drives a nicer but still affordable more luxury sedan hyundai sonata souped up with seat warmers navigation and he’s installed a dash cam and stuff.  my car is definitely a commuter car that’s just one level up from the s basic model.  when i htink about buying a new car i dont know if i could buy a lexus but yet i sometimes think about getting a tesla instead of a prius

another weird one is getting mad at myself for leaving reusable grocery bags LITERALLY in the trunk and then having to pay the $0.10 per bag.  I’ve easily spent at least $15 on bags prob.  Before i would be kicking myself hard cause i’d need to pinch pennies.  another thing that ive noticed makes me feel “rich” is i can sustain my craft coffee/boba habit just fine and not give a fuck.  before i got more mindful of it i htink my my coffee boba budget was like $100 a month.  ive always loved craft coffee, but it has to be RIGHT if i was gonna spend $6.  when i was living w my parents in san diego going to a new coffee shop and driving up to encinitas or whatever was like THE trip. now i get philz off my mobile app whenever i head out of class or if im feeling like it and its not that special

but yeah, im not rich by any means but it was huge to go from like $16 an hour at my office job/$15.70?? w/ benefits I think that was my starbucks shift supervisor rate/annual salaries of 20k ish to $39k at a law firm in downtown sac (grossly underpaid but at least rent was only $300 at a family friends) back to the law firm job up to $70k.  there i got a raise at the same job from 70 to 80k and then 80k to 86.

THEN cause i was privileged enough to have been able to save money making more when i hated my job i just up and quit (i think i had like no more than 5k in savings at the time --it wouldve been more but i spent 3k on prk/lasik).  anyway yeah i was lucky af and got a new job in a month -- and the offer for this job was 100k base, 10k bonus, some amount of stock (i still suck at this stuff) and a stupid amount of perks like $1000 gym reimbursement and basically free health insurance -- if i annualize all my pay+perks, assuming i get my full bonus, its prob like 120k.

so i have like 5x ed my income in 4 years since graduating from college.

the crazy part is people that were more privileged than me STARTED at 100k as new grads, including 401ks and what not.  im lucky becuase i started mine back when i was 18 at starbucks.

income inequality and access to knowledge/resources has become something ive become more aware about and passionate about over time.  me and my boyfriend clashed a lot earlier i think because we literally were in different planes of our lives and income levels.  we’ve been together 3 years, but have known each other for 4.  we broke up for 1 year in between -- and yeah ngl had i never improved myself or actually reached my income/earning potential we likely would not have gotten back together.  additionally him supporting me when we got back together raised me out of not the poverty level but yeah we met and i made 39k.  i took the plunge and moved out to sf for myself and lets be real for him too and made 70k which was a huge jump.  and in a short 15 months or so i jumped again to 100k base.

im never gonna make as much as he does (men/women blah we can get into that) but yeah even having access to money adjacently is so powerful.  anthony never outright gave me money and im too much of a hardass independent person that ive NEVER borrowed money from him, never intend to.  i really vehemently despise the idea of free loading but because of him just being around yeah my life has been improved.  

when we met in 2015 in our young 20s we were in our have fun phase.  i was too poor to have gone to thiings like coachella or out to a concert.  he got me into music and made it easy for me to experience because he’d buy the ticket, drinks, pick me up and pay for sf parking.  i would likely get dinner ahead of time or something small and generally we would switch so if he got tickets one time i’d get them next.  but he ALWAYS paid for drinks and lets be real the occasional not drinks :P he had introduced me to music in such a way that i was willing to drop $800 or so on coachella + car camping + take pto days even when we were broken up 10ish months or whatever it was the first time we dated but if you think about it he likely dropped at least 1k on me during those 10 months without batting an eye lash.  i made 39k at the time working in downtown sacramento and he made 90k base (maybe 115k total comp) living in SF.

despite just basic things like me being immature for 23 -- a big reason i think we broke up at the time was the income level inequality.  it was both our first jobs out of school (first job out of stanford grad for him, he immediately got his masters out of undergrad).  i did a round of uc davis, community, uc davis.  

he told me he was breaking up with me because when we met i had originally wanted to be a lawyer and then didnt end up pursuing that path and he saw it as a lack of ambition/drive.  what he didnt see was general growing up and not having access to lawyers as i grew up, just me working at this really top tier A+ law firm and feeling out of place as an asian woman working with rich WASPs.  me wearing pencil skirts and having major impostor syndrome.  what he did end up seeing was an insecure version of myself in our relationship with me bending over backwards to make him happy.

when i moved to sf and made 70k it definitely was a huge ego boost to make that additional 30k, but to be real, here in sf and paying more rent than i was in sac and SD/just general living being expensive 70k wasnt that much.  what it did for my confidence though was priceless (i was an ea to a ceo at a tech startup).  i really grew into myself and was more confident in my abilities -- and honestly a lot of that was just getting older and knowing that i was good at things, bad at certain things and i wasnt going through my quarterlife/post grad crisis anymore.  

then those raises to 80k and 86k made me more ballsy.  these things were obvi practiced with anthony as i had a partner to discuss and practice with/an educated thought partner.  at this time anthony was making $150k base or so (after realizing he had been grossly underpaid as a PM for the 90k initial salary)

all of this set me up to basically make my position what it is now AND for it to be 100k.  tbh im a glorified low level coordinator at a big company.  i honest to goodness for the first three months probably worked a total of 2ish hours a day? this role should probably max out at 90k.  and by max out i mean this role likely shouldve started at 75k with incremental raises to get to 90 in like 3 years.  i STARTED at 100 and can likely if i play my cards right be promoted to a program manager in a year (or less).  that’ll prob bump me to a base of 120 or so if i’m aggressive.

i always shitted on sf when i moved here because i hate the tech bros, the elitist ppl, the vcs who think theyre out here changing the world but seriously being surrounded by people that went to ivy leagues or the UC’s that were better than mine have honestly, like my boyfriend, just uplifted my status.  something as small as casual lunch time conversation being more intellectual makes a huge difference for me re: how stimulated i feel and how much more energized ive become because of ppl around me.  i def still have impostor syndrome all the time but its been so much growth from 23 to 27.

30s should be great because ill be well into my career by then and making even more and closing the gap even more w my boyfriend.  its funny too cause hes 29 now AND FINALLY getting that postgrad quarter life crisis.  his privilege was able to offset him to have this crisis later on in life where he made more money and could make smarter choices.  privilege really is the thing that keeps on giving and im grateful to have started poor and really appreciate it.  as i make more money i also care more and more to give back.  if i ever do run for office in my 50s or whatever im gonna push for more access to education and arts.  i had an interest in this as an undergrad but couldnt pursue it because itd be a lifetime of poverty, but yeah who knows.

dang this went long but it is really interesting when i think about money and how much its effected me.  im lucky i was able to raise myself out of the level my immigrant parents brought me and my sister to.  them moving out of the philippines was the best thing that ever happened to me.  the second is them fronting the bill for my university education.  the privilege i have is extremely special and important and i want to honor their sacrifices because im sitting on a 100k because of decades of hard work and frugality on their ends.

im fucking lucky.

we gotta pass on the resources and uplift those around us if we are fortunate.

Come on Brian!!! You can do it!!!

Hellooooooo :) OMG…. I’m in an actual good mood!! Lucky for you guys this might just be my most positive blog post yet! But let’s not get carried away, I mean, I’ll always find something to complain about eh ;)

So this week I’ve been more up and down than a bride’s nightie. I went from feeling strangely high up to so far down I never thought I’d reach the surface again.

When I last posted I was feeling so god damn positive. Like I could conquer the world - I felt like even though I still had that fluey thing I couldn’t wait to get better and kick my M.E. in the balls….. instead… my M.E. hit me right in the vag. (Don’t worry… my vag is fine…. #TMI)

Monday was nice. It was sunny (Love me some vitamin D) and I traveled down to saaaaaaf east Landan to see one of my best friends. We ate masses of Chinese takeaway and watched shit tele- in other words, best evening ever!! I was in a really good mood and felt emotionally strong. Gwarn gal.

Then on Tuesday I woke up and felt like someone had not only taken out my batteries and buried them in a land far far away  but they had also run me over with their bloody massive heavy bus and then… I don’t even know…. done something to make me cry. A lot.

What a bastard.

No matter what I did I just couldn’t shake it. I managed to keep it together (kind of) most of the morning and was doing the Lightning Process as often as I could (See my other blogs if you would like to know more about what that is- but basically it’s a Neuro Linguistic Programming/ brain training thang I’m trying ATM for my M.E.) and then by the afternoon came I completely broke down.

I couldn’t stop crying and could hardly breathe. I was having panic attacks and it yet again felt like my world has collapsed and I didn’t want to live in it.

The process is a lot about making changes and life choices and sticking to them- it’s really hard because by ‘allowing myself’ to have this break down, that then meant that I had failed in doing the LP. That thought was then just adding fuel to the fire and making me even more upset.

I knew that the LP had been really helping me the last few days, especially considering that I’d had this fluey thing yet I was still able to feel positive (trust me that’s a bloody miracle) so I hadn’t lost all my faith. I just had to find a way to pull it together and power through.

Allow me to please introduce you to Brian. He’s a funny one is Brian… he controls my whole body and everything in it - or does he??? That’s what I am trying to figure out. I THINK I can take control of him and stop his silly thoughts, or at least I hope I can, but does Brian control my thoughts or do I? - Yes Brian is my brain, and it makes me laugh… Every time I am struggling to do the LP and I get a bit annoyed with myself, I start saying in my head ‘Come on Brian!!’ ‘You can do this!!’  …. ‘silly silly Brian’ ahhh… it’s making me laugh now as I type that… god I am a weirdo….

So after a day of sobbing and feeling broken hearted that I was feeling so much worse I went to bed and cried myself to sleep,  but I knew that tomorrow was a new day and a new chance to start over again… AGAIN.

I woke up on Wednesday feeling determined as ever. I was meant to have a writing session that day but it got cancelled so I had a little think to myself….. What could I do today that would challenge my body and mind and make me feel like I had achieved something if I managed to do it?? PRIMARK that’s what!! lols…. even though it is like hell on earth I do love a good rummage!! Throughout the morning I kept getting waves of feeling too ill and ‘Brian’ was there saying ‘you’re not well enough to go’ ‘just stay home and rest’ but I ignored him and went for it! I am lucky enough to be able to pretty much just get one bus there and back so at least I don’t have the tube struggles :)

So I went, I saw, I purchased :) AND I treated myself to my fav chicken wings on the way home!! I was knackered but in a good way- in a - I haven’t done much for a while so I probs should be knackered kinda way.

I rested that evening and then it was Thursday.

Thursday was also a good day!! I went and got ma hurrrrr did!!! YASSSSS QUEEEN!! My hair dresser Kris is amazing! I’ve finally found someone who can get my hair white blonde in one visit!! - trust me, my natural hair colour is really dark brown and I used too have to go like three times for them to get it the right colour!! This time though we decided to go pink :) :)

It’s always lovely seeing Kris, he’s not only gorgeous (unfortunately he bats for the other team) but he’s hilarious too and we always have a proper giggle! Although if you’re reading this Kris, one day I WILL turn you!! HAHAHAH

I did the LP all day and then managed to do my nails when I got home :) How cute are my little bunnies and chicks though right?? 

By the way - I do just feel the need to say that I can not wait to get back to work!! This must seem like I am now just spending my days spoiling myself!… shopping, hair, nails….well….. lol… but seriously, I am spending these days trying to build up my strength and my stamina so that I can book in sessions and gigs and then stick to them. Also I’ve had so much time recently where I wouldn’t have actually been able to go and get my hair done, so to me it’s an achievement. - I have already started booking some writing sessions in for late next week! Wish me luck!! But I feel like if I can stay on the right track I will be able to do them! Yay!

Friyay had been booked in for a while, and for weeks I thought that I wouldn’t be able to go and that I would have to cancel on my friends yet again… but…. she made it!!! We went to a lovely little pub in Hampstead for lunch and it was so nice to spend some quality time together…By quality time I mean that basically we spend ALL of our spare time together as it is, but we are usually just talking bollocks, laying on the sofas with Catfish on the tele - not that I am complaining ;) But this was a little more ‘civilised’ and I felt like a grown up ;)

The food wasn’t that great not gonna lie, but that was more because they didn’t have many gluten free options…so I ended up ordering scallops and bread #random. I’ve never tried scallops before and I wasn’t a massive fan. Chewy bland weirdness in my mouth. Get out please. The bread (sourdough) was ok…. but not really worth £13…I’ll get over that though… or will I?! lol

The company however was GREAT- all of the gals got pretty drunk and I was the sober observer as per usual. I hate that, but am kinda used to it. Maybe I will be well enough to drink again some time soon….although I do have way more important priorities I know, so don’t worry!! I do have problems with self control though and am a bit of the ‘all or nothing’ type, so if I say I am going to have just the one drink, it ends up being a countless amount and then I die for a very long time afterwards- I’m talking weeks! - The last time I drank was New Years Eve - I had just had a really good patch through most of December and was so massively on track! I was working, socialising, still not to the extent I want to be, but I was able to do an OK amount which was AMAZING.

Then NYE hit. ouchhhhhh…whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!? why did I do it? Actually I know why. Because I wanted to be normal that’s why.

We went to a house party where I drank quite a bit of vod (maybe 4 or 5??) which is enough to finish me right off, but had a bloody fantastic night! We were all dressed up as Snapchat filters (obvs) and I actually felt like partying! For the first time in forever I did a little bit of dancing (shocked cat emoji) and wasn’t sat down on the sofa at the side the whole time as expected!! I still left early and slept in the cab home but I was so bloomin’ happy.

Then I was not so happy…. this is my most recent kind of relapse within the big relapse if that makes any sense. I think I’ve been pretty unwell and at home most of the time since New Years with the odd few days of being much better and then straight back down again- They call it ‘boom and bust’ in the M.E. world, where you basically feel a little bit better so you do a bit more because you are desperate to and then it’s too much so you’re worse than when you started. Good times.

So yea, since then I haven’t had any alcohol…ok that’s a lie… I went on a date (shocked cat emoji again please) and really felt like I had to have one drink, but that was a whole other story that when the time comes deserves its own blog!! (just you wait) - and yes I got really unwell after I drank so never again. It’s been about 3 months sober now (LOL I don’t actually have a drinking problem at all) but we have a house party in about a months time…. uh ohhhh I know it’s so easy to say that ‘your health is so much more important’ and not to drink, but there’s a fat alcoholic stuck inside of me trying to get out and she just wants to party and eat LOL.

So now I am on the train down to Sussex now to see my family for the Easter weekend :) I usually end up breaking down to my Mum and spending a majority of the time resting, but I am feeling confident that I can ‘Process’ throughout my time there and really enjoy being home……. AND SEEING MY CAT!!!!!

So I packed my laptop away and got off the train and am now avec la fam :)

Every day, and week, is so up and down but we’ve just got to keep the faith. Most of the things I did this week I genuinely didn’t think I would be able to do, and couldn’t have done the week before. The darkest roads lead to the most beautiful destinations, we’ve just gotta somehow travel down them without giving into them. Bent and Broken

Been too long since I've written here, to be honest. I know there's probably nobody reading, but... Oh well... At least I get things off my chest.

I've been with Kela's Nuotti rehabilitation program for some time now, once a month for 2 hours with the coach. Mostly been with me talking, but I've got some goals set up towards getting some structure for my weeks. I don't want to just float around anymore.

When I look in the mirror, I see the same 15-yo girl who didn't want to go anywhere, because there was nowhere to go. I'm just fatter and look more tired. I guess that's because I'm 28 now. I look back and I've come far. I'm happily hitched, two cats, rented apartment and a hobby.

That's where I start to see differences. I look around. Some have illnesses and they cope with them, some are just as hopelessly unemployed as I am and some have jobs and steady income that doesn't evaporate 12hrs after it's been deposited in their accounts. What have I achieved in the eyes of others?

I'd say nothing. Sure, some people have it worse, but I feel like a failure for not being able to help the person closest to me. For not being good enough or confident enough to get a job. To support that way. What I'd like to have? A job that I can stand and feel it's worth getting my ass up and out. A pay that I don't have to count every cent of can we get groceries and cat food and litter plus the bills and rent and last until the next pay...

Life likes to throw wrenches at me like Ratchet, with too great of accuracy for my taste. We had savings and our computers broke. I had money and the car repairs were way over what money I got monthly. The second repairs drained the savings again. I'm tired of penny-pinching. The stress is putting a huge strain on me.

I know people would say get a fucking job. It is easier said than done. Right now, Finland does have more jobless people than workplaces open, but compatibility... You can't stuff a ball through a square-shaped hole, you know, we all tried as a kid, I bet.

I might see a job that would be interesting and I'm actually thinking of it, until few hours later, I realize I wouldn't be good at it. I'm afraid.

Few times I've tried my best, only to fail and get told that it wasn't the right way. I can't handle it. Go ahead, you can criticize my art, I know I'm not good at it, but I like doing it and I try, but god... whatever else I do and it tears me apart.

Thrice in Lankava I just wanted to drop everything and walk out, never to return. I fucking tried!

Almost every other day, I just wanted to drop everything and hop in my car and drive away from Powerpark. The register was just too complex for me and I couldn't grasp the details even after the whole season.

Few times I just wanted to sit and cry in the grass when doing park maintenance, I don't know shit about taking care of flowers or anything, I was tossed in and had to hit the ground running.

In the Children's Culture Center, I was so underqualified I'm amazed why they hired me? How bad was the other applicant that showed up?! I was completely lost with everything and just... flopped around like a fish out of water.

At the call center, that's where I broke the first time from getting chewed out by an angry customer for my mistake. The place wasn't really good, but it broke me. It simply broke me. I can barely call anyplace nor keep my shit together if my old mistakes are brought out. I wish I could thank the Swedish coworker who tried to console me. That job wasn't worth it.

People make mistakes and I am always aware of them, but I'd love to just rave at everyone's face that I'm trying, don't tell me where I went wrong. I am trying my fucking hardest.

I don't really try anymore. Not so people can see. I don't want to hear about my mistakes. I've made them and will continue to make. I just want to forget they ever happened. I know I'm trying to shut the world out. Shut the negativity out. It's just... it's like trying to block one of the nozzles in a fountain.

I don't have the answers for those. I wish somebody had. Go through that shit for money isn't what I wish for, but I tend to live in dreamland. None of you probably wonder why if you read my other slice of life shits.

This is my darkness. This is something not even my imaginary friends can save me from. I know I should just... grow the hard skin back now that it has been peeled off. I guess the shit was easier to take from the family in the form of always-broken promises, but it's the same shit that life keeps giving me, so it cannot be that either.

Sometimes I feel like the whole world could burn and I don't care. Other times I just... want to be someone people can trust. That people would trust me and look at me with a smile, with no lies to me.

...see why I don't really even apply for jobs? Why I see the psychotherapist and am in a rehabilitation program? I might look like a well-functioning 28-yo adult. Yet inside, I'm still that confused and broken, angry teen who just resigned to fate and was planning to be a bum under the bridge.

I was exhausted of expectations from everyone and fighting their visions by the time I was 20. I've tried to get a job and enjoy it, do it to my best abilities, but not being good enough. There's only one person who thinks I'm good enough and we live together. I'd probs be still holed up in that tiny village and write stories on the computer in the upstairs of my grandparents, in my childhood home. Without her, I'd be nothing.

Now I'm a wife and a cat mom. A doll modifier. A jewelry maker. A shy writer. None of that pays, but it keeps me alive and sane. If I was ever sane in the first place. I dunno. I've never been like others. I've never known how to do things others do.

Getting a job is a hurdle. Not really my fault either, the job markets are utter crap here. You'd need a million-dollar idea to become an entrepreneur. And you need those fucking million dollars to start that cycle of crap. I just want financial stability. It is just pure impossibility really... At least dreams are free.

I don't like to dream either, they just remind me what I don't have. Money. From a job.

I'm on the road to getting shit done per week, that is one step. I'd just need more help with my mind than can be provided freely. I can't go back either. My hometown is my personal nightmare for me. All the past bad memories flood me. I'm not going back to live, not until I'm better.

If I'm ever getting better.

One thing I have stopped dreaming about completely though. Losing weight. Granny told me I was never gonna lose weight since I had her body type. Well, she is right. Do I hate my body? Yeah, duh, you are lucky you haven't seen it. What do I do about it? Nothing. Nothing's gonna change anyway. My ass and thighs are never fitting in any nice clothes and my gut makes me look preggers, so I just wear oversized clothes. I'm done caring. If she still wants to wake up every morning next to me, even if I'm like this, so be it =)  I'm very much fine with it. I don't care really about myself in physical sense.

I know it shows. One classmate said that the first time she saw me, she had thought that I'd be pretty if I just looked after myself. I never trusted her again, even if she promised to help defend me against rumors. Let them talk if it's their only hobby. In that town, it is the only thing to do. Gossip on others.

I did look around the other day, seeing all these things we've collected but never seem to have time for them and I felt sad. We've put so much love and effort into them. Then what? When we're gone? Who cares of them? Who is there to read their stories? I'm almost tempted to embark in that journey next November. To give them all a voice. Starting from my old imaginary friends. Somebody should hear their stories. Fanfiction-y and impossible they are, but it's our DollWorld. Our stories.

Maybe I should. I don't want this all to go to waste.

Ok, maybe the rant is over. I've unloaded a lot off my chest. Some might call this just attention whoring. It's not, since it's not on IG or Twitter or FB. I'm the type who needs to get things off my mind and out on paper or in digital form. Then I feel better.

A lot has changed and I miss the old times. When I was 15. This new world is harsh and cruel and twisted. Maybe that's the reason for Selenia to exist. It's a safe haven for us. A place where everything is well. It's in this doll room and in our minds and in our word docs. It's in our dreams.

I'm 28. I don't have a job. I love dealing with fashion dolls and handcrafts. I love music, heavy metal in particular. I wish I could turn one of my hobbies into a business, but I know I'm not good enough. I know I'm lazy, but that could also be me being... tired. Tired of failing. Tired of being scared.

Right now I live with my parents, we have 3 cars and there are 3 drivers. All of the cars are in my parents name. One of the cars is a total beater and was given to me as my own car, but we never bothered changing the ownership over because we didn't think it would live very long.
