If I was an old trusted friend that new nothing about FNAF lore or the books and begged you to give me a synopsis so I could understand them better, what direction would you point me in? (Or better yet how would you explain it)
Oookay so! This is kinda how I've made sense of the FNAF lore so far, not having read the Fazbear Frights or Tales from the Pizzaplex books yet. I'm sure I'm gonna make mistakes in here somewhere or other, the timeline's weird to try n keep track of and there's a lot of debate about what goes where, but! Here's what I got. This is gonna be a long one, hehe
So, in the 80's, two guys - William Afton and Henry Emily started a little restaurant in called Fredbear's Family Diner.
Tumblr media
It was a little pizza joint whose selling point was entertainment by two animatronics designed and built by Henry - Fredbear and Bonnie. And he built the animatronics so that the endoskeletons inside of them - the robotic parts that let them move around independently - could be collapsed inside the animatronics so that a human could wear the suits instead and perform in them. Henry and William themselves would sometimes dress up as Fredbear and Bonnie respectively to put on shows.
Henry Emily was the engineer and the creative mind behind the whole thing, while William Afton mostly handled the business side of things. Will had a family with three kids - his youngest son, Crying Child (we don't rly know his name. evan's a popular fanon name, but. i'll be calling him CC just for clarity.), his daughter, Elizabeth, and his oldest son, Michael. CC was constantly being bullied and tormented by Michael to the point of just being totally miserable, because the poor kid was just very nervous and anxious and easily scared, and Michael loved scaring him. Until, one day, at a party at Fredbear's, Michael took his bullying too far. He stuffed CC's head into Fredbear's mouthā€¦ and Fredbear bit down. And killed the kid, or at the very least, put him in a coma.
Tumblr media
Right around the same time, the company William owned with Henry Emily had just opened up a new restaurant - one starring a new cast of animatronics, named Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, and one called the Marionette. Business was going great. William, however, was NOT doing great, still dealing with CC's death/coma. He struggled with grief, and vowed to find some way to "put him back together". And then there was Henryā€¦ and Henry's daughter, Charlie. Henry loved Charlie a lot. He genuinely seemed to try his best to make her happy - making all kinds of little animatronic toys just for her, and just being happy spending time with her. And William couldn't stand it. Like, there was Henry - having a family who loved him and who he loved in return, while William's family was falling apart at the seams.
Soā€¦ one night, when there was a party happening at Freddy's, Charlie found herself locked out of the restaurant. And William found her out there and killed her, then dumped her dying body in the trash. The Marionette - one of the animatronics there, programmed to try to keep children safe, noticed Charlie out there in the trash and picked her up to try and get her to safety, but Charlie died in its armsā€¦ which caused her to possess the Marionette. After Charlie's death, Henry leaves the picture for a long time. Losing Charlie just absolutely wrecked the poor guy. Soā€¦ Henry just goes away. Stops interacting with the narrative for a while.
Tumblr media
From there, after William found out Charlie's spirit was able to possess the animatronic, he became fascinated with the concept of possibly using the animatronics to cheat death. And so, he started to dress up in his old springlock Bonnie suit to lure kids away and kill them, stuffing their bodies into the animatronics. The Marionette, possessed by Charlie, tried to save the dying kids by doing something or other to help bind their spirits to the animatronics. That way, even though they were dying, they could live on, in some form - not aā€¦ great fate, but Charlie/Marionette was just trying to help the only way she knew how.
And so, the animatronics became haunted. This version of Freddy's was closed down after the kids were killed, but reopened sometime later, with the Toy Animatronics, and the original, haunted animatronics still present as the Withered Animatronics, in FNAF 2. Eventually, that version of Freddy's shut down as well. And then, finally, Freddy Fazbear's Pizza opened, the one from FNAF 1 - the Withered Animatronics having been given new suits and new looks and all. (The order of events here is kinda confusing, so I could be wrong, but. I feel like this is the general gist.)
Tumblr media
But over the course of everything, William eventually became aware of the existence of a substance called Remnant. Remnant is essentially metal that has become infused with a spirit, then melted down into a malleable/liquid form. Basically, souls given a physical, manipulable form. Basically, trap a soul in an animatronic - smelt the animatronic and by extension the soul inside it down - the resulting substance is Remnant. Remnant, William discovered, can be harvested and injected into other animatronics to give those animatronics life - letting them move about with some degree of sentience and awareness. You're basically injecting a fragment of a soul into them.
And so he started experimenting with Remnant in a new restaurant he'd been working on. This restaurant was a sister location - Circus Baby's Pizza World - starring Circus Baby, Funtime Foxy, Funtime Freddy, Bonbon, and Ballora, all remnant-powered animatronics that William designed specifically to be able to capture and kill children and contain their souls for him to be able to scoop out and smelt down into more Remnant.
Tumblr media
This backfired on William when his daughter, Elizabeth, visited Circus Baby all by herself despite William warning her not to. And Circus Baby captured and killed Elizabeth, trapping her soul inside.
Tumblr media
Circus Baby's Pizza World was then shut down, and the animatronics were all put in storage. And, eventually, William decided that he wanted to try and find a way to get Elizabeth back. So he sent his last remaining child, his oldest son Michael, down into the storage facility to retrieve Elizabeth. Howeverā€¦ all of the animatronics there wound up dismantling themselves and joining together into one entity - Ennard - in a bid to try and escape the facility together. But they needed to appear human in order to make it out successfully. Soā€¦ they trapped Michael in the Scooping Room, and scooped him out.
Tumblr media
The process injected him with Remnant, and allowed Ennard to crawl inside his body and wear him as a disguise to escape. This worked for a whileā€¦ until Michael's body became desanguinated and not really a convincing human disguise anymore. So Ennard burst out of his body to go live in the sewers for a while. And Michael came back to life, thanks to the Remnant in his body. Turns out it not only gives life to animatronics, but sustains life in humans. So now he was a purple zombie. Gotta love it. He vowed to track down William and get vengeance on him for everything that happened.
Tumblr media
William, meanwhile, decided to return to Freddy Fazbear's Pizza to get the original animatronics, break them down, and smelt them. However, after he broke them down, the spirits inside them emerged and began to chase William down. He ran from them and, knowing that the ghosts (with their memories and minds all weird and fuzzy from having been dead for so long) would mistake him for an animatronic and leave him alone if he was dressed up in his springlock Bonnie suit again, climbed into the suit, momentarily bamboozling the spirits. But the springlocks holding back the endoskeleton in the suit gave out, sending all the metal beams and wires and cables and whatnot of the endoskeleton launching straight through and into William's body, making him die a horrible, grizzly death. And it was a looong time before anyone discovered his body.
Tumblr media
Decades later, some folks put together a Fazbear Entertainment-themed horror attraction called Fazbear's Fright, using old animatronics salvaged from old locations. One of these was William himself, his rotting corpse still encased inside the dilapidated, moldy, decaying springlock Bonnie costume. At this point in the canon, he's known as Springtrap!
Tumblr media
And it's not quite clear if maybe William had injected himself with Remnant, or if it's just that his spirit is possessing the Bonnie suit itself, but either way, William was still sentient and aware inside the suit and was finally set free again. Fazbear's Fright went up in flames, but William managed to escape and rebuilt the damage done to his suit in the fire with scraps lying around.
Meanwhileā€¦ Henry Emily (he's back baybeyyy) and Michael Afton both became aware of William being back on the scene. And Henry decided to finally bring an end to things. He built a new Freddy's Pizzeria, and began sending out signals to lure in the possessed animatronics that were still out and about. This meant he lured in William Afton - now Scraptrap, Elizabeth Afton - now Scrap Baby, having been kicked out of Ennard and having to build herself a new body, Ennard - now Molten Freddy, having built themselves a new body, andā€¦ Charlie Emily - now Lefty, an animatronic that was designed by Henry himself to lure in and capture the Marionette - his daughter - and bring her to the Pizzeria.
And the person who wound up getting the job to act as bait for all the animatronics inside this Pizzeria was Michael Afton. Henry set the place aflame with all of the animatronics inside, as well as himself, and Michael. He hoped, in doing so, Elizabeth and Charlie could finally be at peace, the souls trapped inside Ennard could be set free, William would go straight to hell, and himself and Michael could put their own personal tragedies to bed as well.
youtube
The souls were set free, and William's soul was trapped in his own personal hell by one of the children he killed - a spirit who possessed Golden Freddy, named Cassidy. She, in particular, was extremely fuckin angry with William, and so trapped him in a loop of being killed by his own creations over and over and over again. (Ultimate Custom Night!)
And for years, that was the end of it. Most of the spirits finally at rest, and William's spirit being tortured for everything he did.
...
And thenā€¦ Fazbear Entertainment decided to get silly with it. Cue the Pizzaplex, Glitchtrap, and the Mimic.
I think I'm gonna do what I've got on the Pizzaplex era lore so far in a reblog later! This one's long enough, heh. And I know a lot less about what's going on with the current lore, but! I can at least give the basics! Plus that just feels like a nice place to leave this synopsis off.

So you're an engineering major? I was thinking about taking that route but I'm not sure yet. Could you tell me like the pros and cons? lmao I know this doesn't relate to kpop but I could use the advice šŸ’€
yeah! iā€™m a chem eng major (with a bio eng minor) but i started my uni career in 1st year general eng (which gave me a taste of like mechanical, electrical, computer and civil as well)
pls take all of this with a grain of salt i can only speak from my experiences + my younger brotherā€™s (who is majoring in mech eng at a different uni than me)
letā€™s start with the pros:
- prestigious - engineering comes with this wholeĀ ā€œyou are the crop of the creamā€ mentality. itā€™s enforced by the institution, the student body etc. weā€™re proud of how hard we work and people are usually wowed when they hear that you study it because the public knows how difficult it is.
- job prospects - in this day and age where the economy and job market literally suck, they suck a bit less for engineers. even non-engineering companies want to hire engineers because of their critical thinking ability and problem solving skills.
- community - my university has like 100k students, and engineering is only a small fraction of that (like 5k?). iā€™ve noticed that in my arts electives there is absolutely no sense of unityā€¦ like people go to class and mind their own business where as in engineering everyone knows each other/ youā€™re forced to collaborate and get to know one another because of group projects (enGINEERS ALWAYS WORK IN TEAMS UGH) and just copying problem sets off one another etc lmao. your class will def become close knit and shit by the end off every torturous semester.
- work hard party harder (if youā€™re into that, engineers do in fact party quite hard, but only once exams are done hah)
- research! labs! discovery! if you like learning, engineering allows you to keep at it. youā€™ll learn all the physics and math you never knew you existed but also get to apply your theory. i really like that aspect - especially as a chem eng, we got to do some really cool stuff in lab like make biofuel from our choice of oil and then heat it up in a bomb calorimeter to determine how efficient it is!Ā
- a way of thinking. i think the most important take away from my 4 years of eng will be how i think. this is something not a lot of majors are exposed to. this isnā€™t about memorizing equations or facts or writing essays and giving presentations. itā€™s about being able to break down a complex situation into one that is more manageable and approach a solution with confidence. this aspect of critical thinking is useful in literally everything you do and will continue to be useful to you in the years to come.Ā
- ERTW -Ā ā€œengineers rule the worldā€ is a phrase you hear a lot in uni. although i think that every profession is important and helps the world go round, engineers are kinda put in a position where they can help lead the change and make a difference. of course that comes with heavy burdens like public safety and protecting the environment but it also allows you as a person to be the change.Ā
- thereā€™s a lot of traditions andĀ ā€œcultureā€ to it. one of the main ones for canada is the iron ring (which iā€™ll be getting soon iā€™m hyped) but even in school there are a bunch of things that we uphold like our frosh week, ceremonies, pranks etc. (enjoy this video of my grade being pranked at frosh lmao they make u do a fake test with absolutely bullshit answers to make you shit yourself before you even start school)Ā
- there are some really cool extra curricular where you can build cars and robots or design zero energy houses and take part in case competitions
- $$$ - apparently it pays well but what do i know i donā€™t have a job offer yet :ā€™)))
- kim namjoon might be ur next classmate u never know
ok now the cons:Ā
- its rly fucking hard like you could have never imagined like what the fuck all the all nighters i have pulled what exactly is a sleep schedule i dont even know and just constantly being mind fucked in classes and crying a lot and trying to stay positive in an environment that is so damn competitive is :ā€™)))
- i fucking hate group projects and my school has made it their goal to include one in EVERY semester worth atleast 20% of your mark like they truly hate you
- class schedules are terriblE like in my first 3 years i had so few breaks and like 8+ hours of class and was constantly tired and hated my life but what else is new (also i didnā€™t have any electives until now, in my 4th year :| so you literally never catch a break)
- its exPENSIVE - apparently tuition rates are based off of how much you will make after graduation but like i pay 2 times as much as a science/arts student does which comes out to 15k+ a year like ? ?? ? that fucking ridiculous but god bless student loans for coming through
- we have more class than the arts/science students - like a week extra every semester because fuck us in particular
thatā€™s all i think :ā€™) if you have more questions feel free to ask. despite the cons iā€™m glad i chose to pursue it. itā€™s challenging but rewarding imo.Ā
