I hate this movie. my dad put this in when I was a kid and it scared the beejeebes outta me. I almost stopped watching TV because of this, I think i spent weeks afterwards just thinking my TV was going to kill me. So, thanks dad! So, now as an adult. Sitting through this, my inner child and that memory kept popping up and yeah... I get this is supposed to be scary and that my younger self was terrified of The Ring but watching it now, it's not scary. It's almost boring, the age of technology has not let this movie survive its scary factor. Even though the scare factor isn't there anymore, i do gotta give credit for their use of props and particular use of camera angles to emphasise key moments. Also, it had an ending. At least a moment that felt like it would be perfect for an ending but I'm guessing they got greenlit for a sequel, somewhere along the productions stages which meant they had to add in the connection for a sequel. My fat fingers accidentally posted this a minute ago (before I was finished) so, second try! Influences: Horror movie version. This painting ("What Have I Become?!" c.2003, acrylic on canvasboard, sold earlier this year) was finished a year after Gore Verbinski's version of The Ring came out in theaters. I saw it on cable back to back with the Japanese original "Ringu" (or just "Ring"). I was horrified by the "dead girl in the closet" scene, and by the faces of Sadako/Samara's victims after death (swipe through if you dare, lol). I used the dislocated jaw in many of my paintings, but this was the first one. Now that I've mentioned it you'll probably always see it, heheh.
