alright voltron essay time we've only watched thru s2 ep1 so i dont have the whole picture yet but this is what ive observed thus far. if shiro is the robin of the team, then keith is raven and lance is beastboy right, just by way of personality parallels (the teen titans/team voltron comparison breaks down after that since theres no starfire counterpart among the paladins and both pidge and hunk have cyborg-like elements to them but anyway). like hear me out for a sec. both robin and shiro have that unshakable focus, bordering on and sometimes crossing the line into obsession, as is demonstrated in every slade episode and in the scene where shiro is trying to interrogate sendak long after all the other paladins have gotten bored and wandered off. both shiro and robin find themselves in situations where their entanglement with the villain puts the rest of their team at risk in some way - the examples that come to mind are when shiro locks up outside the galra base and freezes all of voltron, and when robin goes after slade on his own and is forced to fight his teammates. meanwhile keith and raven both have the whole quiet reserved slightly grumpy thing going on but can also give off these bright bursts of passionate emotion (usually anger but not always) that tend to get them into trouble. both of them have a more pragmatic/pessimistic outlook than the others (i think this is more true for raven than keith but whatever) and get quickly fed up with the antics of their teammates. and then there's lance/beastboy. i personally find lance super obnoxious and grating whereas beastboy generally strikes me as legitimately funny and caring and at his core not a dick while still having his silly moments, but in any case they serve similar comic relief purposes through a combination of emotional immaturity and girl-craziness. so what im observing in the show is that keith and shiro, like raven and robin, both have a sort of unspoken intimacy between them. shiro doesnt poke fun at keith for being "emo" like other members of the team do, which robin also does not do to raven (the others regularly refer to her as weird, creepy, spooky, goth, etc while robin actively tells the others to give her space and privacy when she needs it). shiro/keith and robin/raven tend to speak to each other more as equal partners than leader/follower when they're alone. there is clear mutual trust between them. meanwhile lance/keith and bb/raven spend 90% of their shared screen time bickering or actively insulting each other (more pronounced in keith/lance thus far) and share only brief moments of mutual understanding (the only one of which ive seen with keith/lance so far being followed up by lance basically going "no homo"). like at least after cy and bb are trapped in raven's mind bb has the grace to go up to her and be like "i still think ur creepy but at least now i understand why" unlike lance whose attitude towards keith after their """bonding moment""" in s1 was basically no different. like i get why ppl were so into bbrae but also i Did Not Like It for many of the same reasons i Do Not Like klance, the biggest of which is the disparate levels of emotional maturity. and im way into sheith for a lot of the same reasons i was so into robrae which include them respecting, protecting and caring for each other and showing like actual emotional investment in each other. by all means ship whatever the fuck u want, who am i to deny u ur shay/allura/hunk threesome or what have u, but thats my essay on why i personally am a sheith and not a klance, with examples from my teen titans days thanks for reading have a nice life
