PAAAAUSE do NOT question why I'm combing through your content hunting down for this one specific angst post IM HERE FOR CATER DIAMOND NOW! I'm a big certified fan since I have a folder with 100+ pictures of him.

THE 👑♦️ WRITER!!! I have no idea what they're controversial for but YEAH. They were my first exposure to Cater's identity within the Fandom and it rlly screwed with my perception of him at first... and it didn't help that everywhere you go it seems to be the same thing. I was once going to write fanfic about him with the same plot as all of them... and then it just kind of got boring to me. We have such little content of his character since he avoids being vulnerable at all costs— but why does he have to have Riddle's backstory with a fresh coat of paint on it? In some way or another, his mother pressures him (along with his sisters) harms him, hates him??? his FIRST birthday card says they're getting BETTER at being LESS pushy. and if you think for 2 seconds his life can already have tragedy without going Riddle's life levels of extreme.

A lot of people seem to forget, or willingly DISCARD the fact that he's had to uproot his life repeatedly for all of his life in favor of an abuse plot. That he can't keep friends because the moment he loses contact with them there's a phusical disconnect that severs them, so he prefers to keep his relationships shallow so it doesn't hurt HIM. There's no one talking about the way the magic of traveling and seeing new sights slowly dies and turns into a slog of landscape when you finally realize "this is going to happen again, and again, and again, and theres nothing I can do about it but nod along to another 'Sorry, kids!'" there's nothing about him breaking down and putting his foot down and REFUSING to pack his boxes because he doesn't want to move anymore. There's nothing about the dread of internships coming up, having to do the same song and dance all over again with Night Raven College.

no one talks about the possibility that he might not know HOW to settle down anymore. that he might not know how to talk to someone deeper than surface level, because he's been avoiding it for so long. he wants to have a place to call his own and never leave, but at the same time, he's so used to coming and going, he can't find the breaks to stop.

People are a collage of the people they meet. And Cater Diamond is just that-- but he's met so many people, carries so many fragments, faces, that he might just not know what to do with them anymore. Jamil describes him in an event as fitting a soft pink scarf because he gives of a calm older sibling vibe— where did he pick that up? From handling Heartslabyul, from placating Riddle. Hell, Trey’s been his roommate for two years.

He has so many talents. His capability with people— ever noticed how he has no connection to Riddle aside from also being Trey’s friend, but somehow he's basically in the same position as him, by Riddle's side? He did that on his OWN, without the childhood friend groundwork. Taking a look at his bedroom, you can see he has a professional camera and a corkboard with pictures on it, it's a serious hobby of his! It's not just magicam he likes. He likes skateboarding, so much so that he's good enough for it to bleed into broom-riding. His chibi rides the broom like one, and Riddle, again, recommends going to HIM for help with broom flying. It's somewhat implied he only recently picked up guitar as a new hobby (for pop music club) and that he doesn't practice much since they just fool around by gossiping and snacking. his friendship with kalim and lilia is just another thing that makes me go whebrbsjsjdb

Some people/writers have written that since he 'wears a mask' he has to be lying about EVERYTHING. I've seriously read about him only learning guitar so people like him or that he does magicam for the numbers (partially true, but again, the photography hobby) Cater fools people with the mask SO MUCH, that they can't even see him as he is lmao 😭🙏

the mask is not there to avoid people peering into him— at least, not primarily. it's there so HE avoids getting attached, because he knows it's going to end.

you don't even have to read in between the lines for cater. you have to look at the fucking spine of the book to see anything about him, but people would just rather thrust an abuse plot that has no real substance with the source material... I guess it's engaging.

Why do love Azul? Let me just list everything rn (im soryyy i must yap about this man:

His backstory

The tragedy of the fact that he essentially becomes like his bullies by throwing his power around in turn

His complicated relationship with the twins

The tragedy of the fact that Azul has never experienced love and acceptance from anyone outside his family, always met with cruelty and rejection, causing him to become jaded towards the notion of sentimentality and hide his attachments to even things like his own restaurant with claims of being in it for the money

His work-ethic

He gets flustered by compliments and it's so cuteeeee asdjhfd,gjlksds

That scene with his baby pictures after his overblot and he's so embarrassed RHAKJEDFuhksrjg

The tragedy of the fact that Azul is so insecure despite all his talents. It's never good enough. It never will be. He's easily jealous (see book 6 with him and riddle) because he's so used to being mocked for being bottom of the barrel that he's always afraid of going back there.

I'd have to say Cater just bc WHY IS HE SO IRRELEVANT TO THE PLOT??? Like genuinely hes such an interesting character and for what... literally nothing would change if he wasn't there other than like someone else would paint the roses

and there's this (suuuper controversial from what ive heard) cater x vil writer and their portrayal pretty much became the main one for cater and tbh i just really did not vibe with it and it permanently soured his character for me bc i consume more fan-content than canon nowadays so fanon has a major impact on whether i like or dislike a character bc it'll be the source of most of my content (because let's face it there's DEFINITELY more fanfics than vignettes for the characters)

gameplay tips

do the daily and weekly tasks!: these give rewards each day/week that will help you in card leveling, overall player leveling, and collecting s-chips. sometimes events happen which add new tasks to do for certain rewards so like, basically whenever you see an Exclamation Point Icon anywhere, check it out! theres gonna be stuff to do and rewards to get from it

level up your cards!: if im remembering my own experience starting out, i recall that the debate power increase through the main story was a little bit steep in the beginning jHVKSJHDF. i used to get on by just fine with the EXP from debates itself leveling cards, but that quickly didnt give my deck enough juice. level em up with oracles so u can smoothly go thru the main story :D

take ur time exploring not just the story but also just the sheer amount of other stuff going on in the game: i was overwhelmed when i started, and i started on this game's Release. there was Less Stuff. idk how it must be for ppl coming in now, when theres More Stuff omg. but it's chill, take ur time, theres a bunch of neat stuff to discover

(idk how intuitive/already obvious these might already be, but when i started out i had no idea how these types of games worked so it took me a while to realize there were MORE STORIES JHSDJFH so i'll mention these tips too, aka tips i wish i knew in august of 2021, HAHA)

read card stories/content: every card you have that is not an R card (so the SSR, SR, and MR), has either a 6 part story in them to read or 2 audio messages for you to listen to and they are Wonderful. dont sweat it tho if u dont have a card and u wanna know its content, by this point, nearly everything is recorded on youtube so u can easily watch what u dont have!

play the boys' personal stories!: aside from the main story (which are the cases and investigations) each nxx boy has personal stories u can find by going to Ur Phone In The Game -> Click On Guy Of Choice -> Lower Right Corner.

if ur interested in nxx team plots outside of the main story, check out past events and their plots on yt!: the event plots are a Treasure Trove of interesting case stories And full ensemble cast interactions. i love this game the best tbh when i see the whole team interacting with each other, so i adore event plots. sadly, nearly all of the events that are done cannot be accessed anymore to newcomers in the game itself, but they can still be watched on yt. buuut thats just nearly all of the events which leads me to my next tip that rlly isnt a tip but simply just my personal recommendation as an intense enjoyer of this game---

download and play through the Mysteries of the Lost Gold event: the Lost Gold event originally ran through september of 2021, but it's been made available permanently as downloadable content in the game no matter when you start playing!! i highly recommend this event. it's by far still my favorite event in this whole game (everything from interesting plot/case to fun gameplay to delicious characterization, I REALLY LOVE LOST GOLD OK!! THIS IS A LOST GOLD STAN ZONE!!)

anyhoo, this event can be accessed by going to X-NOTE Story -> lower and rightmost button Event -> upper and rightmost button Past -> download Mysteries of the Lost Gold

really, i cannot recommend lost gold enough ajhfvjkahfa this is the One Thing i hope all players can experience it's just...I REALLY ADORE IT OKAY!!!
