i took a look at the wiki, and i see the characters is just the princess in different form, how does that work? 🐧

Basically, the Princess changes based on how she's perceived by the Slayer. Your actions in chapter one will determine what form of the Princess you get in chapter two (which can then turn into another form in Chapter 3). For example, if you slay the Princess and fully believe her to be dead in chapter one, in chapter two you'll get the Spectre, the ghost form of the Princess.
