Honestly I really want to be able to side with Solas in dreadwolf. I think it'd be super interesting to play as an elf in Tevinter and be able to just go "yeah actually I think Fen'Harel is right let's tear down that veil." I mean I assume the main conflict will be Solas trying to convince your character to join him, or your character being told they have to try and stop him, and there are not enough games that let you side with the presented "villain" character. I want to see what the world is like with no veil I'm so interested. Also so interested to see what full-on Fen'Harel Solas is like. Is he still as empathetic? Or is he more conniving and distanced from "mortals" like the old stories would have us believe?
#side note it's been a hot minute since I've played trespasser I've been obsessed with origins and anders and justice recently ok#i don't have super high hopes cause bioware sucks ass#Idk if they'll have the balls to introduce the player to that level of moral nuance#i just think it would be fun and cool to have some choices on the final outcome#*with the main villain character I should say#instead of 'player character who is awesome hero defeats evil mean bad guy'#i feel like the past games have always tried to paint a very clear target of who the 'bad guy' is#when in reality that's rarely ever so simple#i want a story that lets you decide if you actually think the bad guy is bad or not#and then lets you choose what to do about it instead of directing you to kill this one guy to save the day yknow?#and I think this would be a wonderful opportunity to explore that#and I mean we did get this is 2 if I'm honest#there's not really a singlular villain#you can choose if you think the mages or the Templars are right and side with one or the other#dragon age dreadwolf#fen'harel#solas dragon age#i just like complications in stories that make decisions very hard#make solas the players friend or something again make him seem like a person and not an evil mage entity bent on killing everyone#maybe I'm just tired of how often the writers have done moral gymnastics and tried to swap it around#to make it seem like actually the mages should all be locked away and treated like shit cause they're all egotistical maniacs#and that the Templar/mage issue is a both sides have a point thing when it is clearly not#maybe I just want them to direct us towards taking the side of the oppressed instead of the oppressors for once#Hope you enjoyed my longish rant I hide in the tags as usual

Oh look it's 4:20am blaze it, anyways here's an unpopular SU opinion that nobody asked for that's probably actually hypocritical in itself if you really think about it, all just because I'm currently a bundled up wreck of nerves over an unrelated thing and require something to distract myself with instead.
So with the whole movie causing people to h a t e Pink Diamond with seething passion, I've come to realize rather quickly how uncomfortable this instant, intense change of heart actually makes me and how AGGRESSIVE it can get. Don't get me wrong, I, too, am holding PD accountable for all the things she did -- her past and upbringing may explain why she acted and did the things she'd done, but that doesn't excuse it either, especially seeing how much it affected a grand scale of people. That's not what irks me in the slightest. If anything, I applaud Rebecca Sugar for how she orchestrated such complexity within this character. Pink's meant to make us reflect over her being and actions in order to clarify or redefine our morals. Like, holy shit. That's d y na m ic. Dynamic characters are my fucking jam. It butters my deliciously moist croissant when people make such complex characters. Wow.
But yeah, no, what actually makes me uncomfortable is how linear, or biased, or just... fucking straight-cut people get with how they take this character who was more or less meant to be played ambiguously and labelling them as a singlular, all-defining character trait. Y'all so passionately aggressive about it, too, cutting it straight to "she's the fucking worst because she did these things to these gems" just as quick as people shooting you down with "no it's all because she's also a victim to the system and the upbringing she was raised in". Like, guys, no, it's both. It's intricately complex. Pink Diamond isn't a victim or a villain, or good or bad. She's a dynamic character of both sides of the same coin. BOTH. You can't really weigh her worth on one side more than the other and just leave it at that. Pink Diamond is meant to be kept as a complicated discussion, not a picture-perfect example. There is so, so much more than just her upbringing and what she alone did and had become. It's also the whole hierarchical system she was born in, and how that affected all the other gems just as much as her, and how even that fueled what molded her into the things she is and is known for. She is supposed to reflect one of the many angles in real-life situations that people have un/knowingly put on others and/or have been put in themselves, and it's very, very likely that they're going to relate, possibly even place themselves in h e r shoes, so stop trying to convince others that their take on her is Wrong because it's focused rather differently. For all we know, the reason why someone can still sympathize with her is because they might feel they're in a near-same experience, fearing that they'll make decisions that'll hurt those dear in the long run, looong when it's beyond their control, and you labelling PD as a terrible, terrible person no matter what will just feed into their anxieties and fuel this paranoia on risking the chances of making horrible decisions. Just.. keep it at "she wasn't raised in a healthy/proper setting, which is why she made unhealthy/terrible decisions" when defining her as a character outside of your opinions. Give Rebecca Sugar some credit for making such interesting WORLD-BUILDING BLOCKS.
Ugh, idk, it just really grinds my gears when people are always tryna remind people that, no, we need to shed Pink Diamond in a horrible light with all the things she's done because these kinds of stuff are just Not Right and I Stand With What is Just, or paint her like the poor poor victim that didn't deserve to be abused herself and didn't even know that what she was doing was hurting others Have Mercy On Her. It ESPECIALLY pisses me off when I can't go one little trip down memory lane enjoying clips of certain parts of the series and there'd always, always be that one person who just wants to ruin it by guilt-tripping you with, "mEANWHILE, SPINEL IS STILL OUT THERE IN THE GARDEN.... WAITING PATIENTLY....... BEING OH SO LONELY..........." Like seriously, fuck off with that shit. I get having the sad epiphany, but you might as well be doing the same thing to Steven fucking Universe himself on a daily basis while you're at it when it wasn't even something that he could've controlled.
God, whatever, this shit has gotten too riled up by this point. BUT HEY. NOT THAT YOU CARE BUT NOW YOU KNOW!
