“How does one ask out a boy?”

Christine slowly looks up from her apple slices to find Rich staring at her earnestly. 

They’re on a, as Mr. Reyes likes to call them, ‘hot pocket break,’ and Rich had decided to sit by Christine to pester her about helping him with his lines because even though he’s still a pretty decent actor without his Squip, it’s a lot harder to memorize your lines when you actually have to memorize your lines. 

But Christine has faith in him even though he keeps pronouncing the name ‘Petruchio’ wrong. 

“Is this about a specific boy?” Christine asks because she really has no idea. Rich has talked about cute boys in the past and there was that huge crush he had on Michael during the second semester of junior year post-Squipcident (Jake’s coined term), but she hasn’t heard him talk about anyone in particular recently. 

But Christine and Rich had only just started becoming close friends the first semester of senior year and, for all she knows, Rich might still have it totally bad for Michael. 

Whoever it is, it makes Rich blush and stammer, “N-No. Nobody specific. Just like hypothetical.” 

“Okay,” Christine says, drawing out the word doubtfully. She hands him an apple slice, and Rich takes a bite out of it. “So, hypothetically, I’d just ask him out.”

Rich groans and falls down with his back on the ground. It’s really rather dramatic and even some of the other kids in rehearsal are giving him weird looks. Christine has to give him some credit when Rich doesn’t even seem to mind; he’s come a long way from the self-conscious freshman that Rich has sometimes told her about. 

“You’re the worst, Christine,” he grumbles. His half-eaten apple slice as fallen to the ground next to him, dirty and forgotten.

“Well, I mean, if you wanna tell me who this is really about….” she trails off, giving Rich an intentional raised-eyebrow-look. 

He sighs but scrambles back up, scooching close so that they’re pressed against each other. He glances around to make sure no one else is listening, and Christine has to ignore the urge to laugh at him. Eventually, he looks back at her and whispers, “You can’t tell anybody.”

“Rich,” she says, giving him another pointed look.

“I’m serious, Christine,” he mumbles, glancing back around again. “It’s embarrassing enough that Michael knows, so, like, this is big for me.”

Okay, so not Michael then. 

Christine holds up her hand, pinkie held out. “I promise.”

Rich frowns at her for only half a second before wrapping his own pinkie around hers. They shake on it, and Rich gets very quiet as he says, “It’s Jeremy.”

“Oh my god!” Christine exclaims. She’s bouncing up and down, jerking Rich’s arm where their pinkies are still connected. She drags him close and says, again, “Oh my god!”

Rich quickly shushes her, pulling his hand away. “Okay, okay! Stop! Chill!”

“But it’s just so great,” she says, but she does make sure her voice is a little quieter. “I mean, you and Jeremy! Rich!”

“I know, I know,” he says, reaching forward to grab her hands from where they’re flailing with excitement. He’s flushing a deep red now, blush traveling all the way from his cheeks and down to his throat. “But we gotta keep it a secret, remember?”

“No, I know, I know,” Christine says, nodding seriously. Then she’s grinning again. “But c’mon! You and Jeremy!”

“It’s not even a thing,” Rich says quickly. “Just, like, a crush. I don’t even know if he’d like me back. I mean, I know we’re friends and all now, but I still treated him like human garbage...like, all of the time.”

“Yeah,” Christine says softly. She readjusts Rich’s grip on her wrists so that she’s holding his hands. She squeezes them. “But you guys have talked all that out, right? I mean, we all know it wasn’t you doing all that stuff, Rich.”

“It wasn’t entirely me,” Rich corrects, just as softly. 

“Still,” she presses. “I mean, I forgave Jeremy, remember? Sure, we only dated for a month, but still. You guys are already killing it with the communication part.”

Rich bites back a grin. “We kind of are, aren’t we?”

“Totally!” Christine beams at him. 

Rich groans again, less dramatically, and leans forward until his forehead is resting on Christine’s shoulder. “He’s just so cute, Christine. Like a total fucking dork, but in a good way. Did you know that yesterday he just brought me a Mountain Dew Red to school? But only because he was having a bad day and they make him feel better, so he thought he’d bring me one too just in case. Do you know how expensive those old, gross ass sodas are?”

“Yeah, he’s really sweet,” Christine says, reaching up to play with Rich’s hair.

Before her hand is able to make it, Rich pulls back, eyes wide. “Oh god. It’s okay that I told you, right? Like I know you two dated, and like, it’s totally okay if you still have feelings for him o-or-.”

“Rich,” she interrupts softly, grinning at him. “I don’t have feelings for Jeremy anymore. At least, no more than platonic feelings.”

“Oh, okay,” he says and then smiles at her nervously. “So do you think he could, I dunno, like me back?”

In all honesty, Christine has no idea. Jeremy did only just recently come out as bi, and he and Rich do have a bit of an iffy past even though she’s pretty sure they’ve thoroughly worked it out. But also she knows how determined Jeremy was to be Rich’s friend after he got out of the hospital - almost nearly as determined as she was. And she also knows how much Jeremy genuinely enjoys spending time with Rich. 

But she also knows that Jeremy is one of the most complicated people on the face of the planet even though he constantly tries his best not to be. 

So she says, “Maybe.”

And adds a little nod for effort.

But apparently that’s enough because Rich gets a little, tiny grin on his face and says, “Cool.”

Then he’s leaning back against her and Christine forces him to wrap an arm around her shoulders so she can cuddle up next to him while she finishes up her apple slices before Mr. Reyes returns.

She’s almost fully comfortable when she realizes, “Wait, you told Michael before you told me?”

“Uh…”

Only 4 elements can enter the multiverse: Slime (The Lich & Jevin), Redstone (Tango or Mumbo?), Ice (Stress), and Dirt (Grian, much to his dismay). Only the elementals can see the book. Grian's the protagonist with his sidekick Scar. He originally started collecting the belts because they were shiny but eventually decided to read the book and find out what they were for when Scar said he didn't see it. Doc, False, and Iskall are major obstacles because they don't believe the book exists.</p>

-Demon AU :: Something enters the overworld and turns into a supernatural style-demon through Dimentional Distortion. Who gets posessed first, who goes crazy, and who actually kills it? Honestly I think that, if anything, Tango would know how to gank it, for obvious reasons. (-@fireflower-dusk.)

-High Street AU :: Everyone owns a different shop on the same street or some run a shop together (-@violets-arepurple.)

-Cat AU :: Either they're were always cats, or Hels turned everyone, including himself, into a cat, and they have to survive and overcome challenges in the Season 7 world. An example of a challenge would be Cub's a Sand Cat(the cats that always look like kittens no matter how old they are and live in deserts), and everyone's not sure if he can actually swim, so they have to find a way for him to get around without involving water. -How about a secret AU.. Every hermit has their big secrets and when Grian joined. He doesn't really know anything about those secrets even till season 7. Not many hermits talked to him in S6 anyway.. Mumbo was the closest to him so they would have regular chats For Iskall is mostly business related things Grian wants to know why so he set out on a quest to force the others to at least talk to him so he wouldn't be lonely. -Hermit Family AU :: Xisuma is very busy dad but when he isnt busy the kids and younger hermits annoying the hell out of him. Grian once asked to use Xisuma's computer and crashed the whole thing trying to download illegal gamesites and get money off the internet. He's not the tallest person ever, but that doesn't stop him from constantly making fun of your height. At any opportunity, he'll rest his arm on top of your head to make you mad, but then he'll tuck you under his chin and wrap his arms around you 😍

He totally understands having a short temper. He also has ADHD so he's very patient with you because he understands what it's like to get frustrated. Any chance he gets, he'll joke and tease you, but will back off if you get uncomfortable

He is always willing to listen to any and all stories you make up. Whether you're laying on the hood of his car and just making something up as you go along, or nervously watching as he reads the latest thing you've written, he is always attentive and excited to hear what happens next

Albert is a really good dancer and if he sees you dancing he will 100% run up to you, take you in his arms, and dance with you. Doesn't matter what style, doesn't matter if there's no music. He just loves being happy and carefree with you

He doesn't read much but he loves how passionate you are for reading. He's always buying books he thinks you'll like and taking you on dates to various bookstores. Even though its not really his thing, he knows it makes you happy and that's all that matters to him

This shy, "too cool for school" motherfucker won't publicly partake in certain activities because he doesn't want anyone to make fun of him. But behind the scenes, and unbeknownst to you, he's been taking dance lessons so he can take you out dancing for your birthday. (Somewhere out of town and far away from anyone who knows him, of course)

He's fairly handy with a computer and likes making graphics sometimes. So when you read one of your stories to him, he sets about making the characters come to life and just kind of shyly sends you the finished result. He's not good with words so he doesn't make a big deal about it, but it took him a long time to complete

He's always coming up with new nicknames to call you and they're usually centered around your height. His favorites are "Smurfette" and "Hold me closer, tiny dancer."

He always carries around an extra pair of glasses for you. He understands that contacts can be irritating at times, so he always has your spares on hand. Plus he thinks you look super cute in them and loves the way you laugh when both of your glasses bump when you kiss

If you ever need help with schoolwork Jared is always willing to be your tutor. Though he will get a little fun out of it. "First, tell me that I'm the smartest, sexiest, most good looking tutor in all the land!" Sometimes you wonder why you don't just ask the teacher for help instead

BMC:

I ship you with Michael!

He's always holding onto you in some way. He's constantly pulling you into his lap, slinging his arm around your shoulders, literally just lifting you up and carrying you cuz why not? He likes that you're small so he can always have you close to him

If you ever have to wear glasses for whatever reason, Michael just melts. He thinks you look so adorable and takes so many pictures of the two of you to capture the moment before you go back to contacts

He speaks Spanish as well so sometimes when it's just the two of you, you'll speak primarily in Spanish. And sometimes you'll do it around your friends just to get a laugh out of their confused expressions

He's always up for anything. Wanna run around on the nearest playground like children? Done. Wanna stay inside and read? He'll be right next to you reading a comic book, insisting that it totally counts as reading!

If your ADHD ever makes you fidgety he'll just discreetly take your hand in his. He also lets you play with his hair or the strings on his hoodie. He says it's to help you but he also just likes the closeness

Hi! I'm still kinda new to the blog and I was wondering what are the 'do and do-not' kind question I should do? Because im sure theres always that one ask thats just Innapropiated, like that one of Michael 'taking advantage og high Jeremy' that was just not cool.  i got this ask a lot so ill be clear with yall. im just not a big angst fan? so sending michael asks about his anxiety nonstop and about how he had a panic attack in the bathroom over and over again wasnt that fun. usually if it pertains the musical though you should be find sending an ask about it? but sometimes i get asks that are like “jeremy ur nothing and how does it feel knowing u fucked everything up” like homie how i think its feels? how u think hes gunna react to that? i made this blog to negate a lot of negativity in my own life so i can promise u im going to be answering asks mostly positive always forever. that being said tho i sometimes get asks pertaining to a few things that ive dealt with in the past and these topics make me very very uncomfortable. dont send asks about these topics please. this is the no no list

What was your inspiration for this blog? hoo boy well,,, ultimately i thought of them rooming together and got emotional and made a huge list of headcanons and was like ,,, why not run an askblog for a bit ill just abandon it after three asks lets have some fun. but somehow im still here and i got sucked in by the complexity of michael and jeremy. i know that sounds kinda silly but just, as someone who is dealing with a lot of similar things, like dependency issues and abandonment issues and depression and anxiety, having these fun functioning character to explore was such a gift for me. i believe honestly thats why im still here and doing this. being able to try and portray a healthy relationship and a healthy way of coping and growing has helped me a lot this past month and given me an outlet i didnt have before. TBH THO the main reason i made this blog if imma be real with u guys id because i didnt like the treatment of a lot of these issues in the fandom. it made me very upset to see depression used as an plot device and michaels dependency issues treated as romantic so i wanted to make a blog that had little to no angst. ANYWAYS somehow im still here ,,, gvrkjvrnkjfd sorry i rambled

honestly I just wanna say first that I love his blog and your art and you're so cool and kind!! a question would be (I'm not sure if you've answered this before or not) but is there like an on going story here, or is it mostly just answering questions with the characters set in this universe? i know this has been said before but i'm really really happy w how you're handling so many aspects of their characters. i.e. michael being trans, michael and jeremy's anxiety, michael's dependency issues, and other stuff i'm too tired to think of. you made the characters have even more depth than they did in the play and i'm rly grateful for the way you're dealing w my favorite boys. (also your richjake is suuuper adorable) ahhhhhh thank u so much? i talked a bit about this on my main but im really glad people are happy with my decision on this blog because im suPER SUPER NERvous anytime i post an ask dealing with these things. how come you just use sketch form for most of your drawing (sketches and uses sketch for the final result)? im ,,, not really sure what this is asking but i thnk its along the lines of why do i only sketch my answers?? and i do that because dude do u see how often i post and how lONG some of them are. i made this blog for fun and i love doing comics but i hate lineart and coloring and if i tried to churn out finished pics for every post id defs have given up a few asks in,, shrugs

I want to say I love your little comics they're so funny! How long does it take you to make a comic? Are any of them based on your experiences? Ok have a nice day!  thank you! i love my little comics too! it usually takes me anywhere from an hour to five hours if im dragging my ass or talking on discord while im drawing. it can be kinda exhausting but since i took my break ive also been like, starting long comics one day and finishing them another day which, before i would do it all in one sitting then post it hahha. AS FOR EXPERIENCE the first half of the lifeguard comic was based on real life! we were stuck stoned up there for like an hour or two? but we didnt have anyone to help us but we got down eventually!! the wendys comic is also something i did because man!! i need to compliment food workers if they do a good job!! ummmmm just like jenna i also have a friend that said HAHA BYE and moved to cali and she is also lIVING IT UP and doing really well for herself and shes very independent and shes very inspiring to me! hmm i think thats it besides i used to have movie nights with my dad all the time too except we would watch my fave animated movies and sometimes lord of the rings cause my dad loved that

an art style question. how do you keep the design of characters consistent from frame to frame? my characters they look a lil different every time I draw em (or a lot different) and it tends to disrupt the flow of my comics/animations ohh boy hoo wee props for doing animations im too scared to give that a whirl but!! it helps that i draw all the panels for an ask on one canvas! so if my next panel is going to be the same character in the same spot just in a diff pose i keep the lower layer on just at low opacity so i can use it as a ref! that helps me a lot!

How to Brew A Crowd Pleaser

We have all been there. There is an event coming up that you want, or have been asked, to brew a beer for, and you want to brew up something that sets itself apart from the light lagers that so many are fond of while remaining accessible to those same light lager drinkers. It is a delicate balance, but with some forethought, you can brew an ale that delights the palate of everyone at that next big event, regardless of what they normally drink.

What Makes an Ale a Crowd Pleaser?

Now, when we say a crowd pleaser, we know what we really mean; a beer that our macro-lager drinking friends and family will enjoy, while packing in character that craft beer drinkers will appreciate, striking a nice balance between the two. Aside from style, which we will get to in the next section, there are four main characteristics that make for a beer that will be loved by all.

Light – This is perhaps the most critical factor because one of the chief complaints about craft beer that I hear from BMC drinkers is that its mouthfeel is too heavy. You do not need your beer to be bone dry, but you should aim for your beer to be medium-bodied or lighter.

Refreshing – Imagine a beer that you would want to drink after mowing the lawn on a hot summer day, and that is how refreshing your beer should be. And nothing makes a beer more refreshing than being effervescent from higher than average levels of carbonation. 2.7 – 3.2 volumes of CO2 should be sufficient without over-carbonating your beer.

Low Hops – Your beer does not need to be devoid of hops, but to make the beer as accessible as possible to as many drinkers as possible, you should use a light hand when administering your hops. A light bittering charge followed by an equally light flavor charge. The way I think about hopping a beer like this is that the casual drinker should be able to taste the hops without being able to identify the flavor as coming from hops.

Low Alcohol – This is not a strict requirement, but if we are being honest, part of the draw of BMC is its session-able nature, and you can use that to your advantage in designing a crowd pleaser of an ale. Between that and the fact that session beers are becoming more and more popular among craft beer drinkers, it is hard to go wrong in keeping your beer in the neighborhood of 5% ABV or less.

Crowd Pleasing Beer Styles

We all know there are a multitude of styles to choose from, and many of them — too many to write about in this article — could theoretically be made into a crowd pleasing ale. However, there a few styles that lend themselves particularly well to pleasing crowds, and that is because of their inherent conformance to the above-mentioned characteristics. Here are some styles that work well as crowd pleasing ales:

Blonde – Just about anyone who likes beer will drink a blonde ale. A great style to choose when you want to maximize your chances of success, while having a bit of latitude to add some character. Kölsch – This choice is a bit bolder, but still very doable. I brewed a Kölsch for my brother’s wedding, and it was a resounding success despite the extra punch of flavor Kölsch yeast imparts to the beer. Cream Ale – Another solid choice that is hard to go wrong with. This style is about the closest you are going to get to BMC without dipping down into lager territory. While you are, of course, not bound by the style guidelines in home brewing, if you are going to stay true to style, this one has the least amount of wiggle room in terms of adding character. American Wheat – I like doing this style as a crowd pleaser because you get a beer that is akin to a German hefeweizen, just without all the banana and clove yeast character that is likely to scare off non-craft beer drinkers.

As I said, this list is far from exhaustive, but for your first foray into brewing for the widest audience possible, these are the styles that I feel you are most likely to have success with.

Technical Considerations

Now, for the fun part! How do we actually design our recipes to achieve the characteristics listed above? There are several technical considerations that go into designing a recipe for a crowd pleasing ale, and while they are all fairly straightforward taken individually, getting them to play well together in a way that will tickle anyone’s taste buds is the true art of brewing a crowd pleasing ale.

Grain Selection – Depending on the crowd you are trying to please, bold flavors may be appropriate, but for the purposes of this article, we are trying to brew for the widest audience possible, so that means light grains are the theme of the day. Feel free to experiment, of course, but in my own brewing, I have found that the lighter in color the beer, the more likely the non-craft drinking public are to enjoy your beer. That is why I generally stick to the lightest grains, and add character by adjusting other parts of the recipe. Here are some staple grains that I use when brewing a beer that anyone can drink:

Pilsner

Pale Ale

American 2-row

Marris Otter

Golden Promise

Amount of Grain – In keeping with the goal of staying under 5% ABV in your beer, you are not going to be using a whole lot of grain. It is going to vary, of course, based on the efficiency of your system, and the exact grains you use, but generally you will not be using any more than 10 pounds of grain for a five gallon batch at 75% brew house efficiency, which is how my system performs.

Mash Temperature – To achieve the light to medium body that we are looking for, we need to keep our mash temperature low, but not so low that it results in a bone dry beer. Without getting into the science behind mash temperature (to which I could devote an entire article), the basic principle is that lower mash temperatures result in a wort with more fermentable sugar than the same mash at a higher temperature. Thus, a higher mash temperature will result in a beer with more body, which we are not looking for here. The ideal mash temperature range to achieve the body we are after, in my experience, is 149 – 153 F (65 – 67.2 C).

Hopping Schedule – We are keeping our hop character low for these beers. Remember, to the casual drinker, the hops should be detectable, but not identifiable as hops. You are going to want a small bittering charge to balance the low malt sweetness, and then a small flavor charge to add a bit of hop character without being overpowering. You generally want to choose hops on the lower end of the alpha acid scale so that if you accidentally use too much, it won’t affect the beer as much as a higher alpha acid hop variety. Which hop varieties you use is up to you, but in in general, the safer option is to avoid the fruitier hops. However, given the sheer number of hop varieties, and their associated characteristics, experimentation will often lead to some amazing beers that still please a wide variety of palates.

Yeast – This part of the recipe is easy, but worth mentioning for completeness’s sake. Any clean fermenting, medium to high attenuating yeast strain will do very well, such as California Ale, American Ale, US-05, or Kölsch (if you decide to brew a Kölsch). Again, feel free to experiment because you can turn a run-of-the-mill beer into a great, yet still crowd pleasing, beer just by changing the yeast to one that throws some esters and adds a little extra depth.

Example Recipes Sure to Be a Crowd Pleaser

Here are two recipes of my own that saw great success and high praise from even the most staunchly anti-craft beer drinkers I know. The first one is a blonde ale recipe that I designed for the brewery that I am co-founding, which got rave reviews at our first tasting event open to the general public. The second one is the Kölsch that I brewed for my brother’s wedding some years ago that even my Bud Light-for-life aunt enjoyed. I would love to hear from anyone who brews these, or any other recipe based off of the information in this article, and whether they were successful in pleasing your particular crowd. Cheers!

I DONT DO ANGST FOR THE SAKE OF ANGST if i end up posting sad things its because its what the boys are feelin in a story line but for the most part this is a happy happy blog. i have a lot of shit going on in my own life and i know some people use their ask blogs or art to draw out their venting and that is very good and healthy usually and i support you! but that isnt my way of coping and this blog will not have angst. dont prompt me for angst homies and stop trying to throw triggers out there to make me make a sad post. there are a lot of good blogs than can fill ur bmc angst needs!!
