Okay, so that ending. Whether you like it or not, it had me personally shook. Now, I’ve been seeing a lot of “they’re still in the game” theories floating around, and I 100% support them. In fact, that’s what I plan on elaborating here.

Okay, so I’ll be referring to two “games” here. For ease of understanding, when I say “the smaller game”, I mean the game that Kai, Mira, and Adam exited at the very end of episode ten when everything became live-action. When I say “the bigger game”, I mean the game that I believe the gang is still in, despite having exited the smaller game.

Okay, so there’s plenty of evidence for them still being in a (the?) bigger game – first and foremost being Vanessa’s eye at the end. Whether it implies that she was the CAUSE of the smaller game’s glitching or simply a way by the showrunners to show the audience that they weren’t quite done yet, it definitely implies that they’re still in, though not the smaller game, a game. However, another thing that I saw pointed out that points to the existence of the bigger game is the post someone made (link to it if you know which one I’m talking about!) about how, once the gang exits the smaller game, the camera cuts to shots of the audience a lot, and how, just like in many video games, a lot of the “NPC”s in the audience are repeated – like they’ve been copied and pasted, almost, as a way to “cut down on the animation costs”.

So, sure, there’s evidence to support the existence of the bigger game. But what does it mean? And more importantly, if “The Hollow” isn’t just some game show the main gang signed up to be on, then what is it, exactly?

Now, I don’t know the answers to either of those questions. But I can make some predictions as to where the show (if it gets renewed for a s2) could go from here.

1. You guys know how, in Super Mario Bros, there are different worlds, and different levels within each world? I think the bigger game is a little something like that. Each season of the show is a world, and you “win” each world by exiting it. At the end of season 1, the gang beat world 1, and now they’re in world 2. Now, that raises the questions of how many worlds there are, how the gang got into the worlds in the first place, etc., but again, this is just theoretical.

2. Since the gang are “the winners of the game”, I think (*cough* hope) that the gang will be offered a “behind the scenes of the game” tour as part of their prize. (weird guy is the tour guide, he and grandma tree are co-creators of the game, and death is the development team guy who created all the npc enemies in the game and super reluctantly ended up with a cameo bc he and weird guy are buds and weirdy dragged him into it i mean w h a t - )

3. I strongly believe that, near the beginning of s2, after the whole “yay we won the game” celebrations have died down and the gang is alone with one another, someone will turn to the others and say something along the lines of, “okay, that was really fun, but we should probably head home soon, right guys?”. And the others will agree until someone (my money’s on Kai) puts their hand up slowly and asks “Wait a second. Is it just me, or can neither of you remember where home is, either?”. That’ll be the point when they start to suspect that either they’re not out of the game yet or some other theory – maybe returning to their government experiment theory? I want a Matrix reference, either way.

Okay finally, I have a couple questions. First off, what caused the glitches? Were they purposefully put into the smaller game? If so, by who? Will they persist in the bigger game? Hell, what if they (or whoever put them in) are the main antagonist all along?

well, I guess we’ll find out eventually.

Tl;dr: they’re still in the game – just a bigger one. Like in Super Mario Bros, right now the main gang is on World Two of this game, and the animated bit was World One. I think they’re still not gonna remember what their homes are, and that’ll be what’s gonna get them suspicious. Also, I want Weird Guy being a tour guide. Just sayin’.
