favorite fictional characters: Laurent. Not to say the other capri characters aren’t precious, but I never identified strongly with a fictional character until Laurent. It was so oddly refreshing and simultaneously intrusive to have his actions and dialogues match what I would have done or said. There are also parallels in background and upbringing.
Honorable mentions go to: Richard Campbell Gansey III, Mello, Helga Pataki, Yuri Plisetsky, Anita Blake (before that series went to shit), Sanji, Molly the dog, Calcifer, all the Haikyuu characters, Barbara Gordon, and Lestat. (I like a lot of emotionally constipated blonds)

Hey, have been reading your blog and it is the kind of goldmine I’d brave the dangers of the Klondike for. It is SO GOOD. But I’m also curious on your thoughts on Endeavor playing god, but not understanding the science behind his creations? He seems to think Shouto has an Icyhot Quirk when it’s more likely Shouto is a Chimera. He has two phenotypes, thus one side can only use Icy and the other can only use Fire. Shouto like has TWO Quirks instead of a combination of both. And Enji seems to think Touya inherited Rei’s constitution, yet that might not be the case as according to the Singularity Theory, humans’ Quirks are evolving at a faster pace than the body can keep up with. So Touya might not even HAVE his mother’s constitution but Endeavor just THINKS he does. Also, there is his rivalry with All Might that is completely one-sided. Allmight as All For One which is the Quirk of not a single person but more eight Quirks in one. Endeavor thinks he’s going up against a single man when in reality he’s facing eight men in one.
Hello! First of all I’d like to give a huge apology for how late my response is. Due to the start of the spring semester and some other unexpected life events, this took way longer than expected.
Thank you so much for your kind comments! 😩💕 It really did put a huge smile on my face and it made my day! It makes me feel very giddy~ When I first started posting on Tumblr, I wasn’t expecting people to actually like or even read the stuff I was writing about or send messages to my inbox since most of my posts kind of make me look like the guy in this meme here:
I very much appreciate all the comments and asks I receive in my inbox, so thank you for sending yours in.
Anyways, I’d like to address this from the beginning but, unfortunately when it comes to quirks and how they work, I’m not too sure if I will be able to answer your questions properly. For example I am aware of the Quirk Singularity Theory but I don’t know if I have a good enough understanding of it to form a response I am confident in.. That being said, I will try to answer your other questions and comments the best I can.
Endeavor Playing God
So, what are my thoughts on Endeavor playing god, but not understanding the science behind his creations? Back when we had the Touya reveal and we got more information about the Todoroki household from the perspective of Todoroki Enji, there were a lot of differing thoughts and opinions about the flashbacks that were floating around Tumblr. I think if I were to give a simple answer to your question, I’d say it was Endeavor’s youth and stubbornness. Looking back at Chapter 291, we can see that Endeavor looks quite young in the flashbacks with Touya, but I’m going to attempt to do the math.
Seeing that we know that Fuyumi is currently 23, and that Dabi is older than her (I suck at guessing ages) and I’m guessing here that he’s going to be four years or older, since quirks normally manifest around four years of age. That being stated the youngest age Dabi may be currently is 27? Maybe 26.
Keep in mind that I may be off with the “math” I’m doing here but let’s guestimate Dabi’s age as being 26 or 27. Endeavor is currently 46 years old so that means he was 19 or 20 years old when he had Touya. For comparison, Natsuo is currently 19 years old as well.
At that young of an age, he already had his eyes set on wanting to surpass All Might. His hero name, Endeavor, summarizes his career pretty well: an attempt to achieve a goal.
With the hellflame quirk he has, and the wealth and power that came with his family name, he really was given a position to act as a “god.” For the sake of his ambitions, Touya, Fuyumi, Natsuo and Shouto were born, as his “creations.”
Touya’s “Weak Constitution” and Shouto’s Quirk
I’m not going to say that his youth was the main factor for why things happened the way they did because the answer is more complex, but I do think that a combination of his youth and stubbornness fueled Endeavor’s recklessness. He essentially bought his marriage with Rei in order to pass down some sort of combination of the hellflame quirk and Rei’s ice quirk to his children. I think when it comes to the question of whether he understood the science behind what he was doing, I think I can confidently say that he didn’t know in the beginning, or at least it was not something he really looked in to. I think he just saw it as hellflame + ice quirk = child with both quirks as we kind of see in the panel below.
As you state, Endeavor does see the combination of the two quirks as one. We can see below that he refers to it as, “the ideal quirk.”
I think that it is also important to point out that Endeavor was, I guess you could say, content when Touya was born even though he only had the hellflame quirk. From the first panel, Endeavor states, “the fire power he possessed was greater than my own.”
He continues to say, “He didn’t have a way to overcome the inescapable downside of overheating but... I nevertheless sought to raise the boy to be a hero.”
That was until it was revealed that Touya’s body could not handle the extreme heat which came with the hellflame quirk. This is when Endeavor began to refer to Touya’s “weakness” as inheriting Rei’s weak constitution.
Now, the Quirk Singularity Theory and just the genetic science behind quirks has always been kind of difficult for me to wrap my mind around so because of that I do not think that I will be able to give an opinion on it that I would be confident in. However, @/redphlox has a post which has some opinions that I agree with that have to do with Endeavor’s belief that Touya had “a weak constitution and Shouto’s quirk. I will link it here.
As for Shouto’s quirk, unless the actual meaning and its nuances was lost in translation, his quirk is referred to as “Half-Cold Half Hot” in the English official translation which I think further reinforces the idea that it is not really a singular quirk but a combination of two separate quirks. I agree that Shouto is most likely a Chimera.
According to Britannica, a chimera is:
In genetics, an organism or tissue that contains at least two different sets of DNA, most often originating from the fusion of a many different zygotes.
The term is derived from the chimera of Greek mythology: a fire-breathing monster that was part lion, part goat, and part dragon.
As seen below we can see the white hair, gray eye and ice quirk on his right side (our left) that he inherited from his mother Rei, and then on his left side (our right), the red hair, teal blue eye and hellflame quirk he inherited from his father Enji. He can only use his ice quirk on his right side and his fire quirk on his right side.
Shouto’s appearance reminds me of a particular tortoiseshell cat named Venus from a while back. You may have seen her back when photos of her went viral. Tortoiseshell cats are usually chimeras, however Venus was nicknamed the “Chimera Kitten” or “Chimera Cat” even though it is most likely that the chimera mutation isn’t the cause behind her unique (and cute!) appearance.
Another definition of a chimera is:
“A chimera... is a composite individual that was made up of cells from at least two different original embryos. If they fuse together early enough, they will become a single organism whose genetic input is from two completely different individuals. In a mosaic, there’s only one individual and it just happens to have different genetic components active in its cells. A chimera would be a much more unusual and unlikely event. - Columbia University Professor of Genetics and Development Virginia Papaioannaou
The image above depicts Venus the cat however the original source of the photo is unknown.
Considering that in real life, a chimera is an individual made up of cells from at least two different embryos I think we could kind of apply that sort of argument to Shouto although this is all speculation. To our knowledge, the other Todoroki children were born with only one of their parents’ quirks while Shouto was born with both.
On Shouto’s fan wiki page, it states:
If he overuses one element without utilizing the other, then his own body temperature will suffer; the ice half will cause frostbite and the fire half will cause heatstroke, Until his bodily limit is reached however, neither has any visible effect on his body. Shouto can easily negate his weakness by alternating between ice and fire.
Endeavor had been training Shouto to use his fireside and I think he mostly saw the ice quirk as something that could be used for temperature regulation however, as you suggest Shouto has two separate quirks, both equally strong in their own right. If he used his ice quirk too much, he may have to rely on the hellflame quirk to regulate his body temperature. Both quirks have very high potential on their own and with the aid of the other.
Anyways going back to the Chimera stuff, I think that although the movie, Heroes Rising isn’t canon, I do think that the inclusion of the villain, Kon Chojuro going by the name of “Chimera” with the quirk of the same name was interesting. He also fits the second definition of the Greek mythological chimera that we had above.
Even more interesting was that it was with the team of Tenya, Kirishima, Asui and Shouto that took Chimera on, with Shouto making the last blow using his ice quirk. He takes his ice quirk to the extreme and we see his body covered in ice (frostbite?) as a result before he passes out.
All Might and Endeavor’s One-Sided Rivalry
Whenever I write about this particular character I feel that I must include a little note like this but everything you see above is not an excuse for what Endeavor has done but a little exploration in to the complexity that is Todoroki Enji. I personally think that he is a very interesting character to look in to.
As you mention, the rivalry between Endeavor and All Might was completely one-sided. I think a large part behind it had to do with their differing ideas of what it means to be a hero. It is from All Might where we tended to see the more ideal-focused concepts of a hero. He was the symbol of peace, the light of hope and an inspiration for children and people all across Japan. In simple terms, a hero is someone who saves, kind of like how we saw Midoriya throughout most of the series.
As for Endeavor, he fits more in the role of the concept of a hero being an occupation. He had a hard time trying to figure out how to portray himself to the public after All Might retires and even asks him for some advice of what it means to be the number one. Endeavor wanted to be the number one because that meant he is the strongest man/person in Japan. He was constantly training and he was so focused on wanting to achieve his goal that if he was not able to then he wanted to make sure that his own blood would surpass All Might. For him, simple terms a hero meant someone who surpasses and wins. This is kind of like how we saw Bakugo throughout most of the series until recently.
(I’m not going to go too deep in to this as many other blogs have written amazing analysis and meta posts on Tumblr already but the adults they are often compared to Midoriya and Bakugo’s storylines have been slowly changing to incorporate both saving and winning in to what it means to be a hero.)
With this one-sided rivalry came Endeavor’s recklessness. I do not think that before and early stages after Touya was born that he really considered the science behind his “creation.” However as soon as it was revealed that Touya could easily get harmed by his quirk, Endeavor definitely should have recognized the consequences of his actions.
As his hero name suggests, one of his main goals and purposes of being a hero was to accomplish his greatest endeavor, to surpass All Might, which he calls his “eternal goal.” There is an implication here that at the age of 19 Endeavor already believed that there was a good chance that he may not be able to surpass All Might with his own quirk and strength. That is why he sought out a Quirk marriage.
“Because Toya had more potential than me... I placed my ambitions on his shoulders.”
Endeavor has a bias towards his own quirk as he wanted an heir with his quirk and blood to become number one. Fuyumi was born and she had inherited Rei’s ice quirk but unless we get some sort of explanation, I think we can assume that Endeavor did not bother trying to training her. I think the same can be said about Natsuo.
Then Shouto was born and this changed a lot of things. It seems that there was a highly likely chance that Endeavor either greatly diminished his focus on or halted Touya’s training and turned his attention towards Shouto. After all, he was born with what Endeavor believed to be “the ideal quirk.” He probably saw more potential in Shouto carrying his legacy than he did in Touya to become number one. It is likely that it was during this time that Touya “perished” in the fire.
Now that Endeavor had lost Touya, he was only left with Shouto. Driven by grief and desperation he put everything he had now onto Shouto. Looking back to Chapter 252, Endeavor tells Natsuo:
“Believe it or not... I was never trying to neglect any of you. But... all I could do was blame others and dodge responsibility.”
His actions and the past state otherwise however if we take his word, then I kind of visualize a man who was aware of the consequences and hurt caused by his actions and cruelty but had refused to actually acknowledge it: whether it was because he was afraid to confront reality, a mix of his stubbornness and desperation, the desire to become number one surpassing every other desire or a combination of all of this.
I always got a feeling from his character that he was someone who chose to believe that “the end would justify the means” as he “lost more” if that makes sense. “Everything that happened could not be all in vain” (although I’d like to point out that acting in this way is very selfish of him) which is why he continued to keep his eyes on the horizon at his goal instead of towards his family.
As you state, Endeavor was going up against All Might, the carrier of the One for All quirk, and yes, it is interesting that kind of like All for One, it is the carrier of multiple quirks. One of the main differences between how the two quirks function is that one has the ability to pass on quirks and power while the other is the ability to take other quirks and powers. Unfortunately, unless the secret of AFO and OFA come to be known to the public, Endeavor would have never known what he was truly up against and in a nihilistic view, one can say that everything he was and did ended in vain.
Although I would argue otherwise as this implies the assumption that the birth and existence of the Todoroki children would then had also been “in vain.” This is not true. This would imply that they would only be an extension of his legacy. We see the struggle to separate ones’ identity from their parent and their “destiny” through the contrasting stories of Shouto and Touya.
In the end, Endeavor did become the number one hero although it was not in the way he envisioned it to be: it was given to him as he was the next in line as the number two hero due to All Might’s retirement. He didn’t win the position by surpassing All Might hence the embarrassment and anger he may have felt when the news was announced. Now that he is (ehhh maybe was? considering where we are in the manga) the number one hero, it seems like that everything he’s been doing and thinking keeps going back to the thought of “because I am the number one hero.” The position he worked hard for, trained hard for and hurt his family for across the decades of his life, forfeited to him by the previous symbol of peace.
I always return back to the High End vs Endeavor fight whenever I talk about him but that is because there are great symbolic and narrative points that are made during it. Again, it is what establishes him as the number one hero but this is also where he acknowledges the past (however to what extent is debatable).
I remember when the episode first came out back in 2020, anime watchers were going crazy. It felt like with some viewers, they focused more on the action than the narrative that was taking place. The reason why Endeavor flies so high and captures the hearts and support of the people of Japan in BNHA and a wide majority of us, the watching audience, is so that we can feel the blow later on when he plummets down. Even when I was watching it, I couldn’t help getting goosebumps while listening to the ost and seeing the way the manga panels were interpreted and animated.
While I had been reading the chapters which I did first, I did not even really care about what was going on. I just kind of brushed Endeavor off to the side at the time. However when I was watching it I even got a little emotional, although I’d like to blame that on the fact that I had just finished a really difficult semester and watching the episodes felt like a cathartic release of stress (hahaha). It was only afterwards I went back to actually re-read and look at what was going on in the manga.
I hope that I gave the answers, thoughts and opinions that you were looking for. Again, huge apology for answering your questions and comments really late. Thank you @thewilderstorm for sending your thoughts in, I truly appreciate it and loved responding to them!

1a, 1c and 5f?
thanks for the ask anon!! uhhh my answers are all gonna relate to ZTD because it’s my favorite though lmao
1a. Favorite character - Mira! I like to think that Mira and Eric are tied because I love them both and I love their dynamic, but Mira gains the edge because I wound up doing so much analysis on her - particularly gaps that the canon leaves to fill. If you’re new to my tumblr, this is my magnum opus ! But there’s also my genius head canons like her day job being a flight attendant for Delta Airlines.
1c. Favorite escape room - Pod room! The way you whack the room around with the hammer is really interesting, and I really enjoyed the sweet moment with Sean and Eric at the beginning and the way they interact like dumb siblings throughout it. It’s also good because you learn about Eric’s PTSD and see him triggered by the parallels between how Mira and Chris died... it puts all of his actions in perspective. And of course, messing with Eric by giving him every answer you can think of in that one part is one of the meme goldmines in ZTD, but then the answer being admitting you don’t know is kind of a soft, fitting and underrated decision puzzle. Honestly I really like this timeline’s writing in general. The ‘Shoot me, I won’t die’ scene is so good.
5f. Rant about something you disliked from the games - D END 2 IS COMPLETELY UPSETTING AND NOT ROMANTIC AT ALL. I absolutely hate that Sigma slaps Diana mere minutes after revealing her abuse backstory, and how they inevitably have sex when she’s so plastered even he says she’s not herself and refused it earlier on that basis. And that’s not even getting into how angry it made me that Phi was their daughter. Honestly I wanted Diana/Phi after their DCOM scene in Fire, and with how Sigma was like ‘Diana is just like Luna, and I see Luna as my daughter,’ that grossed me even more that they got together romantically, not to mention that he was mentally 60 and Diana was half his age. Uggggh...... I loved D Team for most of the game, but this ruined them for me. Even ignoring that I thought that scene was horrible, Phi deserved so much better in terms of backstory. Like... at least give her some spotlight in this instead of putting it all on Delta! Why the hell would you not make old lady Phi be Zero then?? That would have been way more interesting at least.
man.... I wish you’d given me one more question so this could be a compliment sandwich, what a dramatically sour note to end on :’D oh well. have an unrelated meme about G-OLM rights

For the fanfic author meme: 3, 13, 21, 22 and 23
3. In your opinion, what is your best fic?
I think Case Closed, an oldie but a goodie
13. What’s the biggest change between your style when you started in fandom and today?
I technically started writing YEARS ago before taking a break for like 6 years, so i’ve definitley learned how to actually write and compose a narrative, but i think additionally I’ve learned how to actually analyze and interpret characters and portray them in ways that aren’t flat caricatures (at least, better than I had when i was like 13)
i’ve also recently started writing fluff which just... wasn’t a thing before
21. If someone starts kudosing and commenting your fics in a spree and has a few works of their own, would you go look through theirs?
probably! if they’re for a fandom i’m in!
22. Has there ever been anyone who’s made you freak out because they read your work and followed/favorited/reviewed?
honestly i’m still surprised anyone does?? but there have definitely been a few “names” or well known creators within the fandom that have shown up in my inbox and made me go !!!
23. What’s the nicest review you’ve ever gotten?
(this question made me crawl down the hole of rereading my ao3 inbox and i just want to say i love you all and it is a goldmine in here bc everyone is so nice!!!)
but when i posted Harsh Words @artichokesss commented “if Nick came and told me this is canon i would believe it bc it literally fits canon sO WELL” and honestly i still think about that all the time adhksgfkfh

The future of Spider-man
It’s a great time to be a Spider-man fan. What with Venom, Into the Spiderverse, the MCU, the comics, the TV show, and the PS4 game, there’s more new Spider-man content than I know what to do with.
I have a bunch of conflicting thoughts when it comes to Spider-man movies. I’m a huge fan, so I obviously want the best for the character, but I’m just not sure what that is exactly.
Ok, so I loved both Into the Spiderverse and Venom. This is rather unfortunate since I wanted to hate them.
I really think the folks at Marvel Studios know what they’re doing. They’ve put out dozens of smash hits, and they’ve managed to do it while also staying true to the source material. I liked the Raimi trilogy well enough, but after the Webb movies I had given up all hope for a good cinematic adaptation of Spider-man. Then along came Civil War, and Spidey fans across the Internet lost their minds.
The great thing about the MCU is that it allows Spider-man to grow individually with his own franchise while also allowing him to interact with the larger universe. This a keystone of Marvel, and it’s one of the reasons they’ve succeeded in such diverse genres. We get to see Spider-man’s own story, but we also get to see him get involved in larger events like Infinity War. He might even make cameos in other movies, or maybe we’ll get a crossover or team-up. These things just can’t happen in Sony’s Spiderverse.
(I also really loved the Ultimate Comics, mainly because they depicted Peter as a teenager. So I may be a little biased in that this is the youngest Peter Parker so far.)
Besides that, Spider-man: Homecoming was GOOD. I know not everyone liked it, but it was a fun teenage drama with a superhero action thrown in. Maybe not top of the line, but it did well enough at the box office. I think Tom Holland is the best Spider-man hands down, and the diverse ensemble cast is really talented as well. The tech and Iron Man relationship is an interesting twist, and I think they’ve incorporated it really well. And the story is compelling. Plus the suit looks really good and classic.
All of this is to say that I really think that it would be best for Spider-man if Marvel were in complete control of him. Of course, Sony won’t give him up so quickly. And the success of Homecoming probably solidified their deal with Marvel. That’s okay, since Marvel still has creative control.
However, when Venom was announced, I desperately hoped for it to be an epic fail. I thought that if Sony realized they couldn’t profit off Spider-man characters without Spidey himself, they would just give up and eventually relinquish Spider-man to Marvel completely. At long last, Marvel would have control over all their properties again, and all their characters could interact on the big screen.
But then I liked Venom. It was totally offbeat, and so unlike most action and superhero movies. There’s no way in would fit into the MCU, but then again, that was the whole point. Still, it didn’t do AMAZING. I thought that the inevitable failure of the Silver Sable movie or the like would give Sony the push they needed.
But then along came Into the Spiderverse. Everyone loved it, and I knew all hope was lost when it won an Oscar. There was no way Sony would give him up now. He was a veritable goldmine.
But when I actually watched the movie, my thought changed. I loved it, and I’m so glad it won the Oscar. It reminded why I love animation, it had a diverse ensemble with amazing voice talent, and it had an amazing message. I WANTED more movies like this. However, this meant I’d have to give on my dream of Spidey fully returning to Marvel
But I think it’s a worthy trade-off. In the era of formulaic, by-the-book box office hits. it’s so refreshing to see movies like Venom and Spiderverse do well. We NEED more movies like this. Their weirdness inspires creativity and risk-taking in Hollywood, and it means we get more movies that surprise us.
So I look forward to new Spider-man content from both Sony and Disney. I can’t wait for Far From Home, and I’d love to see the rise of the Sinister Six. Who knows, maybe Sony will surprise again and Morbius will blow us away.
Maybe I shouldn’t get my hopes up too much.
On a related note, Disney really needs to up their animated show game. Like, what even is Marvel’s Spider-man? And where can I watch Spectacular Spider-man?!?!? Plus the comics seem to be going in a really weird direction. The video game was phenomenal, though. And there’s a lot of really good memes and edits? A lot of bad stuff in the fandom too, unfortunately. starker, irondad, obsession with infantilized holland...
Looks like everything else Spider-related is a mixed bag too.

[old] guidelines
// these are my original rules. though they are still generally relevant, my newer, shorter, more concise rules post is here
A love letter from me to you! Please take it to heart.
The Lowdown: mod is an artist & supportive af|selective|primarily plot-motivated|operates on mutual respect|your friendly rpc fairy godbitch; gimme your wishlists|zero tolerance for OC negativity & bigotry|triggers present|18+ content present|consistent but occasionally capricious activity|OOC communication appreciated|lots of love abound ♡
Mod Sal (they/them/theirs; 24; PST)
I study medicine and social justice with emphasis on emergency medicine and sex work, respectively. In addition to being a writer I’m also an activist, artist, and scholar. I’ve been writing Bel since 2015. She’s a very intricate and highly dynamic character who has gone through many changes over the years via her interactions. I look forward to developing her even more with your muse(s)!
Before I talk about the kind of conduct I’d like on my blog, this is the type of roleplayer and friend I aspire to be. I’ll strive to be as attentive and supportive as I can about your muse, ideas, as well as ooc presence. If we’re mutuals, you can expect plenty of inboxes, tag games, headcanons, relationship tags, to be tagged in & sent posts relating to our muses, general interaction, and emotional support proportional to the depth of our interactions when I’m online. I’m an unapologetic 1-person hype squad at heart and will do my best to spread the love and return the love I get.
If I’m not around here, you can find me on my snk blog and/or discord by request. I muse Eren and Levi as secondary muses, but they won’t be nearly as active as Bel and are only available to established mutuals. I also have untagged resource & nsfw musing side blogs.
Interactions
When it comes to interactions, nothing motivates me more than an eagerness to develop our muses’ relationship. Depending on what works best for you, we can work on this via inbox submissions, plotting, or simply interacting. I have a tendency to write para/novella-length replies, but will strive to match you in length and style. Please include something I can actively respond to in your reply, because neutral replies can be very difficult to build upon, and please do not godmod her based on assumptions and/or stereotypes about her character/profession.
With regards to ask responses, please feel free to turn them into threads by tagging me in a new post and cutting your replies. I’ll turn asks into threads if they inspire me, but you’re under no obligation to continue them if you’re not as motivated. When cutting, please don’t cut me out. Also, please don’t reblog asks with your reply or reblog replies with my tag if I don’t reply quickly enough. I track of all my threads to the best of my ability, so please check there first if you want to know the status of our thread. If I’ve missed a thread of ours, please help me out by sending it to me in a message so I can add it to the tracker. If you lose muse for a thread, please don’t feel pressured to continue it. We can always take a break or start something new. I don’t cap my threads and am always open to new interactions.
Selectivity
Though I run a selective blog, I am not very selective in nature. I do have a preference for original and SnK/AoT characters, especially those that inspire me and challenge me. I’ll primarily look for interactions by checking blog rules for oc-friendliness, reblogging promos, asking to be mutuals in the tags, then follow back after that initial follow is granted. If you don’t want me to follow you, please block me completely because otherwise I’ll think it’s a mistake/glitch and follow you again. On the topic of glitches, they do happen so I apologize ahead of time if that happens above or below my radar.
I don’t tolerate oc-negativity or ooc bigotry and will handle my blog accordingly. If you align yourself in any way with TERF, SWERF, homophobic, ace-exclusionary, racist, and/or xenophobic rhetoric, please do not interact. It’s important for me to surround myself with enriching content and community. I have boundaries and will be setting them for my own comfort as well as respect yours because mutual respect between muns is key to a healthy rpc.
Sourcing
Please don’t do it. This goes for starters, ask memes, wishlist posts, and wanted connections. I understand we might not be the muse/mod duo you have in mind and that we don’t fit every situation, but please don’t fill my notifications with this sentiment, especially if we don’t have any established interactions yet. If our blogs have that much in common, there’s so much we could be musing about. If this happens excessively without us having any interactions, I’ll unfollow and/or block because I am a roleplay blog, not a resource hub. If you’re interested in my musing/resource posts, please show interest in muse interactions as well. The latter is why I’m here and there’s nothing more disheartening and discouraging to my creativity than being used and/or ignored when I present things.
Original Character Disclaimer
It pains me that something like this needs to be said, but Bel wasn’t created to force ship with your muse and/or overpower our threads. I will absolutely under no circumstances tolerate any form of OC negativity. I don’t care if you think they’re “cringey”, “underdeveloped”, “overpowered”, or any other iteration of not meeting your personal criteria of a good character. Opinions are valid but unsolicited bullying is not. It is important to realize that canon characters are still original characters bar their capitalistic franchise. The mods of original characters are a goldmine of free and original content and deserve to be judged by conduct, not content.
If you’d like to support OCs, I invite you to scroll through and reblog a thing or two from my OC positivity tag, as well as follow and engage in meaningful interactions with the OCs in your orbit. Your encouragement could be what makes a content creator’s breakthrough, so please be kind and supportive. Saying you’re OC-friendly while providing an extensive grocery list of double standards OCs must abide by to be considered acceptable isn’t OC-friendliness. Likewise, musing an OC doesn’t automatically make you incapable of being exclusive (unintentional or not) so please be cognizant as well and lets support each other.
Shipping
That being said, I’m just like every other mun. I enjoy shipping and the occasional smut scene given the chemistry is right and both muns are equally invested in the relationship as well as comfortable with it. The more we develop our muses, the more complicated their relationship will be and the more likely I’ll personally gift you with fanart. Above all, your comfort is paramount to our interactions so please communicate with me. Likewise, please respect my comforts when I speak of them. I am much more likely to be enthusiastic about shipping than Bel is, however, so please be patient with us and respect her boundaries as well.
# FREE THE FPN . SFW // ONLY IT’S NOT
This is the tag I will use to mark sexually explicit content. Bel is somewhere on the ace spectrum, but is nonetheless a sensual character and has a couple verses that engage in sex work. Bel’s struggles with her identities are a very big part of her personal characterization, so please be patient with her. [Marilyn Monroe’s hinted asexuality] Likewise, if she’s not into your muse, please don’t push such interactions unless we discuss them as a plot element.
Trigger Warnings
The SnK universe is rampant with violence, gore, psychological trauma, profanity, and grey morality. Furthermore, I enjoy writing dark themes and will provide the disclaimer now that this may be a rather trigger-heavy blog. However, that doesn’t mean you have to be subject to all these themes. If you’d like me to tag things in a certain way, please don’t hesitate to let me know because your comfort is important to me. I’ll gladly create a new tag for you to blacklist/filter and add it to my tag list. Furthermore, this blog will have the occasional explicit content so please don’t interact if you’re under 21.
Activity
I’m finishing up my bachelor’s so classes and coursework will keep me from here sometimes. Furthermore, I struggle with mental illness and domestic abuse in my home environment, so bouts of these may also pull me from activity. I’ll be doing my damndest to keep my issues off the dash but if things are especially severe and I feel the need to post about it and/or reach out, I’ll use a semicolon tag (#;). Nonetheless, musing, roleplaying, and plotting helps keep my spirits up so please keep me updated with your muse and share your discord with me, if you’d like. I’d love it so much if we could continue developing our muses as I slip off of and find my way back to tumblr, and I’d appreciate you very much as a writing partner and friend. ♡
Accessibility
I’m not very savvy with code, but I do try my best to keep my blogging accessible as I tinker and learn. If you struggle with accessing any part of my blog, let it be font size, style, or anything else, please let me know and I’ll do my best to accommodate because I don’t want to perpetuate elitism or ableism in the rpc. As far as reply formatting goes, I’ll usually stick to once small text (particularly in novella length replies via ctrl shift -) and spare use of italics, bolding, and strikethrough text. I may use unicode and/or zalgo for art captions, personal musing posts, crack threads, and other posts that call for it. Every once in awhile, I will blog from mobile and as a result post text in default size, but I’ll still cut my posts and at worst, separate our replies with a symbol or icon if I can’t blockquote text through html.
Permissions
One of my favorite things about roleplaying is sharing content and playing tag games. If you come across anything that reminds you of Bel and/or our interactions/plotting, please show me! Even more so, if you’re a content creator, you have complete and total freedom to use her and her inspirations in your work. I only ask to see it! Likewise, if I ever create any art for you, please acknowledge it at the very least. If you send in an art request and I deliver, please reblog it. Failure to do this kills my creativity as well as generosity so... please.
Exclusive to this blog are my own art and edits as well as those gifted by friends. Please don’t ransack our labors of love and re-purpose them as your own. Bel’s Iva & Marie icons were collected by yours truly with a beautiful frame made by Shane. Other people who have contributed their talents throughout the years include madcapraccoon, L, desertbl00m, Eris, Justice, sangre-rebelde, emptyolivejar, desimouse, and the many rp blogs that have interacted with her. I’d also like to give a special shout-out to sjokohama for the boundless enthusiasm given to her development as well as the readers who have enjoyed and left amazing comments on her original fanfiction. She wouldn’t be out here if it weren’t for Y’all ~ ♡
If you feel like something should be added to or clarified in these guidelines, please let me know. I realize I have a lot to say as a consequence of being here for so long, but I still want to keep my conduct as transparent and accessible as possible.
Thank you for reading! Please feel free to like this post and interact ~ ♡

Books
The Book of Imaginary Beings by Jorge Luis Borges. Good read. Mostly, I think, good reference and good for getting the imagination churning. I was amused to see 2 or 3 of CS Lewis’ creatures from his space trilogy listed.
Phantastes by George Macdonald. Revered by CS Lewis, Macdonald is an interesting fairy tale spinner. It is harder to read his work, but if you can, there is beautiful poetry and imagery therein.
After the Fall by Jack Fischer. A slim autobiography by Jack Fischer, a promising gymnast who broke his neck and became a quadriplegic. I grew up with Jack and Maria Fischer and their daughter attending our church. I didn’t really know the ins and outs of his story until I was editing this manuscript a couple years back but the Fischers have always been kind to me. It’s definitely a story of perseverance and strength through weakness. A short, good read.
Anime
March Comes In Like A Lion. I know I mentioned this before, but since I finally finished it, it’s worth another few lines. Very slow first arc. Still pretty slow second arc, but pulls in a storyline about bullying that sucked me in pretty deep. It chooses its moments to convey intense emotion and it does it very well. You get a look at the depth attached to each character from time to time and it is a thing of beauty to behold. All in all, a worthwhile slice of life anime about a pro Shogi player who is coming out of the shadow of lifelong depression one move at a time.
The Royal Tutor. It feels like it is trying for the same niche as Ouran High School Host Club in terms of balancing humor, parody, and sincere emotional moments. It was interesting enough to hold my attention, but the sincere emotional situations felt too much like tropes for me to fall in love with this series. Also the twist, from buildup to payoff, really made not sense. It is (to me) mediocre, but not BAD.
Movies
Unplanned. Very difficult movie to watch. However I appreciate its existence a lot more than the traveling pro-life truck billboards. This film follows the story of Abby Johnson, the youngest clinic director in Planned Parenthood history. She worked for them for 8 years, and resigned after witnessing an abortion for the first time. This is that story. It was well done, but don’t eat beforehand. The characters were, I felt, very well balanced. There were a wide range of Pro-Lifers represented and a wide range of Pro-Choicers represented, it was not clear-cut “Pro-Lifers are the heroes, Pro-Choicers are the villains!” In fact, the “turn or burn” crowd was presented as the first Christians you meet. I appreciate that the film owns that that faction exists and does harm. And you root for the clinic workers as they, with heroic music playing, risk their lives to finish all scheduled abortions in advance of Hurricane Ike. You are given the sense that on either side of this issue, people really believe that what they are doing is for the best. Yes, the film is decidedly Pro-Life, but the women are never villainized and neither are the clinicians (exceptions: one corporate climber is typical evil corporate climber, and one doctor is shown to be rough).
Spiderman: Into The Spiderverse. Wow. Just. Wow. I. What do you even say? I want more like this… a lot more. Mostly rendered speechless over here, so that’s about all I’ve got…
Mary Poppins. I re-watched this so that I could move from this into the sequel that was recently released. Man. What a nostalgia trip. I haven’t seen this in over a decade and it’s finally, FINALLY fresh again to me. Has anyone considered that Uncle Albert would fit well with Tumblr’s humor? I feel like I detected an early form of memery in some of his jokes. Also can we please bring Steppin Time back??? Actually, come to think of it, the whole second half is like a meme goldmine. Seriously. Bring it back, guys.

When the time has come to end a show
Ten years ago, many Veronica Mars fans received the news that the show wouldn’t be returning anymore. Not only fans were angry, but showrunner Rob Thomas and main star Kristen Bell were hurt by CW’s decision. But in 2014, Veronica Mars lived on with a movie, partially financed by the fans after a very successful Kickstarter campaign.
This might be one of various examples of tv shows that should’ve lasted longer than they did. Because a lot people agree: Veronica Mars’ ratings were declining, but it was still a pretty good show.
Though, one might argue that the opposite exists as well: shows that go on for too long, until a point that it’s no longer fascinating, original or even interesting. Fans are tired of watching the show, but for multiple reasons, the ratings are still off the charts. Or at least, they’re good enough for the excecutives to see past the fans’ reactions.
Grey’s revolving door
What I personally think is a superb example is Grey’s Anatomy. I’m the first person to praise Grey’s Anatomy. And don’t be fooled, it still blows my mind every now and then. But at this moment, we’re in the middle of the 14th season and most of the original cast has left the show.
Grey’s used to have the MAGIC characters. For anyone who doesn’t know, this stands for the five interns in the beginning of the show. Meredith, Alex, George, Izzie and Cristina. Sure, Meredith and Alex are still around. But George is dead (has been since the season 5 finale) and Izzie and Cristina have left.
Many other beloved characters have left or died as well. Callie, Teddy, Derek, Lexie, Mark,...
But that’s not where it stops. I’ve read mutiple comments online where fans are just bored by the storylines. One particular storyline that was boring for me was the one where Owen and Amelia were talking about possibly (not) having children. Anyone who watches Grey’s Anatomy knows Owen has already been through this discussion with Cristina. You’d think the guy would learn from his mistakes each marriage.
So why does Shonda Rhimes and the ABC executives keep this show on? Well, without getting too much into numbers and figures, we all know that the ratings are still pretty high. And not just in the US, but in several other countries as well.
And it seems like the show has started to work like a revolving door. Characters easily come in and get out and the bigger part of the audience doesn’t even really care. But we do, don’t we?!
America’s funniest family
While we all love The Simpsons and their endless shenanigans (who doesn’t?), a lot of people are starting to wonder when this show will ever end. Right now, they’re at season 29 and counting. We’re never going to deny that it’s funny or often even hilarious. But sadly, many people feel like it’s time to let Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart and Maggie live their fictional lives and adventures off-screen.
It just seems like the tv show people couldn’t get enough of... people can now get enough of. Go figure!
So when is a good time to quit?
As a lot of shows are like children to the people who wrote, produced or created the shows (and let’s not forget that some shows have been literal goldmines), it might be hard to say goodbye. But in my humble opinion, a tv show should stop existing whenever it just doesn’t really make sense anymore. When it stops exciting people. When the storylines aren’t making people sit on the edge of their seat anymore. When commercial breaks aren’t annoying anymore.
But let’s face it - all these reasons aren’t going to be reasons for the executives at Fox, ABC, HBO or NBC to pull the plug on a show. Ratings will. And I honestly raise the question: if I were a network executive, would I do it for these reasons? Keep in mind that if you cut a show, you cut hundreds of jobs, too.
It reminds me of how I recently had to say goodbye of The Mindy Project. This is what Mindy Kaling tweeted:
She’s right. She got to end it on her own terms and that’s pretty rare. But why though? Was it because the show was on Hulu maybe?
The creative freedom of streaming services
One of the many cool things about streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu is that it feels like more and more shows are being created with the freedom of being able to do whatever the creators want to do with it. There’s a certain creative freedom that you just can’t find in network television. And I’m not just talking about nudity or swearing.
Though Mindy was right, it is rare to be able to stop at your own terms, she has to admit that it has become less and less rare nowadays because of what streaming made possible.
It has also changed the way we view shows as well. Sure, there are still plenty of random viewers out there. People who don’t feel the need to binge a show or write fan fiction or go on Tumblr and write blogposts (oops). A lot of people still enjoy it to casually kick back and watch some show they don’t need to know thousands of details about.
But there are also plenty of people like us, who relate to the Netflix binge-watching commercials and memes more than we should.
And that all leads back to the fact that the suits of tv land have to make a realization that their television shows actually have to keep nerds like us entertained because every month, there are more of us We are growing. Nowadays, there is a quality show for everyone. And look, I’m not saying that all shows with high ratings are not quality shows. I’m just saying that perhaps ratings shouldn’t be the only objective in this discussion anymore.
At the risk of sounding like a blonde teenage white girl, here’s a quote that might fit my arguement:
“ better to burn out than to fade away” - Kurt Cobain
If you have to let go, you should do it in style. It’s hurtful to watch a show that started great but slowly but surely, declined in quality. And that doesn’t mean all shows have to die young. Some shows can die old. That’s alright. As long as it’s still working.
So what show do you think should find its way to TV show heaven already? Leave it in the comments!

So since you blocked me for something PETTY =) I’ll copy and paste my response here
LMFAO you really called a CSA survivor a “brother-molesting piece of shit”
Here's the thing you inbred cow-sucking loony:
I didn't know she was a CSA suvivor. Being one myself, had I known she was a survivor too I'd have gone with something more tasteful that did not refer to that sort of thing.
and had the fucking gall to call that a “read.” That isn’t a “read” you crusty ass cunt that’s just you being the vile piece of subhuman shit that you are
Technically nobody 'reads' another person, it's just a phrase that people use. I was merely seeking to piss her off, but had I known she was a CSA survivor then I would have gone with something different, instead of that. Oh, you think I'm a vile piece of subhuman shit? At least I don't tell people I hope they get hit by a bus and die! That's you!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHJHAH
@rooby-the-rapscallion Tell me, who is TRULY a vile subhuman piece of shit? One who makes a comment without knowing the person is a CSA survivor, or the one who wishes death on another person for something they couldn’t have known?
and I hope to God that you get hit by a bus and die.
As I said before, I had many near death experiences, and since I'm not a stupid person (unlike you) I still play it safe anyways.
@astral--nymph @saiyanhero
This actually makes you A WORSE PERSON THAT I WILL EVER BE =) isn't that right, @lethal-cuddles ? I mean, you don't try and tell someone they're the worst thing ever if they had never wished death upon someone else, especially for something that wasn't even known that they're getting harped on for.
Like you’re really so pressed that someone said that you blocked them at one point and then backed that up with evidence of when you had them blocked
Newsflash honey: Glitches happen, and if I REALLY DID BLOCK HER-how come she was able to STILL send me things AND reblog from me?? Once you're on the blocked list, you stay blocked :)
that you went and wrote a bunch of nonsensical shit, called it a “read,”
Honey you're way too young to realize that a 'read' is just a word that people use when they're dragging someone. I think it would occur to you by now, unless you're new here. Honey you're way too young to realize that a 'read' is just a word that people use when they're dragging someone. I think it would occur to you by now, unless you're new here.
It’s only nonsensical if you’re too much of an ass to actually read or if you’re illiterate in English.
and called a survivor a fucking molester
Here's the thing: Does it ever occur to you in that amazingly small pea-brain of yours that NOT EVERYONE KNOWS IF SOMEONE IS A SURVIVOR OR NOT? If I had known I wouldn't have done anything like that, so unless you're new you should have come across shit like this a loooong time ago and know that its normal for people to use these kinds of insults. Maybe you have but have trouble retaining it.
Also, learn to break a paragraph.
and THEN @‘ed your little friends like you can’t fight your own battles bc you can’t,
Actually I can and I have. As you noticed, only one or two of them have reblogged AND they haven't said anything in my defense =)
Also your little bitchy cunt ass can’t fight, because you blocked me right afterwards!
When you can’t reblog a post you KNOW they blocked you. I’ll even be posting a video showing me refreshing and trying so you can’t claim it was a glitch, which I am pretty sure is your angle.
My friends have their own choice of stepping in if they want, but they merely LOVE to read me blowing everyone out of the water, its like a sitcom to them. I'm sorry you have no friends who enjoy reading your battles ='( But some of us love a good laugh, you know? And I provide that for them. If they step in, its on their own accord, and very rarely do they do that because even they know I can whip ass when I want to.
you’re a petty cunt who resorts to saying shit like this when you can’t fucking fool someone.
Nobody is fooling anyone sugar, except you, who think you can fool me and whoever's not a porn bot that's following you into thinking you're tough shit when you're goopy diarrhea. We all know that if we ever met face to face, you'll tuck your tail between your legs and run away because you are NOTHING without your device =)
As for petty cunts, its only you who is. I’m not the one telling people I wish they’d go and die, because even I have my limits when it comes to this.
And then you ended it with a clever little “bye Felicia” like you’re a token white who just wrote the drag of the century.
Wow, imagine the day that pea-brainers would get sooooo offended at a phrase. Listen, that phrase has been in use for so long that even my Native American mother who rarely has internet access uses it when fighting with people. (And those are the fights where she doesn't get physical; Mom's pretty scary when she's pissed, she's tried to kill people before and she's not afraid to get blood on her hands. )
Like bitch if that isn’t the overreaction of the century IDFK
Sugar, YOUR WHOLE RESPONSE IS THE OVERREACTION OF THE CENTURY =D I really think I should make a recording of this in a weak, whiny voice and post it, don't you think? This whole thing is a goldmine, you're the new "What did you say about me you lil bitch" meme!
How would you like to be ascended to meme status?
@diaroon Not even Aleister is this much of a drama queen.
what is like you really have some fucking guts
Yes, at least I have guts =) I mean, if I didn't then I would be just like you and trust me, nobody wants to be you, not even you wants to be you!
to be acting up like this talking about reporting people over petty shit and then turning around and accusing a survivor of fucking molestation.
Oh please, these people have done plenty of things worth reporting, and I didn't say I was JUST going to be reporting their messages, did I? I mean they usually contain stuff that breaks community guidelines (and it wasn't the only one she sent either, lmao) and in case you haven't gotten the memo because you're slower than a snail stuck in glue- Incest insults are a common staple on this site, and I DIDN'T KNOW SHE WAS A SURVIVOR. Honestly, I'm not like the either of you who scrape the bottom of the barrel, and like I've said before, had I known I'd go with something different, since I'm a survivor myself.
Also, you're getting too big for your britches, sugar, because you have absolutely NO RIGHT to nag on me for ANYTHING when you wish death upon people ^u^ You're scummier than I ever will be, even dogs wouldn't stop to sniff shit like you. So sorry, you lost your footing there! Woopsie-daisy!
It’s so funny how you think you’re such hot shit when really you’re just an ugly ass bitch
Ugly? Excuse you, I'm BEAUTIFUL and I know it. I mean, there's a reason why I have a whole blog dedicated to my face.
Also, using looks as an insult? Wow, you’re low (and I know low)
who can’t handle when she’s wrong and overreacts to such a degree over being made fun of
Overreacting would be throwing a triggered cunt fit like you are. Another overused phrase you might have heard of : Check yourself before you wreck yourself, and with you you didn't just wreck-you have a whole pileup!
What, you pissed because I got better responses than you? That I can at least cobble together a coherent sentence that doesn't give everyone who glances at it a migraine?
because you blocked someone for the pettiest reason in the world.
LMAO, I didn't block her Felicia, at least not the first time =) She THOUGHT I blocked her because her device glitched (And afterwards she still was able to send me things AND REBLOG FROM ME. You're not able to do that if you're blocked) Because she caused such a show, I decided to block her AFTER I reblogged her post whining about how I blocked her. I even showed proof I HADN'T blocked her, but apparently she was in too much of a spaz to think clearly (just like you, naturally)
Like damn you really are fucking stupid.
I'm not the stupid one here, you are =) Academic wise I'm doing extremely well, not to mention that while I may be lacking in social skills to my own condition, I have been working better on it, and I also figured out ways to help boost my confidence when dealing with people who clearly have none
Well, its been very fun talking with you. Total victory is scoring an easy win if your opponent is unarmed in the terms of wits. People controlled by rage often have the wrong impression that things will go as they think. Even if each opponent changes, its still no different. So, I got one more thing to say:
BYE FELICIA =)

Sebago Docksides Ariaprene
Sebago is as synonymous with boat shoes as Ray-Ban is with sunglasses and Donald Trump is with Twitter. Continuing the sailing theme is this smock from utilitarian menswear masters Albam which lets face it is more likely to see some high seas action than our late run for the 2021 America’s Cup on the old man’s catamaran. G-Star Raw Lanc Slim Trackpants
The man who invents a trouser with the cushiness of a tracksuit bottom and the cut of a tailored suit will surely have hit on a goldmine worth a thousand ships (or you know a thousand tailored trackies). Anyway, G Star RAW has done it, and the results are pretty tasty, with the taper at the bottom of the leg making you look twice and hey, a double look is better than a single so we’ll take a thousand pairs please.

FoR Roma Varsity Bomber Jacket
We love our Scandi minimalist brands, but the Arcadia group, home to Topman and Burton went and tricked us by copying the style and making it gobsmackingly better with new brand FoR. The prices are another attraction, and we don’t think you’re going to find a better bomber jacket under £50 than this sleek red option. You can also wash it in the washing machine so spill as much ice cream and beer as you want on it.
Buy Now: £38.39
Lacoste Fraisier Gold Croc Sliders
Lacoste was originally founded in 1933 to provide moveable polo shirts for tennis players including its founder, seven-time Grand Slam winner René Lacoste. But that slippery little croc started sliding away from the tennis court until it found a home lounging around the pool protecting our feet from the lava-like patio. That is to say, Lacoste makes great pool sliders, like these gold and navy ones, that are as timelessly stylish as the polo shirts René used to volley around the court in.

Mango Jersey Henley T-Shirt
The T-shirt game is a little too dominated by the crew neck gang, so in rooting for the underdog, we were pleased to find this sterling Henley neck effort from Mango. It comes in a fine-knit textured cotton, but while the body might look more like a jumper the sleeves are short and sweet freeing those biceps up to enjoy the glimmering sun outside.

A brave man would style his ace suede jacket with a pair of suede shorts, but we’re an ol’ chicken legs so we daren’t try it. Instead we would just go with a simple white tee. Farer Ponting II
This new watch from Farer has us oohing and aahing in unison like the little Pizza Planet aliens from Toy Story, its intergalactic beauty coming from the dolphin-grey dial paired elegantly with aquamarine (and glow in the dark) hands and numerals. The strictly limited run of 50 colour-way designs are supposedly inspired by the British coast, although presumably the stimulus is more cool Camber Sands than Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Kenzo Acrylic Tiger iPhone Case
Tony, Shere Khan, Richard Parker (that one on the boat from Life of Pi that was definitely smaller than the raft Jack had to jump off of in Titanic) – we’ve got a lot of time for the cool cats of the jungle, especially when they adorn anything by French luxury streetwear brand Kenzo. Its tiger tees are iconic, but don’t let the branding stop there, with this grrrrrreat iPhone case made from a sturdy acrylic.

How to Use Facebook Recruiting to Find Top Talent
For those on the hunt for new talent on social media, Facebook might not be your first choice in terms of where to look. This is especially true given LinkedIn’s status as the go-to “professional” social network, right?
However, Facebook has proven itself as a recent hub for hiring. Not only has the platform stepped up its game for recruiters, but consider this:
Facebook boasts a bigger talent pool than any other network. Compare Facebook’s 2 billion monthly users to LinkedIn, where only 25% of their 500 million users are active monthly.
Not every profile on LinkedIn represents someone actively looking for a gig. Recruiters may accidentally overlook the perfect fit because they don’t realize their ideal candidate is actually interested in new opportunities.
Traditional job boards are totally time-sensitive. Does it really make sense to recruit someone based on what time they were online to apply versus their work history and qualifications?
On the flip side, Facebook recruiting allows employers to encourage new talent to come to them. Meanwhile, those hiring via Facebook can drill down deep to find the perfect fit.
Sick of job boards flooded with unqualified applicants? Haven’t had much success with LinkedIn? Facebook recruiting could be the missing link in your hiring process.
We’ve outlined the wealth of options available to recruiters looking to find qualified talent that’ll stick around for the long-term thanks to Facebook.
Awesome Ads That Attract Talent
Perhaps the biggest recruiting pain point presented by job boards is that you cast too wide of a net.
Maybe you’re looking for someone with a highly specialized skill set. Perhaps you want to limit applicants to people in your own backyard. With job boards, you have little control over who applies (both good and bad).
That’s why searching for talent via Facebook Ads is a solid starting point for recruiters. In fact, Facebook themselves recommend that businesses begin with ads.
We already know that Facebook ads are the bread and butter of businesses looking to hone in on customers based on specific demographics.
Fortunately, recruiters can use that targeting to their advantage while pursuing talent. For example, here’s an example of a “We’re hiring!” post from Marriott:
Now, there’s nothing wrong with this post. However, it’s not a particularly compelling ad for potential hires because it’s too broad.
On the flip side, here’s another post from Marriott that’s more honed in:
Now this post has potential as an ad. Why? For starters, it’s directed toward a specific skill set (those with hotel and hospitality experience). The post also focuses on a singular location instead of presenting itself as a generic “Hey, work for us!” post.
Think about it: how relevant is an ad for hotel leaders in Cabo for someone in Middle-of-Nowhere, Michigan?
That’s the beauty of Facebook recruiting via ads versus hoping to catch someone’s eye with a one-size-fits-all job post.
How to Create a Facebook Recruiting Ad
Creating your own ad for new hires is pretty straightforward. You can get started via Facebook’ Business page:
Or under the “Create” tab in the bottom left corner of your “Home” page:
You’ll then be asked to choose your marketing objective. Click on the “Lead generation” tab at the bottom of the middle column:
Then name your hiring campaign. For this example, we’ll be working with a fictional Ecommerce marketing manager position:
Granted you already have a company Facebook profile, you’ll be directed to a page where you have the chance to set up your unique audience:
This is where the fun begins.
Let’s say we’re hiring for an in-person role in Chicago. We can narrow down our search by only targeting candidates who have “advertising” and “marketing” as listed interests who live in a 25-mile radius:
Nice.
So, what happens when we only include users with “Ecommerce” in their current job title?
OK, Facebook says that’s too specific so we’ll take a step back. Let’s say we want someone with Shopify experience. So, we’ll target users with “Shopify” as one of their listed interests:
Bingo.
The specificity of Facebook’s ad platform is a far cry from hoping that something sticks on a job board, right?

If we wanted to take things a step further, we could also exclude candidates’ profiles for irrelevant locations or experience.
Facebook’s advanced targeting ensures that recruiters running ads are only matched with relevant results. Obviously you could spend ages fine-tuning your posts to find the perfect match. That said, the biggest benefit of Facebook ads is that you can streamline the hiring process versus drag it out forever.
The point is this: Facebook recruiting provides businesses the opportunity to find exactly who they’re looking for based on demographics versus taking a shot in the dark.
Making Your Job Posts Pop
Whether you’re running an ad or posting a new position to your company Facebook page or group, it pays for your posts to stand out.
After all, you’re competing against the latest memes, YouTube sensations and breaking news within your potential hire’s feed. Massive walls of text will only put your prospects to sleep.
Making your posts stand out doesn’t have to be rocket science. Well, unless you’re SpaceX:
This example ticks the boxes of what makes an effective Facebook recruiting post. How so?
The post includes an eye-popping image that’s atypical of a job listing.
The copy of the post is warm and inviting, yet specific.
The target link leads directly to a job listing, making the application process easier for interested talent.
The folks running the Disney Careers Facebook page likewise understand the importance of injecting some personality into their Facebook recruiting efforts:
Short, sweet and to the point. The copy of this particular post creates a playful sense of urgency and drives interested applicants to click.
Remember: not all recruiting requires a suit-and-tie vibe. Chipotle similarly uses humor to encourage new employees:
Using photos of current employees and team members can also give your posts a more personal touch. At the same time, such photos help potential hires visualize themselves as part of your company. Here’s a good example from Boeing:
The takeaway here? You can’t just slap a job posting on Facebook and walk away.
Just as you’d test marketing copy via email or social, do the same with your Facebook recruiting posts. From image types and sizes to snappy copy and long-winded descriptions, recruiters have plenty of opportunities to get creative.
If you want to attract legitimate talent through Facebook recruiting, your posts’ copy and imagery need to be designed to drive clicks.
Create a Career-Focused Facebook Page
If you run a company with a sizable following and don’t want to flood your news feed with job postings, you may want to consider creating a Facebook page exclusively for career-focused content.
Here’s a prime example from Walt Disney World, which is solely targeted at job-seekers in Florida. Through the page’s “Work for Us” tab powered by a third-party extension, users can access an up-to-date list of one-click job opportunities:
Such pages are relatively straightforward in terms of upkeep as they mostly serve as another place for talent to access your company’s openings.
As noted, the ability to hire directly from Facebook is key to keeping applicants from bouncing off-site to a long-winded sign-up page. Here’s an example from the Amazon Fulfillment Jobs page:
Although not an absolute must-have, career pages can be used as a sort of positioning tool, too. For example, NBCUniversal uses their careers to show off their employees and provide job-seekers with advice:
Strike Gold With Hiring Groups
Even though the majority of today’s recruiters are indeed using Facebook, there’s much more to the platform than hiring ads, posts and pages.
In fact, Facebook groups represent a potential goldmine of talent for recruiters willing to do some digging. There are Facebook recruiting opportunities within groups both big and small across all industries.
For example, a quick search for “marketing jobs” returns a laundry list of results:
Keywords such “(industry) + job board” could likewise be the prime place to find the perfect fit for a one-off gig. For the most part, Facebook job groups are popular with freelancers and remote workers.
The plus sides of these communities include fewer candidates to sift through and more transparency as applicants deal with recruiters one-on-one. As such, postings and responses are typically laid back as hiring is done back and forth via email or messaging. Finally, posting jobs to Facebook groups is totally free versus running ads.
