Jack, who started skating aged 10, broke the junior British record for the 500m distance this season and has won multiple medals including bronze at the Europa Cup finals in Belgium last month. He is part of the world class programme, working towards Olympic qualification.
Jack’s former coach Mandy Worth said,
"He has a huge amount of natural talent and he is very, very focused. He has a natural glide across the ice that you don't often see. Jack's family are also right behind him and that is a great help."
Mandy, who competed for Britain in the Lake Placid Olympics of 1980 and is a coach of the Nottingham Ice Racing Club added: "Jack is proud to be from Gedling so this award will mean a lot to him. It's very nice that his achievements have been recognised."
At the World Junior Championships in Austria this year, Jack posted a new British junior best in the 500 metres, his favoured distance, recording a time of 41.958 seconds.
He said: "When you're going at new speeds, everything seems like it's coming at you faster. You're not used to the corners coming at you that fast.
"I was going faster than I'd ever been before, but I had a few slips during the race. If I hadn't had those slips, I could have gone a lot faster.
"I genuinely believe there's a lot more to come. I take more confidence from that, knowing I could have done more."
The Pride of Gedling Award is sponsored by Gedling Borough Council. Jack has had his name engraved on a plaque at Gedling Civic Hall, alongside previous holders of the "Pride of Gedling" title.
