Question for my friends/peers of color!
We all know racism affects us daily since the safety of coming out the womb, so I'm not asking how long racism has affected your life
What I'm asking is when did you first realize that the way someone treated you was because of the color of your skin and/or your identity. That "they are treating me this way because I am ______"
This could be your mom in preschool explaining you that your friends always want and don't share the white baby doll because they think it's prettier than the black one
This could be your white neighborhood kids playing tag and telling you you can't come in their house bc their dad doesn't like Black people (this has happened to me, age 10)
This could be your teachers choosing the white kids with the "easy" names and skipping over you and others because your name is "difficult" and you finally peeped the pattern.
It could be your peers saying your food is "smelly" or "weird" just bc you actually got a home cooked cultural meal for lunch
It could just deadass be a slur, nothing insidious about it
If you are identifiably White, or have never experienced racism (which, i envy you!) You can check the tags for people's answers, and I will update!
