I haven't watched any of campaign three and have basically only been following it through osmosis (following cr blogs) so I may be way off here.

But this campaign seems like it's Avengers Endgame the DnD campaign, and all the bizarre character and narrative choices that comes with being so focused on getting Everyone Together in One Place that anything else falls to the side
