I know this ain't limbus related but you saying by over 500 hours just makes me feel...
😳
not for anything on your end mind you but the idea that that is a lot when my top game leads at 1600 hours over 2nd place.
just.
😳
To be fair I just don't play my other games as often as I probably should. Chronic boredom is a bitch and it means I get bored with some games quicker than I would like to.

The fact that I haven't played Isaac in over a year despite it being my second most played game on Steam should tell you everything you need to know.

I cannot tell you how happy I am to see that you've written as much as I have on this topic and then some, because I genuinely wrote out my whole original post going "Man I hope Angela ThePaleLibrarian follows this up" because I feel like you have many (and more) of the same gripes I do with this whole thing; but I will FULLY admit that you have a much better way with words when it comes to actually explaining it all properly.
It's like you can see my word vomit and go "hold on you forgot some things and also I'm going to make this cohesive." It's literally always so nice to see someone say it all so clearly because every single time I'm just sitting here like "YEA, WHAT SHE SAID!" It's also cool to see because you typically have a lot more information about this stuff than I do, since I don't really keep up with it all anymore.
BUT ALSO, as someone who hasn't been keeping up with Limbus I had no idea that they DID in fact dredge up the corpse of my beloved Sephiroth and I cannot tell you how upset I am to hear that they've brought back the HQ, and the Library; and that they have in fact stuck their hands back in the ol' honey pot to see what little bit more cash they can shake out of it. I literally do not care if they say they're retroactively changing things; the old games remain as they were to me; and that's the canon I am choosing to accept as fact.
It's genuinely insulting, as someone who has spent literally YEARS. I mean I remember when Distortion Detective, and Library of Ruina were coming out; I was playing each update as it aired. I remember back when all we had was Lob Corp; and we would make mods and fan content to keep the fandom alive and well. I've been in love with this series for literally over like 5 years now. For them to just decide to undo and redo canon lore from previous games feels like a slap in the face. Why should I bother to care about these characters, or the stories; or any of it, when it could all be changed tomorrow? When they could just decide to bring someone back; or change aspects of the previous games.
I cannot agree more that Limbus would be fine if it wasn't made by Project Moon. Because this doesn't feel like a PM game, and it's not what any of the fans really wanted from something like this. I'd argue that we're so deep in it now, that the fandom and the community surrounding PM and Limbus is very different; that it's changed significantly. Obviously you still have some of those original fans who didn't care as much about all the themes and the horror, and the characters; and the plot. Sure; you absolutely still have those people who love Limbus, they probably loved Lob Corp and Library of Ruina as well. However, when it comes to the really die hard and dedicated fans; no matter when they got into it; or how long they've been a fan of it; if they really fell in love with what Lob Corp had to offer, they 9 times out of 10 really are a Limbus Hater. Because Limbus feels like a betrayal. It's such a departure from what we've come to expect.
You actually articulated my thoughts on the characters really well, about how it's almost always about comedy and how a lot of it is just this cookie cutter tropey garbage. It feels like it's trying to be memeable and marketable or just relatable in a "look how silly they are" kind of way. Like yea I'm never going to get over when they hydraulic pressed a child right in front of us, because that was impactful. I'd argue there is comedy in Lob Corp as well; but handled significantly better. I feel like in Lob Corp you had characters like Chesed and Gebura as the kind of serious straight man and easy going jokester duo; with Roland and Angela filling that role nicely in Ruina. That's not to say that there wasn't comedy outside of those characters. I'm just saying that in both of those cases those moments directly tied into their personalities in a way that gave you insight into how they think and act. Like Chesed wasn't just being silly to be silly; Gebura wasn't just shutting him down because he was annoying or something. Both of them had proper reason behind their actions that would only become apparent the more you learn about them and how they handle their situation. However it never felt too out of place or jarring.
I look at characters like Don or Ryoushuu and I can't help but feel like these characters are here to be jokes. I see moments like this:
Tumblr media
and I just can't help but feel like there was absolutely someone on the staff going "oh the fans are gonna meme this one all over twitter!"
and you know, it worked! That's the worst part; this, as you say; has become the norm now. This is the face of Project Moon.
I'm honestly far too sleep deprived to be trying to make coherent thoughts about this right now unfortunately; but I also want to scream into the great void that is Tumblr because I feel like I can finally get a lot of this off my chest without 800 angry anons descending on me to tell me I'm a fucking idiot who needs to be hydraulic pressed.
My mutuals are out here saying facts!
Tumblr media
I will always find it genuinely really funny how I ramble and rant for like 9 paragraphs and then one of my mutuals says it better in like a few tags on the post.
Like I didn't even consider the fact of yea they're all basically one shot flash in the pan, trauma of the week type characters. We don't even get proper in depth analysis and exploration of them. I love the characters I want them to be more developed and explored! Think about how much actually cool non-Gacha content they could have made beyond "this is Character 4s Canto and next week we're just gonna move on to Character 5!"
Don't even get me started on how they specifically said Limbus was going to be a way to tell us about The City and the people who live in it. Specifically without having to worry about the story having to be complete and finished. Only to never let people actually live! We can't learn shit because we're meant to learn about people just so they can be killed off.
The worst part in my mind is that it's likely we'll never actually get satisfying endings for these main characters because, they're part of a story that isn't meant to have an ending. It's designed to keep going and keep bringing in money. There literally cannot be a resolution, they aren't allowed to have any kind of "end" because that would stop bringing in money.
The sinner's stories will always be stuck in "flash in the pan sinner of the week" type episodes as a result.
