A short while back, I received a beloved comment on a very old re-uploaded fic which offered a "between 'XXXX' and 'YYY' is [superlative] piece of writing, haunting me for years" so i go Hmm! I have no memory of this specific section! and look it up and
it's a description of a median strip
i mean, it's a good description of a median strip, and once i re-read it i certainly remember contemplating carefully and exactly what i was trying to convey, but it is, in actual fact, a description of a median strip
#this doubt forever strikes because man that was actually a good piece of writing what was i on? who was i? who was this person writing good?#but was that the peak of my existence!!!??!???!?!?? i shall never surmount this description!! *sobs*#the door doored doorily in the wall which was a wall which was a thing other than a wall but clearly not a door#the door in the other wall was open but no one noticed#so busy they were.staring at the doorily door which being closed was the only door that embodied the doorness of being a door#in a wall#don't forget the wall#did i mention the wall because there's also walls#everywhere.and don't forget the eyes are doors too.opening and closing like doors.interiors and exteriors.right?#no roof tho#this being an architectural metaphor for how domestic ruins entrap and stagnate! residential architectural forms are rooms of doom! dooooom#there is a floor though because floors are where people have to kneel grovel puke fall and draw outlines of the bodies that were never ther#sigh sigh sigh self deprecation this deadly deadly sin#whilst i battle with editing and cutting giant chunks of similar type descriptions which seem less than relevant; and wondering 'but would-#--that rando piece of distorted-elevator-reflection-description have become someone else's powerful haunting piece?' who knows...#my writing#editing man. 20000x harder than writing
