#workign with JE is such an experience every time#there i am just rolling the old chariot along writing my analysis and what do i get?#i get punched in the face repeatedly by the preciseness of how well-planned the narrative is#how consistent the themes are#how logical the red thread of the character development is#i need to give that woman a little kiss or possibly give her head sloppy style

BOG - Half orc - Sorcerer/Bard (playlist in link)
AKA “Lesbian pirate playlist”
Here’s Bog’s playlist + a whole bunch of analysis about each song!Â
Wanderers Lullaby - Adriana Figueroa
You are the dawn of a new day that's waking
A masterpiece still in the making
The blue in an ocean of grey
You are right where you need to be
Poised to inspire and to succeed
You'll look back and you'll realize one day
A lot of this playlist is gonna be “[REDACTED]” bc I want some secrets from the pirates rp group but: there’s someone out there who sang this song at Bog’s birth, and every time they check in on them they have to remind themselves... They’ll get back on the right path one day.
Into The Wild - Connell Cruise
i'm taking i'm taking
i'm taking this step
no turning back
breaking the rules
with nothing to lose
we'll write this map
If you look up the words “college rebellion” you’ll find a picture of a slightly younger, slightly thinner, much more punk Bog. Some things had to be sacrificed for the #pirate aesthetic (such as hair gel)
Luck - American Authors
I'm sorry, Mother
I know I let you down
I'm sorry for how I up and left this town
And
I am my own man, I make my own luck
On their 18th birthday Bog was supposed to do something...three days before that there was an empty bed at the academy and a letter on the church steps. And a green-skinned kid heading straight for the coast.
Roll the Old Chariot Along - David Coffin
So we'll ro-o-oll the old chariot along!
An' we'll all hang on behind!
I like to think this was the first shanty Bog learned, possibly even before they were hired. They hung around port cities and played in bars because sailors pay well their first night back on dry land. So they probably heard snippets as ships came into the docks.
Pocket Full of Gold - American Authors
If I'm a sinner then I don't feel ashamed
Life goes on and if I'm wrong I guess I'll burn in flames
Bend up the river and nothing down the drain
Life goes on and if I'm wrong I guess I'll burn in flames
I can’t really talk much about this one bc it’s in relation to [REDACTED] but there’s something Bog’s running from, something they feel can’t catch them on the open seas (up the river, if you will), and if they’re gonna be in the wrong...at least they’re having a hell of a good time.
Here’s a Health to the Company - David Coffin
So here's a health to the company and one to my lass
Let's drink and be merry all out of one glass
Let's drink and be merry, all grief to refrain
For we may or might never all meet here again
And here’s Bog’s favorite shanty! What’s better than your crew mates celebrating a narrow escape from death? If we manage to not sink the ship and die Bog will probably start this song up p soon...it’s been a harrowing day to say the least (as of 3/1 they are trying to not look dumb while Tempest literally waterbends in the hull of the ship)
Let’s Get This Over With - They Might Be Giants
Even when you're out of work you still have a job to do
Even when you don't know what it is
Your job knows what it is
What it is is it's coming to get you
And here’s where the playlist get’s a little future oriented... Bog isn’t confident that this outrunning fate thing will work long-term, and has absolutely no idea how and when it will all come crashing down around them. So what else can they do?
And when you wake up you can feel your hair grow
Crawl out of your cave and you can watch your shadow
Creep across the ground until the day is done
All the while the planet circles 'round the sun
Jackie and Wilson - Hozier
So tired trying to see from behind the red in my eyes
No better version of me I could pretend to be tonight
So deep in the swirl with the most familiar swine
For reasons wretched and divine
And
'Cause with my mid-youth crisis all said and done
I need to be youthfully felt, 'cause God I never felt young
Who knows if there’s love out there on the sea’s for this lesbian, but they’re surrounded by pretty girls so ?
But yeah, “mid-youth crisis” sums up Bog’s uh, whole life rn. It’s a good crisis.
To Noise Making (Sing) - Hozier
You don't have to sing it right
Who could call you wrong?
You put your emptiness to melody
Your awful heart to song
You don't have to sing it nice, but honey sing it strong
At best, you find a little remedy, at worst the world will sing along
What would this playlist be without an ode to the purpose of Bog’s life - make some noise! (The Taliesin Jaffe quote “make people deal with you, but make sure dealing with you is always a pleasant experience” comes to mind) Bog’s favorite thing about being on the ship is the moment’s they can get everyone to join in, no matter their talent, and just sing the chorus of a song together.
