Effy Stoneham
Effy Stoneham
Her makeup and everything was so old iconic and. Mid to late 2000s and early twenty 10s. She was even on one of these programs where they’re like vogue or somewhere like that. Where they go through like old chronic looks in TV shows or they go through that iconic characters.. I think it was like the the character James McAvoy did one as well he did one talking about him being him shameless and also playing like someone in the UM something like the lion the witch and the wardrobe that kind of thing. But yeah her looks and that have been copied so much right with Jenna generations but it’s more of my generation and she started that show so young that she was like this is what made her Jen free not as good because they didn’t have Fe as like a Cliff note if you will. they had to use other characters to make that connection between it all but.. they did as well as they could on what budget they had in fact they had a really good budget for Gen. 3 but it just didn’t sit as well over the viewers. I like the second season of Gen. 3. especially allow. He makes it good and so does many for her character development but Frankie ruins it and it’s sad because she’s the only skins character that in real life they didn’t give her a verified tick online because she was disliked by so many viewers and she’s on.. April Pearson who played Michelle Richardson in Gen. 1. In the podcast are you Michelle from skins.
.... and how the creator who none of them are that fond of by the sounds of it I guess it was different with the younger lot I don’t know but they said that the sex scenes were really awkward and if you look at it it’s like really weird these people are teenagers are now having to take off their clothes and TV shows when they’re actually of that age I can’t think of anything worse.. well I could but not much worse it would be horrible to like when you’ve got all those feelings as a teenager it’s that age it’s hurtful and maybe you don’t feel good enough about yourself. the FBI was always the lead person’s favorite character I think because she got most of the good parts she got the bad parts obviously but she was popular because she was in all Four Seasons of Gen. 1 and Gen. 2... she was leading on to Jan 2 before taking over tonye space and there’s this thing on TikTok called the Stoneham and EFF ECT.. warehouse the Stoneham siblings really everybody there close to it. With Tony and Effie. but her looks have been iconic up until like now where things of my generation are now vintage because they're really well they're 20 years old a lot of them and that makes something vintage now.. they have a 10 to 20 year cycle 10 years of being popular Max and then ten years of being the opposite where it’s like say 80s compared to 90s clothing... so there’s that in between. Where they’re very similar and then it slowly peaks off and goes into a whole different genre of clothing and music also affects this too I feel like if it became later the series then Effie would have been a Lana Del Rey kind of girl... somebody else said sky fiera I don’t know enough of her music to know if she would be but seeing her hanging around with their banks and some of the pictures that I’ve put on here makes sense.

Rain was pouring down the glass of the window, creating a soft melody of music as you were sitting in the cozy little nook in your window seat. A blanket was draped over you with an open book in your lap as you got lost in the magical and enchanting world from your favorite piece of literature. The soft music from the jukebox of an oldie's song created that extra loving atmosphere. The fuzzy socks on your feet and the warm drink by your side made it that much more toasty warm for you.
Bucky had his mind occupied in a book as well where he was sitting on the armchair a little further away from you. Once in a while, his clear blue eyes would glance at the beauty of you sitting in your safe space, looking so at peace.
It was perfect for the two of you. Having the rain hit the window and the day slowly turning into night. The faint light from the ceiling illuminates the place, making it possible to read the words on the paper but still having that picture-perfect atmosphere of darkness.
As the night turned later and darker, the soft rain from outside turned into a full-blown angry thunderstorm. The creeps came upon you as the branches from the trees outdoor the house aggressively hit the window.
All of a sudden, a loud growl of thunder exploded all around that had you gasp out in fear at the power of it. The force of it cut the energy in the whole house, and the room went pitch black and quiet. It was scary—the complete darkness with the hell-storm outside shining a few seconds of light now and then creating spooky shadows.
“James!” The cry for help had him up on his feet in a heartbeat. You were scared and needed his protection.
“Hey, I’m here.” He came to your aid as he sat beside you. He knew how much you hated storms like these. Two small torches were held in his hand—one for him and one for you.
“I’m scared.” “I know, doll. Get some candles going while I check the fuse.” He went to get up, but you took a grab of his shirt, preventing him from leaving your side. “Don’t go.” “I’ll be right back.” A kiss was left on your hairline, and then he was off to the basement. “Please hurry,” you begged for him.
The torch gave you enough light and courage to find the candles and a lighter in the drawer across the room. You went to work putting a few of them around the place to give some form of light, enough for you to see a little more clearly, at least.
By the time you were done, James had emerged from downstairs, and it sounded like he was on the phone with someone. “... I understand, thank you.”
“Who was that? And why aren’t the lights on yet?” “It was the light company. I called because the fuse wasn’t the problem. The whole block is out because of the storm. It should be back in a few, they said,” he explained as he stepped into the very dim-lit living room and came to sit by your side once again.
“I didn’t realize it was so bad outside. It went from a zero to a hundred so quick,” you puzzled.
“Me neither. I didn’t realize it was so dark outside either until the power went out,” he added.
“I know. It’s so creepy.” As soon as you said that, another round of loud and angry thunder rumbled the house. The force of it made you clutch hard onto his metallic arm, covered by a thin sweater, with all the strength you had as you looked around for any signs of danger.
“Careful so you don’t break it,” he teased with his voice. “Shut up,” your hand slapped him lightly on the chest, “you can take it. I’m scared and need something firm to grab hold of.”
The next few minutes, he cuddled you and reassured you that everything would be fine. His chest was the perfect place to rest your head as you listened to his heartbeats. His soothing voice in your other ear helps you calm down as well when rounds after rounds of thunder whacked down.
Just like Bucky said, the lights came on a few minutes later, and you exhaled a breath of relief as the surroundings got less scary.
“See, that wasn’t so bad.” “No, you’re right.” The words barely got out as a big yawn came over you. “Come here.” He made you wrap your legs around his waist with no protest, and he got up to lead you both to the shared bedroom. His strong arms were holding onto you tight. “It’s late. Let’s get you to bed, princess.”

BREAKING NEWS: WHO IS HARRY STYLES’ NEW BEAU?
With a NewsWeekly exclusive, we are delighted to bring you all the hot gossip on X-Factor runner up Harry Styles and the young woman who is rumoured to be his girlfriend!
Catch up on what you may have missed: Harry Styles was one of the five young lads to be thrust together by Simon Cowell during this seasons X-Factor bootcamp. Styles is joined in One Direction with Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik. Unfortunately the band fell just short of the trophy, forfeiting first place to Matt Cardle and second place to Rebecca Ferguson. This has not held the young hearthrobs back by any means, however. Only a number of weeks ago One Direction released their debut single What Makes You Beautiful and since, seen their fame skyrocket!
So who is this woman that has stolen young Harry’s heart I hear you ask! Well here we have all you need to know: Y/N Y/L/N is an aspiring young actress that we first saw grace our screens in 2007′s Atonement with James McAvoy and Keira Knightley. Since the film’s release she has formed a very strong friendship with her fellow co-star Saoirse Ronan. We also know that she lives with her aunt, uncle and two cousins, but often in interviews refers to the latter as her brothers. This is because her mother passed away before her entrance into the acting business. We have no information about Y/L/N’s father.
The pair made their first appearance together on the red carpet for Y/L/N’s new release; and let me tell you: they looked very loved up and very smitten with each other. Yet, sadly for all of us, the pair dodged questions about each other extensively!
However, we’re determined to provide the latest on the new couple, so watch this space!
                                                   -------------------
“And what number is that?” Harry questioned finally after his laughter died down when I’d read out yet another article detailing our relationship.
“The sixth today.” I giggled, shaking my head a little as I threw the gossip newspaper onto the table in front of me.
“My personal favourite was the one that said we looked like we were so deeply in love with a picture of us coming out of Tesco.” He cackled, throwing his arm over the back of his sofa and over my shoulders.
“No, the best one was that we’ve been together on and off for over two years now and your audition song was actually your plea to get me back.”
“Was that the one that said What Makes You Beautiful is about you?” I hummed in response, letting my head lay against his shoulder as I snuggled up to him a little more.
“As if.” I let out a little laugh, reaching out a taking Harry’s hand to play with his fingers.
“What do you mean ‘as if’?” He prodded, turning his head to look at me. “They don’t know I didn’t write that about you. You don’t know I didn’t write it about you!”
“Well did you?” I asked, brows raised and pushing my body up and turning ever so slightly to hold his gaze. Suddenly, Harry’s confidence seemed to dissipate as a hue of colour washed over his cheeks.
“Maybe.” He muttered bashfully. I let out a gentle gasp, pushing my face closer to his, our noses softly grazing one another.
“Really?” I whispered, a grin plastered across my lips. He nodded shyly, his eyes gazing into mine. “Awee Hawwy!” I exclaimed, adopting a baby voice as I leaned in, stealing a quick kiss before pulling away.
“Alright, alright, none of that.” He grumbled, pushing me away playfully.
                                                  -------------------
A ROMANTIC STROLL FOR STYLES AND HIS GIRLFRIEND
Well folks, if Harry Styles and his girlfriend couldn’t get any cuter in our eyes, they only go for a romantic stroll together, looking all lovey-dovey the night after One Direction take home the Brit Award for Best Single of the Year!
The two walked through London, hand-in-hand (of course), and even met up with Y/L/N’s chum, Saoirse Ronan for a spot of lunch to celebrate the big win. Albeit, it was probably far more low-key than the after party; an exclusive source close to the couple told us all about the party after the award show.
“Honestly they looked on cloud-nine!” They told us, going on to say, “Y/N was constantly congratulating all 6 of the lads, sharing in their elation. She’s seen how hard they’ve been working on this album, and the single.”
How cute is that?!
                                                  -------------------
“And the award for best single goes to...” Tinie Tempah smiled, pulling open the envelope as he leaned away from the microphone. “One Direction with What Makes You Beautiful!” He announced, joining in with the applause that erupted throughout the room. Harry, Niall, Louis, Liam and Zayn all shot out of their seats as they yelled with glee. They quickly embraced one another, clapping each other on the back in congratulations before they went to accept their award; not before Harry stole a quick kiss when the cameras were focused on the other four.
“Congratulations, baby, I’m so proud of you!” I spoke, loud enough for him to hear, but soft enough that it was just a moment shared between the two of us.
“Thank you, my love.” The six of them made their way up onto the stage, each accepting a friendly congratulatory hug from Tinie before Liam grasped the award.
The rest of the night seemed to pass in somewhat of a blur and before I knew it, we were joining the countless celebrities already at the venue for the after party. Harry’s arm slowly slipped around my waist as soon as the doors shut. Over the course of our relationship we had this unwritten agreement that we didn’t feel the need to subscribe to PDA, but we both knew it didn’t matter in here so much.
“I can’t believe we actually won!” Niall exclaimed, falling into the curved sofa in one of the corners.
“I can’t believe they let you underage lot in.” Louis joked, taking a gulp from his drink.
“We’re Brit Award winners, of course they’d let us in!” Liam laughed. Harry took a seat next to Niall, his hand pulling me down next to him. I sunk into his side as he sipped on his drink.
“Look at the lovebirds.” Niall joked, clapping his hand down on Harry’s thigh playfully.
“You’re just jealous.” Zayn laughed.
“Honestly guys, all jokes aside, I’m actually so happy for you. You’ve worked your socks off for this!” I smiled, looking around at them all. Harry pressed a kiss to my hairline, a grin on his lips.
“She’s my number one fan.” He smirked.
“Yeah, we’ve heard.” Louis interjected, immediately causing a flush to take over both mine and Harry’s cheeks.
                                                 -------------------
Harry and I lay in bed, the darkness of the night engulfing us as we held one another.
“You know, even with all this stuff about us all over the media, I still love spending time with you.” Harry muttered.
“I never doubted that.” I playfully replied, nudging the underside of his jaw softly with my nose.
“No,” He chuckled. “I mean it doesn’t make me not want to go out with you, you know?”
“What are you trying to say?” I asked, brows drawing together.
“Well I guess... I-I guess I’m trying to say I love you.” The silence in the room was only broken by my heartbeat racing.
“You love me?” Harry quickly cleared his throat, attempting to sit up as if to brush the subject away. He leaned to the side and turned on the lamp, looking at me. In the dim light I could now identify the anxiety swimming in his eyes.
“You don’t have to say it b-back.” He stuttered. “I just thought... you know... I just thought with all the time we’ve spent together, and after yesterday at the Brits... I just wanted to tell you, that’s all. But don’t say it if you’re not ready, or... or you don’t feel the same.” His voice trailed off towards the end, all the cheeky charm the media so routinely published about completely absent. A soft smile overtook my features as he stared at me. I reached out, my right hand holding my weight up as my left cupped his cheek.
“I love you too, Harry. I love you so much.”

In the latest episode of HBO’s new NSFW teen drama Euphoria, there was sex scene between Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. Well, kinda. One of the characters in the show, Kat (played by Barbie Ferreira), is famous online for writing One Direction fan fiction, specifically about Larry Stylinson, the name given to the theory that Styles and Tomlinson were, in fact, lovers. The sex scene in the episode actually comprised of versions of the two former boyband members in an animated scene lifted from one of this character’s stories. It’s unfortunate that the animation left Styles looking a little like Lord Voldemort and Tomlinson like a sweaty teenage boy.
But while that aspect of the show might not have been real, the conspiracy of Larry Stylinson very much is. Since One Direction were launched off the back of The X Factor in 2010, Tomlinson and Styles have been dogged by rumours that they are embroiled in a love affair. On Tumblr – a breeding ground for fan theories, fan art, fan videos and fan fiction – fans would collect GIFs, images and videos of the pair that “proved” that they were in a relationship. A lingering glance was decoded as a lustful stare, the brush of knees during an interview a sign of a secret intimacy. These in turn would mutate into smutty fan fiction about the pair, where these unspoken sexual wants could play out in full explicit glory.
In the tradition of Bennifer and Brangelina, their names, like their desires, were brought together for the portmaneu Larry Stylinson. Shipping them – the act of wanting two people to be together romantically – became a way of life for some fans. To this day, these fans, known as Larries, are unwavering in their belief, love and support of Larry Stylinson.
The same cannot be said for Louis Tomlinson. For nearly nine years, he has been dogged by rumours and speculation about his relationship with Styles. This latest outing of Larry in Euphoria is just another example of the theory’s pervasiveness. After the scene aired, some fans on Twitter messaged Tomlinson to see if he had been consulted about the scene. His reply was telling. “I can categorically say that I was not contacted nor did I approve it,” he wrote.
For years, Tomlinson has categorically denied that Larry is real. In 2012  he responded to a fan stating that “Larry is the biggest load of b——- I’ve ever heard”, and in a 2017 interview with The Sun, the Doncaster-born singer said that he found the rumours disrespectful of his relationships with women and shared how it had also affected his friendship with Styles. “It took away the vibe you get off anyone. It made everything, I think on both fences, a little bit more unapproachable,” he revealed. “I think it shows that it was never anything real, if I can use that word.”
The decision to include the animated Larry sex scene in Euphoria has provied divisive. On Twitter, One Direction fans have dubbed it “disrespectful”, “vile” and an “embarrassment”. Even self-professed Larries called out the scene and some fans went so far as to start a Change.org petition to have the scene removed from the episode. (At the time of writing it has over nearly 17,000 signatures.)
The fandom’s rejection of Larry, at first, seems hypocritical. How can the very people who have spent years perpetuating the narrative that Tomlinson and Styles are romantically linked show annoyance when that same narrative gets utilised in wider media? However, fandom, specifically fan fiction, is a contradictory and confusing beast. The thing is, Larry Stylinson is bigger than the two boyband members at its core. Their supposed romantic relationship really has nothing to do with them at all.
To give a brief history of fan fiction, the medium, while it always existed in some form, came to prominence in the 1970s in fanzines for the TV show Star Trek. Then known as slash fiction (the slash refers to the forward slash that divide the two characters, for example “Kirk/Spock”), these early writings reexamined scenes within Star Trek episodes where it appeared that there was coded queer behaviour, language or sexual tension. A chance meeting on the bridge of the USS Enterprise could result in steamy sex behind a computer console. A violent clash with a Klingon that left either Spock/Kirk injured, may end with a restorative tryst in a hospital wing.
As fan communities evolved from zines to online forums, so fan fiction became more widely accessible. Forums gave birth to sites like fanfiction.net and archiveofourown.org, where every intellectual property from Harry Potter to Bob the Builder was free game. And not every story written was sexual, either. Many fan fictions, while romantic in nature, kept their plots suitable for all ages. They also mainly took fictional characters and queered formerly heteronormative (or platonic) senarios.
Incorporating of real people – celebrities, public figures, popstars, actors, artists – into these stories propagated during this online boom of fan fanction. Portals like nifty.org had dedicated sections for celebrity fan fiction, while sites like Wattpad, a sort of social media site for writers to share their work, filled with stories about famous people. During One Direction’s imperial phase, Wattpad especially became a hive of 1D fan fiction.
And not all of it was slash fiction, either. Anna Todd’s popular YA novel After, which became a movie this year, had its beginnings as One Direction fan fiction on Wattpad. That story featured a heterosexual relationship. Her literary success follows in the footsteps of EL James, whose Twilight fan fiction was repackaged as 50 Shades of Grey.
Nevertheless, it’s fair to say that much fan fiction, smutty or not, specifically draws on queer narratives. The reasons for this are multi-faceted. Demographically, fan fiction is predominantly written by women. In the case of Spock and Kirk, it has been argued by academics that in queering their relationship, women were able to carve out safe sexual spaces in the world of fiction away from the dominant glare of patriarchal sexuality.
According to fandom academic Camille Bacon-Smith, the fact that the gender of the characters was the same allowed women to reconstruct men without the toxicity of masculinity. The American writer Joanna Russ added to this, suggesting that in this safe space, women were able to explore their fantasies outside the confines of heteropatriarchal normalcy.
In fact, Constance Penley, a professor of Film & Media Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, wrote in her book Nasa/Trek Popular Science and Sex in America that the gender of the characters was irrelevant. The act of having characters acknowledge their homosexual desires, she argued, was a metaphorical one, grounded in a desire to change “oppressive sexual roles”.
Still, exploring sexual desire with fictional characters doesn’t feel like an ethical problem. Neither, really, do private fantasies about real people. But fan fiction takes those private fantasies and makes them public. If authors like JK Rowling and Annie Proulx (Brokeback Mountain) take umbrage with fans writing their own stories using their made up characters, how do real people feel about having their lives dissected and fictionalised for entertainment?
The problem is the blurred line between celebrity and the human being. As celebrity’s lives playout on websites, television and physical media, their real life stories – often fabricated for headlines or sales – become a sport. There’s a twisted sense of ownership over these people. The public, as a throbbing and beating entity, made them famous. Their payment is their lives. The boundaries begin to disappear, and these human beings become characters in a soap opera. The internet, which its unending ocean of content, only helps to conjure more moments that fans can decode or adapt for their fics.
The implications of this are different for everyone. Stars like Benedict Cumberbatch and Andrew Scott, who played Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty respectively in the BBC’s cult favourite Sherlock, take the fictionalised versions of their lives in their stride. In an interview with MTV, Cumberbatch, while acknowledging that he found some of the racier stories weird, called it “flattering”. Daniel Radcliff and James McAvoy also seemed to be able to find the humour in it (although, again, acknowledging that they find it “really weird"). There’s also those who just outright ignore that this phenomenon exists.
Harry Styles, despite being one half of Larry Stylinson, has only ever alluded to it once. After the release of his debut solo album, fans speculated that the track Sweet Creature was about Tomlinson. In an interview with a radio station, Styles said: “I think people are always gonna speculate what songs are about, and I don’t think I’d ever want to tell anyone that they’re wrong for feeling what they feel about a song. Even when they’re not necessarily right. But I think if you really listen to the lyrics, I think you can work out if it’s really about that or not, and I would lean towards no.”
However, this level of ambivalence isn’t always easy. In a recent interview with British GQ, Taron Egerton expressed his discomfort with people writing fan fiction about him. “I don’t know why people think I’d want to see that,” he said. “I don’t love it at all.”
It seems that Louis Tomlinson exists firmly in this camp. And unlike these other celebrities, the ship he was involved in evolved into a full blown conspiracy theory. Fans accused management of keeping his and Styles’s relationship a secret. Paparazzi pictures, performances, interviews, press cuttings, tweets and Instagram posts were dissected for clues that the pair were linked. Tomlinson and Styles were bombarded on Twitter by fans, the first comment under every post on social media almost always being “Larry is real”. That level of scrutiny would have been difficult for anyone, but for a teenager progressing into young adulthood it was unbearable.
What’s debatable is whether any of these fans and their libraries of “proof” and “receipts” actually believe that Larry Stylinson is real or whether shipping them is just an extension of their fan fiction fantasies. For the millions of One Direction fans, the members of the group, while clearly real people, were also mythic, so far removed from their realities that they were almost imaginary.
Anyone who has ever truly obsessed over a band or musician can understand that this distance between true human interaction incubates a need to develop an alternative form of intimacy, be it through listening religiously to their music, attending concerts or cooking up fantasies.
And because of the inequalities in knowledge between celebrities and non-celebrities, where we know everything about them and they know nothing about us, these fantasies, and in turn our perceptions of them, become skewered. This mutation is the perfect breeding ground for fan fiction and conspiracy theories as we attempt to fill in the blanks in our intimate knowledge of celebrity lives.
In the case of One Direction, whose fans were mainly young girls and gay boys, this fantasy  became a way to explore their own sexual wants and desires. It’s what the showrunner of Euphoria, Sam Levinson, told The Los Angeles Times he was trying to convey by having the character of Kat write 1D fan fiction.
The fact that the members of that boyband were in a similar age bracket only intensified things. Intimacy and a coarse understanding of celebrity saw the lines between fantasy and reality blur, accelerated and magnified by social media. In a way, it stopped being about Styles or Tomlinson and became about the fans, the community they’d found, a safe space to explore their desires in which those desires were often mirrored and supported by others in their community.
Does all that make real person fan fiction okay? Speaking to i-D, sex psychologist Jess O’Reilly, put it like this: “How might is make someone feel? How would their parents, partner(s), kids or friends feel about reading it? How would they feel if their friends and family read your work? How would you feel if someone published a similar story about you, your child, your partner, your best friend, your sibling or someone else you love?”
For Tomlinson, who has repeatedly shared the impact the sexual speculation had on his relationship with Styles, maybe a line has been crossed. His discomfort with the theories and fan fiction, along with countless other public figures who take issue with it, should be respected.
And, really, in the pantheon of fandoms, Larry Stylinson was its own perfect storm of burgeoning internet cultures, the proliferation of social media and cute boys singing pop bangers. The need to share sexual desires in fan fiction and, by extension, romantic celebrity conspiracy theories, feels more complicated than mere right or wrong, but rather an expanse of grey, ethical ambiguity.
It also feels too late for it to stop, too. Perhaps, as the role and makeup of what constitutes celebrity evolves, accepting fan fiction in its myriad of forms, like with gossip and rumours, is par for the course. Clearly, it’s up to the individual to figure out if they’re okay with that.

Maybe Not Part 2: Someone Else’s Baby
Tumblr media
Summary: Part 2 of Maybe Not in which Ben finds out a little too late that he definitely wants to sweep you off your feet. Will you take him now?
Word count: 3687
A/N: There is a word count because it’s long guys. I am fully aware of the situation around Sony and Marvel sharing Spidey&co rights but for the sake of this one they are all just Marvel, okay? Okay. Also, it took me like two weeks writing this because it just didn’t seem to want to happen, although the awesome @rogertyalor lent me a hand in my time of need (I love you, thank you sooo much!) Anyway, I hope you enjoy, I tried to put this together about four times(?) but this is the final version and I’m happy with it! Blah!
Enjoy!!
You walked out of the lift with your assistant right behind you as you strutted all the way through the reception to the doors out of the hotel. Today you were going home after the wonderful end of the award season.
Lights flashed around in every direction once you stepped outside and the cameras captured the sight of you for prosperity or more accurately; for cheap gossip magazines.
The wonderful outfit put together on the last minute by your stylist for the long eleven-hour flight from the US to England consisted of a simple green retro Adidas tracksuit and a white bustier top that were paired with sneakers and a ponytail that gave your h/c hair a rest from the heat you had put it through during award season in order to look your absolute best.
Having received your first Oscar only two nights before for your role on room, you were officially a force to be reckoned with in the industry. The award for best actress would look good with your other baby: your Bafta. Along with the number of movies and plays you had been on since your childhood, it was obvious to the world that you were only getting better in your artistry.
Although the way to this day was fun, it was also paved with sweat and tears. Not everyone you relied on was there to see you grow out of your theatre child days, and the people who were had to conform with late night calls, rare brunch dates or straight up not seeing you for weeks or months while you did your research or trained as it had been the case before going into production with room, and before you took on the role of Jessica Drew. Who could have known that being a Spider on the big screen would open so many doors for you!
With the back door of the large SUV open, you stepped inside and sat with your assistant as she started cribbing in the agenda, while the car started moving she looked up and spoke from behind her pair of sunglasses, which she pushed on top of her head to lay as a headband of sorts on top of her dark blonde locks.
“You have a couple of days to yourself next week,” she smiled, her brows arching up. “tomorrow you have interviews in the morning and Maggie is meeting you at 5:00.”
Maggie, your manager, wanted to see you to have a chat about what the next steps in your career would be, as well as laying down the agenda for the year since you would be playing Spider-Woman again for the next Avengers, shooting was still a month away and you needed to be back on the gym soon if you wanted to feel entirely comfortable in your tight suit.
“Thank you, Liz.” You nodded and turned your attention to your phone.
Fishing the large flat apparatus from your Gucci backpack you unlock the screen and find a bunch of texts crowding your notifications, making you giggle as you go through some of them. Tom’s brother and amazing photographer Harry had decided that the best way of spending his morning was sending you pictures of himself with your lovely Savvy while he doggysat for both you and his brother. Although you loved to see your baby girl having a good time you hated to be away from her, since you were invited by Taika to become Spider-Woman and lead the way with your own solo film to introduce the character you were away from home a lot and Savvy sometimes had to stay home with your parents while you worked.
Along the messages there were some from Ben, who had taken the flight back home a day earlier than you, having only enough time to recover from the major hungover he gave himself after partying like it was ‘99 after the Oscars.
His texts ranged from “hey, how’s the prettiest Academy Award Winner in history?” to “I was wondering if you needed someone to pick you up from the airport? I’m offering if it wasn’t obvious enough Y/N.”
“Oh, damn…” you said out loud and turned your gaze at Liz, who cocked a brow your way with her own phone in her hands, “Ben’s offering to pick me up when we land.”
Liz let out a huff.
“Didn’t you say he never paid attention to you?” She accused you with narrowed eyes.
A chuckle escaped your lips as you thought about the old story. It came up after the first time Liz arrived at your place early one morning and Ben was already there in his comfy sweatpants, upon seeing you in your pj’s your assistant nearly had a heart attack thinking she had intruded in your personal life - wink, wink. Lucky for her Ben was clearly close to you but as his eyes showed nothing more than care towards you and his hands only found your hair to mess with the very top of it, Liz’s nerves were put at ease until your friend left and you were able to explain in full length that although you did have a huge crush on him it was only that and nothing ever would come out of it.
“He did not!” Your voice went up an octave, this was weird for you too. “Do you think he might be over-compensating?”
Liz shrugged as she looked up at the ceiling of the car. You twisted your mouth to the side and bit on the inside of your cheek as you pondered this.
“Does he know you’re landing at like 2:00 in the morning?”
You and Liz turn your heads to look at each other with small smiled appearing on your faces.
“Tell him!” She urges you, “that way you can tell me what happened when I pick you up.”
“Alright, alright!” You giggle as you send him a text to let him know you’d love it if he picked you up.
After putting your phone down on your lap you looked out the window. All the way to the airport you were caught up in your head; truth be told, you and Ben had distanced from each other since before you signed the contract with Marvel. After the tragic exchange you had at the dog park things never were the same, you could see Ben taking a step back from your relationship.
It did not change from one to the next, but every time you felt less like his friend and more like an acquaintance. Ben no longer arrived at your place for breakfast, he stopped texting you altogether after a while and all your contact would be through comments on your Instagram stories. From time to time you would meet at an event or see each other at friend’s parties or gatherings. All in all, you had only remained up to date with each other’s life to an extent, but nothing like it was before. You doubted it would ever be like it used to be, and blamed it on the afternoon at the park.
“Get out of your head, we need to go across the airport and the cameras are everywhere Y//N!”
Liz snapped her fingers in front of your face and made sure to put your phone away in her bag before the two of you went on a quest to avoid the comments and questions from the people taking pictures.
While you waited in line to get your stuffed checked by the security you heard Liz go on about what Ben was really looking for.
“Obviously he saw you with James and got jealous…” she sighed overdramatically, “good for him!”
“I’m sure he just wants to be a better friend, we did have a ball at all the parties…” You shrugged it off.
It was not until about eleven hours later that you landed back home. The media in London was going nuts over your win at the Oscars and it was overwhelming, to say the least, the reception you got with paps piling around the open spaces at the airport, the lights that blinded you and the yelling, oh the yelling!
“Are you now dating McAvoy?! Y/N! Y/N! Are you?!” Some of them yelled, somehow expecting you would give them any sort of answer.
With Liz and the security people walking you through to the exit, you held your phone close to your chest, not even able to reply to Ben’s texts as you had a small reminder of what everyone in British media was apparently going crazy about the pictures of you and James McAvoy taken while you were backstage at award show.
James was someone you’d known for quite some time since you first met while on the set of Penelope back in 2005, and upon seeing you win such an important award he was quick to find you backstage and wrap you in a tight hug that felt nothing else but fraternal, although it looked like something even romantic to everyone around the world. Deciding on staying close for the reminder of the evening did not help too much either with the gossips going around, traveling at the speed of broadband across the world…
So of course, by the time you saw Ben’s car outside you were aware of the confusion about to fly all the way back to America and hit the US media with full force as the passenger’s door was open and Liz got some security people organized to put your luggage in the boot. Ben’s face was unmistakable even behind the large RayBans and black cap. You stepped inside and covered your eyes with your hand as you watched the door being closed by your assistant.
“Get some sleep, I’ll see you at 10:00!”
Everything was - as is always was with the paparazzi, confusion, but Ben had a clearer mind than you and with one last glance at the mirrors, he put his hand on the stick and changed gears to start moving the car.
“Hey!” You finally managed to say as you left the blinding flashes behind.
“Hey you,” Ben said in an odd voice, cheery yet raspy as if he had been asleep.
“You know, I didn’t expect you to actually agree to come to get me.” You managed to say before a yawn hit you and you had to cover your mouth to let it out. “Thank you, though. Liz is happy to be going straight home!”
Ben let out a laugh and a small side smile appeared on his face, as he jokingly started teasing you.
“Well, of course! I did it for her, what did you think?”
Ben put his RayBans on the dashboard and you stared at his profile, tracing the outline of his little nose with your gaze as if by doing this you would be able to remember him better until the next time you had the chance to see him.
“Uh, do you want her number? I can hook you up!” You pushed some strands of your hair back, feeling like a complete mess after the long flight, “she’s like... 27…” You closed one of your eyes as you tried your best to remember Liz’ birthday, which you were sure was coming up in the near future.
“Gee, thanks!” Ben put one of his hands out as he kept the other one on the wheel. “I think I’ve got yours, that’s all I need.”
Laughing lightly you sniffed and crossed your arms over your chest feeling tired. The thing about flights like the one you just got off of was that you did not really rest while you napped up there and you arrived in the middle of the night so your body was ready to be tucked in.
“I never noticed,” you said and reached out to touch Ben’s ear, “there is this tiny little...mole on your ear.”
As you examined his ear Ben giggled and took the cap off, allowing for you to have the best view possible of his ear, which turned bright pink as you captured it between your fingers in your drowsy state of mind.
“How are you?” He wondered once you dropped your hands on your lap and looked out the window.
With one glance, Ben was smiling; you looked the same as you had looked before, when you were so close you would basically tell each other everything. You had braced yourself and laid your head on the side of the seat as you sat somewhat wrong with your body turned halfway to face him as he drove.
“I’m very happy, thanks.” You commented, “I’ve got a lot of work,l some is wanted and some is just...part of the job I guess. I have to get to the gym on Monday though...but yeah, I’m doing quite well. You?”
Ben stopped at a red light not too far from your home and turned his head to look at you with a nod before explaining to you that he was doing fine too.
“Playing Roger Taylor changed my life, I think I’m getting more attention from casting directors now.”
You hummed in glee. Happy for him, knowing he was a talented young man with a bright future since the day you met him, it made you proud and happy to see that he was climbing his way to the top.
“I haven’t watched the film, you know?” You admitted out of the blue. “I’ve seen some clips, but I’ve been so busy! Marvel’s sucking the youth out of me, Ben!”
“Could be worse, you could have to wear no shirt for your scenes…” he shrugged and kept driving when the light turned green.
“Ben, that is only bad for you, everyone else is just sitting at the cinema watching your gorgeous face match up with your wonderful abs. I don’t know why would I have to wear a skin-tight suit in which, by the way: I’m not even able to wear proper underwear with...that will end up being edited on the post anyway.”
“Underwear is overrated, Y/N, what are you talking about?” Ben said half-jokingly.
You cocked a brow at him and rubbed the sleep out of your eyes for the hundredth time that day.
“I don’t know what you are talking about… first thing I’m doing when I get home: put on some fresh underwear.”
Ben gave you a funny look before turning his attention back at the road. After only a few more minutes you arrived at your place, Ben helped you get out of the car and together pulled your luggage out of the boot of the car, going inside you realised that the house felt too quiet without Savvy. Ben followed behind you and waited until you closed the door, making sure you were safe inside.
“Ugh, I hate time zones…” you mumbled as you kicked your sneakers off, “no shoes in the house, Benjamin!”
He took off his shoes too and followed with your bags hanging from his shoulders and your large suitcase rolling beside him as you made your way to your bedroom through the long hallway.
It was slightly odd for both; Ben felt as if it had been only yesterday the last time he was here with you, but it also felt like he somehow had let you down when he noticed your pouty smile and the way you stood across from him, your shoulders back your hair a few inches longer than he ever remembered seeing it, you were, of course, the same person…
But the blonde had to admit, he was taken aback when he saw you on the first trailer for that Spider-Man film. You looked entirely different, and only by seeing your performance in that three minute clip he could tell you had been working on your craft, delivering lines with so much emotion it was almost funny that you were playing a comic book character - which was, in fact, the reason why Taika wanted you in on the project. Your follow up projects had been amazing, both with critics and audiences. You became a go-to blockbuster name, picking the best scripts and giving your all for every single take in your projects. Directors would not stop talking about how wonderful working with you was, other actors who had the pleasure of sharing screen time with you praised your professionalism and dedication to the thespian’s job. Ben spent the past couple of years feeling envy of everyone who got to not just work with you but spend time with the wonderful, funny, smart girl that you were.
“Oh, loverboy is on a mood again because Y/N posted another photo from the set of Avengers last night.” Joe would mock him.
He was not wrong, Ben had been thinking about you in ways he did not think he would ever do. His mind often took him to these images in his mind whenever he saw pictures of you with Tom Holland or Tom Hardy. The other Hardy was a tough one to get through to him, you two looked like the best of friends and sharing a love for Staffies you seemed to be unable to keep posting pictures of Tom playing with your dog on your ig stories.
But the definite last straw for Ben had been that flirty kiss you put on James' cheek at the Vanity Fair party after the Oscars. To you, it had been a friendly little kiss to someone who you admired and loved, yet it looked different under the bright flash and zoom of a professional pap camera.
“Thanks, Ben! You’re the best...” You called back at him as you walked into your bathroom to get changed for bed.
Ben stood in the middle of the room for a moment before taking out his phone and looking at the time, it was already almost four in the morning. He realised now that he did not think it through before sending you that text. He wanted to be with you, tell you this; but how? You were just so tired and as you said in the car: busy too! He would only be a nuisance.
He rested his hand on the edge of your dresser and let his eyes scan the few things on top, one of them a frame. The picture, he noticed was one of himself and you in the theatre after performing together for the last time. He had held you up in his arms and your mother had taken the picture, proud of her daughter.
A sigh escaped his lips. He knew you were not that young, it was also the way you listened to him, even though you had little time to speak to him you would always ask him how he was doing and always cared when he was not convincing enough to ask him again and get him to talk.
“Ugh, much better!” You opened the bathroom door, taking Ben out of his thoughts.
He looked up, his eyes scanning over your frame as you wore your old pjs, the ones he knew from almost three years ago.
“Winnie the Pooh does suit you.” He complimented you.
“Ha-ha.” You dropped your clothes on the laundry basket making sure your underwear was out of sight as you had changed it too for a fresh pair of knickers. “Are you gonna stay?”
Ben blinked in confusion, although by the look of things you did not mean anything but sleeping.
“I… should get going…” Ben scratched the back of his neck as you pulled the covers away from your bed.
“You can...I mean if you want to!” You rushed to say, “Liz is bringing breakfast in the morning and I bet it will be good.” You made your way up to him. “Besides, I would prefer you to stay.”
You wrapped your arms around Ben’s middle and snuggled up to his chest while he registered the moment and put his arms around you too, hugging you.
“Just stay. Please?” You mumbled, already half asleep wrapped in Ben’s warmth.
He gave up the second you put your hands on him, but he thought this should also be the moment he manned up and admitted his mistake from a while ago.
“Okay...but, Y/N?” he waited for you to look up.
When you tilted your head back and your e/c eyes met his green ones, he put his hand on your cheek and caressed it as he spoke again. Licking his lips he threw himself headfirst into the cliff, hoping not to land on rejection.
“I’d love to stay,” he paused, his small lips pursed for a second, “but I’d love to take you out on a date even more….”
Your jaw dropped as even in your sleep deprived state you remembered the way he so nonchalantly rejected you before...although it was undeniable the throbbing in your heart as you felt excitement over this possibility. Ben liked you.
“That’s such a suave thing to say!” You chuckled, “but yeah, I’d let you take me out and sweep me off my feet. Right now, actually...you could sweep me off my feet and put me there?” You pointed at the bed with your index finger and closed your eyes with a large sleepy smile on your face.
“Oh my god, you’re lucky I’m not a creep - like that Holland boy...”
Ben pulled you up in his arms and carried you bridal style to the bed, laying down and tucking you in.
“Are you jealous, Ben?” You giggled from the bed, watching him climb past you and into the bed next to you.
He put his arm under the pillow and turned to you as you rolled on your side to be facing him.
“Hm, goodnight Ben.”
“Goodnight Y/N.”
You cupped his face and kissed his cheek, almost certain that you were being pulled closer by your future boyfriend’s arm as you fell asleep at home - finally!

Review : It - Chapter Two (2019)
Tumblr media
Earlier this year, I finally joined the legion of film fanatics that saw the wildly successful release of It in 2017, largely due to the hype surrounding the release of It : Chapter Two, as well as a strong trailer for the second half of the film series.  After missing Chapter Two in a theatrical capacity, Vudu brought a killer deal to the table in the form of a bundle-pack with both movies at a reduced price, plus the added benefit of getting It : Chapter Two a couple of weeks prior to its official home release.
27 years after their initial encounter with Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård), the Losers Club returns to Derry, Maine in light of a series of deaths that inspires Mike (Isaiah Mustafa) to contact the other members.  Mike’s contact brings back a host of memories and fears to the former members of the Losers Club, each of whom have attempted to move on in their own way : Beverly (Jessica Chastain) has become a successful fashion designer in an abusive relationship; Bill (James McAvoy) is a successful author and husband to a famous Hollywood actress; Richie (Bill Hader) is a famous stand-up comedian; Ben (Jay Ryan) is in amazing shape and living as an architect; and Eddie (James Ransome) works as a risk assessor.  Unfortunately for the group, when Stanley (Andy Bean) receives word from Mike, he opts to commit suicide rather than face Pennywise, and upon learning of the news, Beverly realizes she has seen visions of each members’ death.  Under the guidance of Mike, who has become the town librarian (and who has become a bit obsessive over the Pennywise phenomenon), the group attempts to face their past and uncover relics to assist them in the dismissal of Pennywise once and for all.
This movie is insane.  While there is a narrative through-line carried over from the first story, the film examined on its own has the thinnest of plots : kids return as adults to fight Pennywise.  For nearly three hours, we are subjected to jump scare after jump scare in the form of referential ghosts and a possessed Henry Bowers (Teach Grant), and almost none of the heart and emotional weight that helped drive the adventures of the young version of the Losers Club forward on their quest.  With all of the adult hangups and attempts to mask past trauma in present actions, choices and success, you’d think there would be plenty of ground for deeper, psychologically damaging scares, but most of what we are presented is surface level in nature, providing little shock in the moment, and fading away as the next jump scare is set up.
That being said, for a ride that lacks depth, the ride somehow manages to still be a fun one.  The allusions and comparisons to Nightmare on Elm Street (in my opinion) are still present, and luckily, the movie chooses not to take itself too seriously, so fun is not sacrificed.  Much of what is presented in the film is so over the top that suspension of disbelief is a given, making Bowers the one true element of danger in an otherwise psychotic, shared fever dream that the living members of the Losers Club endure.  The group flies from death to death, traumatic experience to traumatic experience without taking the time for assessment, mourning or consideration for the bigger picture of their actions.  The premise of the ancient ritual of a weapon against Pennywise is accepted with literally zero pushback, and yet each character seems to straddle the fence between their connection to the group and a nagging need to run from Derry (although the need is never strong enough for any of them to follow through on it).
Of the many, many Stephen King adaptations committed to film, this one does feel the truest to its source material in terms of its humor, vivid imagery and pure insanity.  Not only is the film as funny as it is scary, it seems to be self-aware on a two important levels... narratively, it hops seamlessly between the adult and child members of the Losers Club without being confusing, and on a meta-level, the constant joke of Bill’s inability to end a book with any punch plays like an in-joke on King himself.  The special effects for the creatures, while completely over the top in terms of the mood presented, are visually entertaining and captivating, though not scary to the point of trauma.  The set design shines in this film, as the outdoorsy elements that parallel child life are substituted for dark, decayed and cramped spaces that echo the psyches of the Losers Club members.
Jessica Chastain stands out with her performance, managing to add a layer of what seems like true post-traumatic stress to the otherwise over-the-top situations presented in the film, and grounding much of the groups’ emotion in heart.  Isaiah Mustafa borders dangerously upon being a human Deus Ex Machina, with his position as town librarian serving as the premise for his seemingly encyclopedic knowledge of the events.  Bill Hader provides much needed levity without sacrificing the tone of the film, playing very well against his youthful counterpart from the first film.  James McAvoy does a suitable job of playing someone who deals with his issues inward, reverting into his own head and emotions when things get too much to handle.  Jay Ryan does a good job of balancing his childhood insecurities against his evolved looks and personality, ultimately never finding comfort in himself while still being completely hung up on the Beverly character.  James Ransome is unfortunately given the least to do in the packed cast, mostly playing the tag along and the crowd surrogate for fear.  Bill Skarsgard still seems to be having the time of his life playing the iconic Pennywise.  Teach Grant is entertaining in his manic nature, and formidable as the one human threat in a supernatural storm.  The child cast does well in both their reprisal of their original roles and their interactions with their adult counterparts.  Many of the adults in the children’s lives also reprise their roles as well.  Jess Weixler, Peter Bogdanovich and Stephen King make memorable cameos.
It : Chapter Two probably won’t end up topping anyone’s best-of lists for 2019, but for what its worth, the film certainly works in the spectrum of its series.  I’ll definitely be revisiting both of these films again, and will more than likely share these two insane treasures with my children, if given the chance.  These films certainly weren’t made to break any new cinematic ground or lead anyone to enlightenment, but in terms of their jobs as pieces of entertainment, I have to admit that they certainly succeed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The way back home went rather smoothly, the whole trip seemed natural as if going to your grandparents’ house was a weekly thing. You could definitely see yourself doing this more often with him. Entering your apartment you asked him, “ So… how did you enjoy farm life?”
“It was hard-- but I loved every minute of it. Mostly it was nice to see how you grew up and now I see why you’re such a hard worker.”
“Well I’m glad you loved it. More importantly I’m glad they loved you as much as I do. Papa was telling me before we left you’re like the city son he never had.”
“He said that did he? Haha, he must really like me then, that’s a relief!”
“Yeah I saw you two really hit it off. So uh… what’d y’all talk about?” you questioned him while wagging your eyebrows at him.
“Haha, oh no, I’m not telling unless you tell me what Nana really thinks of me.”
“She practically gushed over how handsome and polite you are, but we didn’t talk much about you… I mean we did but not mostly.”
“Well what did you talk mostly about then?
“We talked ab-- didn’t I ask you first?” you retorted, catching onto his tricks
James countered with a cheeky grin and laugh, “You already started!”
You rolled your eyes with a small laugh. “Whatever, we were talking about me possibly going back to school for photography.”
“Really?! That’s a great idea! What can I do to help make this happen?”
“Whoa, you can start by calming down for a second.. It’s just a thought right now, I’m still not sure if I should or not.”
“Okay, whatever you decide, I support you one-hundred percent. I really hope you do it though, I mean if it makes you happy then why not?”
You smiled giving thought to the encouraging words he spoke.
“Thanks for your your support. Now….. What did you guys talk about?”
“You…. all good things of course, but first you have to promise you won’t get mad at me..”
“....That depends, James, what did you do?”
“Nothing bad, but just so you know you mean everything to me and naturally anything you love I treasure as well.”
“Get to the point, McAvoy.”
“Well I talked to your grandfather about how he might feel if I asked you to move in together.,,, now I realize that we haven’t talked about that, but I’ve been wanting to ask you for sometime now, however, I wanted to get permission before I even proposed the idea. I wanted him to know you would be well cared for.”
You sat there, stunned. You weren’t mad, you were surprised that: A) your Papa agreed to this and, B) that James had been wanting to move in together. It isn’t like you hadn’t thought of asking him yourself, but this man cared enough to ask permission. His voice of concern cut through your thoughts and snapped you back to reality.
“Darling are you alright? You aren’t upset with me are you?”
“No, no! It’s not that...”
“Do you not want to move in together then?” The sadness in his voice just about broke your heart.
“James, honey, I’m just shocked. I should know by now you’re full of surprises,” you said with a small chuckle. “I didn’t suspect you were thinking about that and not to mention that Papa said yes.. He must really like you more than I thought.”
“Ah yes, well he did lovingly remind me of that 12 gauge he has. He even took the liberty of taking me to the old shed for target practice.”
“Haha, he did what?! I’m gonna get that old man.”
“So.. What do you say? Do you want to move in together??”
“Under one condition….”
He looked at you quizzingly. “Depends,” he said, half smiling.
“We get a dog.”
“A dog? Really, that’s it?”
“Yes! I’ve been thinking of getting one anyway. I kinda already have one in mind.” You pulled out your phone to show him.
James burst out laughing. “You’ve been looking already?! Without me? I suppose next you’re gonna tell me you have a name picked out already?”
Sheepishly you grinned at him.”Hehe, this is Chester...”
He laughed jovially. A sound that warms your heart every time.
“Come on just look at that face!”
His eye moved from the screen to your face, so full of love. He lifted you face to met his, kissing you deeply and passionately. “I love you (y/n).”
You smiled brightly, eyes glazed with adoration, “I love you too, James. You know, I think that the first time you’ve said that to me.”
“The first time I’ve said it out loud to you.”
---------------------
Standing on the balcony of your flat, you gazed out over the city as the sun was setting, the brisk wind sweeping your hair all around you. A content, languid feeling filled you from deep within as you had a look back on this past year.
James and you had moved in together, he had bought an opulent penthouse in New York for the two of you. It was probably three or four times too big, and at his core he really didn’t like being flashy, neither did you, but he wanted to be sure the two of you had enough space for his things and yours, and that Chester had plenty of room to move around while you two were at work.
The apartment seemed like something out of a high end magazine or those pictures from “Top 100 living spaces”. Every piece of furniture was top mark, every piece of art hand picked by both of you, every linen the best money could buy. It took a long time to get used to the lifestyle James could afford and lavish you in.
Finally though, the two of you adjusted. You worked around his filming and touring schedule as best you could. You worked diligently with Rachel while trying to pick up a few classes for photography, but with a full time job, it was a little bit of a struggle. James was gone for a good chunk of the year, but it didn’t put a strain on the relationship. Both of you felt it was healthy and a sign of a strong relationship. Of course you called, texted, and video-chatted whenever you could.
Not to say you didn’t have your ups and downs, you did, between the two of you being exhausted and overworked, and missing each other. But it was definitely more ups than downs. Every chance you were together was filled with love, joy, and tender touches.
You would’ve never dreamed in a thousand years you’d be standing here, in an expensive ensemble, getting ready for an event with an elite celebrity as your boyfriend, standing in an ornate apartment. Life had really pulled together for you -- finally. After all the trials and tribulations, heartache and loss, you could finally say you were happy.
James had surprised you, yet again, as he always did about six months ago. Your family farm was having some trouble, and although the pride your grandparents shared tried to keep it hidden, it wasn’t any secret. They already had to sell fifty acres last fall. So, your amazingly wonderful boyfriend took it upon himself to buy the farm - well over what it was really worth.
He turned around and sold it back to your grandparents for $1, handing them deed and all.
But the generosity didn’t stop there.
Working with your family firsthand, James had seen how tiring and backbreaking a farm could be, and he couldn’t fathom the amount of strain it put on your ever-aging grandparents. Which is why he hired some help. He told them to find some farmhands that they trusted and agreed to pay their full wages.
At first, your grandparents were overwhelmed and denied James over and over again until he firmly insisted. He couldn’t bear the thought of them losing their home, your home, their income, their livelihood due to pride. He knew times were tough and he could appreciate that more than most and just wanted to help out.
When they finally caved, it was nothing but waterworks. Nana started bawling like crazy before throwing her arms around James and kissing his face all over and cheering, before pulling you into the embrace, making it a happy-crying-hugging-fest. Papa teared up slightly but tried to hide it before shaking James hand and thanking him over and over again.
Every time you talked to them or called them, they said “Make sure to tell James we love him! And thank him for us!” It was rather adorable and it warmed your heart beyond any measure. They had truly taken him in as if he were there own, and it was a dream come true for you.
“Darling?” James’ voice sounded right behind you, stirring you slightly from your thoughts.
You spun to see him. “Oh, hi, love,” you greeted softly as he walked up, his hands behind his back. “I didn’t hear you come in,” you admitted.
“I sort of snuck in,” he confessed with a slight half smile. “I have a gift for you, brought it back from my trip,” he said.
“Oh?” you questioned, your brow quirking up.
“Mhm,” he said before pulling out a box from behind his back and handing it to you. “Go on, open it,” he encouraged.
“James, you shouldn’t have,” you gushed.
“I should have, and I did,” he said confidently as he gestured again at the box.
Sighing with an air of humor, you worked on unwrapping the bow and pulling off the paper, exposing a normal box. With a slight frown, you opened the box, exposing a camera inside. You pulled the object out, eyeing it with curiosity.
“James...What is this? You already gave me a camera? It works wonderfully.”
“I know...But I thought this camera was extra special,” he remarked as his eyes widened for a moment. “If you check the serial number, you’ll see this is the exact camera that you sold to go back home. The one your Papa got you. I was able to track it down and thought you might want this piece of history back.”
Speechless. No words came to you. Only feeling. Love, eternal and burning love forthis man in front of you.
“James,” you said, tears in your eyes before you finally wrapped him in a tight embrace and he laughed lightly. “Thank you, thank you os much. I thought this was lost forever.”
“No, surely not. Why don’t you fire it up and make sure it still works?” he suggested.
“Alright,” you said as you turned on the precious object, and you noticed there was already one picture on the SIM card. “Oh, looks like they didn’t wipe all the photos. Wonder what it was?” you said with curiosity as you opened the picture, and you were puzzled.
In front of you was a ring, in a box, it was an exquisite ring that stole your breath. You wondered what it could possibly mean, or why they didn’t delete it. You turned to James to show him and ask him, but when you turned, he was already on his knee, the same ring in hand, peering up at you with love and adoration.
Gasping, and nearly shrieking, you almost dropped the camera.
“James!” you exclaimed, your heart racing too fast, your mind doubling in speed.
“Y/N, this past year with you has been a dream come true. I never thought I could meet someone so caring, and sweet, and strong as you. And I’ve known for quite some time that I wanted to make you my wife and spend the rest of my life with you by my side. I will love you so long as there is sunshine. I will love you so long as the sea rushes to shore. I will love you so long as you continue to remain your loving, selfless, intelligent self. Could you do me the incredible honor of giving me your hand in marriage?”
Tears had streaked their way down your face, you hadn’t even realized you were crying, not really. But you were thrilled, excited, shocked, surprised, delighted….you weren’t sure what you were feeling, which made it hard for you to answer. Starting to nod, you realize he needed a verbal response, prompting you to swallow down the crying and finally say, “Yes! Yes, I’ll marry you!”
James stood quickly and kissed you earnestly, where you returned the favor before he slipped the ring on your finger, the two of you marveling at it.
As season 11 of Trailer Park Boys lands on Netflix, here’s my attempt at launching at a British version.
Trailer Park Boys returns for it’s 11th season today on Netflix. It is hugely popular around the world despite its very humble beginnings. It starts out as a documentary following Julian and Ricky as they get out of prison and attempt to go straight. They move back to the trailer park they have lived their whole lives, and the wacky characters of the park have made for a great comedy series eer since. After coming to an end on traditional TV, the three main actors (JP Tremblay, Robb Wells, and Mike Smith) kept the show going through a series of films, before launching Swearnet, their own produciton company and online network. They bought the rights to the Trailer Park Boys and have gone about making the franchise bigger than ever, having teamed up with Netflix to produce live specials, and even recently did a series with their characters touring Europe, which featured Noel Fielding in the first episode. They also regularly appear in character on chat shows, and there is a whole bunch of content on Swearnet featuring various cast members of TPB.
And with their international success, why not try to produce a British version?
Bear with me Bubbles, I think it would look a little something like this…
Julian (John Paul Tremblay ) to be played by …. ANDREW LINCOLN
Julian takes the lead in most of the boys schemes, and at times he is even moderately successful, before his loyalty to his friends and trailer park, the law, or sheer bad luck usually end up with him back at square one. He has gone legit a few times, running a bar/club/casino, and also various illegal plans such as a clean urine business. He is also the one who invited the cameras into the trailer park for the first time. As nominally the straight man in the trio, there were a few names that came to mind in a British version, including Martin Freeman, Ben Miller, and of course Idris Elba, because he should be in everything. None of them had the greasy edge that Julian has, until I thought of Andrew Lincoln. Although now a superstar due to The Walking Dead, his role in Teachers showed that he can do comedy drama, and obviously Egg in This Life wasn’t a totally straight role. And look at that picture of him in a black T-short and jeans – a bit more tricep meat and he’s perfect!
Ricky (Robb Wells) to be played by …. NICK FROST
Ricky is, simply put, an idiot. Rickyisms are one of the highlights of the show (“Make like a tree and f*** off”, “Looks like we need two turnips and heat” and “Don’t judge a cover of a book by its look” are some of my favourites), and I just think Nick Frost would be great at delivering them. He would also be brilliant with the physical comedy, as Ricky is constantly falling over:
  A natural Ricky!
Bubbles (Mike Smith) to be played by …. MACKENZIE CROOK
And so onto the breakout, and most difficult to cast, character. Bubbles started out as an odd neighbour, but over time has grown into being the heart of the show. He lives in a small shed and is devoted to his kitties, as well as being a budding singer. In turn, actor Mike Smith seems to be the most natural performer when it comes to the live shows. Although I toyed with the idea of Peter Kay or Steve Coogan doing a comedy character similar to a young Leonard the paper boy or Duncan Thickett. Or Marek Larwood from We Are Klang, to try and match Bubbles heer weirdness. But when it comes to oddball characters, giving it a British twist is what we do best, and I can’t think of anyone who would capture Bubbles’ nervous, naive nature than Mackenzie Crook. And in the same way that Gareth Keenan was originally a totally different character before Crook auditioned and won the role, Bubbles would be slightly tweaked by retain the spirit of the original character. Plus Crook is sublime in BBC Four’s The Detectorists, alongside the great Toby Jones.
Jim Lahey (John Dunsworth) to be played by …. JIM BROADBENT
The supporting characters in Trailer Park Boys are much more complex than in most comedy shows. Jim Fahey is the Trailer Park supervisor, an ex-police officer, with a serious drink problem. At the beginning of the series he is a comedic foil for the boys, almost like Officer Dibble in Top Cat, but later he goes on the offensive to try and get rid of Julian, Ricky, and Bubbles. He has season long arcs, and a love story for the ages with Randy. There were a whole bunch of slightly older British actors I considered. Paul Whitehous, Timothy Spall or Mark Heap. But there’s a underlying tragedy to Mr Lahey, and I think that Jim Broadbent would be fantastic in this role. He has a background in comedy, and one of his most recent roles, as James McAvoy’s therapist in Filth, shows that he isn’t afraid to get weird when required.
Randy (Patrick Roach) to be played by …. JOHNNY VEGAS
Randy is the Assistant Supervisor at the Trailer Park for most of the show, occasionally holding different positions depending on the whims of the owners. At one time in their younger days he was friendly with Julian, Bubbles, and especially Ricky, but now he is on the side of law and order, helping Lahey to thwart the boys. He is also truly in love with Mr Lahey. There was only really one choice for the role of the shirtless, cheeseburger-eating, rotund Randy – Johnny Vegas.
Sarah (Sarah Dunsmore) to be played by… JESSICA HYNES
Onto the female characters. Sarah has got the measure of the boys, never taking any of their nonsense and with almost no romantic entanglement to cloud her judgement. She is also far more successful than Julian when it comes to planning and executing schemes – Trailer Park Girls would be a much different show! Jessica Hynes is a comedy great – she was one of the highlights of my Christmas countdown with her star turn in Nativity 2 – and as a smart woman trapped by her circumstances, she would be perfect. She’s also grown beyond her role as Daisy in Spaced, but I reckon we could work in one reference with her and Nick Frost, and someone else later on…
Lucy (Lucy Decoutere) to be played by… SHARON HORGAN
Another smart, confident woman who is held back by one thing – although with Lucy it is her love of Ricky that keeps dragging her back to him. She knows that she deserves better than him, but she loves him so they always end up back together. Although Horgan has made her name with starring roles in comedies like BBC Three’s Pulling and more recently Catastrophe which has been picked up by Netflix. This has led to her new show Divorce getting picked up on HBO, starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Thomas Haden Church.  This would be a great role for her to just be a comedy actor though, a bit like when Chris Morris was in the first series of The IT Crowd.
Barb Lahey (Shelley Thompson) to be played by… JULIA DAVIS
Barb is the owner of the Trailer Park, and the wife of Jim. She also has a bit of a dark edge to her, being ready to act in her own self-interest and sell the park to anyone with the money. Julia Davis would be great to be involved, stuff like Nighty Night and Hunterby more than shows her comedy chops. I also see Barb as a young woman being impressed by dashing police officer Jim Lahey before he lost his job and fell into his spiral of self destruction, so that is why she is so much younger than Jim Broadbent. This would also help her bond with Lucy and Sarah, who I’ve always thought more of as an older sister rather than a mother figure.
J-Roc (Jonathan Torrens) to be played by …. SIMON PEGG
J Roc is the trailer parks’ resident wannabe rapper. He has a million and one catchphrases that have evolved over the course of the show,“maafk”. For the equivalent version in Britain I needed a very British comedian with a love of hip hop – so why not Simon Pegg? I reckon we could shoehorn in ONE Spaced reference with the Tim, Daisy, and Mike reunion.
Cyrus (Bernard Robichaud) to be played by …. JASON STATHAM
You didn’t think I could get through this without The Stath, did you? Cyrus is the inept faux gangster/pimp/tough guy who is the Boys main criminal antagonist. I’ve not recast everyone in the series, but Cyrus would be the big bad over the course of the first season of my British version of Trailer Park Boys.
Sebastian Bach (Sebastian Bach) to be played by …. BRUCE DICKINSON
Rockstar Sebastian Bach plays a recurring role in Trailer Park Boys, and a British reboot would need someone of a similar stature. Iron Maiden front man Bruce Dickinson could get involved with a drug distribution scheme either with his band on tour or with his own jet (he’s got a pilot’s licence).
Cory and Trevor (Cory Bowles and Michael Jackson) to be played by… DANIEL RADCLIFFE and RUPERT GRINT
Cory and Trevor are basically used by Ricky and Julian as a supply of cheap labour and free cigarettes. They are basically included in the plans to be ready-made scapegoats and take the rap when things naturally go wrong. So why not get the boys from Harry Potter back together?
But where is it set?
Sunnyvale, Nova Scotia to be replace by… BRIDLINGTON, YORKSHIRE!
In this country, we don’t really have “trailer parks” on the same scale of North America, so it has to be a seaside resort. Bridlington it is!
And that’s it for my British version of Trailer Park Boys. I’d like to thank our Senior Wrestling Correspondent Jonny Hogarth for his help as a sounding board to bounce my ideas off with this article, as I mentioned throughout there really were a a lot of names in the mix. What other shows would you like to see remade in a British setting?
So, what do you think now, Bubbles?
That’s all I ever wanted to hear.
Until next time, stay gold Ponyboy, stay gold. See you soonish.
Take a look below!
Annabelle: Creation Manager David F. Sandberg’s prequel into 2014’s Annabelle — and the fourth episode in The Conjuring world — proved a smash hit, grossing over $300 million over a $15 million dollar funding. This time, we understand the origin of this Annabelle doll that is creepy, dating back to if his wife and a dollmaker shed their kid in a car collision. Years later, the few let girls that are young, under the attention of a nun, to come in their home, and that is if the haunted antics start. Particular features on the Blu-ray include two terror shorts known as “Attic Panic” and “Coffer,” deleted scenes, director commentary and a sneak peek at the upcoming Conjuring spin-off The Nun.
The Emoji Movie This phone-based animated film got Candy CRUSHED by critics but must prove to be a fun offering for your little ones. T.J. Miller is your voice lead, a “meh” emoji who can really show numerous expressions.
An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power Al Gore’s Oscar-winning documentary which helped win him the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize returns for a regrettably much-needed follow up. With the struggle to produce the U.S. citizens and Government comprehend the urgency of climate change, it does not hurt to have a refresher program.
Bushwick Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Drax) leads this activity thriller where a Texas militia takes over a Brooklyn neighborhood. Bautista and Pitch Perfect‘s Brittany Snow need to fight their way out in order to escape to New Jersey.
Dave Produced a Maze One of the most creative and, quite frankly, insanely-imaginative pictures of this year is that this low-budget indie comedy from first-time manager Bill Watterson (no relation to the cartoonist). It follows a frustrated artist named Dave (comedian Nick Thune), that assembles a fancy cardboard labyrinth in his living space which goes magically out of control. The Meera Rohit Kumbhani that is fantastic performs his girlfriend, who ignites a rescue party save Dave and to join the DIY wonderland. The film is full of Michel Gondry-esque set pieces and some bits that are genuinely funny, although it does suffer from slow pacing even though a runtime. If you’re searching for something unusual that you won’t soon forget, we can’t recommend Dave Produced a Maze sufficient!
Reissues
Demon Wind Our pals at vintage reissue tag Vinegar Syndrome have got two terror oddities out this week just in time for Halloween. The first is the 1990 film Demon Wind, wherein a bunch of youngsters travel to an isolated farm to find out exactly what happened to a guy’s grandparents 60 decades before. They end up getting attacked by demons, with a lot of nods to Sam Raimi’s first two Evil Dead movies along the way and a few halfway decent monster makeups.
Blood Beat The next Vinegar Syndrome reissue is that the eccentric 1983 chiller Blood Beat, about a girl possessed by a big, blue-glowing soul of a murderous samurai warrior. This is surreal terror than you may be employed to but it sure is one-of-a-kind.
Web of the Spider Garagehouse is publishing this shocker from 1971 on Blu-ray to the first time. It’s Italian manager Anthony M. Dawson’s color remake of his own black and black 1964 horror film Castle of Blood, and contains Klaus Kinski as Edgar Allan Poe, that makes a wager with a journalist (Anthony Franciosa) that he can’t spend on night in a haunted castle.
Movie News 07/23/17
Hello Everyone, and welcome back to your Movie News Email.
  Each week we count down the top 5 box office hits of the weekend, and bring you the news that we have learned from the past week.
  This week we find out if "Spider-Man: Homecoming" was able to recapture the top spot (as I predicted that it would.  Man, I hope I'm right.  I hate being wr......), we have some more news from D23, and we have some news coming out of San Diego Comic Con.  All this coming at you this week.  Enjoy.
 First off, we sadly have to add an "In Memorium" segment to this week's edition.
John Heard, the man known mostly for his role as the father in the "Home Alone" movies has passed away at the age of 71.  John's other main role was that of a corrupt detective in "The Sopranos".
John was found dead at a California hotel where he was staying while recovering from a recent back surgery.  No cause of death has been reported at this time.
Rest Well, John.
  OK, to the box office.  We had 3 new movies hit the theatres this week, and, surprisingly, all three hit the top 5.  Well, that knocks one of my predictions out.   Let's see who took the number one spot.
  We start at number 5, and the first of our debut films.  I expected this one to hit the top 5, but I wasn't sure where it would land as I said this has the potential to be a new cult classic.
"Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets took in just over 17 million dollars to take the first spot of our list.  A little disappointing for the film, but it really wasn't promoted as much as I thought it should have been.
One of our members was going to see the film.  Hopefully we will get a review for next week's edition.
Taking the number 4 position is last week's number one movie.  "War For the Planet of the Apes" pulling in 20.4 million dollars, could not hold the top spot. (As predicted)
At number 3 we have "Spider-Man: Homecoming". (Damn, I was wr...-Not right.) Spidey took in another 22.1 million dollars to bring it's domestic gross over 251 million.  It will still be interesting to see what happens to it over the next couple of weeks.
At number 2, is the second of our debut films, and another not right prediction on my part.  I thought this film would not hit the top 5, but Queen Latifah's "Girl Trip" pulled in an impressive 30.3 million dollars and very handily snagged the number two position.  (Oh well, can't pick them all.  Congrats to the cast and crew)
And our new number one movie is one that I hoped would make the top 5, but am also a little surprised to see it hit number one, but I am glad it did.
The WWII historical drama from Christopher Nolan, "Dunkirk" easily took the number one position with 50.5 million dollars.
This one, I want to see.  I may not get a chance until it comes out on DVD, but it is one I will see.
If anyone has seen this one, or any of the other new releases, please let me know.  I would love to hear what you thought of it.
  So that's what happened this past weekend.  What's coming out next week?
Well, we have two movies opening in major markets next weekend.  And to be honest, I have no clue what they are going to do.  I suspect both will debut in the top 5, but I am not sure where they are going to land.
First up is the animated movie based on those little pictures we all (Or most of us) use in our texting.  "The Emoji Movie" stars the voices of Patrick Stewart, James Corden, Jennifer Coolidge, and Jake T. Austin.
The second of our new movies is "Atomic Blonde" and stars Charlize Theron and James McAvoy and is being touted as the first female James Bond.
I have seen trailers for both movies and I have to be honest.  Neither one excites me to go and pay $10.00 to see them, let alone $17.50 to see them in an IMAX theatre.
But if anyone gets to one of these and likes them, let me know.  I have been wr.... Not right a lot this week.  What's another couple times.
  So let's get to the news, and we have quite a bit to cover.  So let's not waste any time.
Here is what we have heard so far coming out of SDCC.
  FX's "Legion" creator, Noah Hawley confirmed that he is developing a movie for Fox centered around the Fantastic Four's number one villain, Doctor Doom.  The movie will not have the Fantastic Four in it, however.
Marvel's "Ant Man and the Wasp" added a new name to the project.  Janet Van Dyne, wife of Michael Douglas' Hank Pym, will be played by none other than Michelle Pfeiffer.
  DC now as the next movie slated after "Aquaman", and it is "Shazam".  David F Sandberg will direct. It was expected that either "The Flash" or the Joss Whedon "Batgirl" would be the next up, but since they are still in early development, it was decided that "Shazam" be next.  Shooting is expected to start in 2018 for a 2019 release.
  DC has also revealed it's lineup of movies as well.  No dates attached to them yet, but here is what they said is up and coming. It starts with Justice League, Aquaman, then Shazam.  After that it's "Suicide Squad 2", "The Batman", "Justice League Dark", "Batgirl", Green Lantern Corps", "The Flash: Flashpoint", and finally "Wonder Woman 2".  No word on "Gotham City Sirens", nor "Nightwing", but don't give up on them.  They're coming
  Hot off the heels of "Shazam", we have a couple of release dates from DC now.  They are:
Feb 14 2020
June 5 2020
  Now we don't know which movies are going to take those two spots, but more than likely it will be "Suicide Squad 2" and "The Batman"
  And who is going to play "The Batman"?  Well, Ben Affleck answered that question at SDCC.  He is.  Period.  That pretty much puts those rumors to rest.
  In a Facebook post, Todd McFarlane is writing and directing a new verson of "Spawn".  McFarlane created the character as his flagship title for the "Image" comic book company which he started. In the 1990's, McFarlane became the biggest name in comics art and storytelling with his work on Marvel's "Amazing Spider-Man, and the spinoff series "Spider-Man".
  The Russo Brothers have announced that production has wrapped on the "Avengers: Infinity War".  The movie now moves into post production where voice overs, special effects, music, and editing takes over and cleans up the movie.
  Well, this next bit of news isn't movie related, but it is Star Wars related and it is just too cool not to talk about.
  Now we all know that Disney is creating a Star Wars land as part of the parks in both Florida and California.  Well, at D23 they named it.  "Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge".  This will be a totally immersive experience.  When you enter the land, you are entering into the world of Star Wars.  You will first meet the rebels in a forested area, then as you enter the city, you will interact with the First Order, as well as bounty Hunters.  While in the park, what you decide has consequences.  One area you get to pilot a ship similar to the Millennium Falcon.  If you don't fly it well, the boss will not be happy, and when you go into one of the cantinas, you may find you have a bounty on you for damaging the ship.
  And the hotel resort that resides in the park will be completely Star Wars related.  All employees will be in character 100% of the time.  You check in, possibly get a costume, and interact with the role playing characters working there.
It is set up to be in the style of being on a spaceship, so when you get to your room, you do not look out over the park, you have a screen that shows you being in space.  And from what I understand, you get to see yourself lifting off from the docking bay and going into space.
It's a two night stay, and a price tag of $1000.00 per person.  (I take donations, by the way).
"Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge" will span over 14 acres of land and is targeted for a 2019 opening.  Who's going?
  And coming out of SDCC, have we got a toy for you.  Well, maybe not for you, but for the kids.  From Radio Flyer, the makers of the metal red wagon, comes an actual scaled down replica of Luke's landspeeder.  Now this isn't a pedal car, but a motorized vehicle, similar to the Power Wheels. Not available yet, but I am sure it will be before Christmas. (When are they going to build one for adults???)
  Whew!!! Enough for you for this week.  Yeah, I think so too.  More and more information is coming out of SDCC, and will continue to do so all week long, and we will bring that news to you as we learn more of it.  But look for more trailers for "Black Panther", "Thor: Ragnarok", "Justice League", "The Inhumans", "Ready Player One", and many more to surface.  I have seen a few of these, and they look fantastic.  It's going to be a lot of fun.
  So that's it for this week.  A big thanks to everyone who has given me their thoughts on movies they have seen, or news they have heard.
I hope you had a good time reading this and enjoyed it.
  If you would like to receive the Movie News Email outside of the building, just drop me a line at
[email protected], and I will start emailing them to you from there.  If you have any information or reviews, you can also leave them for me there.  It's easier to get to than my regular email.
We are also blogging, at least I think we are.  Not really sure.  But go to Tumblr.com and search for Movie News Email.  Let me know if you find it so I know I am doing it right.
  Come back again next weekend for the next edition of your Movie News Email.
  See you then.
