Watch Out, Boys ✷ cl16
✷ SECOND INTERLUDE OF THE TAMING OF THE HEARTBREAKER
━━━━━  PREVIOUS & NEXT !
in which... Y/N's invitation to the Miami GP means trouble !
Tumblr media
AS THE HALL & OATES' SONG GOES: "Watch out, boys, she'll chew you up." Because, if there's one thing we know, it's that putting Y/N L/N and 20 conventionally attractive men in the same place is never a good idea.
Yet, that is precisely what's going to happen in a few days at the Miami International Autodrome. The actress, who will play the iconic Barbie in Greta Gerwig's adaptation, has been invited by Ray-Ban to the Miami Grand Prix on May 8.
The news was announced on Ferrari’s TikTok account⏤which the eyewear brand sponsors⏤and has since then sparked numerous reactions. While these vary, one common thread stands out: the fear of havoc. Admittedly, L/N turns heads and sows discord wherever she goes.
Formula One is already a chaotic world, adding Y/N L/N and her shenanigans to the mix would only make it worse.
Since her list of actors waiting to be seduced is dwindling, this event presents itself as a bargain for the Academy Award-winning actress, who will only have to draw someone from 20 options to be her next prey.
If the possibilities are considerably reduced by one small element to consider⏤the WAGs⏤L/N has shown before that she is not above immorality when it comes to getting her way. Her affair with Harry Styles, even though he was rumoured to be in a relationship with Olivia Wilde at the time, is formal proof of this.
Hide your men, ladies, because The Heartbreaker is in town and ready to pounce!
Tumblr media
✷ SEE ALSO ON LOVE CLUB... !
Y/N L/N named the highest-paid actress of 2021 by Forbes
"Name a more iconic character? You can't" Y/N on being cast as Barbie for Greta Gerwig's movie
Is Harry Styles cheating on Olivia Wilde with Y/N L/N?
Tumblr media
Of course, all eyes are now on the two Ferrari drivers, with whom L/N will spend most of her time (common sponsor dictates), and more particularly on Charles Leclerc, who is single.
It has been almost a month since the woman was last seen with anyone. A record! She's probably more determined than ever to get her hands on some fresh meat, and what better than a handsome, muscular driver who can speak French? We all know L/N's soft spot for the language of love. Her interviews remind us of it enough. So do her many French conquests.
We just hope that the actress' famous bedroom eyes will not trouble the Monegasque and make him lose his race. The fans of Il Predestinato would not react kindly to this.
He is, after all, one of the current favourites for the championship.
In any case, no matter what happens over the weekend, the outcome is bound to be interesting. Because, while her actions are open to criticism, Y/N L/N's impact is undeniable.
The woman is already the talk of the paddock and she hasn’t even set foot on it yet.

It's already a miracle that she hasn't tried to fuck football players yet, if she could keep this up with F1 it would be great.
Anonymous 38 minutes ago
I will never understand why celebrities who have nothing to do with F1 and probably don't give a shit about it either are invited to all GP. It's ridiculous.

There's something about Y/N that I just hate. It's physical at this point. I can only stand her in movies. Probably because she doesn't act like herself in those...
Anonymous 1 hour ago
No, but I swear she really has a libido problem. This is the only explanation. She must be a nymphomaniac. Or just a whore. Or both.

How about how each of the Curtis boys comfort the others vs how they like to be comforted? Or I guess their love languages?
they deserve to have all the love and comfort in the world 😤😤 hope you enjoy!
(These are all gender neutral)
Darry Curtis:
Tumblr media
Darry shows his love by acts of service. Whether that's cooking or helping to clean up or by working multiple jobs to provide. To him the best way to show you that he caress about you is to make sure you're provided for and aren't stressed or worried about anything getting done. He remembers details that you think he wasn't unaware of. He knows what kind of meals you like and the ones you can't stomach. He knows your favorite song. He knows what you need when you've had a bad day.
I also think that he would prefer to receive love through acts of service and/or words of affirmation. Please tell him that's doing a good job with his brothers, that he's loved and important. That dinner was really good tonight. That you like how his hair looks that day. He also really feels your love the most when you take some of the load off his shoulders by getting things done that were on his to-do list. I've said it in so many of my headcanons that I'm sure everyone who has read them is sick of it lmao but I believe it! I believe that having a partner who doesn't mind picking up the slack would do him a world of good.
I don't know if Darry is necessarily "great" at comforting others in a physical sense. I mean, in the context of the book and film, he's a more hands off approach to looking out for others. So I think that his acts of service are his way of comforting others paired with a hug here and there!
The best way to comfort him is again, words of affirmation and verbally fighting the demons that are causing him to feel poorly. He doesn't think he's good enough or doing good enough so much of the time. So combat that with praise and run your fingers through his hair, wrap your arms around him and squeeze all that love into a hug.
Sodapop Curtis:
Tumblr media
Definitely shows love through physical touch. Again, if you watch the movie you see how touchy Soda is amongst the gang. We see him touching Ponyboy's face, ruffling hair, wrapping his arms around his friends' shoulders, lots of hugs. The more touchy he is with you shows his comfort level. If you don't like being touched, he tries his best to respect your boundaries, it's just very hard for him.
Prefers to receive love through quality time or physical touch. If you return his touches or the physical affection that he gives you, he feels so loved. He likes it especially when you give hugs or fuss over any scraps and bruises he has. He would also really feel your love through the amount of time you spend with him. With such a busy life and a house full of others, he appreciates when you go out of your way to spend quality time with him one on one.
Comforting Soda usually involves some kind of hugging or back rubbing if you don't mind it. Likewise, him comforting you typically involves *insert fake surprise here* physical contact LOL I'm sorry that's repetitive but it's true.

Why You Shouldn't Watch Loki S2
With Season 2 of that show making its debut tomorrow, I thought I would make one last ditch effort to convince people not to watch it. It's not just because it's a horrible show that makes a mockery of my favorite Marvel character. There are a lot of problematic elements that contribute to the long list of reasons why people should not give Disney their money or ratings.
I am imploring people, one last time: If you must hate-watch the season, pirate it. If you must watch with some lingering hope that the real Loki will somehow make an appearance (and based on the reviews I have seen, that seems very unlikely), pirate it. Please don't contribute to Disney's ratings. Disney isn't going to care if you're hate watching or if you are only watching it hoping to get a glimpse of the Trickster we all know and love. They only care about numbers, and high ratings might mean we'll get stuck with another season of this utter dreck.
That said, here are some reasons why you should rethink giving this show your views:
It glorifies abuse and torture
In this show we are treated to the sight of Mobius using torture as "therapy", emotionally beating Loki down to the point where he capitulates to the TVA's demands, punishing him for having a crush on someone else by sticking him in a room for hours (at least) with an illusionary Sif who kicks him in the balls and punches him on repeat while further hammering the whole "you'll always be alone, you don't deserve good things" message, and generally working for an organization that subjects Loki to mockery, bullying, sexual assault (being stripped without his consent--that scene wasn't hot. It wasn't sexy. It was horrifying and I really, really have to wonder about the mental state of anyone who is at all turned on by it. Think about it, if Loki were a woman who was being forcibly stripped, there would have been loads of hatemail filling up Disney's servers), and slavery.
That's even before we get into the atrocious way Sylvie treats him. I've gone into how she treats him many, many times, how she belittles, invalidates, silences, and oh yes tries to kill him for daring to ask her to reconsider killing HWR. If the roles were reversed and Loki treated Sylvie like that? You ladies who love the ship so much would be boycotting Disney. It's no less abuse just because it's a woman doing it to a man.
It glorifies fascism
The TVA is very much Nazi coded yet they are framed as heroes...well, except when they're picking on Sylvie of course, since she's all pure and good and can do no wrong (Mary Sue powers activate!) They torture a character who is very much Jewish coded, an effeminate man who is very much the Other in the home he grew up in.
And what the hell is this?
Tumblr media
As a Jew, I find this image deeply, deeply disturbing. It's a fucking gas chamber, y'all. It. Is. A . Gas. Chamber.
I don't know how anyone can NOT see how problematic it is.
It has Jonathan Majors in it
I really don't give a flipping shit if they're "only" allegations or if they wrapped up filming before the allegations came out. People boycotted Flash for Ezra Miller doing basically the same thing, so I don't see why it should be any different with Majors.
But then I know from experience that some of you so-called feminists out there are only about protecting or believing women when it suits you. Can't have a little thing like not supporting a domestic abuser get in the way of your wish fulfillment self-insert fantasies of beating the crap out of Loki before fucking him.
The first season was written by a total creep, and that same creep is producing the second season
Tumblr media
'Nuff said.
Selfcest/Incest
I don't want to hear how "selfcest doesn't exist", especially in a fictional universe where you have sorcerers, witches, men with super soldier serum running in their veins, magic plants that turn individuals into superstrong Cat People, and talking raccoons.
And even without the selfcest, that ship is a very problematic one, as I stated above, and have continued to talk about at length.
It's just plain awful
The plot is predictable, full of holes, and not even that original (it's cribbed directly from a script Waldron wrote that was so awful, even SyFy wouldn't produce it, plus see my post with the clip from Batman Returns). Loki is grossly OOC in it...seriously, there is not a single hint of the character I had grown to love from Thor 1, Avengers, and the Dark World. He's nerfed all to hell (an Asgardian god who can take on Thor easily is beaten up by human rednecks?), and he's lost all his cunning, wit, intelligence, and grace all in favor of turning him into a sophomoric slapstick clown and the butt of everyone's jokes. The newer characters are poorly mapped out and one dimensional.
It's just...bad.
So there, that's my last ditch attempt to convince people to boycott this piece of shit. I realize my pleas might be falling on deaf ears, much as Loki's pleas fell on Sylvie's, but I had to get it out there.
Other Loki show antis can add to this or elaborate if they want. I'm too tired to be too coherent right now.

The Millennium Bug (2013) is, for me, a brand new entry on my short list of "please stop telling people to watch Cabin In The Woods" movies. I have a long standing grudge over the degree to which CITW is lionized as a great tribute to horror, despite largely showing little to no understanding of the genre in general, nor much in the way of respect to its audience.
So you can imagine how amused I was when Millennium Bug kicked off by immediately front-loading multiple unique horror subgenres into the opening act. While CITW attempts to throw every single subgenre into the blender of the slasher/cabin tropes, giving itself the usual Whedon smug pat on its own back, Millenium Bug wears its clear subgenre stereotypes on its sleeves. Which is both for better and for worse.
As a gruesome slasher / monster mash-up flick, it suffers from many of the major flaws you might expect - particularly because it draws on the redneck murder clan for one of its subgenre story elements. It is a movie where the subtext goes unexamined, and you'll know immediately whether or not you need to tap out within the first ten to twenty minutes. But if you're willing to leave the social elements less examined, what remains is a movie that's having an absolutely incredible and delightfully practical effect fueled time playing around in all the silliness to be mined from its three core concepts.
To return to the comparison, CITW relies heavily on metatextual genre awareness of the audience and the characters. However, in attempting to be ironically detached from the genre cliches, it betrays its own lack of understanding of the material. It's a movie that's 80% less clever than it constantly tries to remind the audience that it thinks it is. In contrast, Millenium Bug has what feels like virtually zero metatextual genre awareness to the characters, and no ironic detachment whatsoever. It does expect an audience to know what's up with the redneck murder clan, monster movie, slasher, and holiday themed subgenres - not to mention doing a nice job at hearkening back to older models of horror as you might get pre-millenial. You will find lots of gore, giant rubber and latex monsters, people acting in the most absurd ways and all of it delightfully cradling you in the comfort of a film that doesn't talk down to you, or expect you, as the audience, to be above it all.
It's hard to call it great or even good, I can't do any of that in good conscience. This is not one of those movies where I want everyone to see it, which I think will be fun and exciting for the casual horror movie viewer, or anyone who is looking to get into horror but doesn't want to get hit with a bunch of triggers and the like. I love recommending all those types of films, but this ain't it. The Millennium Bug is for the deep in the much horror movie fan, it's The Ritual by way of Frank Henenlotter - and if you got that reference you probably wanna see it regardless. It's garbage, but it's our garbage.

I don't often talk on here about that many passions outside of D&D but inspired by a very brief exchange by @plethomacademia I want to talk very briefly about my great love for period dramas.
I'm a particular fan of Georgian era and Victorian era (but you know, every gal of a certain age had their brain chemistry altered by the 1995 Pride and Prejudice as Greta Gerwig knows well) so I wanted to talk very, very briefly about some of my absolute favourites (and whether the adaptation or the book has my heart)
Poldark. The books and the 1975 version, not the modern version (I liked the Elizabeth, wasn't a fan of the rest.) Poldark man. It's the ONE. Incredibly romantic, but with a real political agenda too around landowners rights and the changing role of the gentry. The books were hugely formative for me - and there's LOADS, so get them from your local library and enjoy.
The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling. The book, and the delightful 1997 BBC adaptation. I love this book. It's one of those early novels where the narrator just fucking talks about whatever they want. And because it's set in the earlier Georgian era where people did whatever they wanted, it's super sexy. Tom is basically fucking his way through the West Country and London.
Vanity Fair. The book, I've not liked any of the adaptations I've seen. Becky Sharp, beloved. The first real antihero I read. I love her to the ends of the earth. All adaptations try and soften her too much for my liking but the 1998 and 2018 both have good strengths.
The House of Mirth. The book and the 2000's film. Just sublime.
Anna Karenina. One of my favourite books. Western adaptations of Russian novels never quite hit the mark but I have to give a shout out to the 2000 version with Helen McCrory because she really sold the sexual obsession to me in a way others didn't. Man, she was the GOAT.
North and South. The book is great. The adaptation really is superb. Probably the best on the list, one that I would rank just as highly as the novel.
Wives and Daughters. The book was unfinished so they filled in a lot of gaps in the 1999 adaptation starring Justine Waddell (who incidentally was in EVERYTHING for a while? Like every period drama cast her, it was bizarre, and then she just disappeared. This also stars Keeley Hawes who was also in everything, including the very underrated Our Mutual Friend.) I know this one isn't the best, but I'm very fond of it.
Middlemarch. Listen, the book is the greatest book of all time to me. You have to read it at least once. The 1994 adaptation does a great job but it will never be the book, whose strands come together so perfectly, which teaches us so much about the intricate webs of being human.
The Crimson Petal and the White. The book is extraordinary, and the 2011 adaptation tries its best but suffers a bit from some odd casting. Still it's very worth the watch.
I Claudius. Curveball lmao. But it's perfect. Utterly perfect. The cultural impact of the 1976 adaptation can't be understated. A masterpiece.

okay so i'm not british (i'm just a teenage girl hungry for knowledge 😔✊) but i watched one video and as a result i've been consuming an insane amount of new labour media for the past week even though i've never been interested in uk politics besides keeping up with global news LMAO i genuinely wanna know more so where do you think i should start with books films etc 😭
hiii!! excellent question id be more than happy to help! this will be sort of an overview with general recs for newlab beginners (why am I treating this like its a profession omg) so just lmk if you want more specific recs + I've highlighted my favs
books (from the outside)
(by from the outside I mean written by people not directly involved in newlab, so historians/journalists etc)
the two classic newlab texts are servants of the people and the end of the party, both by andrew rawnsley from the observer. provide nice, extensive but not overly fussy histories of newlab from opposition to 2010. good balance of gossip and actual information!
my personal favourite is rivals by james naughtie (bbc reporter), I find the prose in it far more compelling than any other book on this list.
brown's britain (robert peston) is also very good!
you've mentioned that you're not from the UK, so I really really really would recommend reading a book/a few articles on the broader history of the British Labour Party, just so you can understand why newlab was so revolutionary. I quite like keeping the red flag flying
autobiographies/diaries/books from ppl directly involved:
(these will inevitably be more biased)
the new machiavelli by jonathan powell is my absolute favourite self-written newlab book - and you might learn some stuff ant machiavelli whilst ur at it so this is an essential imo
my life our times by gordon brown is another one I really enjoyed, although it's less gossipy than some of the other books on this list. admittedly I do agree with basically everything gordon brown has ever said so this is a very biased review, but I would give it a go!
obviously alastair campbell wrote a load of diaries. I would be careful with which volumes you choose to get - go for the ones published 2010 and onwards bc he made the choice to omit stuff from the first few volumes he published so that it wouldn't' hurt gordon's premiership. also, they're really long and really extensive, so pick which volumes you want to read based on which specific period of newlab you find yourself drawn to!
as a comms/polling fan (boo) I really liked unfinished revolution by philip gould, but this might not be the best book to start with.
damian mcbride's power trip (more diaries) is also interesting
big fan of point of departure by robin cook asw!
I found tony's books excruciating to read but that's bc im crazy and think I know the inside of his mind like its my own so they might be good for you. his new book is FASCINATING but only in the sense of it exposing how big his messiah complex is. don't read any of his books if you're not down to hear about sex and/or technology.
oh a note: mandelson has written books but I don't like him so im not going to recommend them <3
tv/film
tony and gordon aren't really all that into big heartfelt chats about newlab, esp not together, but a few good docs have been made
blair and brown: the new labour revolution (bbc, 2021) - this is a classic, it's where I got my newlab start as a tender sixteen year old politics student u can't beat it! watch this one first
the blair years (bbc 2007)
out of the shadows and we are the treasury (here and here)
blair's thousand days (1 2)
if you're into tbgb, please please please watch the deal. I don't like much of the michael sheen as blair content, but the deal (2003) is so good.
if you want me to rec bits of tv from the newlab years that I think r cool and worth watching then send another ask and ill tell u! but obv theyre not much use if you're just getting into newlab :)
alastair did interviews with tony and ed miliband 6/7 years ago. not all about newlab, but very interesting to watch and observe the dynamics!
podcasts
matt forde of the political party has done interviews with a lot of newlab figures, from tony all the way to the more junior spads. I especially like the joint one he did with ed balls and alastair campbell, and the first tony one. these r less good for actually learning facts about newlab but really like listening to them as a way to sort of get into these ppls heads and observe them in a more casual setting. also a gordon interview asw !
if you can bear listening to george osborne talk (I can but others r more sensible) then political currency is also a good place to get lil tidbits of newlab gossip, bc ed balls is one of the hosts and he's super messy he loves chatting abt gordon.
ideology/boring stuff etc!
ok u can ignore this section if you want but these r some books about the ideology that underpinned newlab - I think it's fascinating!
the third way by giddens (literally the newlab bible and I think the only theory that blair took seriously)
crosland’s the future of socialism!! influenced gb and caused so much internal labour drama so evidently its excellent
if you want a really interesting essay on Iraq I recommend this
podcast on centrism that touches a lot on clinton/newlab/blair etc
oh and just for fun!!!!! here's a playlist of all the songs written canonically actually irl about tony blair.
lmk if you want any other recs!!!!!

Hey! Idk if this still interests you or not but I saw your post saying Richtofen isn’t a n@zi
I also believe this and have done a lot of research but I think I have trouble with finding sources as I haven’t been able to find anything that shows that he is against fascism + hates it, which makes it difficult to argue that he isn’t one when talking to others about it.
Do you have proof or some sort of instance that either states or hints towards this that could help with the argument that he is against n@zis?
I’d appreciate any info you give!
Hello anon! Oh wow It has been a hot second since I've Codsed my Zombies. I'm not sure how much you know already. So I'll just go down the list of things I remeber! And i'll make this a bit beginner freindly, just in case anyone needs to show this to someone.
Also feel free to add to it!!! Or feel free to point out if I misspoke it HAS been a bit...
1) For starters, although the lore reason for Richtofen's outfit is unknown (most anything i could say here would be pure speculation and HC), we do know that he was originally just a re-used asset from the main game. He comes from the villian character Heinrich Amsel. When COD Zombies (previously Nazi Zombies) first started out, all the characters were blank slate re-used and slightly recolored assets. They ofc later gave them all names and stories (although testing the waters at first, a lot of early story got ret-conned. Such as Richtofen being a back ally surgeon.) But they unfortunately never re-designed him outside of removing the swastika :( but I also belive it's important beacuse I feel like it's one of the only things ppl bring up when the try and say Richtofen is a nazi, and I feel like it holds no weight beacuse of these things.
(Here is Heinrich Amsel. As u can see, clearly where Richtofen's original model comes from.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2) lore stuff is dificult to pile evidance for due to how the lore in the game itself is presented. If you want the freshest and best sources (aside from meticulously beating every easter egg and finding all the secrets) YouTube videos with the quotes/Easter eggs/secrets are your best bet aside from going in game and grabbing them yourself. I can't particularly remeber what exsact maps may be able to help you. Aside from Classified!
It's just generally a real important part of the basic lore that Richtofen isn't a Nazi and hates them. It's kinda what kicks off....everything that happend. Im sure anyone could get this information from any reliable Cod Zombies lore video (i uhhh don't know which ones are reliable i haven't watched any! Probably check out Mr.RoflWaffles?). For starters, Richtofen was always a spy. He worked for the Illuminati before Maxis asked him to join Group 935, and Richtofen only joined so he could feed information back to the Illuminati. It's also important to note that Group 935 was not originally associated with Nazis. Maxis made a deal with the nazis without anyone's permission (funding and test subjects in exchange for weapons and super soldiers.) And that was one of many things that pissed Richtofen off so badly that he gathered everyone up to make a secret section of Group 935, that both worked with the allies, and planned on killing off Maxis. (Ofc his goal was later shifted and corupted by the Apothicons. But this is about how Richtofen isn't a Nazi, not questioning him as a dubious person. There was also all of the moon shit, Maxis not caring about Richtofen's experiments, a whole boat load of resons that Richtofen wanted that man dead.)
(Also. Richtofen never fought in ww2 and ww2 is already over by the time the zombie breakout happens.)
Here is a link to the Film Reels in Classified, many of which talk about how Richtofen was working against Maxis (and the nazis) and even has some verbal confirmation from Richtofen about his distaste for nazis.
youtube
Also here is also the Kronorium! As far as I know, it should still be a reliable sorce! (Like i said, it's been a while). And I think it's a bit better than the wiki (which still says his nationality is nazi german...instead of just saying he's german....) there is plenty of stuff in the interactive book that explains
https://kronorium.com/
2) here are some instances of his voice actor, Nolan North, confirming that he isn't a Nazi! (Thank you @jamieaiken919 for digging these up for me!!!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And did that's kinda all I have for now! Like I said anyone is free to add!

outside of hbowar??? oooh i have LOADS of things!! the thick of it!! it has such clever funny writing, the best dialogue and political satire ever, because it's just so true to life and accurate for uk politics. peter capaldi is fucking amazing in it! and you'll see a lot of uk actors that are famous for other things here. but yeah, it's just hilarious and witty and clever. love it. go watch it. ummm other than that, the korean band onewe!! please go listen to them, they are ridiculously talented and have the kindest most lovely and accepting fandom in the world. in fact, the hbo war fandom and onewe fandom are the only two fandoms i've ever felt happy and comfortable in. onewe write beautiful songs with the most gorgeous lyrics (they have a space series which is one of my all-time favourites). ALSO pride (2014) as a movie recommendation! this film is my comfort film but it tears me apart as well. some people watch it for the queerness and come away learning about welsh history too.. for others, it's the opposite. but as a welsh gay man for me both those elements are so important to who i am and my own identity, that this film is just feels so incredibly special to me. especially the character gethin who i really feel i can relate to a lot due to our circumstances. tim roth is someone who i always wanna shout about and who lives rent free in my head too. love that man so much. also the band the libertines!! because them and the strokes were my entire teenage years and i pretty much grew up with their music as my 'soundtrack'. ok i think that's enough, even though i definitely have way more to shout about. sorry i rambled!
for this ask game!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!! 🎄☃️❄️💓✨
You don't usually get so excited when it's the holidays
But, you do enjoy, seeing everyone and having your stomach full from all of the feast
You're just not in the mood to interact since your social battery? can drain easily, you can't keep up that long, sometimes
Sure, you do have friends around that is genuinely do care for you and always be there for you
You're really just not an energetic person
That is until..... He came
You became friends with Nancy at the University and still- you're being in denial that you found yourself a friend
Nancy invited you over to Hawkins to spend your Christmas with them- you're very hesitant at first but you give it a try
The fact you thought you'll messed it all up because you're so nervous to meet her friends and family for the first time
It's your second time here and you just really don't understand why you feel looking forward about this, again
It's a new feeling and it's so foreign
You're leaning standing on the side of the room while watching the snowflakes fall outside
The kids are bickering each other over something and a year later you're still amused observing them
"What do you suggest that we should do?" Dustin sighs in exasperation as he holds his list of Christmas activities on his hand
He taps his pen below his chin as he couldn't taken a hold of his impatience towards his friend
He groans in frustration "Make up your mind!-"
"We should do a movie marathon- we haven't done that yet!" Max spoke up before she could hear Dustin's banter
"That's- impossible- our schedule is clearly tight! No one can attend since all of us are not available!"
"All of us?!? You haven't asked anyone yet!"
"You don't believe me?!? I'm not wrong about this, Max" Dustin throw his hands up in surrender
Max nods as she raises her eyebrows and crossing both of her arms at the same time as she jerks her head towards everyone else in the room gesturing to ask about the plan
Dustin shakes his head at her as he goes out to ask anyone
To his surprise, she's right
Max smirks at him when you're the only one left
"My god- your plan still sucks, Max" he mumbles to himself, he winces when realized he said it in his outside voice
"Could you think for a better activity?" Max replies in a sassiest way as she watches him walking towards you
"Your films choices are awful" Dustin said without looking back at her but she can see the disgust look from his face
"Hey, Top Gun is not awful!" Max shouted as she rolls his eyes at him
"Hi"
You look back at the kid in front of you, nervously clasps his hands together
"What up?" You manage to form a small smile as you bring your body forward to face him properly
He raises his eyebrows, of course- he knows that you're not into small talk but to all of young kids in the group?
You're still cool to them
Why? You seriously have no idea why someone like you and even use you as a role model
Maybe, they love you because you're very authentic and real
Yes, you being the silent one but also you're the most protective and strongest person of them all
They admire everything about you and you never ever understood it why
All you can say is that you're just so very grateful to have them in your life
So grateful
"Uh, are you game for a movie marathon with us? everyone is invited"
You nod and think about it for a moment until you can finally muster to say something back
"When?"
"This coming Saturday"
You nod again and there's your same old dialog
"Is he coming tho?"
"Who?"
"Eddie"
"Y-Yeah- I haven't asked him about it yet since he's not here and I'm sure, he'll be there"
"I'll go, why not- I'm not doing anything on that day, so...." you shrug smile at him
"Great!" The boy shows his pearls and the grin grows even more wide when he looked at over your shoulder
And the man in question is coming in to put his arms around you before you can even follow the kid's gaze- you melt within his touch
"What's happening?" He asks as he turns his head at you and Dustin
"Movie Marathon, this Saturday" you fill him in
"Ooh" he beams in interest "I am so in!"
Dustin hops lightly on the floor as he gives both of you a thumbs up as he goes back to Max who smiles so smugly at him now
"What are you doing by the window?"
You scratch your head "Watching the snow? I'm just bored- I guess" you slumped your shoulders
"Aww- just say it that you missed me" he pulls you by his side and you roll your eyes playfully
You know what he's doing, he wants you to laugh and he never fails by attempting to do so
But in fact- you really do miss him
Just too afraid to admit your feelings too vulnerable
Eddie continues to tease as you finally tug up a smile at him
"Ah yes finally there's my girl!"
You giggle as you poke his side by using your elbow as he laughs as well
"Look what I found at the store"
He surprises you by a gift, it's a small cute white teddy bear with red bow on the neck and your eyes flashes in astonishment
"Eddie- you did not-" you hold the teddy bear as he can see the joy glint on your eyes
Your gaze softens at him "Thank you"
"Don't mention it, sweets" he says as leans down to kiss on top of your head
"I am happy to see you happy" he adds and that makes your heart swell even more
You're absolutely not falling for him, are you?
"I'll be back for dinner, Nance" you announced as you check yourself in the mirror
"Going out with Eddie, again?"
"Yeah, why?" You asked her in the reflection
A mischief on her eyes, you can't miss it
She leans on her side on the wall as she watches you adding a lip and cheek tint
"Nothing, it's just that you look cute together"
You slowly turn to look at her with a look that says "Seriously?"
"I'm serious! I mean- ever since I bought you here- you two- just I don't even know how it happened- you both clicked!" She exclaims as she scoffed at you while shaking your head as you dismissive a hand at her
"And ever since then- it's obvious to everyone that if someone else sees you both- you both looked like in a relationship" she added as she waits for your reaction
"I'm sure that his only true intentions are being with friends with me, nothing more than that" you say as you put your makeup back in your shoulder bag
"Keep telling that to yourself and just watch it become real right before your very eyes" she argues with you as she takes a deep breath before continuing
"For example- you said in the first place that I ain't gonna be your bestfriend and look what happened"
She has a damn point
Seeing her smiling to herself at the back of your head knowing fucking damn well that she is indeed right to her guts
You roll your eyes at her as you open the door
"Bye, Nance" you bid goodbye with a snarky tone
She only chuckles at your ignorance as she waves at you
Eddie is always have been so caring for you
He did all of this for you
When he can do something else or choose someone else to hang out with
Instead, he always chose to be with you
Why is that?
In your friendship, Eddie is the loudest and talkative and he really doesn't mind if you don't talk a lot like him and he just admires you for being a good listener
You don't even know of how a good friend you are like you just need to know that you are
You made him realized a lot of things that he did last year when he could cut off some people
When he should've done it ages ago
You're the one that pushed him to do it and to not be scared to do it for his own well-being
You're there when he's having a hard time to move on- you even comforted him that is okay to feel this way and it's completely normal
You're an amazing person in his eyes
You made him feel that he's worthy and lovable and his mission is to make you feel that way too
You listen to him with a smile on your face, you can't fight it off everytime you spend time with him
His always animated when it comes to storytelling and it's really entertaining to watch him gush over the things that you could relate to
You're taking a big step because you're obviously not being honest with your feelings so....
"Eddie- wait a second" you interrupt him at his mid-sentence
He stops as he clears his throat, he immediately rests his hand on top of yours as you look down smiling at it
"I'm sorry, I just wanted to ask"
"Sure, go ahead"
You look through his eyes and by that you knew, you knew you could say anything to him without judgement behind it
"Why are you doing this?"
"Doing what?"
"Being so nice to me, I mean- sometimes I get confused like I don't know if it's just your personality for being this sweet or you do this with anyone"
"I like you" he says plainly with a cheeky smile that shows his dimples
You flustered at his reply "W-What?"
"I just like you- don't get me wrong- I love all of my buddies out there but whenever I'm with you- I feel complete"
"But I'm not that outgoing person"
"What do you mean?"
"What I'm saying is that don't you get tired of me? Or like get bored hanging out with me?"
"Why would I think something like that? Do you think I thought about something like that?"
You blink and your duck your head down shyly as you shook your head
You curse your negative thoughts inside your head literally ruining the beautiful moment that you're having right now
You tried your best not to think of them too long, wishing for all of it to just go away
"Listen" he leans forward to hold both of your hands
You raise your head slowly, too nervous to see the anger in his eyes but you saw nothing
Just pure understanding and compassion
Your heart skips a beat at the sight of it
"I like you for being who you are and I even more love it when we both have the same qualities like you don't give a fuck about anyone else" he exaggerates his words that you always liked and that earns a small chuckle from you and he smiles at it
"You helped me and I'll be doing the same thing with you like you have no idea- how much you mean to me and I just wanna say thank you for everything" he says with so much love on his words like you can't trace anything that is half-hearted
Every part and every word he said comes straight from his heart
He just cannot do that to you and say something like that
The feeling is really feeling, you're knocking off every tendency not to kiss him on the spot
"But I feel so bad for you like I think I'm extra hella mean to you at the first meeting"
Yeah, you're right, he knows that- hell- he even remembers everything on your first encounter together
You always have your guard up and despite your feisty and always looked so intimidating
That didn't made Eddie stop for being friends with you, like he's even the one who approached you, he is willing to do anything and so eager to be in your life
You don't stopped him
You didn't even try to push him away
You don't threaten him to go away
It's because you liked his company
You liked how he is so patient with you
You thought giving him the lousy replies and statements will make him leave but he didn't
He stayed
He is so glad that he did because he gotten the first belly genuine laughs, the first excitement from your eyes, the first cute and adorable reactions at you
As if he can read your mind "Does that stop me from being your friend?"
"No"
"Exactly"
You chuckled slightly "I just don't understand why out of all the people you chose to be friends with me"
"You don't believe that you can have a cool metalhead bestfriend like me?" He says cockily with a lazy smile on his face that made you throw fries at him
He blocked it as he blows raspberry at you "Aha! You missed!"
You chuckled as you pinch his cheeks "Gotta go at the restroom but I'm not done with you yet" you point at him
As he pretends to be petrified at you "Ooh- look at me! I'm getting killed!"
You laugh as you shake your head at him
You check yourself once more at the mirror
You swore to yourself that you're gonna tell him this time around
You gotta admit it
You inhale and exhale as you walk out of the restroom
The smile on your face falls as it lands on the girl that he's talking to
He looks.... glad?
Oh- so this is what it feels to be jealous
You feel nauseous on the scene that happening right now
The girl who is talking to him is so
You saw Eddie dismissing his hand at her as if telling her to keep the conversation short but the girl just won't let it drop as she continues to babble
You know Eddie, he is just too polite to just say "fucking shut up and leave me alone"
You feel so annoyed and also angry at the same time
You reached over at the hem of your purple dress as you crunch it down not caring if it makes a crinkle out of the fabric
You missed the fact that Eddie is now brand new upcoming artist and this is the only beginning of his career
You huffed when she finally leaves
Eddie lights up that you came back on your seat across from him but only to find the hot raging fire that is on your eyes
He doesn't even know where it is coming from
He has never seen you this angry
If you try to look at him, he swear that your looks could kill any person in the room right now
You look intimidating in your usual resting face but with a mad emotion forming up?
This is the only time that he really felt intimidated
"Is everything okay?" Trying to look at your fiery eyes, he is confused, of course- he keeps rethinking everything that made you mad
"Yeah, I'm good" you say unenthusiastically as you finish your milkshake
By the tone of your voice, suddenly the room felt too hard to breathe because you still haven't looked at him just yet because he knows you're avoiding it
He swallows as he chews quietly on his burger
The ride home was like a screeching metal sound that is begging to be stopped
It's so ridiculously quiet
You're giving him the silent treatment?
He is appalled, appalled in a way that this is how you really get upset
He's gonna remember this, so he it won't happen again
Hopefully, never again
And that was it- that was the night
You didn't say goodbye or didn't say anything after that
When Nancy saw you with the look- she knows that you needed to be alone
"What's with her?"
"Huh?"
Lucas nudges his chin towards you as he waits for Mike reply
Your usual resting face looks even more colder than before
You sitting alone in a couch, arms crossed, as you pretend to watch on whatever the TV is playing
Mike glances at you and he felt a dagger stabs through his heart when he saw your face
"Maybe, it has something to do with-"
"Eddie"
Lucas and Mike looked back at each other with raised eyebrows as they run out and look for their dungeon master
The boys knew, of course- how much he feels for you, so, they're gonna help cause' that's what real friends do
"You have to fix it" Lucas blurted it out
"What?"
Eddie is talking to Jeff and Gareth, when the two young boys interrupt their conversation
"You have to make amends with her!" Mike points at you
Eddie follows the kid's direction as he blinks rapidly and gulped
"Nah- Uh- I can't"
"Why?"
"Because- fuck- you know how she's like when she's like that?!?"
"But you have to-"
"Don't worry about it, fellas- he's already concocting a solution" Gareth speaks as he throws a wink
"He's actually talking about her with us" Jeff snickers as he watches Eddie stresses
Eddie only grumbles in response when his bandmates exposed the conversation earlier
"The look on your face is not appealing for this time of the year"
The familiar voice behind you spoke as you throw your head back at the soft surface
"Hey" you say with literally 0% energy
Robin sits beside you as she takes a good look at you
"My, My, My, I can see it- jealousy, clear as day" she gestures at your face as you scoff
She only smirks "What's going on inside your mind, huh?"
"I just saw him talking to another girl yesterday" you sneered as you clenched your jaw
She clicks her tongue as she brings herself closer to you
You furrow your brows as you watch her lean forward
The scariest thing with Robin is that she can read your fucking mind
"If you're thinking about Eddie hanging out with other girls" she clears her throat and straighten herself up
As if she prepares for an ultimate speech
"Well, for your information, sweet pea- is that he never does that to anyone, he only does that to you!" She punctuates every word she said with a finger pointing at you
Still, you won't let her see your surprised expression, you try to mask it
You tilt your head at her as you laugh in disbelief
"Please be fucking for real, Robin?"
She chuckles at your stubbornness "Girl- If you're weren't present right now, he won't attend and he won't be here if it wasn't for you"
You went silent on that because Robin is making sense
A lot of sense
"Eddie is never the one to show up in these events but when you came around- he's always here"
Robin added a lot more sizzle on the stove that made the fire inside of you grows larger
You remember that
It was so late that night but Eddie came last minute because Nancy mentioned about you staying and spending the holidays with them
You're aware that she always talks about you
That's why he's so excited to meet you in the first place
Robin smiles like a freaking Cheshire cat when she successfully made your brain go right where it belongs
Your eyes might hurt for eyerolling too much as you get up and headed towards to-
Obviously, Eddie
Robin giggles as she says "Glad to be a part of your service!"
You saw Eddie yelling over to his friends and bandmates as they stopped talking when they saw you
He knits his brows as they watch all of them go running away one by one
When he turns around, he sighs nervously
"I just wanna apolog-"
"I'm sorry"
Both of you talked over to each other as you both stare and he wants to laugh at how ridiculous this is
"I appreciate everything, you've done for me- Eddie- and I apologize for my behavior last night"
"No- it's okay-" he stopped at what he's supposed to do when
His idiotic mind finally catches up at the thing that annoyed you last night
"Oh- is that girl!"
You frown at him "Look- you don't have to bring it up-'" you sigh in defeat
"You know what- this is bullshit- I'm outta here" you walk away but he tails at you
"You can't"
"Why?!?"
"it's blizzard out there!"
You glance the window outside, it's a damn snowstorm- alright
"I'm gonna find my way out of here"
"What?! why do you want to do that?!"
"To stay the hell away at you"
He laughs darkly as he jogs over your path to block you- you crossed both of your arms
"That girl yesterday was one of the bullies that made my life, the hardest, I didn't gave her the satisfaction that just because I'm getting better at my career, I won't forget the things she do to me before"
The crease in your forehead flattens as you look at him directly
"So, you don't have to be jealous over something that isn't necessary" he finishes with that
Oh, he is speaking the truth and that makes even feel more worst than ever
Not a single fucking thing that says "dishonest" on his eyes
HE IS THE IDEAL MAN
"Guess what? Eddie- that won't convince me!" You sarcastically replied with a fake smile as you move over aside to walk out of him
He knows this wouldn't be easy, he smiles down and he's amused at this
He shook his head as he spoke again
"You missed my hint"
You halt your tracks as you look back at him
"Missed what?!?" annoyance setting in your tone
He walks towards at you with a smirk laying on his face
"I gave you a hint yesterday and you missed it"
You squint your eyes at him as you try to remember the things that he said to you
Oh
The simmering anger inside of you that almost bubbled into the boiling point has died down when it finally hit you
"I like you" his voice echoes to your mind
When you look back at him, he smiles wildly as he moves closer to you
He puts your wispy bangs on the side as he can see it hurting your eyes
Your gaze softens as he whispers "You're so pretty"
And out of the blue, there goes his antics, he goes down on his knees
"I would seriously die for you!" He shouts out loud earning an attention to some of your friends
You laugh as you try to help him get up but he won't budge
"I will worship you every single day until I die!"
Steve appears in the corner as he announces
"The Grinch is about to start y'all gonna miss it!"
You and Eddie giggle as he finally back up to his feet
Both of you get what you want to chomp down while watching the film
He gave you, your favorite, the buttered popcorn
You blushed as you about to take it he pulled you as he kisses your cheek that alone made you let out a small gasp and he smirks
Causing you to flip him off as he laughs
While heading at the living room both of you started teasing at each other
"if you left you won't be getting that popcorn"
"Yeah, yeah, you won- stop gloating already"
"You love me, don't you?"
"Shut up"
"You love meeee"
"I do"
He's like a goddamn kid, hopping like a toddler as he pulls you to his side, you look at him with a glowing smile
Unbeknownst to the both of you, Jeff, Gareth, Mike, Lucas, Dustin, Robin and even Steve both shared high-fives together when both of you finally get together at last

Note
8, 17, 21 & 22 for the iwtv ask thingy! 🤍
8. Who's your favorite actor?
jacob anderson. come on now. they're all great but he is ethereal. second place assad zaman
17. Have you read or watched anything because it was referenced in the show?
oh just a few things
love's coming of age by edward carpenter
chéri by colette
nausea by jean-paul sartre (louis was reading this in ep6 when lestat and claudia are playing chess while talking about nicki. you can't see the full cover but i went detective mode and figured it out)
madame bovary by gustave flaubert
a moveable feast by ernest hemingway (s2 first look "esurient hearts beating as one, the rumbling beast of the moveable feast")
iolanta (tchaikovsky opera)
don pasquale (donizetti opera)
pelléas et mélisande (debussy opera)
a doll's house (henrik ibsen play)
a streetcar named desire (tennessee williams play) + the movie with marlon brando
i didnt read the full text but i did hunt down and read parts of "de masticatione mortuorum, the chewing dead" that claudia mentions, full title "dissertatio historico-philosophica de masticatione mortuorum" by philip rohr (1679) (view the original manuscript here + english translation here)
i havent finished all of emily dickinson's poems yet but im getting there! (some of these i had read before ofc but im reading them all in order now)
ive also previously watched nosferatu (and rewatched it for iwtv) and the trimph of the will (NOT rewatching 💀 that was for a film history class) and ive read dante's inferno which louis mentions ("if i was to join dante's wood of the self-murdered...") and i highly recommend it!!! absolute fav
there's also stuff that wasn't directly referenced in the show but the fandom has drawn parallels to, that i've read and watched for that reason.
anne carson's an oresteia (to better understand all the agamemnon iphigenia clytemnestra electra comparisons people make)
giovanni's room by james baldwin
rebecca (1940 film)
theres def more movies but i cant remember lol
and theres some nonfiction books i've yet to finish bc im slow at nonfiction
the vampire: a casebook by alan dundes (cited by writers as s2 inspo! about irl vampire folklore)
black new orleans 1860-1880 by john w. blassingame for historical context
the theatre of fear and horror by mel gordon, on the grand guignol aka the inspiration for theatre des vampires (i did finish this one except for the summaries of all the plays, i decided to skip that there's so many. very engaging read and gives a lot of insight into the some of the bts stuff we've seen about the theatre)
louis's favorite movies from the tale of the the body thief!
la belle et la bête (1946)
the company of wolves (1984)
the dead (1987)
i may be forgetting some stuff. there's also so much more on my list that i mean to get to. a prayer for owen meany by john irving, of "memory is a monster" quote fame is locked and loaded for example
if anyone's interested to hear my thoughts on any of these feel free to ask i would love to talk about it!!!
all this and i've still only read the first 6 of the actual vampire chronicles. and im still procrastinating starting merrick
21. What was your favorite monologue of season one?
HMM the obvious one is louis's confession. ive watched the whole sequence from the funeral to the end of the episode a truly unhealthy number of times. also claudia's coffin monologue
22. Who's your favorite character? Why?
LOUIS. probably because i relate to him so much. instant connection. tricked into loving myself. also like hes literally louis how could i not love him do i need to even explain this
when i started reading the books i didnt care for book louis that much lol but i did become an armand stan. possibly bc i also relate to him im selfish like that i guess. also just his whole backstory and the way it informs everything he does is so fascinating to me. ppl say hes incomprehensible and hes literally not. everything he does makes sense when you consider his life experiences
iwtv ask game

Rant
... like MASSIVE because I need to get that out here too, otherwise i might just blow a fuse or something!!!
I've watched most of DT's work more or less whenever new things come out; some things I skip or mark down for later, some I watch right away (usually depends on the amount of screentime he has).
So naturally I started Inside Man when it came out. That was almost a year ago. I never managed to finish the second episode. Today I FORCED myself through the rest just to have watched it. (Plus, I love a grumpy bearded DT!)
And now I am pissed. I'm actually MAD at Moffat for making me watch this!!!
I have NEVER IN MY LIFE seen such utter BULLSHIT and such absolutely INSANE STUPIDITY in a show!!! I mean, I know he's not best loved for all sorts of reasons, and up until now I was like whatevs - I like(d) his stuff, I love Sherlock (yes, even the last season, sue me!), that show gave me some of the most wonderful friends so how can I be mad at him; I could watch most of his stuff without any issues. Nobody's perfect.
But this?!?!? GOOD LORD MAN WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU SMOKING?!?! The whole fucking premise was CRAZY!!! It made absolutely no sense at all - and it only got worse from there. What did my friend say: it's a car crash on top of a train wreck!!!
I've watched LOTS OF bad tv/films for favs, endured hours of shitty stuff to get a glimpse at the people I like.
But I have NEVER seen anything like this. It wasn't just bad, it was an insult to the actors!!! I have NO idea why DT (and Tucci and Lydia, who I adore!) did this. They must've read the script beforehand and noticed how utterly TERRIBLE that show was!!!!
I mean... the whole setup was just as wrong as WRONG can be!!! NO SANE PERSON would act like that - hell, even the silliest FANFIC blorbo wouldn't do shit like that!!!
I'm still in shock that anyone would read, let alone produce and film this!!!! Up until now there hasn't been ONE bad thing in DT's work catalogue - even his early stuff was good, because HE is good! But even his acting was utterly underwhelming! (well, can't make gold out of shit, not even my beloved Scot can do THAT!!!)
So yeah, from here on out Inside Man will be on my ABSOLUTELY SHITTY TV list for the rest of time and NOTHING will ever change that!!!!
So yeah, if you consider to watch it, just fucking DON'T!!! It'll ruin your day, you'll lose four hours you'll never get back and if you're like me, your respect for DT will at least wobble a bit (I only allow this because I know that he's a fan of his work and there's LOADS of other, wonderful work that can balance out the absolutely rubbish I've watched today! My 2024 in Film: June
Happy Pride Month watch list, everyone!
They're not all pride movies, obviously, but some of them sure are!
I've gotten so far behind in my listing duties. I'm sorry!
I was briefly toying with the idea of creating a little sideblog for these so as to make them a little easier to peruse, but that's also so much work. Maybe an idea for next year.
Anyways, let's talk about some movies!
* = rewatched
121.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
(2024)
Tumblr media
— Action Adventure Prequel Directed by: George Miller
In a post-apocalyptic Australia a young girl is taken from her family by a power hungry warlord. In order to find a way back home she's going to have to become strong enough to beat the best players in this game of blood and gasoline.
As I mentioned earlier in the year: I love Mad Max: Fury Road.
In this world of constant reboots and remakes and sequels, I couldn't help but be worried that this would be nothing more than an attempt to cash in further on the success of the previous movie.
And yet Fury Road is so good that I had to give Miller the benefit of the doubt and went to see this in the theater and trust he'd bring the heat again.
Personally, I found the whole thing to be a bit dull and lacking a thematic direction.
Usually I like Anna Taylor-Joy, but here? There is just not a world where I can believe that Taylor-Joy grows up to be Charlize Theron.
I dunno. Maybe I was just missing what it was laying down. I'll have to give it another watch in a couple years and see.
122.
Boys Don't Cry
(1999)
Tumblr media
— Drama Directed by: Kimberly Peirce
A young trans man in rural Nebraska desperately tries to run from his past and start a new life.
This is neither here nor there, but this is just a wildly bad movie to watch right before you go to bed. Don't make the same mistake I did.
I also somehow got this title confused with Girl, Interrupted (1999) and thus wound up going into this one completely blind.
In any case, this is one of those movies where I don't think I have anything to add to the conversation about it. The fact that it's based on a true story, the fact that it's about a trans man but has no trans people involved, the fact that it was the late 90s and these types of stories weren't being told at all...
It is certainly a film that deserves a conversation, but that's a conversation for people who are not me.
123.
Rope
(1948)
Tumblr media
— Crime Thriller Directed by: Alfred Hitchcock
A gay couple decides to try to prove their smarts by committing the perfect crime and then hosting a dinner party at the scene just to prove they can.
Funnily enough when I asked some of my queer friends for some recommendations of things to watch this month, three different people said Rope.
Clearly I had to see what this was about.
Traditionally I shy away from Hitchcock movies because they are notorious for having some strange element to them that I can't stop focusing on and it drives me mad.
In this one it was the fact that these guys hosted a nice little dinner party for their friends and their friends all suck and go to any lengths to spoil the whole thing.
I get that the hosts were unhinged murderers, but still! The guests don't know that!
Plus friggin' Jimmy Stewart shows up! Y'all know I hate Jimmy Stewart. And yet I keep watching old movies without looking up the details about them, so I keep winding up watching movies with him in them.
That being said it's an interesting film. The whole thing is filmed to look like it was done in a single take, Hitchcock often makes use of really clever shot compositions, and the production history of the movie is wild.
124.
Tangerine
(2015)
Tumblr media
— Drama Directed by: Sean Baker
A trans prostitute who just got out of jail goes on a mission across L.A. to find her cheating boyfriend and get to the bottom of what he's been getting up to while she's been away.
I like elements of this one, but there's a lot of directorial/story choices that I don't fully understand. The lead actresses are loads of fun though.
125.
The Watermelon Woman
(1996)
Tumblr media
— Comedy Drama Directed by: Cheryl Dunye
A lesbian filmmaker decides to start on a project to make a documentary about her investigation into the life and career of an obscure black actress.
Cheryl Dunye wrote, directed, and starred in this film and she brings a really great energy to every one of those roles.
It's definitely a movie made for the lesbian community and for women of color, and since I am neither of those things, I cannot really say how well it achieves its goals.
All I can say is that I did enjoy it in spite of the fact that I was surely missing a lot of subtext.
126.
Prom Dates
(2024)
Tumblr media
— Coming-of-Age Comedy Adventure Directed by: Kim O. Nguyen
After breaking up with their boyfriends, two best friends, and seniors in high school, have one night to try and find new prom dates so they can live out their dreams of a perfect prom.
If ever there was a movie that wanted to make a variant of Booksmart (2019), this is it.
(Booksmart is definitely the superior movie though.)
I really liked Julia Lester and Kenny Ridwan. Their scenes were by far the best. Antonia Gentry does a fine job too, but her character is such a terrible friend that she was driving me up the wall.
127.
Pojkarna
[English title: "Girls Lost"]
(2015)
Tumblr media
— Coming-of-Age Fantasy Drama Directed by: Alexandra-Therese Keining
Three best friends in grade school discover a strange flower that temporarily shifts them all into boy bodies. What at first proves to be a fun way to escape from the bullying and difficulties in their lives soon takes a darker turn when one of them becomes addicted to having a body that matches his self image.
Friggin' Sweden comes out swinging in my June pride watches!
Definitely my favorite movie I watched for pride this month.
It has so many levels and I've been thinking about it ever since I watched it.
It had been on my to-watch list for a while ever since I heard of it while looking for movies to add to my Experiments in Gender list. And it definitely counts!
Ugh! What a little gem of a film. Highly recommend giving it a try. It's a fantastic little queer coming-of-age fairy tale.
128.
Hedwig and the Angry Itch
(2001)
Tumblr media
— Queer Dramatic Comedy Musical Directed by: John Cameron Mitchell
A gender-queer rock diva from East-Germany tours the U.S. as she seeks justice from the ex-lover who stole her songs.
I was not expecting the songs in this to go as hard as they did. And John Cameron Mitchell's performance as Hedwig is just chalk full of charisma.
129.
(A)sexual
(2011)
Tumblr media
— Documentary Directed by: Angela Tucker
A terrible attempt at a documentary about asexuals.
Finally, a queer film this month that I am qualified to talk about!
And I hate it so much!
I truly have no clue who the intended audience was here.
It's a documentary about asexuals that seemingly felt the need to give equal time to showing ignorant allosexuals' viewpoints on asexuality?
And I would never recommend this to someone who was questioning or just looking to understand asexuality better, because it's so all over the place and it would probably confuse them more than help them.
(Not to mention that the whole thing feels painfully date like it was made in 2001 instead of 2011.)
To its credit there are some quality snippets here and there. Watching some of that old footage really makes me appreciate how far we've come as a society in regards to asexuality.
Although it was incredibly stressful to watch the clips from back then. For instance the shots from when a group of asexuals first trying to march in the pride parade? And the horrible way other queer people were treating them? It was really hard to watch.
A big part of why I didn't know I was ace until much later in my life is because of shit like this. The rare times a notion of asexuality was mentioned back then it was just presented as such a specific aro/ace/sex averse type of thing, so I figured it didn't apply to me. And thus I got to grow up thinking I was just broken and doomed.
It was only later that I read more modern ideas about what asexuality actually meant and learning that I wasn't alone meant the world to me.
So seeing something like this coming out in 2011 just really makes me irate. If I started to break down why this film bothered me so much we'd be here all day and I don't think it ever created anything worth that kind of time and energy.
So let me just say that if you happen upon this review and are looking for something to give a really nice and accessible understanding of asexuality, I personally recommend checking out the book The Invisible Orientation by Julie Sondra Decker.
130.
城市獵人
[English title: City Hunter]
(1993)
Tumblr media
— Comedy Action Adventure Directed by: Wong Jing
A private investigator finds himself on a cruise ship full of terrorists and wealthy socialites when he accepts a case to bring home the runaway daughter of a wealthy businessman.
This movie is a wild ride.
It's a Chinese adaptation of a Japanese manga and it tries really hard to maintain those comic-book elements.
I wish I had the words to describe this film properly, but it's really one of those crazy kind of things you just need to see to understand.
I feel like if you hear tell of a bizarre 90s Jackie Chan movie adaptation of a comic book, and that intrigues you? Then like me you'll probably get a kick out of it.
If that sounds really weird and not like your kind of thing? Then you are more than likely correct.
Definitely not something that's going to win you over with its plot, score, and cinematography. But it may just win you over with its Jackie Chan, over-the-top everything, and downright unusual nature.
131.
O Ornitólogo
[English title: The Ornithologist]
(2016)
Tumblr media
— Drama Adventure Directed by: João Pedro Rodrigues
A Portuguese ornithologist's field expedition goes awry and leaves him stranded. As he attempts to find his way back to civilization his trip increasingly begins to feel like a trial by ordeal.
This was another of the film's that a friend of mine mentioned when I asked for some pride month recommendations.
I'll be the first to admit that religious allegory films are not my forte. And this one's playing in Catholicism's sandbox, and I REALLY don't know much about the nitty gritty stories there.
It's an intriguing one to say the least, but I was definitely getting that distinctive feeling you get when you can tell lots of things are whooshing right over your head.
132.
Slay
(2024)
Tumblr media
— Queer Horror Comedy Directed by: Jem Garrard
Things go from bad to worse for a troupe of drag queens who find themselves under attack by vampires while performing a gig they accidentally booked in a rural town.
Happy Summerween!
Normally I try and do more stuff to celebrate the holiday, but this year it was so rainy here so I was forced to stay inside and watch some spooky movies. And I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone by getting a pride watch in there while I was at it.
This being a Tubi original I went in with extremely low expectations. But you know what? I actually had fun.
I don't think I feel the need to ever see it again, but as a mid-afternoon just-for-fun watch? It served.
133.
Godzilla
(1954)
Tumblr media
— Creature Feature Directed by: Ishirō Honda
A giant monster born of atomic radiation begins to cause massive destruction across Japan. Now scientists have a moral dilemma: risk the monster taking more lives, or risk developing and unleashing a weapon into the world that would be powerful enough to kill it?
I am not 100% sure, but I am mostly certain that I had never actually seen the original Godzilla. So for Summerween I decided to use the opportunity to cross a classic off my list.
As an American if I were to see this movie and have no context for it, I'd probably say it was a bit middle of the road. The effects are fun, the monster is great, but the whole scientist developing a weapon plot line is rather heavy handed and clunky.
But the more you know about Japanese history the more interesting this film becomes. Even if all you know is that the film is a post-WWII sci-fi response to atomic weapons, that alone really opens this film up and give you a lot of interesting things to dissect in it.
134.
The Tank
(2023)
Tumblr media
— Creature Feature Horror Directed by: Scott Walker
A cash-starved family inherits a strange sea-side house. But while trying to fix it up to sell it they learn that the house is hiding a dark secret beneath its foundations.
I figured I'd close Summerween out by trying to find something new that was actually trying to be scary.
Unfortunately for me I chose this which isn't at all scary and frankly kind of a mess.
I've mentioned this before when it comes to genre, but this definitely falls into the category of a film that was trying to make plays out of the Horror genre playbook, but at no point understood how to run them.
And the result is this rather awkward unaffecting mess.
135.
Leprechaun 3
(1995)
Tumblr media
— Horror Sequel Directed by: Brian Trenchard-Smith
The leprechaun is loose in Las Vegas! But when a young man taken in by the town's bright lights gets infected with Leprechaun blood he's gonna have to find a way to undo the curse.
Not as good as the first one, but certainly better than the second one.
It's a bit all over the place, but credit where credit is due: it knows what it's about. And what it is about is wild leprechaun situations and people getting monkey-pawed in increasingly memorable ways by their wishes.
Like all the Leprechaun movies though, it's something best watched with a friend.
136.
Leprechaun 4: In Space
(1997)
Tumblr media
— Horror Sequel Directed by: Brian Trenchard-Smith
A group of space mercenaries find themselves stuck in an awkward position when a routine operation to restore mining operations on an alien planet soon has them up against an evil magical leprechaun, a haughty alien princess, and a mad scientist.
Somehow the one where they're in space is the least wacky one of them all?
They clearly didn't have much of a budget for this one. Gone is the fun of getting to see the wild methods the leprechaun would come up with to kill the people in his way. Now he's mostly running around the spaceship stabbing people.
Lots of weird choices were made in this one, but unfortunately for us, it's not the good kind of weird.
137.
Leprechaun in the Hood
(2000)
Tumblr media
— Horror Sequel Directed by: Rob Spera
A trio of wannabe rappers accidentally release an evil leprechaun from the record producer who had been keeping him imprisoned.
I should probably mention that even at their lowest, the Leprechaun films are always saved from unwatchability by the fact that Warwick Davis running around being a menace is never not enjoyable.
But yeah, still suffering from the same problems it had when they were in space. The kills aren't nearly as fun and silly as they once were and he's often just magicing people to death.
138.
Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood
(2003)
Tumblr media
— Horror Sequel Directed by: Steven Ayromlooi
A group of friends run afoul of the leprechaun when they discover his pot of gold underneath the stalled construction site of a youth center.
Surprisingly the best one in quite a while? There's actually a semblance of a story. The kills are much more fun. The jokes are better. Nothing top tier, mind you, but still some silly fun.
139. *
Dr Jekyll & Sister Hyde
(1971)
Tumblr media
— Horror Directed by: Roy Ward Baker
Dr. Jekyll is convinced that the secret to immortality lies in female hormones. But when he tests his new serum on himself he inadvertently gives birth to the feminine side of his psyche: Sister Hyde. And having had a taste of this new life she's not willing to give it back without a fight.
It hasn't even been a full year since I first saw this movie and I've already seen it 3 times. And if I'm being honest?
I very well might watch it again this year. It's just so good!
Martine Beswick is just unforgettable in her role as Sister Hyde.
This time I watched it with commentary because I wanted to know if the filmmakers were intentionally making it that queer, or if that was just a happy accident.
It seems like they were approaching the story from more of a duality angle. Using the male/female dynamic as a new way of looking at the way the original story looks at good vs evil.
Martine Beswick, however, says that while she originally laughed at the premise the more she thought about it the more it intrigued her. Because, after all, there is no real black and white when it comes to gender and we all have traits from across the spectrum. And she wanted to explore that idea.
Another thing I thought was really interesting is that she worked really closely with her co-star Ralph Bates and they created the character together!
In so many Jekyll and Hyde movies the two actors feel like they're playing completely different characters. So I love that the two of them went at it from the angle of Jekyll and Hyde truly being two sides of the same coin, and they'd work together on their scenes even though only one of them would be on camera at any point.
That's a big part of what makes the film so fascinating: the way it really does seem to show the idea of gender at war with each other inside of this character. And the lengths a person would go to in order to get to truly be themself.
140.
She Gods of Shark Reef
(1958)
Tumblr media
— Crime Adventure Directed by: Roger Corman
Two brothers are on the run from the law when they wind up shipwrecked on a remote island inhabited by a group of women who make their money harvesting pearls.
Y'all, there's barely any sharks in this movie.
And no she gods at all!
Also the whole thing has major colonizer vibes. Just a real unfortunate time at the movies.
141. *
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
(1954)
Tumblr media
— Rom-Com Musical Directed by: Stanley Donen
A family of 7 backwoods brothers decide it's time to settle down and get married, but they are woefully ignorant about how to properly court women.
Anyone who has known me long enough will have heard me talk about this movie at some point.
And that's because I love it. I saw it as a kid and fell in love with it because it is utterly unhinged. But it's unhinged in an extremely competent way.
Amazing dance numbers, old-school tenchicolor showmanship, a plot that is too wild to ever forget, Jane Powell stealing every scene she can, it has it all!

DrPGame Time!
@npfannen
"Identifying as members of a community is powerful in supporting learning. Find and share an image of something from your favorite TV show - explain why you love this show."
⚠️WARNING!⚠️ Cringe up ahead!
Tumblr media
Doctor Who! Also known as "British People's One Piece" xD!
This is definitely one of my favorite shows of all time and has been since I was a kid. There are many reasons that I could list on and on for hours on end, but particularly there are a few that come to mind:
The weirdness. From the very beginning of the series back in 1963 and all the way up to the current/modern seasons, Doctor Who has been fascinating because of its creative, spontaneous, and overall weird nature with science fiction scenarios that are completely different from any other show you can think of. Besides the nature of the plots, characters, dimensions, and whatnot, there is also the weird style of filming with elements of technical/compositional absurdity that is just so intriguing. It was seen as a very experimental/progressive show at the time that it was created, and it certainly has maintained that reputation to this day. Extra-dimensional beings/creatures range anywhere from semi-faceless aliens who you forget exist when you stop looking at them to little tiny marshmallow-shaped creatures made almost entirely of fat, and super evil, Nazi-like aliens who use giant tin trash cans with bumps and a plunger for a hand.
In addition to this madness, every single actor who has portrayed the Doctor has had their own unique aspects in every single category. The original idea to have the Doctor "regenerate" his body as a way of cheating death was originally not even a thing until the actor who played the first Doctor was getting too old to continue playing the role. This is such an important aspect of Doctor Who, because if regeneration didn't exist, Doctor Who would not be relevant today. But because it exists, Doctor Who is now the longest-running TV serial ever (to the best of my knowledge)! With each new generation comes a new face, new clothes, new sonic screwdriver (a special all-in-one time lord tool), a new TARDIS (the time machine, in the shape of a police call box, which is bigger on the inside), new companions, new (and old) enemies, new theme songs and intros/outros, just about anything you can think of. This is such a masterful concept since the show can be refreshed every few seasons and always has something new to offer for old fans and a way of consistently bringing in new fans.
Every special episode/movie has always been very consistently loaded with (non-sexual) fan service with references that usually only hardcore Doctor Who fans will get. This awareness from the writers and producers of the show is so important for fans since they usually listen to what fans have to say and are an active part of their communities. There have been only a couple of "bad" Doctors, who have really only been a victim to poor writing or other unfortunate circumstances, and those have been few and far between. Culturally, this show makes such a huge impact, that I would consider Doctor Who to be the Beatles of fictional television entertainment (and don't get me started on the Beatles!)
Such a quirky show can simply not go under anybody's radar. I can't recommend this show enough. If you're interested, I can share a link to all of the classic episodes from 1963 up to 1989 that you can watch for completely free, and some streaming platforms have the modern seasons as well.

Did you get enough rest last night?  No, but that's my own fault because I knew I had to be up early and still decided to stay up on my phone until gone midnight lol.
What was the last thing that kept you awake?  The dog snoring.
If you have pets, do they sleep in your bedroom at night?  Archie does, but the cats stay downstairs at night otherwise they chase each other around like idiots over the bed at 3am.
Can you sleep with background noise or does it keep you up?  It depends - quiet talking is generally fine but I generally prefer silence or just the white noise of the fan.
Do you ever take naps? Do you take long naps or little power naps?  I only really take naps if I'm sick or have a really long day at work. They're normally less than an hour long.
What helps when you have trouble sleeping?  Watching random stuff online.
Who was the last person to cook you a meal? What did they make?  I honestly don't remember. Neither of us are really big cooks.
Who was the last person you cooked a meal for? What did you make?  Probably Mike when we had a roast dinner on Christmas Day lol.
Who is your female celeb crush? (If applicable)  I like Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried. Also Meryl Streep in a weird, non-sexual way lol.
Who is your male celeb crush? (If applicable)  Johnny Depp.
Tell me about an interesting article you’ve read recently.  It wasn't an article really, but a story about a YouTube family who have been arrested for child abuse and neglect. It turns out loads of people (other family and viewers) have been trying to alert the authorities for years but nothing happened.
Do you have a favorite Marvel character?  I have no interest in supheroes.
Favorite DC character?  ...
Do you read comic books?  Nope.
Has a horror film ever actually scared you? Which one(s)?  Yeah, The Others really creeped me out the first time I watched it, hahah. I was underage though and decided it would be a good idea to watch it alone in the dark LOL.
What was the last horror movie you saw? I have no idea, it's not really my favourite genre.
What was the first horror movie you remember seeing? What did you think of it?  I don't remember. The Ring, maybe? I can't remember what I thought of it, it was over two decades ago now.
Name a few historical figures you find interesting. Why?  Nah, I don't have the energy for that right now lol.
What is your favorite historical film and why?  I don't enjoy historical films.
Do you usually enjoy historical films?  No.
Name a sequel film (any franchise) you like better than the first film. Why is that?  The later Harry Potter movies are all better than the first ones - with the exception of Goblet of Fire which is just awful, lol.
Which do you find most interesting: Greek, Roman, or Norse mythology? Why?  None of them, to be honest.
Which tale from whichever mythology you listed above do you find most interesting?  ----
Do you collect anything? What was the last item you added to that collection?  Jumpers and wax melts. I got some more wax melts a couple of weeks ago but I don't tend to buy new jumpers until about October-time each year.
Do you have any houseplants?  No.
How do you like your tea?  Milk with two sugars.
Who is your favorite Muppet?  I find the muppets incredibly annoying.
What is your favorite type of bird?  Penguins. < Yes. <--- same! Plus owls.
Which streaming platform do you use the most, if any?  Spotify, Netflix, YouTube, Prime. I use them all equally.
What is a skill or useful piece of knowledge you wish you’d learned sooner?  How to de-escalate a panic attack.
What is your favorite vampire movie?  None of them, lol. They're not really my cup of tea. I did watch the first two Twilight films but let's be fair, they were awful.
Your favorite fictional couple?  Monica and Chandler from Friends.
Do you have a favorite historical couple?  No.
Have you received any good news recently?  I wouldn't say it was GOOD news, but Mike is off work on Monday which makes my first day back at work a lot easier than it would have been otherwise, haha.
Have you learned anything new recently?  Nah, nothing's coming to mind anyway.
