The Proudest Blue by Ibtihaj Muhammad, S.K. Ali, and Hatem Ali Blessed Muharram to all today! I wanted to highlight a wonderful book today, The Proudest Blue. I know so many people are already aware of it already, but I just got my copy so wanted to share! In this joyful, confident story, narrated from the perspective of an enthusiastic younger sibling, Faizah watches as her sister, Asiya, navigates her first day of wearing the hijab. When Asiya picks out a beautiful, rich blue color, Faizah exclaims that she looks like a princess, and admires her sister as she confidently wears it to school. Though Asiyah is teased by a few peers who don't understand her hijab, she ignores the haters. As her mother says, "Some people won't understand your hijab… But if you understand who you are, one day they will too." I loved the characters! Throughout the book, Faizah bursts with pride for her sister, drawing a picture of both of them in hijab and watching her strong, calm, and friendly demeanor, and while Asiya says little, her nonverbal communication says it all.
