I’ve noticed, with the Olympics, that a lot of people thinks they need to comment on what female athletes should do. How they should perform, act, love their lives, be a teammate, stand to fire a gun… Loads of everyday ordinary people can’t wait to pipe up with their hot two cents worth of bullshit opinions that frankly, no one asked for or needs. It seems like we should be used to it, because c'est la vie, that is life. Forever and ever, women have been told what to do and how to do it and how they are doing the things WRONG THANK YOU VERY MUCH, and could we not just please society a little more? Because really. What else are women for? There are always the “good girls” (easily controlled, obedient, quiet, subservient) and “bad girls” (brash, defiant, loud, bossy, FAST). Divided by others and divided against each other. It’s a never ending struggle, like climbing out of quicksand, for us to reject the Patriarchy. To stop telling women what to do, and just let them live their lives. As women, are we going to participate in this culture where we continue to oppress each other? Are we going to let other people tell us whether we live up to what they have deemed appropriate?
