That evening when she apparated right into his bedroom with the brightest eyes and a smile so wide, Theo couldn't help but smile back at her -- but it quickly faded away as she showed him the engagement ring on her finger. It couldn’t be more obvious that she was happier than she ever had been and he wanted to give her a reaction to match it except he simply couldn't. It made no sense, the feeling of loss which weighed him down and.. was that jealousy? It absolutely made no sense. She had been dating this man, an Auror who worked with her, for ages. Granted, he had thought of what could have been for the both of them at the time he had broken up with Astoria. Thalia had been with him whenever he had needed her, helping him through his heartbreak, through losing his fiancée -- but that was months ago. He had pushed that thought away when he saw that she was happy with someone else. 

But now, Theo’s head was spinning as he stared at her. She was quick to guess that he wasn’t himself, a worried expression etched on his features when she spoke. “Theo, what’s wrong?” It took him a moment to even realize that she was speaking to him -- he merely nodded in response, unable to say a word. He should congratulate her, join in her happiness, begin to talk about the hows and the whens -- that’s what friends did right? Then why he did he want to do something completely different? Why did he want to do something which would ruin everything? He was going to lose her. He knew he would. And yet, despite his better judgement, Theo stepped towards her, cupped her face in his hands and kissed her like his life depended on it, all consequences be damned.
