#theoretically overlapping music taste

Note
so the other day I listened to Soup by Remi Wolf after you said you liked it (we seem to have overlapping music taste, which is fun), and it’s so good! but I’m a little confused—in the chorus, she’s saying “they told me to leave but I don’t want to leave without you.” but then she also says “if you gave me the keys, I’ll go and pick up the soup”
And I know it’s a very literal interpretation to think “you were just saying you don’t want him to leave, but now YOU’RE willing to leave (theoretically he stays behind) for soup?”
Like I generally understand what’s she’s saying, but when I get into specifics, it’s a little strange. So I’m wondering—how do you interpret these lyrics?
aw i’m glad you like it!
i personally interpret it as 2 different forms of leaving. when she says he shouldn’t leave she’s meaning permanently, leave her and whatever they have behind. and when she says she’ll leave and go pick up the soup, i took it to mean she’ll sacrifice her time to do something for him in order to stay. ‘i’ll go do this thing if that’s what’ll take to make you stay’ kinda thing.

Aesthetics, particularly since Hegel, is the claimed domination of philosophy over art by which philosophy claims to unpack its meaning, truth, and destination after the event of art’s supposed death. … Art, for its part, resists this enterprise and rebels. We propose another solution that, without excluding aesthetics, no longer grants it this domination of philosophical categories over works of art, but limits it in order to focus on its transformation. It’s about substituting for the conflict of art and philosophy the conjugation of their means. … It is a so-called “generic” extension of art to aesthetics; the moment when thought in its turn becomes a form of art. It is a new usage of their mimetic rivalry, their conflictual tradition, which is finally suspended for a common oeuvre, a new “genre.”
//
I propose considering every art form in terms of principles of sufficiency and no longer in terms of descriptive or theoretical or foundational historical perspectives. To do this, one must construct non-aesthetic scenarios or duals, scenes, characters, or postures that are both conceptual and artistic and based on the formal model of a matrix. … These scenarios, by their inventive and constructive aspects, correspond to veritable theoretical "installations.” I propose an aesthetics in the form of conceptual installations of a new genre.
//
Aesthetics was always a carbon copy of art in philosophy and subsequently art was always understood as a deficient modality of philosophy. It is the phenomena of self-modeling of philosophy in regards to art, where philosophy finds its model in art, but a model which is philosophically pre-formed or pre-decided. … [W]ithout art, philosophy lacks sensitivity and without philosophy, art lacks thought, but also within the mode of excess, of overlapping, of mixtures and specular reflections. … Can aesthetics become a second power of art itself, can art engender or determine its own aesthetics instead of suffering it as being philosophically imposed upon it?
//
Non-standard aesthetics is creative and inventive and its genre is that of a philo-fiction, a philosophical artistic genre that strives to make a work with pure and abstract thought, but not to create concepts parallel to artistic works. … Non-standard aesthetics is characterized overall as 1. an aesthetics, no doubt, with a conceptual materiality which is its technological or technical core; 2. equipped with an artistic and thus somewhat specific technological modeling; 3. but deprived of the Principle of Sufficient Philosophy, as a duplication of transcendence.
//
We could ask, why should we thereby deprive ourselves of the benefits of philosophy? in reality, we are in no way whatsoever deprived of its benefits. Philosophy still serves to formulate photo-fiction and enters into it as an essential part of its materiality. We are only deprived of the excess of philosophy’s pretentions of the absolute. And, in the end, this is only to protect human subjects from philosophy’s sufficiency. For example, photo-fiction is efficient and produces fiction, which is to say a thought less sure of itself than philosophical discourse.
//
In photo-fiction, the objective appearances are materially the same as in the photo, but they do not auto-confirm themselves according to sufficiency; photo-fiction is lived (vécu) as an art without any bit of realism and it is in this way that it forms an even more intense chaos by the absence of the world or of its own sufficiency.
//
In this inversion of the object and its equal theory, the object that is first theorized by philosophy becomes the model for the constitution of a new, more complex, theory. A discipline to be created at a second level of which the standard philosophically received aesthetics is nothing more than the first level, or in any case, the symptom, the material, and in the end, the model. … Far from being a deficient, imaginative, and literary form of writing, fiction in its own way becomes a complex art, an art of interweaving disciplines as if imagination would acquire a more superior dimension of complexity by practicing an already existing art, in its form, material, and effects.
//
A spontaneous objection is inevitable from philosophers who, for their part, cannot get around the elementary simplicity of their conception of philosophy and do not see its doubled nature. According to them, it would be useless to want to create a supplementary art that is apparently parasitic on what already exists.
//
It is fundamental for aesthetics to follow the movements in contemporary art in the most profound manner, not in order to describe the changes under the same codes, but to import these types of changes within aesthetics itself, and to build scenarios that are themselves “theoretical installations.” Instead of rehashing concepts of mimesis, we instead extend the ideal of art to the thought of art itself, obviously with a respect “within philosophy” for the new conditions of this transfer. The problem of a non-standard aesthetics or thought-art, is to treat this semantic block as an indivisible whole, including art and thought within a holistic apparatus. … It is no longer a question of a mixing (métissage) of art and philosophy without rules, left to the arbitrariness of taste and talent. These two poles conserve their material autonomy and local syntax, but they form an indivisible entity between each other.
//
To think “aesthetics” in the form of scenarios, quantically conjugating a variety of arts and philosophies, would enrich and liberate possible productive forces and would justify the existence of art not as thought, as was talked about with post-modernists, but a veritable thought-art, entirely specific and worthy of being called “contemporary.” … If there is a possible veritable invention of the order of thought-art, it must be the object of a concentrated revival (reprise), of a decision between utopia and heresy, under the gaze of what we call futurality rather than history.
//
Philo-fiction is a gushing (jaillissant) and subtractive usage of the means of thinking, of philosophemes-without-philosophy, of mathemes-without-mathematics, and from here, all of the dimensions of philosophy rid of their proper all-encompassing finality, an insurrection against the all-too great superior finalities. Language is a simple productive force without its superior or over-totalizing finalities, but with its immanent finalities, quartially (quartiellement) instituted. The artist of philo-fiction that refers to the photo, to the painting, or to music, knows how to stop at this insurrectional and creative plane of art, creative precisely because its most dominant finalities are taken out of play.
//
In the photo as in fiction, images or concepts are produced an in one sense, they are the same, but they are interpreted differently. They are still appearances of the world and objects, and thus on this point there is no difference between them. But in the photograph these appearances of the world refer to the world in a certain deterministic and realist relation (principle of sufficient photography) where the world returns and over-determines objective appearances, whereas in fiction the conceptual images remain objective appearances which are no longer lived as in themselves or are not reorganized a second time by the cosmic order. In fiction, the objective appearances are materially the same as in the photograph (the photograph of philosophy since philosophy is a photograph of itself) but they do not auto-confirm themselves according to sufficiency, and it is in this that they form a probable chaos via the absence of the world and its sufficiency, via hesitation or indeterminacy.

ABC NSFW Headcanons: Aoi
In celebration of Aoi being released, here we are, coming for him! … Wait… no… Also, I am going to age him up to 18 years old because again, that’s the legal age in Japan. Finally, ignore the ‘Location’ part.
A - ‘Aftercare’ (What they’re like after sex)
Boys, meet your king and take some notes from the student, y’all.
Wipes you down and helps you shower, keeps you hydrated and even wraps you up in a burrito of blankets.
He does ask ‘How was it?’ because I have a feeling you are his first so he isn’t experienced but would let you set the pace.
B - ‘Body’ (Body Part of Yours he Loves)
Aoi is the kind to worship you.
But let’s be honest. You’re his first woman.
He will HAVE to go for the boobs.
It doesn’t help they are the only things stopping him from being completely consumed in your heart.
Tease him with them and he will lose it.
C - ‘Cum’ (How does his cum taste like/look like)
He is not even 20 yet but the poor boy is overworked.
So when he gets a release, it will be in HUGE amounts, albeit not in a complete one-shot and in gradual intervals.
The good news is that he probably cooks for himself so knows to eat his veggies.
Moreover, he doesn’t consume alcohol which would have affected the taste/amount of the semen.
He did indicate a slight interest in Ramune bottles though so I don’t think it’s going to be THE perfect taste.
Definitely in the top 2 though; slightly sweet with a tangy after-taste.
D - ‘Dirty Secret’ (DUH)
Has always wanted to paint… on your body.
It could be of anything, some sensuous flower, fierce animal or your favourite quote from a good book, he just wants to mark you in every way possible.
So why not his own art?
E - ‘Experience’ (Does he know what he is doing?)
One word.
Student.
He’s probably blushing like mad even after trying to discreetly read the books he loaned from Ginnojo…
Which lead to an awkward study-buddy kind of thing as they debated between themselves on how certain positions were even possible.
Both failed the theoretical but at least Aoi will get practical points later...
F - ‘Favorite Position’ (Again, duh)
He wouldn’t know much in the beginning but after a bit of experimentation, he settles for...
Coital Alignment Technique.
That technically was only defined in 1988 BUT that is not the point.
The giver lies above the receiver, moving up until his erection is pointing “down,” the dorsal side of the penis pressing against the clitoris as he penetrates.
Essentially, it’s like the Missionary but adjusted so not only can he bring you closer to a good orgasm, he gets to see each and every one of your expressions and be exposed to the pulse near your collar bones.
G - ‘Goofy’ (Serious or humorous?)
I know some might think he is all for serious lovemaking due to his stringent nature but I disagree.
He and MC seem more in-tune with each other than the rest of the team, and he is more empathetic and considers her needs and likes, without basing it on societal values or whatever norms.
If there is a funny moment or this is part of cheering MC up, he is more than willing to pull out a joke.
Sure, he might be dying from sheer mortification if you laugh too hard but your smile is enough for him to forget about it and laugh along and learn from it.
H- ‘Hair under THERE’ (Pubic Hair Treatment, does the carpet match the shades?)
He’s a clean-freak, he’s good with his hands, what do you mean he doesn’t manscape???
Pry this thought out of my cold, roaming hands.
And yes, it’s the same shade, if not slightly lighter.
I- ‘Intimacy’ (How they are doing the moment, romantic aspects)
This one depends on several factors honestly.
If he actually overcomes his fear of peering into people’s emotions, he might want to feel the warm embrace of your heart (with your consent, of course).
He does get embarrassed and may cover up any cute gestures with abrasive words but nothing will stop him from letting you know how much he appreciates you... even if you may or may not need a Tsundere-translator in the midst of it all.
At least he nails the whole atmosphere, making it nice and soft just to be in each other’s embrace.
J- ‘Jack Off’ (Masturbation)
Before MC? Hell no.
Dude only works himself up to a frenzy over dirty dishes and broken paintbrushes.
Meeting MC? Starts aggressively chopping anything in sight and taking out his frustrations in the cooking.
He then realizes the ingredients are getting more pounding moments than he has and starts to relieve himself when he is absolutely sure no one is around to stumble into his room.
Poor boy doesn’t know where to start though and it is only when he imagines his hands being yours does he get anywhere.
K- ‘Kink’ (One or two of his kinks)
I think I have said this before but unwrapping you like a present is a gift in itself.
Ribbons, ribbons, oh so pretty...
Look me in the eye and tell me that tugging on his long, luscious locks doesn’t get him off.
Consent. No, but seriously, him being constantly reassured that you want this as much as he does just encourages him to explore more.
L- ‘Location’ (Favourite places to do the do)
On Oji’s bed so that the old man can’t sleep anymore on that mattress.
Ok, but really, he would love it in either of your bedrooms so that HE can take care of cleaning up the mess and no one else.
Anywhere is fine, the wall, the bed, the floor. Just let him have access to some cleaning supplies.
M- Motivation (What turns them on, gets them going)
Anything about you being happy.
Heck, you could be smiling over some random 2D dude getting his route released in a few hours in some manga and he would be hiding a raging boner.
Did I mention ribbons? If not, then ribbons.
N- ‘No.’ (Something they wouldn’t do, turn-offs)
Whatever it is, no foodplay. How dare you waste food made from ingredients Oji-san FINALLY remembered?!
No threesomes either because he is always worried you might get Kuya involved...
O- ‘Oral’ (Preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc)
He is a GREAT giver.
Not only that, HE ACTUALLY KNOWS NOT TO JUST FLICK IT.
Ginnojo, does your bookshop have some hidden Sex Bible or something?
Firm, repetitive rolls before sucking on the engorged clit, all the while letting his one free hand grab onto some other erogenous zone of yours.
Initially, super reluctant to receive because “MC! It-it-it down there?!”
A bit self-conscious about the taste and if you can actually breathe.
Until you start to let your tongue wander over the whole of his length.
Now, he likes to give and receive.
P- ‘Pace’ (Are they fast and rough? Slow and sensual?)
He’s going for a marathon session whenever possible.
He loves lengthy lovemaking where all his senses are aroused.
That means sexy music and lots of foreplay to get a stimulating hour (or two).
Q- ‘Quickie’ (Their opinions on quickies rather than proper sex, how often, etc.)
He would LOVE it ONLY if you made a feisty quickie at work.
Rip off his clothes, and go at it as soon as he walks through the door.
That I-need-you-now approach boosts his confidence and his lust.
R- ‘Risk’ (Are they game to experiment, do they take risks, etc.)
Honestly, only if you suggest it.
And he has ensured that it will not jeopardize your safety.
And that it is technically physically possible, he has all the equipment...
Essentially, as long as both of you are prepared, he is more than willing to.
S - ‘Stamina’ (How many rounds can they go for, how long do they last…)
The first few times is a soft ‘2’ because he doesn’t know his own reactions (yet).
However, he quickly learns how to control yours and his release.
Suddenly, he wants to go at it like rabbits over long durations.
Seriously contemplates making a schedule.
T - ‘Toy’ (Do they own toys? Do they use them? On a partner or themselves?)
If you wanted to try one, he will... struggle to buy them.
So he isn’t so keen on them.
Also because he prefers learning your body’s natural responses to his touches and not through some plastic equipment that is...
Wait, why is it rotating?
Is it another wand?
U - ‘Unfair’ (how much they like to tease)
In the initial stages? You are the Queen of teasing this poor fool.
But remember, he can get his revenge as a Seer.
Basically, you are going to regret it MUCH, MUCH later.
... Provided he gets either drunk enough to say it or you two are like maybe, 1 month into the relationship.
V - ‘Volume’ (How loud they are, what sounds they make)
He is more into heavy panting, and airy, hot breaths.
Because he wants to focus on your moans and is a bit self-conscious.
But occasionally, rough grunts overlap with your sounds, especially the closer the two of you become.
W - ‘Wildcard’ (Random Headcanon)
You and his first time will make him extremely worried about hurting you, even if you aren’t a virgin.
Because one good/bad thing about his appearance is that sometimes girls randomly chat to ‘her’ about their lives… including very, very, very bad sex.
Until you make him discover the joys of voyeur vision.
Slowly undressing for him, and then starting to pleasure yourself.
The sight had made him weak in the knees, and he had quickly joined in to learn the ropes.
Oh boy, he is a great student. :D
X - ‘X-ray’ (How is the package?)
Hidden in loose boxers (to hide any reaction to certain actions of yours)
I’m going to be honest, he is probably just average in terms of length.
BUT GREAT GIRTH.
Even better that his glans is nearly the same size as his width.
A bit curved towards the stomach, with some prominent veins.
Y - ‘Yearning’ (How high is his sex drive?’)
High. Super high.
This is going to be first and hopefully the only partner.
He wants to ravish you at least 3 times a week.
A bit interesting it falls on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Z - ‘Zzzz…’ (How fast do they fall asleep?)
Initially, it takes him a good half-an-hour because he is so busy tending to you until you get him to relax with pillow talks.
Soon though, he likes to cuddle with you before hitting the hay.

The troupe — a roving band of actors, musicians and directors who produce a variety of plays and entertainment — is centuries old. So why has this generation of stage, television and cinematic impresarios found new resonance in this old form of communalism?
IN “HAMLET,” WHEN the hero wants to put on a play to “catch the conscience of the king,” he engages the services of a band of itinerant actors, a motley troupe of entertainment professionals instructed by the Danish prince to “hold, as ’twere, the mirror up to nature.”
As the Renaissance scholar Siobhan Keenan notes in her 2002 study, “Travelling Players in Shakespeare’s England,” the author of “Hamlet” based that fictitious company on something “he had lived for real.” Troupes of mimes and acrobats, musicians and mummers were ubiquitous in early modern Europe. Their performances were both religious and profane, encompassing everything from passion plays to puppet shows to commedia dell’arte sketches. They cobbled together material from various sources — Shakespeare’s own compositional method — and tailored their performances to local tastes and prejudices. Tradespeople as well as artists, the troupes operated according to a flexible organizational chart. In their working relationships they were companions more than colleagues, forging quasi-familial ties (including love affairs, of course) as they wound from town to town. The whole village would come to the show, and the community onstage, with its exaggerated conflicts and beguiling harmonies, served as a mirror for the audience, binding its members, at least for an evening or two, in common troubles and delights. A few young people might run off with the troupe, further blurring the boundary between the players and their public.
For centuries, these troupes defined popular culture in much of the world. They show up now and then in modern paintings, novels and films: in Seurat’s “Circus Sideshow” and Picasso’s “Family of Saltimbanques”; in novels such as Emily St. John Mandel’s “Station Eleven” and Barry Unsworth’s “Morality Play”; in Theo Angelopoulos’s “Travelling Players” and Fellini’s “La Strada.”
Those works evoke nostalgia for the rough magic of a bygone way of life, one that slipped away silently and suddenly, like the circus setting off for the next town at daybreak. Over time, the troupe aesthetic fell victim to the usual forces of modernity. Art, even when it depended on collective labor, became increasingly individualized in Europe after the Middle Ages, and the consumption of art followed the same fate. Culture now travels, for the most part, electronically — reaching the public through the invisible corporate workings of television networks, streaming services and movie studios. Live theater, where it still flourishes, is concentrated in commercial or philanthropically supported institutions. The scrolling credits and the fine print in the playbill record a strict division of labor. Though there is, technically, a “company,” it’s often an ad hoc confection brokered by agents, producers and other offstage dealmakers. The artists are individuals, and so are the members of the audience. The romantic idea of performing artists as a vagabond tribe, commingling with the rest of us and then moving on, has been dissolved in the medium of modern celebrity. And the corresponding ideal of the public — gathering to share in a common treasury of imagination — has withered as tastes have fragmented.
BUT THE HUNGER for that older way of doing things persists. Movie studios and television networks are soulless, monstrous entities, ravenous heads of a corporate hydra. A Broadway theater is an empty shell. There is not much we see that commands our loyalty, or inspires our solidarity. The unsatisfied, atavistic part of ourselves that harbors a dim memory of those wondrous nights in the village square experiences a special frisson, a jolt of recognition and excitement, when we witness the work of players who seem loyal to one another.
This is why we react with a special kind of excitement when we encounter what looks like the work of a genuine troupe in the crowded, highly mediated, aggressively monetized postmodern landscape where we scavenge for beauty, fun and enlightenment. What connects certain television shows, movies and stage productions to ancient folkways is a particular blend of novelty and familiarity. You see the same faces again and again in new disguises. The afternoon’s clown is the evening’s tragic hero; yesterday’s princess is tomorrow’s wicked stepmother.
To be more specific: The young actor Evan Peters, who creeped you out as a sweet-faced, homicidal teenager in the first season of “American Horror Story” on FX, returns in subsequent seasons as a falsely accused murderer, a reanimated fraternity brother, Charles Manson, Andy Warhol and Jesus. This is not an exhaustive list. In the same series — the flagship production of what we might call the Ryan Murphy Troupe — Jessica Lange has been a sinister nun, a witch and a maniacal, musical mistress of ceremonies.
To take another example: Ben Stiller, a fixture of several distinct, overlapping quasi-troupes (including his own), shows up in “Greenberg,” Noah Baumbach’s 2010 romantic comedy, as the misanthropic, underachieving brother of a successful Los Angeles hotelier. He cycles back into the Baumbach universe in 2015’s “While We’re Young,” playing the somewhat less misanthropic, not as spectacularly underachieving son-in-law of a prominent documentary filmmaker. And then, a couple of years later in “The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected),” he’s the successful sibling, a financial adviser based in L.A., struggling to keep his misanthropy in check and dealing with the narcissism of his father, played by Dustin Hoffman. (Hoffman was accused late last year by several women of sexual misconduct or assault. He has apologized to one of the women and has denied other allegations through his lawyer.)
If you are a habitual visitor to Baumbach’s galaxy, you are accustomed to seeing some of the same faces in altered guises. Florence Marr, played by Greta Gerwig in “Greenberg,” is not the same person as Frances Hamilton, Gerwig’s character in “Frances Ha” (2013) or Brooke in “Mistress America” (2015). But these young women stand in relation to each other like conjugations of the quintessential millennial verb “to adult.” They are melodies played on different instruments in the same family: clarinet, oboe, bassoon.
After “Greenberg,” Baumbach and Gerwig began writing together (they also now live together). “Frances Ha” and “Mistress America” are the fruits of that partnership, a fusion of complementary, but also distinctive, styles and sensibilities. “It’s like we’re standing on the beach picking up the same kind of rocks,” Gerwig says of their collaboration. (Gerwig’s solo voice as a writer and director burst forth in “Lady Bird,” one of the defining movies of last year.)
“Part of what’s great about working with the same people is that it’s an ongoing conversation that you’re having from movie to movie,” says Baumbach, whose troupe of repeat collaborators includes crew as well as cast. “How can we continue this thing we’ve been developing? And then there’s also the thing of explaining yourself to new people, which is good too. So you want some healthy dose of both.”
Baumbach’s characters are defined by their idiosyncrasies and imperfections, by their snowballing failures of communication, planning and insight. Bringing them to life demands precisely those things in heroic measure, and an enormous amount of work: endless rewriting, numerous takes, an editing process that begins while the script is still being written.
Ryan Murphy, by contrast, likes to surprise his actors, to spring ideas, situations and scenes on them in medias res — midseason and even mid-episode. “It’s always a little hair-raising,” says Jessica Lange. “With ‘American Horror Story’ we often wouldn’t get the first pages of the episode until the day we started shooting. I think anybody who’s worked with Ryan, especially on ‘American Horror Story’ — I mean, it is kind of by the skin of your teeth.”
“He can get sort of uninterested in a story he’s telling,” Sarah Paulson said, “and then decide to take it in an entirely new way that does interest him. So you can be going along, playing a particular thing and then all of a sudden you find out, oh, you really did kill your sister, and you ate her for dinner, and you didn’t realize that because you’d been playing the whole time that you really loved your sister. But it actually adds a beautiful nuance to your work.” The result is an ever-expanding, theoretically limitless multiverse of stories, and a thorough reinvention of the possibilities of serial television. “American Horror Story” derives its coherence not from a stable set of characters and situations but from the opposite. The through line is stated in the title — horror, a property that can be found in serial killers, witches, nuns, Charles Manson and our country’s current political climate. More concretely, it flows through the faces and voices of actors like Peters, Lange and Paulson, who discover, from one chapter to the next, the thrilling and spooky dimensions of their own talent. “It’s an incredible gift that you get to work for four to five months on something very, very intensely,” Paulson says, “just like you would on a film or a play, and then it’s over.”
A TROUPE, YOU will have noticed, is not necessarily a democratic phenomenon. Someone has to be the boss, providing both vision and connective tissue for the work of fellow artists. The current golden age of television has seen the rise of showrunners like Murphy as objects of critical scrutiny and fan obsessions, much in the way that movie directors were elevated to the status of artists during the postwar blossoming of film culture. Previously they had been seen as guns for hire in an anonymous industrial system.
Theater is an older art form, with a more complicated distribution of creative authority. Supremacy is habitually granted to the writer, who is sometimes also the star, and therefore a physical presence on the scene, but who more often is dead long before the curtain goes up. The popular image of what happens backstage involves a flurry of activity involving directors and dramaturgs, producers and impresarios scrambling to boost morale, prevent disaster and keep the bills paid.
Oskar Eustis is all of those things and also something else. The artistic director of the Public Theater since 2005, he leads in the tradition of two great New York showmen: George C. Wolfe, who directed “Angels in America” (1993) on Broadway and “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” (2017) for HBO, and Joseph Papp, the Public’s founder, who grew free outdoor performances of Shakespeare into a mighty civic institution. Under Eustis’s aegis, the Public, now housed in the former Astor Library in Lower Manhattan, has incubated such future Broadway hits as “Fun Home” (2015), “Hamilton” (2015) and “Latin History for Morons” (2017). It has been a home base and R&D facility for the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwrights Lynn Nottage and Suzan-Lori Parks. Season after season, it’s a whirring carousel of diverse, ambitious and politically urgent theater.
Eustis’s vision of the Public is of a kind of city within the city, a community open to new arrivals who settle in and stay for a long time. He likes to keep up with old friends and partners and to fold new talent into the mix. His relationships with playwrights like Tony Kushner and Nottage go back decades, predating his arrival at the Public. In the time he’s been there he has gathered in artists like Lin-Manuel Miranda, Oscar Isaac, John Leguizamo, the composer Jeanine Tesori and the playwright and actress Lisa Kron (co-creators of “Fun Home”).
These artists and others collaborate in a process that is intensive and exhaustive, a kind of rolling workshop that can continue for years. Theater, Eustis told me, “has to go through every phase of human experience, from the writer alone in their room chewing on their pencil to the conversations with the director or dramaturg as the piece is written, to the reading aloud with actors once a draft exists. So step by step until finally you have something that literally hundreds of people have been involved in putting together that’s being performed for hundreds of thousands. There is almost no example of a great work of theater that doesn’t involve many great collaborations.”
And that process has a meaning that extends beyond the theater itself. “This is such a transactional, atomized world,” Eustis said at the end of our conversation, “where everything gets a dollar value put on it. Everything is ‘I’ll give you this if you give me that’ and ‘What have you done …’ And to try and really build a counter to that, to say there’s actually a better way of people relating to each other, and while we can’t completely remake the world in our image, we can try to remake the theater in our image, and by doing that hold, as ’twere, a mirror up to nature.”
What we see on the stage and on the large and small screens are reflections of human social interaction. Every play, every film, every television show, is about a group of people — a family, a workplace, a neighborhood, a nation. The purpose of those art forms is to show us to ourselves, in glory and disgrace and at every point on the spectrum in between. The ethic of the troupe provides another, less obviously visible but no less powerful mirror. What we witness in the collective pretending is the result of individuals working together at a common task, in circumstances that, however grueling and disharmonious in the moment, are also utopian. This looks like the opposite of alienated labor, not just because it seems like fun — it’s not called “playing” for nothing — but because it transcends both the narrow individualism and the impersonal corporatism that defines so much of our working lives. The enchantment that we experience, craning forward in the audience, is not just with what we’re seeing, but with what we intuit about how it was made. Look: This is what we can do. This is who we might become.

Tantra Workshops in Rishikesh : What To Expect in 2021
If you’ve arrived here, chances are you’ve been reading or perhaps hearing about the philosophy and spiritual practice of Tantra. Putting the theory aside for now, you’d like to dive into a real Tantra workshop in Rishikesh and you are wondering what to expect from it in 2021.
First things first, it’s definitely worth making a distinction in terms. You might have heard talking of Tantra classes, Tantra sessions, Tantra Teacher Trainings and Tantra workshops in Rishikesh.
Let’s run through these definitions, to clear up any possible misunderstandings.
Tantra Classes in Rishikesh

Tantra classes in Rishikesh are generally group environments run by a facilitator. There will be a small amount of theory and a series of exercises, meditations and techniques you can practice solo or in a group.
There will be more specific details on what such practices involve in this article, keep on reading to know what to expect.
Tantra Workshops in Rishikesh
A Tantra Workshop in Rishikesh is a more committed step. Generally it will take place over multiple days and include a more structured learning process. This will certainly involve some theory on top of the practical exercises and special meditations.

They are structured around group learning and will offer you a range of theories and techniques to develop your understanding. A real Tantra workshop will give you a strong impulse onto this fascinating spiritual path. When the word refers to group sessions, its meaning substantially overlaps with Tantra classes or workshops, which can create a bit of confusion. So always seek to clarify with the staff of a school before you commit.
However, the most popular use of the word session generally refers to a one-on-one consultation with a Tantra teacher.
At times, these private sessions might be addressed to couples as a therapeutic approach to relationship or intimacy issues. An experienced practitioner will have a wealth of wisdom to offer to the respective couple or individual which can lead to accelerated understandings and transformation.
What to expect from a Tantra workshop in Rishikesh
So, what does a Tantra workshop in Rishikesh actually look like? Though some schools choose to focus on some specific aspects of Tantra, there are some fundamental key points which are common. We will present here a typical Tantra class.
The Tantra Teacher welcomes the group and gives a brief introduction of Tantra as a spiritual practice and the activities that will happen during the class.
After that, the teacher can often start with a socialising exercise to break the ice in the group and raise the energy. This may include some motor activity such as dancing, moving, and interacting.
Special Music is often chosen as part of the class and it adapts to the mood and the intensity of the exercises. The facilitator will then move onto developing the theme of the class he or she has prepared. Often breaks will be included as the days consist of multiple teachings, exercises and practices.
The focus within a workshop changes during each session and it may include sensuality, emotions, connection, moving the erotic energy and so on.
The exercises will unfold towards a crescendo of intensity and when the key activity is reached the participants can often experience peak states of awareness, understanding and feeling. People are encouraged to share their experiences to deepen the connection within the group and allowing everyone to learn from everyone else.
There are a variety of exercises that you can expect to find in a Tantra workshop in Rishikesh. Some key examples are meditation in pairs, eye gazing, understanding, soft caressing of the hands or fingers, connecting to the “heart” of others, conscious embracing, stimulating the five senses, breathing techniques, expressing emotions or whispering words of affirmation, etc.
It’s difficult to make a full list but at least you now have an idea of what to expect from a group Tantra workshop.
Conclusions

Style hunting
Free the Monsterind
In my constant struggle of finding a unique drawing style, I faced many creative blockages that were crucial to my overall development.
The whole experience was like a rollercoaster of emotions: encouraging myself to draw, choosing a subject, letting my mind free and start sketching, adding colours, trying not to be picky on brushes and experiment different types and different textures without following any patterns, having that boost of energy and enjoying the moment while listening to music, feeling the dopamine rush, being excited when I considered the drawing looked good enough and any other changes would decrease its quality, then opening my social media account, returning to the drawing application and see the monster staring at me (Janda, 2013).
A long-phrase that sums up my past two years.
Is the “monster” that follows many artists worldwide. But it is the same “monster” or we all have different ones? At this moment my mind would turn to 180 degrees and see the final form of my drawing as being “ugly” and immediately my reaction would be to close everything and do not show my creation to the online world.
I found myself wondering how the monster would look like and this was the image that popped into my mind the minute after, so I started sketching again. Not a ferocious beast, but a snob fluffy mauve creature being too spoiled to remain grateful for what he has.
Mind monster (Cimpoesu, 2020)
Starting to ask myself what is happening in my mind whenever I finish a drawing, was a promiscuous start. Why was I so concerned about what the others might think about my work? And why all of a sudden I would just have transposed myself into somebody else’s body and start judging my art, forgetting all the feelings I have had when I was creating it? Was my art supposed to carry any hidden meanings to anyone that might have seen it?
Art is subjective and does not represent pure tangible knowledge. Moreover, its purpose is to suggest and be interpreted by anyone who sees it (Scrivener, 2002). Thinking twice, every piece of art can include a small amount of knowledge due to the power of imagination and analysis its creation process.
Scrivener’s vision was that art in any form cannot embody pure knowledge either in-the-making process nor in the final-created object. This statement is half true from my perspective, for one reason: art, in any shape, can pass intangible information through generations, only because people can imagine and empathise through their bodies and souls, without experiencing the same times as the person who created it, but placing themselves in the other’s shoes, as humans made from the same material.
To be more clear, it is normal that paintings, for example, will not express anything at first sight; the viewer cannot gain any skills while staring at a canvas, but through analysing it he can feel at some point, all the overlapping layers full of acrylics and rough brush strokes that resemble shadows and highlights. In my opinion, it just depends on whom the viewer is: an artist will probably connect with the painting and imagine every step concluding the creation of it, while at a mental levet he could even transpose himself into the creator’s position.
As I started to see the presence of the “monster” more often, I started to draw more frequently just to try to catch momentum to analyse the feeling in depth. The answer was simple: my mind would categorize any of my creations as being low-qualitative in comparison with the others I have seen before from a variety of artists. Focusing on the flaws I automatically assumed that in the future there will be people in the same position as me (age, gender, being a self-taught artist) but with higher-quality final products.
The way art should be experienced is generally seen as being a short period of curiosity, sometimes it can progress on a long-term as well, until the reflection instinct approaches, as Danto et. al. (2013) suggest. Art should be a representation of the time and the environment it was created in. Another factor should be included in the equation, such as the experience the creator had and the time he spent on that specific piece of work.
The right of criticising
Formal analysis represents the theoretical structure of the human perspective and it aims to categorise every element found into a pattern such as proportion, variety and unity, along with the emotional baggage a drawing is trying to express. Combining the intellectual effect with the feelings that are created just by looking at a piece of art can be considered the key to a high-rated critical analysis. This approach can be replaced with a pure intuition of someone who had experience and had seen plenty of evidence to have the right to classify any work (Heydat and Sabzali, 2014).
This made me think if art is such a versatile subject, it should not be fitted into some patterns conceived by somebody’s opinions and perspectives. At the same time if art does not follow these rules then anything can be considered a masterpiece. What a massive paradox.
Coming back to my twisted mind experience, I was starting to think what makes any of my drawings better than the others and why over time only a few of them still remain beautiful and worth to talk about in despite of others. As an interesting fact, the drawings illustrating objects won all of my sympathy, in comparison to the portraits and the artworks containing any kind of faces, on which I currently have doubts about their worth.
Restlesnesss (Cimpoesu, 2019)
Breakfast in Poznan (Cimpoesu, 2019)
Traditional house (Cimpoesu, 2019)
The way I perceived humans dramatically changed during time. Self-criticism help me to analyse the weaknesses of my artworks and what is representative for my vision. In addition, one reason for not recognise my digital drawings as being qualitative was the presence of errors in the proportions of the faces, along with the lack of accuracy of the shadows and highlights placed on the subject making the whole picture to have a flat look at the first glance. Improvement can be recorded in this area just by studying the basic human anatomy features and the basic principles of drawing. At the same time, art movement such as Expressionism and Surrealism are focusing on particular styles of representing the human features in an unfamiliar way and they are recognised as meaningful and interesting points of view.
Modern French girl (Cimpoesu, 2020)
False posing (Cimpoesu, 2020)
Eye contact (Cimpoesu, 2019)
Examining the artworks now, after a long time, makes me notice the above photos look similar when exposing some aspects and are illustrating a constant style because of the used techniques, colours and tools. Despite of using a birds-eye view and underlying their similarities, the images are still exemplifying my creativity.
Personal brand identity
Many artists point out that their style was shaped after many attempts of different ways to approach a subject and browsing through working instruments, tools and perspectives and in the end there is no defined path to follow to reach the goal in a specific period. The final form of an artwork is influenced by numerous decisions and environmental aspects (Zhao, Cao and Lau, 2018) aiming to reach the receiver’s feelings, along with his admiration and interest.
The personality created trough all the final decisions and the presented outcomes represents a graphic designer’s way of expression, seeking to reach people who possess similar views. Although aesthetic taste is subjective and in constant change phases, a few elements are still keeping their place on the sensitivity map and help building a strong brand image when seeing an artwork for the first time.
Building your own creative style as a designer, leads to a constant communication with yourself and the others around. In the end, only by experimenting different scenarios a graphic designer can mould his preferences and fully express his thoughts through art, without having second thoughts about showing the final version. Due to art’s ideology and skills’s perfectionism timeframe, there is always going to be room for reconsideration leading to improvement.
Considering that for each artist there will always be people sharing the same vision as him, the action of finding the personal artistic style should be a metaphorical rollercoaster itself, which in the end will bring to light each stage and its significant meaning throughout the whole process. Understanding to embrace failure and to forgive myself when I don't have the desired outcomes, helped me more than it was expected.
Art, drawings and design taught me that you don't need perfection (Airey, 2012). It is fine to post something you do not like anymore and to appreciate that you did it. You have to embrace any state you have and be curious about any project you make because it is yours.
In conclusion, you have to learn to work with what you own and cherish your goal for your mind to be able to create anything that appears in your mind.

~ Flower ~ A Chris Cornell fanfiction (Chapter 6)
Okie! Hey hunnies! So, I will be planning to do something a bit different in my next chapter ;-) (Hint, hint lolz) so that’s the reason why this is so short, it’s a small filler since I didn’t update in a while. Hope you enoy anyway! XOX!
The atmosphere was tense as he adjusted the volume of the then current Aerosmith single blasting from the stero. I constantly fiddled and anxiously shifted in the shotgun seat, not daring to preserve any degree of eye contact with him.
“So, how’s Chris?” Ashton’s low, melodic voice finally crucified the painful silence. I cautiously glanced to the steering wheel, planting my concentration on the silver bands that accented his long, calloused fingers.
My instincts bickered and warned me of Ash’s wisdom. He would’ve certainly recognized my suspicious behavior if we condoned a conversation.
“H-He’s fine,” I stuttered apprehensively, mentally throttling myself for seeming so hesitant. I twiddled my thumbs as a method of calming myself. Along with permitting the irritating rattling and moaning of the music equipment that was saturated in the back of the vehicle to distract me.
He bobbed his head slightly, accustomed to the ebony, fringed bangs that cascaded into his face. He wasn’t convinced by my skeptical reply, I could’ve easily told by the way an amused smirk twitched at his lips.
Ashton was the most mature and content of the band, aging the eldest in years and common situations. He often counselled me as a figure of guidance and affection, our usual conversing and lectures were the extent of our personal relationship.
Though, ripening physically, theoretically and sexually, my thirteen year old raging hormones gravitated towards him. The fierce, edgy way he fashioned himself in his previous, teenage phases. He fascinated and interested me, the way he reacted to particular problems or scenarios.
I eventually wilted out of that era of my life, placing Ashton on a pedestal after familiarizing myself with his maturity and intelligence. I admired him as an individual, sincerely as a role model I was destined to develop into.
“You seem-” he paused, gently heaving the bullet of his sneakers onto the brakes pedal at the glowing red light. Glimpsing briefly at me, fondling with the seam of my shirt and gnawing on my swollen, plump lower lip, he concluded. “Nervous.”
The green glare indicated his permission to proceed down the main road which he took advantage of. “I’m fine,” I blurted with a breath hitching in my mid throat. I choked on literally nothing but fear, coughing rigidly as my eyes flickered to and fro the swerving cars.
“Is everything ‘fine’ to you?” He chuckled, palming the wheel and rotating it in accordance to the stretch of the street. I cleared the large lump out of my gullet and forced a string of giggles. “Yeah,” I sighed, slouching back into the leather upholstery of the seat.
“Everything’s great.” I didn’t intend for him to hear the additional phrase that dripped with irony, therefore muttering it beneath a lengthy breath. “What was that?” He inquisitively blurted, glaring at me with his irises glistening with curiosity.
“Um, n-nothing,” I murmured, lacing my arms across my chest and diverting my attention to the rapid, blurred scenery outside. He awaited with great patience for an appropriate moment to question my queer, rare conduct.
“Star, are you sur-” “Yes!” I didn’t intend for my retort to be delivered so harshly. “I-I’m okay, I swear Ash.” He sneered to himself and snickered, shaking his head and tapping the pads of his digits on the steering.
He properly fixed his posture and bitterly frowned. “You’ve convinced me that you’re not okay, stop lying sweetheart.” I gritted my teeth, grazing my tongue against the inner enamel and still avoiding typical eye contact.
“Stop accusing me,” I grumbled, focusing especially on the black paracord laces of my polished combat boots. “Never,” he snorted, distinctly cutting across several vehicles and swinging defiantly into another street. I scowled and scoffed, “Well I’m not gonna tell you anyway.”
“I already know what this bullshit behavior is about babe,” he retorted with lacking, or perhaps no angst, unlike myself. Ashton was of too much maturity to ignite and alpha an unnecessary war. “Really?” I attempted to belittle him with my scoffer tone.
“Don’t doubt me sweetheart, we both know what happens when you do that.” I rolled my eyes, already aggravated and irritated by his constant interrogations. “I know something happened between you and Cornell and it’s-” he faltered silent, suspending me in anticipation. “It’s what?” I snarled as he mused to himself.
“It’s intimate babe, it’s hot,” he chortled, making my stomach churn with remorse and my cheeks rosy with heat. There wasn’t a valid excuse to deny his accusation then, making me taste the corroded bitterness of defeat. My chest heaved as I inhaled sharply and breathed shallow.
“How’d you know?” “I know you, I know Chris, I know that apartment can get really boring sometimes-” he flickered his head to me and winked, intending other obscene activities. “Chris digs you Star.” “I don’t believe people when they tell me that anymore Ash,” I mumbled dejectedly, feeling a twinge of ache pierce my emotional heart.
“Don’t believe people?” He gasped, emphasizing the dramatic reaction with little embellishments to enhance his performance. “What did he do to you? Or what happened eh?” I felt myself go pink, feeling a sudden heat contagiously spread between my overlapped thighs.
The reminiscent memory of inching so intimately to giving all of myself, my physical and mental being, to Chris just bickered my insides and tittered my outer. “U-Uh, um,” I began stuttering, tripping over my knotted tongue several times as he tolerantly awaited on my explanation.
“Did you guys have-” “No!” I squeaked timidly like a flustered individual caught guilty. “N-No, we were going to but-” I cringed at the sour flavor that lingered on my tongue when recalling the single interruption that soiled the intended love making. “But?” He questionably muttered, entertained immensely by my hesitation.
“Susan showed up.” His brows rose and fell abruptly with his agonizing smirk finally plastering itself across his face. “Oh, the bitch.” “Chris’ bitch you mean,” I frowned. “You know I’m the wrong one Ash, I mean, I can be considered ‘the other woman’ now.” He shrugged and sighed, licking his chapped lips and replying.
“Your fault, not mine babe.” “Yeah, thanks, that helped a lot,” I sarcastically chimed, emitting a brief laugh from him. “It’s your choice if you wanna get into someone else’s relationship, if I were you, I’d move out of Chris’ apartment honestly.”
It was difficult to vividly create the imagery of arising to a relatively regular morning routine without a miserable, hungover Chris whining and pouting at me for majority of the pancakes. It seemed farfetched and generally surreal, Chris had emotionally strangled me within his tendrils, exaggerated with thorns and other harmful details.
He captured me vulnerable in his intended snare. I was a tender, frail bambino, innocent, angelic, but easily kept my astonishing identity personal and camouflaged by my horrid reputation. He was that seductive, ambiguous python, corrupting the individual’s mind with thoughts of unholy, and perhaps disgusting, suggestions. His shifting colours and alluring skin that he shed on several occasions.
I hadn’t realized my impotence and blemishes were of such prominence and boldness. He was absorbing me, luring me into his incognito schemes.
“You know I can’t afford that Ash,” I objected, composing a number of reasons to abstain the conclusion of departing from Chris’ apartment. He lurched his broad shoulders and swiftly bypassed the throngs of vehicles, some of which were teasingly offending his ability to drive, further agitating him.
“It’s either that, or Susan finds out, because you know that isn’t going to be the last time you and Chris fuck around with each other.” My jaw clenched and contracted, unwinding to verbally argue, until I surrendered with no substantiate. Ashton was probably right, no added agnosticism.
It would’ve tasted a foul lie to claim that I wouldn’t have partook in further genitive labor if Chris suggested or offered it. The man was animalistic, ridiculously arrogant with his roaring sex drive and egoistic aptitude to perform marvelous deeds in bed.
Though he was soft spoken at appropriate intervals, it supplemented to his astounding, harsh, dominating quart within the duration of intercourse. That confidence and courage he possessed then compared to the entertaining bashfulness he portrayed in the public eye.
“E-Erm, um-” I was unable to actualize words. He snickered in the mist of amusement. “What’s this? Starlett Stanley has no way to defend herself?” I hollowed my cheeks as I gnawed on their inner, flesh lining to prevent the apparent reddened tint from glowing. “Shut up,” I grumbled lowly, flickering the crusty remains of that mornings breakfast from beneath the sheds of my nails.
“I’m assuming he touched you,” Ash sniggered, attempting to avoid humiliating me, though I was already driven past that beacon. I nodded reluctantly and muttered, “He did, I regret letting him do it.” “I find that hard to believe,” the guitarist suspected, glimpsing at me with a coy smirk playing on his already curling lips.
“As much as I-” I was skeptical on utilizing the term like. In my personal opinion, liking someone whom made intimate contact with you was a sign of uncertainty. It seemed as though one was disoriented or questionable about their mental feelings for the opposing being. Either way I fought with myself, I still managed to choke and digest it.
“Like Chris, I know it was wrong of me to encourage it.” Ashton nodded sympathetically as my chest heaved and shallowed. “And I can’t move out…”

The Awards Season is a marathon, not a sprint. While there is a clear end line (the Oscars), the starting line is a little more nebulous. Briefly: the beginning line is at a special point for every film that enters the race. Some experience tons of year-in-advance buzz that carry all through the season (final yr’s “A Star is Born” was the year-in-advance frontrunner). Others make their debut at Sundance and hope to be the unbiased movie that lasts (see: “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire”). For many, they select one of the fall festivals to premiere at, attempt and decide up as many precursors as potential and stroll the tightrope until the Dolby.
So when does Precursor Season start? Let’s stroll by way of the totally different phases of awards season.
Take note of the fall film festivals. Not only do Greatest Picture nominees and winners typically premiere at these festivals, but their viewers awards do matter. Many early buzzed-about titles reside and die based mostly on snap reactions from film festivals in the fall. Festivals like Toronto Worldwide Film Pageant (TIFF), New York Movie Pageant, Venice Film Pageant, and Telluride Movie Pageant launch many of the fundamental contenders. Even the late-breaking films often attempt and make it to LA’s AFI Fest in November simply to get in underneath the wire. It’s necessary to make the rounds at as many festivals as potential to get the chatter going.
Viewers awards won’t all the time predict Greatest Picture winners, however the winners often go on to Greatest Image nominations. Each TIFF and Middleburg Film Pageant have seen their Audience Award winners additionally win Greatest Image one-third of the time since 2010. Much more astounding, both festivals have solely had one yr since 2010 the place the Audience Award winner didn’t go on to no less than a Greatest Picture nomination. The Venice Film Pageant has a much less stellar monitor document. The one Oscar overlap they’ve seen was when “The Shape of Water” gained the Golden Lion in 2017 and “The Favourite” was awarded the Grand Jury Prize last yr. When predicting Greatest Picture, ensure to think about the pageant Audience Award winners from Toronto and Middleburg.
Dates:
Venice Film Pageant – eight/28 – 9/7
Telluride Movie Pageant – 8/30 – 9/2
Toronto International Movie Pageant – 9/5 – 9/15
New York Movie Pageant – 9/27 – 10/13
Middleburg Movie Pageant – 10/17 – 10/20
AFI Movie Pageant – 11/14 – 11/21
The first precursors out of the gate are all the time indie teams. The Gotham Awards notoriously announce their nominations first. That is, nominations will come on October 18th, with the awards ceremony to comply with on November 26th. The Gothams are so early that they not often make or break a film’s Oscar possibilities. This New York-based group focuses particularly on unbiased films, so none of the giant studio movies are eligible. For being such a small group, the Gotham Awards often see one or two of their nominees show up in the Greatest Picture race. The truth is, their Greatest Image winner additionally gained the huge prize at the Oscars for 3 consecutive years (2014 – 2016). Briefly, it helps to have a robust kick off at the Gothams, however it doesn’t harm to be snubbed by them.
The same adage could possibly be applied for the Unbiased Spirit Awards. Film Unbiased’s awards ceremony is among the first to announce nominees and the last to announce winners. This yr, nominations can be introduced on November 21st, 2019, with the awards ceremony on February 8th, 2020. These awards have had a stronger relationship to Oscar, mainly because they contemplate an unbiased film to be any movie that value lower than $22.5 million. Five of the final 9 prime Indie Spirit Award winners went on to win Greatest Picture at the Oscars. On common, two of the 5 Greatest Picture nominees at the Indie Spirits also compete at the Oscars. Thus, it’s not important for an indie contender to receive a nomination right here, however it’s extremely helpful.
Dates:
Gotham Awards – Nominations: 10/18; Winners: 11/26
Unbiased Spirit Awards – Nominations: 11/21; Winners: 2/eight
The quantity of film critics teams grows and grows every year. At this point, there are over thirty critics organizations that hold awards from November to January. It’s quite a bit to maintain monitor of amidst all the different awards craziness. So what ought to an Oscar prognosticator pay attention to. It behooves an Oscar obsessive to disregard most of the noise. Critics are taste-makers, but they don’t seem to be Academy voters. What’s nice about these awards, theoretically, is they provide individuals a view as to what the regional style is all across the country. The extra critic groups exit on a limb with their awards decisions, fairly than attempt and predict Oscars, the higher the season is. Critics should use their awards to let voters know which of the screeners they need to be sure that to observe over the vacation interval.
Nonetheless, there are some higher-profile critics awards which are value listening to when putting Oscar bets. The coastal elite critic’s group (New York Film Critics Circle and Los Angeles Film Critics Affiliation) don’t do incredibly nicely with predicting Greatest Picture winners. New York only aligned with Oscar for “The Artist” in 2011, while LA obtained “Spotlight” and “Moonlight” right again to again. Still, every single LA winner since 2010 has gone on to a Greatest Image nomination. The only New York winner to overlook out on a Greatest Image nomination, since 2010, was “Carol” in 2015. These awards don’t sign the finish of the race, they are just heavy indicators that sure movies can be getting into the Greatest Image ring to compete.
The AFI Prime Ten listing is a very strange beast. They’ve honored really odd films like “Sully,” “The Dark Knight Rises” and “J. Edgar,” amongst others. Nonetheless, since 2010, each single Greatest Image winner has appeared on their listing. Throughout this similar time period, the record has included 78% of Greatest Image nominees. It’s somewhat straightforward to see what the one or two oddball picks are annually. Yet, it’s sensible to take their listing with a point of validity.
The Nationwide Board of Assessment and Nationwide Society of Film Critics are other good teams to try when making predictions. Somewhat more than half of the movies in the National Board of Evaluation prime ten will go on to a Greatest Image nomination, based mostly on its nominees since 2010. Nonetheless, the winners of both of these awards have only matched Oscar once and twice, respectively, in the final 9 years. Don’t guess the farm based mostly on their decisions.
Dates:
New York Movie Critics Circle – TBD Late November/Early December
Los Angeles Film Critics Affiliation – TBD Late November/Early December
AFI Prime Ten Record – TBD Late November/Early December
National Board of Evaluation – TBD Late November/Early December
National Society of Film Critics – TBD Late November/Early December
Awards season shifts into full gear once nominations are announced for the televised precursors. The primary three to tune into previous to the Oscars are as follows: Golden Globe Awards, Critics Selection Awards, and BAFTA Awards. The Display Actors Guild are additionally televised and we’ll cover them in the next part on guild awards.
The Golden Globe Awards are the next highest rated film award present, after the Oscars. This has more to do with their separation of Drama and Comedy/Musical and the regular pour of booze to Hollywood’s A-list all through the night time. Even with two Greatest Image prizes given out annually, the Golden Globes only match the Oscars roughly 56% of the time this decade. Even when one seems at nominations, roughly two-thirds of Oscar’s Greatest Image nominees appeared at the Golden Globes prior. The shortage of robust correlation possible comes from the makeup of the voting physique itself. The Golden Globes are voted on by the Hollywood Overseas Press Association, a gaggle of fewer than 100 journalists.
In recent times, the Critics Selection Awards have had the strongest correlation with the Oscars. Two-thirds of the Oscar Greatest Picture winners since 2010 also gained the similar class at the Critics Selection Awards beforehand. Additionally, roughly 91% of Oscar Greatest Image nominees have been additionally nominated at the Critics Selection Awards. Some have criticized the present for following group-think and present principally as an Oscar prediction machine. It can be fantastic for the Critics Selection Awards to go off the crushed path extra. Yet, as any good Oscar predictor knows, typically enjoying it protected leads to the greatest prediction score.
Of the three televised precursors, only the BAFTA Awards share voting overlap with the Oscars. Members of BAFTA may also be invited to hitch the Academy, which is why the exhibits are wanting extra and extra alike. Of the three televised precursors, BAFTA has the least spectacular monitor document of predicting Greatest Image winners since 2010 (4 out of the final nine winners). Nevertheless, BAFTA does a lot better at nominations. They nonetheless solely do 5 Greatest Picture nominees. Still, virtually all of their Greatest Picture nominees repeat with Oscar nominations. BAFTA solely misses once they select an Oscar close to miss (“Carol,” “Drive”) or British specific ardour tasks (“I, Daniel Blake,” “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”).
Dates:
Golden Globe Awards – Nominations: 12/9; Winners: 1/5
Critics Selection Awards – Nominations: TBD; Winners: 1/12
BAFTA Awards – Nominations: TBD; Winners: 2/2
The most effective predictors for the Oscars are the guild awards. This extends past the Greatest Image race and applies to the ballot as an entire. The guilds have such a high prediction price as a result of they have the biggest overlap with voting members of the Academy. Every guild, similar to the Directors or Display Actors Guild, polls their complete membership for their awards. This includes a broad swath of working professionals across every subject. Meanwhile, to hitch the Academy, a person have to be sponsored by two present members and have “demonstrated exceptional achievement in the field of theatrical motion pictures” to be invited in.
The Producers’ Guild Awards, Directors’ Guild Awards, Display Actors’ Guild Awards and Author’s Guild Awards are all the most main precursors to think about. Particularly, the Producers’ Guild Awards provides prognosticators the strongest clues to Greatest Image. This group has predicted seven of the final 9 Greatest Picture winners. Roughly 88% of Greatest Image nominees obtain a Producers’ Guild nomination previous to Oscars.
Even more spectacular, the Directors’ Guild Awards has predicted eight of the 9 Directing wins this decade. It routinely matches four out of the 5 Oscar nominees for Greatest Director, save for 2011 and 2018.
If someone is trying to predict an upset, the Display Actors Guild Awards is a superb place to look. Their SAG Ensemble Award has solely overlapped with Greatest Picture four of the final nine years. But, they’ve been instrumental in predicting surprise wins for “Birdman” and “Spotlight.” On a broader degree, every SAG Ensemble winner has no less than been nominated for Greatest Image.
The necessary thing to recollect is that no movie wins Greatest Image with help from just one guild. A Greatest Picture winner will probably have help throughout many guilds, not simply the prime four. “The Shape of Water” is a superb example of a movie that was honored by almost every guild because of its general technical prowess. Even “Green Book” noticed tons of guild nominations, even right down to the American Cinema Editors (ACE) Awards.

The Display Actors Guild are additionally televised and we’ll cover them in the next part on guild awards.
The Golden Globe Awards are the next highest rated film award present, after the Oscars.
