Okay I have a reply to this. I absolutely love Rose, and still don’t really like Martha. I was looking through your answer to this and found that I agree with a lot of stuff you wrote. As you can tell from my URL, NineRose is my life. But, I don’t think that the reason I hate Martha is because I think TenMartha is gross, or because he was still getting over Rose. Well, maybe I do partially. I think what really bothered me was the fact that even after he turned her down repeatedly, She still wouldn’t take a hint. I do like Martha, just this consistent “not getting the point” factor really bothered me, to the point of not being able to fully appreciate her as a companion. As well, this may just be me, but I feel that, seeing as Her season finale didn’t have as much “umph”, it seemed to me that it wasn’t quite as hard for her to love the Doctor as it was for, for example, Rose and Donna, and Amy and Rory. She left of her own decision. I mean, I know it was hard, but she did, In the end, make the decision herself, whereas Rose didn’t have that choice, and if she had, she would NEVER have left him. This has been a rant by Liv. Thanks for reading if you did, and sorry about my weirdness. Oops.

I don't know how fair it is to say that Martha didn't get the hint -- she certainly seems to know, as early as the Dalek episodes, that the Doctor doesn't see her the way she wishes he would. I also wouldn't really say she pressures him or anything -- she's flirty in Shakespeare Code but not much after that, she just sort of nurses her crush in quiet... quiet enough even that they can both play dumb about it at the end of "Family of Blood". Martha loves him, but it's not like she constantly guilts him or feels entitled to him loving her back.

I think you must mean it wasn't as heard for her to leave the Doctor, not "love"? But anyway, I don't think that's a strike against her -- if anything, being the New Who companion who gets to choose to leave on her own terms for her own reasons is a point in her favour, I think. I don't hold it against Rose or Donna for wanting to stay forever, but at the same time I think it's pretty great and pretty empowering that Martha looked at their relationship, realized it was unhealthy for her, and said enough was enough. I don't think companions have to be physically torn from the Doctor like Rose, Donna and Amy for their exits to be meaningful, and I think Martha's exit was perfect for her story. Rose wouldn't have left -- but Martha isn't Rose, the Doctor didn't treat Martha like he treated Rose, and Martha didn't have the same relationship with him that Rose did.

The thing is, they didn't really kissed that much. Nine kissed Rose. Ten kissed Casandra in Rose's body and Rose Kissed Handy and that's it, right?
