“Are you playing with me?” Buck asked, pressing the knife under the man’s chin while pushing on his chest with his fist.

Eddie was leaning on the counter with one elbow, his foot crossed over his ankle. He played with his dagger, short of breaking the skin of his index. “I think he’s playing with you, baby.”

Buck looked to the side, his eyes roaming down Eddie’s uninterested stance. He inhaled, turning back to the man. “My baby thinks you’re playing with me.”

“I-I’m not! That’s what the told me to give you, I-”

Buck nodded along the man’s words mockingly, his face imitating empathy. “How about you call him, then, and tell him,” he muttered, his face inching closer to him, “that your life is at stake if you don’t take us seriously.”

From where he was, Eddie sighed annoyed. “And make it fast, bitch.”

Buck pushed the man over the table with force, separating from him. “You heard him.”

The man gulped, scurrying to the other room and grasping as his pocket. Buck watched him until he disappeared around the corner, his desperate whispers already filling the place.

Eddie pushed himself off the counter, glancing to the side and then at Buck. “You think he’s gonna run away?”

“I think he’s an idiot.”

“That’s why I’m asking.”

Buck shook his head no. “He knows we’d find him.” He walked the distance between them, taking him by the waist forcefully. “In the meantime, let’s make out.”
