Hi! So I'm pretty new to the kastle fandom and wanted to know if there are any like- classic fics or interviews or memorable moments in panels and cons (with the actors) that I should know about? I know about the interviews that are on the kastle wikifandom page but only because I've read them.
helloooo! welcome to the family! it's been quite quiet lately, but frank and karen are always in our hearts lolol and every now and then there's a little resurgence, so that's nice. umm first up interviews. there's a lot of little quotes here and there that were a big deal. we didn't get many interviews of the two of them together, if i remember correctly. i think two comic cons were pretty exciting.
here are some interviews from comic con 2017 yup
this is a cute clip from last year, where deborah talked about how jon's intense but really uplifted her. and that they want to work together again.
(i'm looking at kastle's wikifandom and, really, the big interview quotes all seem to be there.)
“ … just in terms of whether this is Jon’s story to tell or my story to tell, you just want to kind of be respectful of everybody’s contributions. Jon and I have certainly felt that there is room for a romantic story in there. And there were certainly scenes where we took it farther in some takes than we did in other takes. We’ll have to sort of wait and see what the editors chose, and how far they decided to push it. But we as actors allowed for that possibility.” -deb cinemablend
deborah and jon were both supporters, but deborah was always including frank into karen's romantic potentials:
“But all of the romance I’ve gotten to play, with any of the characters in the series, whether that’s Frank or Matt, they all come from a need. From a lonely person, a person who doubts whether she is deserving of love.” -deb collider
**
“I like that Karen can say, ‘How far down this road of violence of revenge do you go before you’re ripped apart?’ and he can look at her and go, ‘I’m already ripped apart. And you are, too.‘” -deb 92.1 bobfm
**
“When professor [Jeph] Loeb [Marvel TV head] told me we were gonna do a series on The Punisher,” Bernthal continued, “first thing i asked him is would I have the pleasure and the honor to work again with one of the most honest, the most kind, and the most talented actors I’ve ever had the privilege to work with.” --jon ew
oh! karen page being announced for the punisher. very cute.
youtube
"i just want to say, you guys don't love him as much as i do" was very exciting when it happened lmaoooo. the hope for kastle was high.
*****
i'll be honest up front and say, i tend to forget a lot of stuff? so, basically, i can read a fic and then read it again months later and it's like a brand new experience. which is both a blessing and a curse. so, i basically just zoomed through my bookmarks to try and find some things?? 😩😩
(i'm scanning my bookmarks and.............a lot of them are basically just smutfdjklgsdfjglkdfjglkdfjg)
ballads for a dead man ❤❤ [three parts, unfinished] Safe up in the mountains with Frank following a bloody showdown in Hell's Kitchen, Karen wonders just how much more complicated things between them can get. She's about to find out.
these heavy words, your open heart 😘😘 (this was a kastlechristmas gift to me from @carry-the-sky 😊❤) “You told me once that I was honest. That I don’t lie to you. But the hospital—you asked me to start over, and I said I didn’t want that.” Karen sucks in a breath. Frank’s eyes are still on her, wide and bright. It’s the most vulnerable she’s ever seen him look. “I lied,” he says.
The Reporter [kinda iconic ❤👀] Force Recon missions keep Marines isolated, entrenched for long periods in covert locations. They rarely received visitors, and in Frank’s long experience, the visitors were almost never civilians, let alone gorgeous blondes with mile long legs and sky blue eyes. Frank was trying not to stare. They all were. Well, everyone except Bill, who’s face had just split into a shit-eating grin.
The Flower Cam [oh god, the flower cam! i just remembered!! ❤] It had been a long time since there had actually been any flowers in the window. She must have trashed the white roses after his latest bullshit at the hospital with Madani and the kid. Good. Good for her. She should forget about him. But still… Frank couldn’t help but check every once in a while.
actually just, everything in their ao3. i have all this bookmarked.
(..................god, my bookmarks are really all smut. this says a lot about me.)
Castle’s Auto Shop ❤❤ yes. yep. Karen Page is in need of a car mechanic. Castle’s Auto Body Shop seems a reasonable choice. There’s just one problem: This little auto shop has become a well-known spot where less than honorable people to go get their car fixed…only to have justice find them at the next stop light. Having her brother’s truck fixed there means Karen will have to own up to a few secrets in her past.
Blood and Bone ❤❤❤! this is the fic that has seared itself into my brain. i've never once forgotten this. iconic. Frank Castle is a boxer at the top of his game. Laconic and anti-social, he has a reputation for being an incredibly-tough interview. Karen Page is a sports reporter trying to prove herself in a male-dominated field. She's done playing games--trying to be the "Cool Girl" who caters to the male fantasy--and now she's on a mission to take no shit. "For a while, the fact that an interview with Castle lasting longer than 5 minutes even existed was big news. Splashed all over the message boards—circulated among boxing and Castle fans alike. The very concept that someone actually got the man to sit down for more than a breath of time and give multiple-sentence answers to a question—it was huge. Massive. It was the only thing Castle fans could talk about. Until three months later, when Frank Castle disappeared. Then that was the news. It was the only news."
this is hard lmaoo how ludicrious. i have about seven collections from some of our events, as well. there's loads of good stuff in there:
kastlesmutweek 2018
kastlesmutweek 2019
kastlechristmas 2018
kastlechristmas 2019
kastlechristmas 2020
kastlechristmas 2021

𝚊 𝚝𝚒𝚖𝚎 𝚠𝚊𝚜 𝚑𝚊𝚍!! fanexpo was absolutely nuts, but overall we had a really fun time, met some insanely cool [ and attractive ] people, and came home a lot more broke but with lots of memories!
meeting joseph was a little bit disappointing [ i hate to say ] -- nothing to do with him!! he was seriously so lovely, kind, ridiculously cute, and i am so beyond grateful that i got multiple opportunities to see him / that he even does things like this! that said: the people who were handling him or whatever were just horrible. i've done a lot of cons over the years [ including this one ] and i've never seen an artist / celebrity handled this way. they severely overbook him to the point where it felt like it was impossible for him to see everyone, and i felt like i was lucky to get 0.5 seconds of his time. like with ALL my other photo ops and autographs i've had [ also with some big names ], i've had great experiences -- lines still move really smooth and quick, but somehow there's time for a hug or a cute little pose in a photo, there's time for like a couple words back and forth, just to make the interaction a LITTLE bit more special for each person who spent so much money for it and some traveling from out of state or country even!
again: it's not joe's fault at all and i'm still so so so grateful i got to see him! but the greed of the con really was just so frustrating because i feel like it ended up eating into what could have been more special, enjoyable interactions. it feels like $$$$ > the actual customer experience. like ... for my photos, they were just SCREAMING at us "NO POSES! HE WILL NOT POSE! NO HUGGING! NO PROPS!" i was like: "NO FUN!" like ... i get trying to keep things moving, but jesus, it was giving ✨hostage situation✨ and literally sucked all of the fun out of the whole thing. it was like: you walk in, they're all screaming and then you're just rushed in the room, thrown at joseph and SNAP! there's your photo BYE!
i feel like i didn't even have time to have A THOUGHT before they took the photo -- and i had 2 photos but hated my second one [ joe had his hand in his pocket and i ended up next to that arm which he didn't or couldn't move to pose better with me so, i just look like this awkward ass third wheel ... like i'm not even supposed to be in the photo ... maybe i cried about it! mind your business! ] -- and in the first photo? which i like better / have here, they didn't even catch the massive glare on my glasses for me to come back and fix [ again, i had like zero time to even think about how my head was posed so, i didn't realize! also: with my charlie cox photo? they caught the glare and called me back to take a second photo so ... ]
i also wanna say that i understand that some people don't wanna hug or do things, i don't feel entitled to celebs that way of course [ i always ask before things like that! consent always! ] but like ... i saw photos of joseph hugging people or doing cuter photos / poses -- maybe i just needed to say 'fuck it' and ask HIM instead of listening to the staff screeching at everyone, but that's just not my nature! i'm a rule-follower! lmao sgdasfdg
BUT Y'KNOW. i'm still glad i was able to do it, and there were so many other more amazing experiences and interactions that everything sort of balanced back out again. ❤️❤️❤️ charlie cox is a LITERAL ANGEL and i cannot deal with how adorable and sweet he is. jon bernthal is always a freaking delight [ utter chaos with the family taking photos with them before us like ... they had a baby that just burst into tears and it was literally ... so funny i cannot tell you. absolutely the perfect sum up to an insane day 😂 ]. we met grace van dien and gabriel luna on total whims, and they were probably some of the kindest, most lovely people i've ever met. we gave grace a couple cute beaded "friendship bracelets" that we bought from a vendor at the con [ to match ones that my friend and i had got ] so we could like all be 'besties' and she legit loved them so much and we all just high-pitch girly screamed at each other 😂💞 [ i think she even wore them the next day on sunday, too! 🥺 ].
AND LET ME TELL YOU THAT GABRIEL LUNA HAS A NEW LIFETIME FANGIRL IN ME NOW. like, i loved him on the last of us, but we literally were just like: oh he's cute, we loved the show, and his line wasn't too long at the time so we were like 'hey what the heck, let's get a photo.' he was literally leaving his table just to come into the little line and talk to EVERY PERSON to thank them for being there -- shaking hands, eye-contact, hugs, remembering people BY NAME from previous days / events / etc. i called him 'the peoples' princess' tbh and i stand by it! he looked me right in the eyes and called me 'sweetheart' and i swear to goD i swooned [ the slight southern accent really did something to me, all that combined like are yoU KIDDING ME???? ]. then when we actually went up to chat and get our photo with him like ... he loved my eddie vest i had on and was like DO YOU HAVE THE DIO PATCH, I LOVE DIO ... he then sang at me a piece of a tenacious d song that mentions dio ... told my friend that her name was the same as his first love in high school???? called me sweetheart more, called us BOTH 'cutie patooties' and just .... i was like ARE WE BEST FRIENDS NOW??? but this kind of stuff is what i go to cons for: these really amazing, special interactions that i know i'll never ever forget. i'm pretty sure i just melted into the floor -- gabriel luna is a real one for sure, and i really appreciate him taking all that time and energy to make everyone feel so special! ❤️❤️❤️
OH! then there was jodi freaking benson [ lovely! ] and sean gunn [ so cool! super nice! ] -- so, with all the madness, it was all totally worth it to meet artists who have created / been a part of so many films / shows / etc. that just mean so much to me! i appreciate them all for coming out and letting us nerds say hello! ❤️😌 NOW just to countdown until the july con where i'm gonna probably pass out after meeting andrew garfield and brie larson! lmao
#** DO NOT REBLOG **#MY FACE + A LIL RECAP OF SORTS#phew this weekend was a lot and now i'm back to work which is also ...... ugh#hope you're all having a good tuesday! ❤️❤️❤️#00. // OUT OF AMMO ( OOC POST. )

why am i the only Jon Bernthal stan who lives in Europe aka nowhere near places where Jon regularly goes for cons like i have to see people be able to meet him and tell the tale of how nice and adorable he is and in the meanwhile i’m sitting here on my own ass seething because i wanna meet this amazing fantastic man and can’t
#the downsides of only watching all the stuff nobody else is watching#the good part is i'm not in toxic fandoms#because my fandoms are always composed of 5 20-somethings and a banana peel#or too violent for the teens#so i get literally no stupid drama in my fandoms <3#then again... no jon bernthal at cons :(

I love watching comic con panels with Milo a lot more than regular interviews on TV shows. Panels seem more relaxed and natural where he can let his true self out, he jokes more, he's way more playful, maybe even cocky. Whereas at TV shows everything he says feels scripted, and the questions are usually the same, so he has to give the same answers over and over again, and you just know that he practiced it, that this is media training, this is not him. I wonder if he's gonna attend anything in the near future 🤔
My favourite Milo panel is where he is with Jon Bernthal, at San Diego i believe, where he tells a bunch of funny stories ☺️

TL;DR warning: TFATWS Ep. 6 / Finale There’s a lot to unpack in this series finale, and I sure as hell am not the expert to do this, but I thought I’d highlight some particular issues I have. Much of this, admittedly, will be coming from the high character tenors of the previous episodes, whereas this episode is really where the “MCU kind of movie denouement” kicks in. If you can call/criticize something as “Disney formula” writing, this might be it. Did it hamper/dampen my enjoyment of this series? Not THAT much, but it really stands out and suggests it could have been better. So let me do a few numbers. 1. PRO: A very acceptable execution of selling not only Sam’s first outing as ‘Captain America’, not only the affirmation of Bucky Barnes’ commitment to heroism, but the apotheosis long-denied to Isaiah Bradley. I’m getting the impression much of the gushing here in Tumblr will be focusing on that--and to an extent, I am in agreement. their characters were very well fleshed out and to be honest, I wouldn’t have it any other way. There may be still other things I would recommend as a better laid-out recognition for Isaiah (something more faithful to the Truth comic miniseries), but that’s a minor quibble compared to the others below.
2. CON: Falling into the trap of a “GOT-layout” series ending Ok, that description might be too harsh. After all, point # 1 is near perfect.
However, and this is a very big HOWEVER... A really good show does not rely solely on giving your main characters the best ending possible. Their supporting cast deserves at least a fair amount of character development (understandable motivations, a good appreciation of their character arcs, more moments which make you empathize with them especially if you are trying to experiment with moral ambiguity on their characters). The fact that the action sequence ate up more than half of the final episode’s near-50 minute runtime really prevented any further character development moments. How, to some extent, this became insufficient with Karli Morgenthau and John Walker become really apparent in the end. 3. CON: Under-served Character Denouements Karli and the Flag-Smashers, in practice, were basically given the “Killmonger” treatment: they’ll have to die, but the validity of their moral argument will be recognized. As someone with a very limited set of fandoms I follow, the only other place I’ve seen this done is Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. The protagonist cast was left to die, but the tragedy of their situation led their world to improve things for the better. (For those familiar with this fandom, many will understand that this did not go down well.) Compare this, in turn, to how Breaking Bad gives even the supporting cast and side-characters understandable character endings.
The reason of complaint here, being, that this kind of story flow robs these characters of agency not only in their tragedy--but also how they choose to go out. Sympathetic tragic characters, to an extent, are at least given some dignity in how they go out. The fact that Karli and the Flag-Smashers are practically disposed of by a) Sharon, now fully revealed as the criminal Power-Broker and b) Zemo, whose butler is no less capable in extreme action even while he was in prison further highlights how they are basically reduced into ‘plot elements’, not a fully-realized group/faction of people.
John Walker, for his part, is also given very little to do (and indeed, what little he was able to do in the entire fight sequence is laughable). Even his one spark of “good choice” (seeking to save the falling vehicle’s occupants), even if he failed, was ultimately overshadowed by Sam’s more flamboyant rescue. One might be able to make argument, perhaps, that that is the point: Walker’s arc in this episode, perhaps, is to finally learn why exactly he can’t become Captain America: because he remains primarily a soldier, and only good at that. Witnessing Sam arguing and pontificating in front of the cameras, perhaps, is what hammers it home to him--and why perhaps his last scene in the series is him accepting his new role as U.S. Agent. If his world is going to be small and he is going to be pigeonholed into what he is good at, so be it. If he can’t be Captain America (now that he knows why exactly that symbol is powerful, and what is required of it), he’ll find his way with people who will let him be what he can be. Notice, however, how even between these two underserved characters, John Walker has a more understandable progression. I don’t think I’ll really be able to fault ‘left-wing’ viewers of the show who will be left dissatisfied by this ending (especially those who are sympathetic to the Flag-Smashers’ demands--especially as to some extent (due to my own line of work and leanings, I’m kind of one of those). And then there’s the reveal of Sharon as the Power-Broker--its own can of worms, but I’ll fold it in the next item. 4. MIXED BAG: How the show’s social layout closes
The fact that the MCU’s undercurrent politics remains to be “institutions are bad, mob/grassroots action will always be misguided, let media-chosen/private individuals and orgs show you the ‘right way’ of doing things”--it isn’t really as helpful as it could be. The show basically ends with Sam and Bucky’s individual arcs and moral world-views affirmed. It is definitely a happy ending for them. It is, however, pretty difficult to swallow that it ends well for them when the bigger picture is left unaddressed. (For those who may be interested in this line of critique, this video essay, “Imagining the Tyrant” by Kyle Kallgren / Brows Held High / oancitizen should be helpful.)
Nowhere is this better illustrated than in 2 instances: the setting of Walker’s rechristening as U.S. Agent, and Sharon’s “pardon” scene--now that we know she is in fact the Power Broker. Both events happen in the U.S. Senate Committee hearing hall--basically making the statement that even with a new Captain America that is more ‘home-grown’ and closer to the ground and common people (even as he literally flies high), the institutions of the U.S. government is still as impervious and clueless to its corruption and enabling of crime and injustice. Criminal elements like Valentina de Fontaine and the Power Broker foster the underground economy with impunity, and the U.S. government allows them to for a number of unbuilt/unestablished reasons.
It’s a valid/backed-up argument to make, and with historical/real life basis at that, but this is the kind of plot development difficult to credibly sell within a 6-episode miniseries already crammed with character arcs--and it shows. Compare this, for example, with how the Netflix series The Punisher built throughout its Season 1 run how exactly can black market profiteering grow under the CIA in a believable way. There, you see exactly what needs to happen for a previously-established upstanding character living in a grey environment to turn grey--even full on black (be it Frank Castle/the Punisher himself, Dinah Madani, or even Billy Russo). I’d want to chalk this up to the possibility of merging/reintroducing that world--and by god, imagine Jon Bernthal’s Punisher returning in this kind of gray area--interacting with Captain America AND the Winter Soldier, as this series is now likely to be titled--should be very interesting.
---- These are the top points in my head after my first watch of this finale. I may be rewatching this again--who knows if I get to come back. Still, it’s been a pretty meaningful ride. P.S. I should probably admit to my Filipino background here again, but it’s hilarious how the closing shot of this series (Sam and Bucky having a party with their family/community near the Louisiana seaside) is basically how mosts 80′s/90′s era Filipino action and comedy films end (either a beach party or a wedding/outing near a beach/swimming pool). The presence of Pinoy shout-outs in this series (”Amatz” and “Isang Tao, Isang Mundo”) really emphasize how this might not be an accident.

Seeking Literate Partners!
Disclaimer: Male authors, please stop contacting me. I've been burned too many times. If you persist, I'll ignore your message. Hello, you can call me Doe! I'm 25+ and a proud cat mom. I write multiple paragraphs/novella style (200-500+ words). I love to write detailed descriptions and delve into a character’s head/emotions as well as surroundings. I compare it to writing a novel together. I understand if the scene doesn’t have alot going on and therefore requires less like rapid fire. I adore having long, thoughtful replies where we truly immerse ourselves in the world. I'm hoping to find a partner whose as enthusiastic and passionate about the plot and writing as I am. When I get invested in a story, it’s 100% dedication. Getting a reply is the highlight of my day. I'm a big fan of romance and using face claims. I’m the type to make pinterest boards, spam you with gifs, headcanons, and send you songs that remind me of our characters and/or ship. I'll get excited if we come up with future plot ideas, or if our characters are being cute or angsty and I can yell about it in the chat. Last but not least I only do MxF (with myself in the female role) and don’t double, but I’m more than happy to write side characters of either gender to help move the story along. I'd highly prefer female authors writing male characters. Searching For - 21+ partners - For you to have an excellent grasp of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and capitalization. Both in character and out of character. (Literate to advanced writers only, please. I'm not looking for newbies or those who have English as their second/third language). - Plot before smut. While mature themes will be in my plots, and are even encouraged, there needs to be chemistry between our characters. I like to have a good mix of plot and tastefully written smut, along with doses of angst and fluff. - For you to write as an older man (40s+/50s+). I'm a sucker for the gruff and tough men with dark pasts who secretly have a soft heart. I also love those grumpy, hypermasculine men being intimidated by soft yet commanding women. The youngest I write is early 20s. - Please be enthusiastic and invested when it comes to plotting/worldbuilding. There’s nothing worse than receiving one sentence in reply to two paragraphs of ideas, or having a doormat partner who says “sure” to whatever I ask. Tossing ideas back and forth, watching them snowball into amazing plot threads brings me joy. - Joining me in the wonderful world of ship/character development is kind of a must. It’s one of the things that makes writing with a partner so much fun. I also like to make friends with my partners! - While I'd prefer real life face claims, I'd also be open to using realistic art if you're uncomfortable with real life. I draw the line at anime/cartoon art. Faces I'd love to write as: gal gadot, rooney mara, ruth negga, saoirse ronan, sophie turner, jessica chastain, jennifer morrison, mia wasikowska, natalia dyer, brit marling, deborah ann woll, mackenzie davis, emmy rossum, adria adjora, chyler leigh, hayley bennet, tashi rodriguez, lily james, cara delevingne, maya hawke, katheryn winnick, elizabeth olsen, abigal cowen, sophia lillis lauren cohan, zoey deutsch, paulina singer, crystal reed, hayley lu richardson, ask about others Faces I'd love to write against: jeffery dean morgan, hugh jackman, robert taylor, jr bourne, jon bernthal, jason issacs, anthony varrecchiah, brett tucker, david harbour, frank grillo, iain glen, josh duhamel, patrick petitjean, ethan hawke, christian bale, rory mccann, younger sam elliot, titus welliver, viggo mortensen, joel miller (illustrated face), ask about others If you've made it this far, thank you! You won't be disappointed in writing with me. I tend to be online daily and while I'd like it if you were too, I understand that real life things comes first. Let me know if you're going to be inactive/can’t continue. If you suddenly stop replying ic and ooc, I'll drop the story after 2 attempts of gauging continued interest spaced a week apart. 【 jon bernthal, cismale, 39 】this just in - THOMAS ‘TOMMY’ EUBANKS has been in wickway for EIGHT YEARS. apparently HE is the MANAGER AT HOWES’ AUTOMOTIVE and an EX-CON, or so HIS passport says. so far it’s known that HE favors CEE’S DINER, and resides at ELRY CAY. HE is also said to be OUTGOING & RESILIENT, but also MOODY & CYNICAL. at the end of the day, HE can be described as A TROUBLED PAST, A DOG ALWAYS AT HIS SIDE & OLD, SCUFFED LEATHER BOOTS HE REFUSES TO LET GO OF.
Thomas Finley Tommy Eubanks, 39, criminal turned auto-shop manager. is probably sky-high right now. 99.9% of his friends don’t actually know what state he was born in. known for being a hands-on and skilled manager who loves his dog, Billy, more than anything in the world. likes living his newfound quiet life, animals, and working on his own car. dislikes dogfights, the crosses on his hands, and constantly feeling like he’s being watched.
at birth; his parents were young when they had him - very, very young. they weren’t prepared to be parents and it showed in the way that they started to raise him for the first portion of his life, their other habits sometimes taking priority over him. his grandma stepped in and helped where she could, which led to him forming a bond with her that was stronger than the one he had with his own mother.
at five; his parents went to sleep one night and didn’t wake up. he was taken away and placed into the foster care system because his grandma couldn’t be his sole carer, and that was when somehow, things began to get even worse for him. he’d only continue to feel like he didn’t fit in, wherever he was.
at twelve; he tried to run away from home for the first time after moving between several different homes, feeling like he’d rather be anywhere else but the homes he was taken into. all he did was climb out of his bedroom window and walk three miles in the night to his grandma’s. over the next few years, he tried unsuccessfully to leave, and not return.
at sixteen; he succeeded in his quest to get the hell out of where he was living, disappeared without a trace from his foster home, and if anybody tried looking for him, they didn’t succeed. he fucked off and moved through a few states on his own for the next two years.
at eighteen; he joined a small group of people who he became friends with and subsequently traveled with, realizing how much he did miss human company. they completed odd jobs to afford to stay in motels and hostels and anywhere else that would have them.
at nineteen; he was involved in real crime for the first time. sure, he’d been shoplifting all his life, but this was grand theft auto. he and his buddies stole a van to take them on the next leg of their adventure, and subsequently discovered a litter of puppies in a cage in the back. they sold all but one of the puppies, and Tommy kept one; the first dog he was responsible for
at twenty-two; he had his first real up close and personal encounter with the law. they tried to arrest him, but being the slippery bastard he was, he did what he did best and cleared off out of there; which was for the best, as there were a few people in a few neighboring states that probably wanted to question him, too. he took his dog, broke off from his group of friends, and for a while, only had his four legged friend for company.
at twenty-six; he was getting better at fixing up cars, but he was also getting better at not getting caught when breaking the law. he still moved around, never staying in one place for more than a few months.
at twenty-eight; he found himself completely alone again, having to bury and leave behind his best friend. the next three years, give or take, he spent on his own for the most part, and that took its toll on him.
at thirty-one; he found himself in Wickway, and did what he always did; slept around and did some odd jobs for cash, intending to leave again after another few months, but quickly caught wind of the Santoro gang and was subsequently roped in by a new friend he’d made, who knew all he wanted was a place to belong.
at thirty-two; he finally acquired the infamous Santoro crosses on his hands. he loved the symbolism of, felt like he had a home for the first time in forever - but slowly would grow to hate them
at thirty-five; he was completely thrown off track by the gang’s dismantling but he held it together. got another dog to keep him sane and to give him day-to-day company, and stuck with his legal job, eventually earning his promotion.
at the present day; he said no to the gangs invite as they slowly began to resurface and reach out to those who had been loyal to them in the past. those days are over and though he knows he’d be safer leaving Wickway, he can’t bring himself to leave because it’s the only place he’s ever truly settled in and he likes his job... so he’s being stubborn and staying put, though he’s all too conscious of who could be watching him at any moment - he knows he’s considered a traitor for trying to detach himself completely from the gang. sometimes, on quiet days, he’ll sit around and wonder what his grandma thought had happened to him.

Hello lovely friends!! The connection was so shitty and unreliable during the actual con that I really couldn’t get much out other than some quick stuff on Twitter, but I’m finally on my way home and have free airport wifi so I’ll try to write up some highlights.
Anyway! The experience was lovely and it went by FAST (which I expected – the generous amount of time I had with Elodie @ SLCC was definitely an exception rather than the rule! And y’all, have you SEEN HER HAIR??), but guys, not that we needed confirmation but it’s all true: Charlie is the sweetest, warmest, kindest person in the world. Despite there being SO many people for him to meet and talk to, he had a smile on his face the whole time. And to think he’s going to travel to another city tomorrow and do it again!!
His panel ended up being pretty par for the course with the stuff he’s done before. There were a bunch of fun little responses (hopefully mostly accurate, I took a lot of quick notes!):
Apparently he’s become obsessed with eating crap cereal after night shoots and it wakes up the baby every time
The Black Mirror Christmas episode gave him nightmares for a few nights (he was asked about his greatest fear!)
There’s been a lot of conversation with the S3 showrunner about how Matt has changed as a result of the Defenders (things that he’s learned, as well as things he still hasn’t learned!!)
One of the things he has to work hardest on when it comes to Matt Murdock is smiling less! Because Charlie smiles all the time but Matt / DD does not smile as much lol.
Semi-related: someone asked if it’s weird to see Jon Bernthal smile after he’s been in Punisher mode. Charlie said smiling isn’t really Jon’s problem, though he did try to make Jon smile by whispering “Don’t smile, Jon, don’t smile” while shooting together.
And if anyone is curious, I did ask a question, and yes, I dropped in a bit of Mattelektra (and I’m so embarrassed that this exists on a recording now, please don’t remind me of it later!!) — it was basically in reference to this Chris Brewster Defenders interview; I wanted to see if he’d share some insight into how him and Elodie and Chris actually worked on these fights — unfortunately he gave a much more general answer but at least I got the courage up to do it :p!!
My photo op with Charlie went so damn fast and my biggest regret of the day is probably not asking him for a bear hug in that moment! I’m so self-conscious about bothering people and being too pushy but alas, I bet he would have totally did it then. I suppose I should be very happy I had the moment at all, and I’m going to remember that!!
My last opportunity to connect with Charlie was during autographs — which took way longer than I expected since he was literally slammed for HOURS, but once again, the moment you get up there he is SO sweet and friendly and focused on you. In retrospect, I wish I had been in the right mental state to take a cute pic of him while he was signing, but I was so damn frazzled trying to carry a conversation without being a total fool, that took up most of my mental energy. But it does relate to the one funny moment to share from the experience — right before I’d gotten into line, I ended up picking up a GORGEOUS DD print from Alex Maleev. I joked to him that I was using my precious Charlie Cox autograph cash to buy it. Alex lit up a bit and told me he wanted me to tell Charlie something for him — Arsenal sucks! He promised that as long as I said it was from him, I’d get a free autograph from it. I didn’t really care about that, but it was funny and I thought I’d be a good reason to strike up conversation with Charlie. While it was my turn I told Charlie what Alex said, to which Charlie gave a big laugh and said, well, I have to give you a free autograph now, so you better take it out fast! I was legit taken aback but eek, was thrilled to get a bonus Charlie signature on this amazing print! I stumbled at the finish, lovely lovely man is like thanking me for coming and trying to shake my hand again and I’m like whaaaaaa, but anyway, it was great, haha.
Bonus coolness: In a very impulsive but lucky move (b/c his list was full), I managed to snag an Elektra sketch commission from freaking Jeff Dekal so don’t ever say I don’t do everything I can to bring more Elektra content into this world b/c I do LOL.
Anyway, time to hop onto my next flight, thank you for listening to my fangirl rambles, you are all wonderful for indulging me. Now we can all geek out together over Charlie’s next appearance and Elodie’s panel tomorrow yayyyyy!

Ace Comic Con Report!
@shipperhipster and I road-tripped to Arizona for Ace Comic Con in Glendale! (Afterwards, we made a side-trip to the Grand Canyon to make it a real vacation before heading home - more photos on that later!) BUT wanted to post about the experiences at the con! I did a separate write-up about how awesome it was to meet two of the top Art Designers of the MCU (Andy Park and Ryan Meinerding) HERE There were a lot of ups and downs about the convention itself. The SUCKIEST was that Chris Evans got sick the 2nd day of the con, which is the day we had our tickets to meet him/get photographs. It was going to be our first chance to actualy do a photo-shoot with both us with Chris & Seb together, and we were really looking forward to that. On top of that, Chris was only days off of filming Avengers 4, and he was actually in a rare state of clean-shavenness (which as much as I do love beardy-Steve, he still looks the most like iconic Steve Rogers to me when he’s clean-shaven. We had planned on capitalizing on that for some photo shoot poses :/ ) That being said, we still feel like we couldn’t be that upset about that. We’ve had the chance to meet him before and took an awesome photo with him. We had friends there who were going to be meeting him for the first time, and there were even people who had flown in from countries all over the world to meet him that may not have gotten the chance :( That being said, all in all, even with the disappointment of not getting to see Chris Evans, we still had a great time, and the things that did go well went very well.
Speaking of international visitors, right as we were heading in, an Uber pulled around and asked us if either of us spoke Japanese. Which was absolutely coincidental since I did actually take four semesters of it in college - even though it had been a long time, I knew enough to help translate between the young woman who had flown in by herself to the convention and the Uber driver. She was so sweet, another huge stucky fan, and we chatted as we waited in line to get into the con! (I have a terrible memory for names, but I believe she was Kanoko!) She was super sweet, excited to be there, and her sister had even spotted us at a different convention before and had photos of us - such a small world! She had a great movie-accurate Bucky Backpack with her that she was going to get signed ^^
The Location of the Arena was wonderful - since the stadium is designed to deal with a LOT of people, the area was beautiful with a ton of shops and restaurants in easy-walking distance that could easily handle feeding the crowds. There was an amazing Japanese place we went to called Kabuki after the con that only had a very short wait and some delicious sushi. There was a movie theater, Dave & Busters, bars who had decorated to cater to the comic convention crowd, and all-around a great time :) A comic convention IN an arena, however... there were definitely some growing pains. While the photo shoots were great, and they are run by a different company, all of the autographs were up in the top level of the arena - which meant if you had a narrow time-gap between a photo and an autograph, it could be tough. You had to sit in the very tight (especially if you were in a costume) nose-bleed seats that were angled so as vertigo could be a thing. It also meant that when you were waiting for your turn, since they were pulling people up a row at a time, you couldn’t watch other people interact with the guests while you were waiting.
The con also did not allot NEARLY enough time for the autographs. Sebastian Stan was running over an hour over his allotted time and the staff was rushing him with talking to people - we were at the end of his line, and when we came up he was talking to a handler about why they didn’t budget enough time, and feeling bad bout not getting time with visitors. Such to the point that while he was signing something for him and we were waiting for him to finish/finish speaking with the staff so we could say hi, one of the staff was trying to rush us out “you got your signature ladies, now go!” - I’m thankful Shipper said something - along the lines of we paid to at least get the chance to say Hi to him, and poor Seb - was very apologetic even though we weren’t directing it at him/he wasn’t the one trying to rush us out before we said anything. BUT - My wife got the chance to compliment him on his work on I, Tonya (during the panel, the emcee had spoken to Anthony Mackie and Chris Evans about other roles they’d done, but then asked Seb about The Martian (which he was in like 5 minutes of) and asked how it was working with Ridley Scott (who Seb said was like acting in the dark - NO guidance at all) - and you could tell he was miffed that he hadn’t been asked about I, Tonya since that’s what he’s been promo’ing and the movie is up for some good awards and he has a significant role in it! He also said that he liked my costume! Eeeee! Another down-side of the arena format was the stairs: we had brought a rolly-bag FULL of the MCU Artbooks (The bag probably weighed like 40 lbs) for signatures but rolly bags are not convenient for stairs. Most con floors - sure. Thanks again to Shipper for hauling it up and down the arena stairs TWICE before we were able to get them signed and taken back to the hotel. That being said, the upsides were good - All of the Arena staff were absolutely on-point. They were helpful, concerned about the experience and knowledgeable. When Chris cancelled they made sure guests had choice of alternatives (subbing-in a different op, doing partial-shoots and refunding the Chris “value” if he wasn’t there, or a full refund) - and stayed late to work on processing refunds. When the exchange-your-printed-ticket-for a photo-op coupon line got RIDONKULOUS (across the entire arena floor, up the stairs, and around a corner in the next level, arena staff got on it to make sure that people expedited it. And aside from the lady rushing us at Seb’s table, the rest of the con staff were nice and helpful. which after Comicpalooza, was incredibly refreshing.
That being said, one of my favorite things about cons - the artists’ alley where you have a lot of craftspeople selling interesting wares - was absent from the con. They had BIG comic/pop toy/etc dealers on half of the arena floor, and then a big circle of pro artists selling almost exclusively prints (which is great, but I like a variety) all around the (rotunda?) ground floor of the arena hallway. Then a few different vendors up around the signature area.
Tom Holland was absolutely sweet. I think that this was his first convention outside of SDCC - where he actually got to meet fans and interact with them. He had his own private security team that had a second round of checks after the convention group and were more limiting props for shoots, but that’s understandable considering how young he is and how up and coming he is! (And that this was his first con of this format I think) He was enthusiastic, friendly, and seemed genuinely excited to be there. He had also volunteered to be a sub-in for Chris Evans with group photo shoots, staying late to help people out. I missed most of his panel, but it looked like he was having a good time, and Ned’s actor was also thrilled to be there, taking photos of the crowd. Tom also was having fun peeking out of the curtain of his signature area and waving at the people waiting for him.
It was still a little weird for me to see all the girls likely half my age heart-throbbing after him XD I had no idea how popular he was with teens, but it makes sense! But we were thrilled to meet the MCU Spidey, get his autograph added to our shield, and I think he was an AWESOME Cast!
Signature Right in the blue in silver! Other things of note - Jon Bernthal makes me squee a little more every time I hear him talk. He spoke in his panel about the experience that made him an actor. He had gone to the college for sports, but wasn’t good enough for that to be a long-term career. He had wound up taking an acting class for an elective because he thought it would be an easy class he could hang in the back of. IT wasn’t what he expected and when he didn’t prepare for one class where he was supposed to bring a significant object and describe why it was meaningful, and seeing all his classmates breaking into tears talking about the things he brought, he felt put on the spot. He dug out a baseball glove and made up a story about it being from his grandmother. He had half the class in tears and felt bad - saying afterwards - no, man, this is just acting - it isn’t true. The teacher then pulled him aside - and said that he broke the rules of acting - he wasn’t genuine - but that he had a gift. She made him enroll in the play, and psuhed him. She changed his life and he tattood her name on his wrist and she officiated his wife and his wedding.
Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Micro’s actor), on the other hand, obviously didn’t want to be there. He came an hour late to his signing after a staffmember had to go retreive him, and apparently “came in with an attitude” about being rushed. He was pleasant enough to us for the signing (and was pleased that people picked up on his character's interpretation being a Snowden analog) - but at the panel he had stank face the whole time, and when asked the same question about what got him into acting it was “it seemed like the most logical choice at the time.” Moreover, when the emcee asked them about what their favorite role was the other actor had been in, Jon gushed about being a fan of Ebon’s work - his great role on Girls, some of his stagework, and Ebon just.... drew an uncomfortable blank - even after the fact two questions ago Jon had talked about his other roles. The moderator had to offer him to “come back to him”. It was kind of awkward. Anyway! All in all, the experience was worthwhile - and Shipper’s new iphoneX got some great photos of our cosplays :)
