Nawwaf Solis for Beyond the Pines by @themotherplant

Nawwaf's life has been full of ups and downs. His mother did her best to raise him as a single mom, but she struggled to keep a job and they were homeless by the time he was a toddler. She decided to make the difficult decision to give him up for adoption when she ran out of money to feed them.

As a child, Nawwaf was adopted by Brennan and Addisyn Solis. They moved him into their three bedroom high rise in San Myshuno and he immediately felt culture shock. It took him a while to get adjusted to always having more than enough and it still surprises him sometimes. He channeled his complex emotions into his art and was starting to show real promise. Then high school happened.

His first year of high school was one of the worst years of his life. Being a creative outcast with an Arabic name, he was the target of intense bullying. His parents tried to help him, but they lived a very privileged life and have never been able to truly understand his struggles. Something inside of him hardened that year and he came back sophomore year a changed person.

As part of this change, he started to work out all the time and gave into some of the high fashion trends that his classmates wore. He even gave up art and joined the football team. Now he could both blend in better and stand up for himself. However, he lost himself along the way and it all became twisted when he started to join the bullies. He even started to push them to go further, especially with the physical violence.

Flash forward to the end of junior year and he has officially been expelled. In just one school year, he got caught starting fifteen different fights and accused of ten others. His new found mean streak has even spilled over into his attitude toward his teachers and his parents. The final straw was when the last fight sent three boys to the hospital with one now having permanent brain damage from the severe concussion he received.

Nawwaf's parents are truly at their wits end about what to do with him. They adopted him later in life and are now elders just trying their best, but in truth they are scared of the path that he is going down. They have tried talking with him and just spend time with him to show that they are there. Unfortunately, it all just leads to arguments with Nawwaf leaving the room screaming at them. Feeling like they have no other choice, Brennan and Addisyn are enrolling Nawwaf in New Dawn to hopefully get back their quiet, creative little boy.

Happy Simblr Gratitude Day!

I’ve been sending some individual Asks around for Simblr Gratitude Day, but I didn’t have enough time to write them out for everyone I wanted to. So, I’m making a quick post to shout out all of you amazing people that have brought me endless amounts of joy and inspiration.

I am actually fairly new to Simblr. My first post was only six months ago. From that very first post I was overwhelmed at the kindness and support of this community. We truly have a special little corner of the internet, and I'm so grateful to have found it. Being here has lit a spark in me that I didn't know still existed, and I'll never be able to adequately put into words how much this means to me.

And just when I thought it couldn't get better, @nexility-sims created the simblr writing group on discord. I was nervous about joining at first (I tend to just lurk and leave virtual groups because I'm actually incredibly shy and introverted), but I am SO glad I went for it and joined because I have NEVER been so excited about writing. Even after only two months, I have received so many insights and so much inspiration and connected with such wonderful people. For the first time in my life, I'm actually thinking of myself as a writer, and I cannot wait to see where my writing takes me in the coming year!

Thank you to @daniigh0ul and @armoricaroyalty for making this day happen! I will look forward to it every year from here on out!

haunted by the loss of their mother, casey discovered an interest in the occult and all things morbid. they found solace in the world of gothic literature, horror films, and video games from a young age. however, the weight of grief did not fail to surface, permeating every aspect of their life.

their father, cold and traditional, turned to alcohol and offered little support to casey growing up. as a result, they spent much of their time isolated and alone. casey would find comfort through art or niche online forums. when days became too suffocating, and none of their interests could ease them, casey would resort to self-harm to keep themselves grounded. she always wears longsleeves to hide the scars.

one day, casey lashed out at someone at school - an incident which took everyone by surprise. the schoolmate carelessly touched on a sensitive nerve related to their mother’s death. it triggered a surge of emotion within casey, a teen who had gained a reputation for eating lunch alone everyday, which lead to an uncharacteristic outburst. it was the first time they had ever shown physical aggression in public.

recognising the severity of the situation and the need for intervention, school authorities, along with casey’s father, made the difficult decision to enrol them into new dawn.

✧ casey never learnt how to process emotions and often uses art to express it. otherwise, they generally bottle it up until they snap.

✧ they feel a lot of frustration about going to new dawn. but deep down, they hope it's the help they've been looking for for a long time. while casey isn't particularly excited about socialising, it would be nice to make new friends

✧ casey takes a weed gummy most nights to help with sleep, but also because it's easier to hide from their dad.

✧ they struggle with body dysmorphia. casey struggles with being percieved in general and is often conflicted between showing off their figure and covering it up completely. 

✧ it's not common knowledge that casey is nonbinary. it's not something they like to open up about and while they're fine with being misgendered, it's not ideal

Adrianna, age 18, was the beloved track star at Cooperdale High. One night after a party, Adrianna didn't come back to school for a few weeks. Another string of strange disappearances and murders happened and then suddenly stopped. Adrianna returned into school like nothing happened but looked a little worse for wear. When questioned about her disappearance, she claimed she had a bad case of the flu and was staying with a friend, and she didn't know that no one had told her parents. No one truly knows what happened in those few weeks.

In short, Adrianna had been abducted by a group of vampires, but her and a few others managed to escape and she enacted her revenge. She has been sent away due to her aggression and late night escapades by her parents. She has been trying to find other means to sate her appetite, but her taste for Sim blood is sometimes stronger.

Anne was a child who always had it all. Third child out of four, she grew up with a privileged upbringing in the more well-off side of Willow Creek, always getting everything she wanted as long as she attended her piano and violin classes. Her father is a succesful doctor and her mother a former flight attendant, now a stay-at-home mom, and together the hardworking couple had a strict path laid for all of their children - from private school to university and onto successful future.

But alas, rich kids have rich kids problems. Falling into the middle child category, Anne often felt ignored and insignificant. Things were expected of her, but she didn't get enough valuation for achieving them, unlike her older siblings. This led her to descend to the most dangerous mindsets a privileged brat can sink — boredom. Boredom and ignorance. Anne started to develop an attitude problem, especially with authorities and rebelled against everyone and everything. She felt like nothing she did mattered in the grander scheme of things, nor did it have any real consequences. Her parents noticed her bad attitude, but being soft-hearted parents, they didn't really have the means to set her right. Things only got worse as Anne's boredom grew and she turned to vandalism. She felt lost in her life, since all her life she had tried to appease her parents' expectations and now she had no idea what she herself wanted out of life.

All this grew into a mild depression, which in turn only increased Anne's reckless behavior. Shoplifting, riling people up, graffitis and wrecking things up were the only things that seemed to bring her joy, or at least induce some kind of emotion, and it didn't take long before Anne was in all kinds of trouble. As she was approaching her eighteenth birthday, her parents were really out of their wits with their daughter. Not able to control her and fearing her first destination after moving out of home would be the prison, they enrolled her to New Dawn, hoping it would be the wake-up call she desperately needed.

Despite this, Hana is known for her unwavering loyalty as a friend. Her journey took a turn when she discovered her love for conservation and research, leading her to originate an eco turism development model. This innovative approach became the hallmark of her work around the world, showcasing her determination to make a positive impact despite her past struggles

Mariana had a good life living with her parent's on the homestead in Henford-on- Bagley. Until at the age of 15 snuck out with her friends and went to a bonfire with alcohol , smoking and doing god knows what else a day before her 16th birthday.

After well into the party, with everyone drinking and high, poor decisions were made after she flirted with one of the football members and soon went off to hook up in the dense forests around them.

Sadly things took a sinister turn after the guy tried to sexually assault her and soon after kicking him in the pearls stumbled off visually shaking and running off blindly until she reached the old copperdale mines and made sure hide as she heard the guy distantly calling her out to comeback etc.

When she was sure he was gone she emerged with a sob and with trembling hands dialed her mother, not going into detail what happened but just hearing the soothing words that her parents were coming for her.

It was when after she was picked up by her parents as they were crossing over the bridge into Moonwood Rd - a short cut to the farm and an enormous animal came out of nowhere, causing them to swerve and spin into the ditch and then a tree.

Everything for her hurt and just felt out of sorts and soon after dialing 911 passed out. Bout 20 mins later she had awoken to the feeling of being carefully lifted, and a glimpse of a blood splattered wind screen and son started to cry out for her deceased parents, the rescue team trying to soothe her as she was injected with some pain reliever and soon passed out again only to awaken a day later in the hospital.

During this time in her long time of therapy, the farm was sold, possessions were put into storage, the money from the farm put into an account for a trust fund and then started living with a guardian - an aunt she never knew about who lived in Bridgeport and worked in a bar as well as a side hustle of exporting and importing certain goods.

Though her Aunt only ever smoked cigs and drank, she never did anything else. She also taught her the ropes of bartending and encouraged the girl to apply to university with a big stack of cash in an envelope for her to take to the otherside of town saying everything should go smoothly. Well apparently not all went over smoothly and soon her Aunt was gone when she got back - found her dead from a robbery.

Soon another funeral was in the works and though she had enough for a month, soon began going to underground fight clubs to earn cash. And that's how she was eventually arrested by a undercover cop during a fight and taken in and soon will eventually go to a retreat ordered by the court as part as her community support.

DEVON and NOAH SYKES for @themotherplant 's IN THE PINES

Truthfully, Deborah and Marcus never thought they had bad kids.

Growing up, Devon and Noah were considered, by all accounts, to be pretty good kids. Mostly quiet, despite whatever petty squabbles siblings may go through. As an older sister, Devon was attentive and caring of her little sibling, even if they weren't all that far apart in age. As they grew up, Devon was always regarded as a bright, pretty girl, and Noah crawled around in her shadow - despite Devon's best attempts to drag them up alongside her.

Middle school began a shift in behaviour from both of them, the pair of siblings starting to fall into a more troubling routine. Noah, to escape the discomfort of ever being compared to his sister, had begun to fall behind in classes. He started smoking pot early, very early, and spent more time listening to music in the basement and playing video games than minding his schoolwork. And then there were other kids - the horrors.

While Devon always had it relatively easy, Noah did not. Uncomfortable in their skin, gangly, awkward, bullies buzzed around him like flies, gnashing their teeth and balling their fists.

A-student Devon wasted no time swooping in to protect her sibling. Where Noah was naturally made of softer stuff, Devon had a heart of steel - she had absolutely no qualms cutting down other students. It started verbally, but when her sibling came home with a fat lip or a swollen eye, she balled her own fists in response and marched back out to take vengeance - swift, brutal vengeance.

The pair only fell deeper into their roles come high school. Devon ruled the school with an iron fist. From being a pretty girl with good grades and a sweet heart, she'd become the ultimate mean girl. And Noah, in his small corner of the school, fell in with the other outcasts - but it meant he finally had friends, a change he held on to for dear life. It didn't mean he wasn't skipping class, though. It didn't mean he wasn't ending up in the principal's office with bruises, cuts, bumps.

And every time he did, another kid would show up soon after with the fear of tall blondes now pummeled into their very base DNA.

In the end, they were both ruled problem children, though even school staff was afraid to take disciplinary action on Devon Sykes(rumours told of an instance of a boy harassing Noah, insisting he was adopted, so Devon went down to their house to seduce the boy's mom and tear their family apart. School administrators, too, lived in fear of Devon Sykes).

While juvie might be more fitting for Blonde Serial Bully Devon, Deborah and Marcus saw fit to send them both to New Dawn together. As parents, all they ever saw were school reports, bruised knuckles, swollen lips. If they couldn't decide which kid was worse, they'd have to send them both.

Growing up, Carter faced a multitude of challenges. Abandoned at a tender age by his parents due to their drug addiction, he found himself living under his grandmother's care. Due to the abandonment of his parents, he often felt neglected and isolated. The absence of emotional support led him to gravitate towards darker thoughts and unconventional outlets for releasing his pent-up frustrations.

Carter's fascination with fire began innocently enough, sparked by a brief experiment lighting candles. These small flames unexpectedly captured his attention, providing a temporary escape from his inner turmoil. This newfound form of self-expression ignited something deeper within him, a feeling of power and control he had never experienced before.

With each encounter, fascination turned into obsession. Fire became Carter's way of reclaiming a sense of control over his chaotic life. The thrill he felt when watching the flames dance and consume was intoxicating, offering temporary solace to his pain.

As he reached adolescence, social isolation, struggles at school, and a lack of understanding from those around him left Carter feeling disconnected and misunderstood. Fire offered him a sense of control and power, emotions he had yearned for but couldn't find elsewhere.

Unbeknownst to his grandmother, who showered him with unconditional love, Carter began experimenting with increasingly dangerous acts of pyromania.

His most serious crimes:

Carter has set several forest fires near the town where he lives over the course of a few months and was recently caught in the act by forest rangers.

How he feels about attending:

One thing is certain: his obsession is devouring him. The fact that he could harm others and worry his grandmother fills him with guilt. So while he's not too keen on being among his peers, he hopes the camp can help him.

Other facts:

-Music is his best friend, it makes him feel less alone and distracts him from his inner demons.

-He knows how to play the guitar.

-He has a beautiful voice but never sings in front of others.

-Carter is introverted and tends to keep everything inside but perhaps with the right people he will be able to open up.

-He hates drugs and doesn't understand those who use them.
