Dear everyone,

My name is Penelope Amber Clark and this is my last day on Earth.

I used to be an assistant to a researcher, a man who was killed in the recent accident in Lab 8. I know that you’ve heard about it. Word tends to spread around this place. And you must know who I’m talking about. Dr. Stephen Jacobs.

Just writing his name hurts. I can still remember his screams, their screams as that damned torture device worked and worked and worked on their bodies.

God.

You haven’t heard the sound of someone’s head being turned inside out. You haven’t seen nerves being bled from someone’s nose. You haven’t been in Her presence, whoever or whatever She is. Luke was. And I doubt he’ll ever be the same again.

I’ve read the note they found in his cell. It changed my mind on a lot of things, mostly about God and death and life. I was never really religious. I just couldn’t believe in an entity that rational thinking was incapable of explaining. But last night, as I read over his words of denouncement, his rambling, I found another reason to kill myself.

I blame myself for not being in the lab when it happened. I could have stopped them from messing with God. From opening the gate to such chaotic madness.

Or maybe, I could’ve stood by. I could’ve just been deprogrammed alongside them.

And not here.

Not empty.

You shouldn’t have to read through this.

I’m sorry.

I’m done.

Don’t come looking for me, because I’ll be nowhere.

Tell Parker that it was a success.

The CSIGate is one step closer to being completed.

Even if Jacobs and Shelley had to die in the process.

Even if it had required their sacrifice.

I’m going to join them in the Static now.
