One of the first real pieces I made around 5 years ago. I had learnt to throw a few months previously @thekilnrooms under the excellent guidance of @charlottemcleishceramics and had become obsessed by the work of @mikedoddpottery and @philrogerspottery I had just got Phils ‘Ash glaze’ book and with a good deal of help from my mentor Roland Austin I figured out how to make a crude ash glaze for an electric kiln. I had even worked out a way of creating fake reduction and flame marks on the clay by mixing a weak ash mix with water and blowing it on the pots with a diffuser. I joined the studio @parademewspottery and @justinpagepottery had just taught me how to fire a kiln. I cannot explain the joy and motivation this little pot gave me when it popped out of the kiln. It’s one of the only pieces of my own work that I have kept, it’s pretty crude, a total rip off of Mike and Phils work and I hide it away on a shelf so only I can see it but it signalled a monumental moment in my life when everything changed.
