@Regrann from @oldschoolhip_hop - Happy 53rd birthday to The Ruler, Slick Rick. Born in London, raised in The Bronx, Slick Rick would rise to fame first as a founder/member of The Kangol Crew then later joined the Get Fresh Crew with Doug E. Fresh. Slick Rick would release his solo debut LP, The Great Adventures of Slick Rick in 1988 which not only was classic but spawned the storytelling sub-genre of Hip-Hop. He would subsequently go to jail in 1990 after his former bodyguard/first cousin, Mark Plummer attempted to extort the artist and made threats on his life, Slick Rick rolled up on him after he caught him in his neighborhood and injured him and a bystander, Slick Rick was sentenced to five years and was out of prison in 1997. Now when it comes to Hip-Hop one thing is for certain, it would not be the same without Slick Rick, though he is the godfather of storytelling his music influenced the likes of Nas and many others, now my man @80s_dopehouse (FOLLOW) brought up a great debate post because when storytelling comes down to it Slick is the creator but I definitely feel artist like Scarface, Kool G Rap and GhostFace Killah really took the subgenre to new heights. Salute to @therulernyc for his influence in Rap and Hip-Hop. I Shouldn't Have Done It by Slick Rick. #happybirthday #53 #thekangolcrew #getfreshcrew #slickrick #ishouldnthavedoneit #therulersback #legends #greatestofalltime #realhiphop #oldschool4life #oldschoolhiphop4life - #regrann
