ISL 2023-24: Vikram Partap s Hat-trick Seals Emphatic Win For Mumbai City FC
ISL League Winners Shield: Vikram Partap Singh scored a fine hat-trick as Mumbai City FC outplayed NorthEast United FC 4-1 at the Mumbai Football Arena (MFA) to go up to 39 points and strengthen their position at the top of the points table in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 here on Tuesday. Vikram Singh struck the back of the net in the third, 10th and 80th minutes to become only the sixth Indian to notch a hat-trick in the ISL, and the second youngest Indian to do so in the league after Kiyan Nassiri Giri’s feat against East Bengal FC in January 2022. It was a dominant show put up by Mumbai City FC, who registered their fourth victory in their last six matches to further their formidable run towards retaining their ISL League Winners Shield title. The Islanders held a firm grip over the proceedings throughout the 90 minutes, with Vikram ensuring that the home team pushed the Highlanders back consistently across the entirety of the match. The 22-year-old first hit the ball past NorthEast United FC goalkeeper Gurmeet Singh thanks to Dutch midfielder Yoell van Nieff. Keen to assert their gameplay from early on, van Nieff caught the Highlanders aback with a swirling delivery inside the box that lobbed past their defence and was received and hammered home by an alert Vikram in front of the goal. Vikram outwitted the NEUFC defence in the box on Tuesday night, sniffing opportunities consistently and drilling deliveries home with impeccable finesse. He was helped with an equally industrious frontline. Bipin Singh teased the NorthEast United FC backline by shooting fiercely with his left foot, but the shot could only rattle and rebound off the crossbar. The ball couldn’t make its way past Vikram though, who jumped upon the chance and capitalised on it with an easy tap-in to double their lead. His chance to secure the hat-trick in the first half didn’t materialise, as Redeem Tlang fouled Akash Mishra inside the 18-yard box in the added time of the opening essay of the match. Van Nieff assumed responsibility from the spot and cleanly slotted the ball into the left side of Gurmeet to help Mumbai City FC head into the half-time break with a 3-0 lead for only the fourth time in the last 10 years of the ISL. Vikram rounded off his hat-trick with a shot that demonstrated his striking instincts to the core in the 80th minute though, with a dazzling Lallianzuala Chhangte barging into the NorthEast United FC box and squaring up an assist that was slotted into the goal by a buoyant Vikram. A minute before that, the visitors had salvaged some pride with Jithin M.S. scoring through a sweet strike off an assist by Gani Nigam. However, Mumbai City FC responded immediately through the counter which resulted in Vikram’s hat-trick. NorthEast United FC is now placed ninth in the standings, with 20 points from 19 games and their playoff qualification chances took a big hit. To make matters worse, youngster Parthib Gogoi was sent off with a red card in the added time of the second half. Mumbai City FC will next play Hyderabad FC on April 1 while NorthEast United FC return to action against Kerala Blasters FC on April 6. Read the full article

Rare David Tennant audios: another Did He or Didn't He? in The Tragedy of Two....whatsits?
I've talked about David's rarer audio work before (referring to the magical Tuesdays & Sundays, which I've covered earlier) but today I thought I'd switch gears and talk about one of the very few audio works of his I don't have and would love to find. This particular one is special because I've never seen it listed on any forum as an audio David ever did. I popped over to see if it was listed at the venerable David Tennant fan site and nope, they don't have it listed. Neither does VK's usually stellar David Tennant Asylum.
But he did it.
Before continuing, I need to first mention dramatist and author Jane Rogers. Rogers wrote the book The Island and worked on its radio adaptation in 2002. She also adapted The Beach of Falesa and The Ebb Tide from Terror in the South Seas by Robert Louis Stevenson. The Island was broadcast 22 Oct 2002 on BBC Radio 4 as the Radio 4 Friday Play, and the Stevenson duo was broadcast in Dec 2016 on BBC Radio 4. David has played roles in all of these audio plays.
Let’s keep Jane in mind for now, shall we? For here is where my journey began.
I first learned about this mystery audio's existence years ago from David's profile in the programme for his 1999 play Vassa. Listed among his radio credits was a play called The Tragedy Of Two Virtues.
WELL.
Knowing for certain I'd never seen this play listed elsewhere in his credits, I began to hunt. During the few years of frustrating on again and off again searching which followed I saw the words "Two Ambitions" pop up now and again. I kept dismissing this as a 'close-but-no-cigar' kind of thing - until finally I didn't, and started taking an alternate possibility more seriously. Perhaps the programme had just mis-named the thing?
To that end I did some reading on Hardy's A Tragedy of Two Ambitions. The story is about two brothers, Joshua and Cornelius Halborough, who want to escape from their humble surroundings and get away from the alcoholic, irresponsible father who threatens to destroy everything they've worked for. If you're interested, you can read further details about the plot here.
I also needed to narrow down the date when David might've done this audio, so I went back to the programme it had been mentioned in - the Jan 1999 Vassa programme. It was there, but it wasn’t in any published programmes from David's previous play (Real Inspector Hound/Black Comedy, Apr to Oct 1998). That helped me place the audio's possible production date between Oct 1998 and Jan 1999.
But this possible late 1990s time frame worried me. After 2000, the BBC policy was to archive all "performance programmes" on CD, so (theoretically) plays after that date should exist in the BBC archive. But before then? Oh boy. Well over 90% of broadcast radio plays were not kept. Ughhhh!
But onwards, research-wise. I dove into the BBC Genome Project to see if an audio production called The Tragedy of Two Ambitions fell in that time frame, and lo and behold it had! But it wasn't the full court press "AH HA!" moment I'd hoped; while David's name wasn't listed in its entry, it did give me the dramatist's name. So I determined it was best to just go to the source and ask.
(Re)enter Jane Rogers.
When I finally managed to contact her, my first question to her was, “Was a young David Tennant one of the cast members in the piece? I ask because he did an elusive audio in the same time frame that's been (possibly) mislabeled A Tragedy of Two Virtues, and I suspect your piece might be the correct title?”
Initially she told me she wasn't at all sure he was in it, because her first recollection of meeting David was for the audio adaptation of The Island. She told me, "As far as I remember, the first time I met David Tennant was when he played Callum in my radio drama The Island, adapted from my own novel. He was a young and relatively unknown actor at that point, and was absolutely brilliant. As, of course, he has continued to be!"
But later, after she found her script for the play, she was able to confirm for me that David was indeed a cast member in the audio - a fact which surprised and delighted her as much as it did me. Rogers said David played the lead part of Joshua, and the play had been recorded on 21 Nov 1998. And here's a cool story: she said the fact it was David had probably slipped her mind because the play was recorded in West Country accents, and she strongly associated David with his natural Scottish accent. West Country, huh? Now that's an accent I'd like to hear him do!
A Tragedy of Two Ambitions was broadcast on 7 Dec 1998 as the fourth of four episodes of Life's Little Ironies, a BBC Radio 4 Afternoon Play. It was 45 minutes in length. Other cast members were Alex Lowe, Abigail Docherty, Anthony Jackson, Susan Brown, and Charlie Simpson. Its producer was Clive Brill for Watchmaker Productions, and it was recorded at The Soundhouse in Shepherds Bush, London.
It's an audio play that I would dearly love to have in my collection. I've searched high and low. Unless someone recorded it back in 1998 and saved it, it's likely gone. But stranger things have happened. After all, old DW episodes are still being found, right?
Now - if you've stuck with me this long, I've got a goody to tell. But it's not about The Tragedy Of Two Ambitions - it's about The Island (and if you haven't listened to that play go forth and do it! It's a lovely piece). Rogers told me The Island was recorded on the Isle of Skye because with a small cast, it was often cheaper to record on location than rent a studio in London. The cast stayed at the Kinloch Lodge and recorded in the hotel and on a small private beach. But recording on location meant the cast couldn't access fancy sound effects, so sound effects were done on the fly. While on that private beach, Rogers said, the cast noticed a ruined rowing boat half-full of water. David splashed around in it when they needed watery effects. So when you listen to the play and you hear splashing water, that's our dear David!
And thus ends my story of the mystery of The Tragedy Of Two Ambitions (and the tiny treat of a behind-the-scenes story about The Island).
If anyone can find that audio, contact me. I beg of you!

The Island (2005) Monday 7/10
A fully surveilled compound hosts hives of sexiled immature tube-born THX’r types– all dressed in white and dreaming of winning the special lottery. But will Jordan Two Delta actually get to escape the invasive technocracy, bypass a contaminated 2019 Earth and retire on the luscious Island? Composed of scraps and pieces from every sci-fi dystopian flick ever, The Island continually fails upward into b-movie cringe-binge with big budget actors, idiotic product placement, weird americana patriotic stuff and all of the explosions one would expect in a Michael Bay summer bummer bust. Featuring unnecessary future vehicles, July 1019, organ harvesting, nano-spider-bots, Black Widow Johansson, Michael Green Mile Guy, Ewan Mark Renton, Sean Dies Bean, Steve Seymour Buscemi, Ethan Neelix Phillips & Djimon Amistad Hounsou. Directed by a Transformer and edited profusely.

THE ISLAND
Cragg's Island: An island south of the red Obelisk; the presence of raptors and the occasional therizinosaurus can make a trek turn sour at a moment's notice. It has a large rock and cliff formation to the south of the Island, a popular spot for training or finding flyers.
Crater Lake: Also known as Hidden Lake, Hidden Valley, or The Oasis, this little peaceful haven in the north was the former home of the Beast Queen, Mei Yin.
Damien's Atoll: Also known as: South Haven, Southern Island, The Lone Island, or Herbivore Island. An island where no predators seem to spawn on land. A good spot for hunting brontosaurus and leedsichthys. Formerly the Painted Sharks territory; it has been long since abandoned since their destruction.
Dead Island: Known colloquially as Carnivore Island, Carno Island, or Hell Island, this island in the north east has a exceptionally high amount of carnivores present. It is said to be the best place to tame rexes.
Eastern Forest: Home of the Iron Brotherhood and the Green Obelisk, this forest is cut with the Eastern Plains. With a bounty of herbivores and some carnivores, it makes it a popular settlement region. Provided one makes sure to take care at night to avoid a troodon attack.
Eastern Plains: Less forested region inside of the Eastern Forest, cut deep by the river, leaving the plains to become cliffs at the riverside.
The Footpaw: West of the Southern Islets, this small island is a common place to find new Survivors. With very minimal carnivores and basic resources, means it is popular place for easy prey, and a safe harbor for sea-faring types in the Southwest. There are ruins of a Nova Legio outpost as well.
Frigid Plains: This is lowlands around Whitesky Peak. Rich in mammoth and wooly rhino, but also of direwolves. Home of the Howling Wolves Clan.
Grand Hills: This hilly land surrounding the volcano is rich with metal-- and predators. This is the furthest most Survivors will go. Only the foolish or the well-prepared attempt to scale the volcano. On very are occasions you may be able to find giganotosaurus or carcharodontosaurus-- the ARK's largest predators-- in this region.
The Maw: A rocky, hilly land near the base of the Frozen Tooth. A favorite hunting spot for allosaurus and raptor packs, it not a place you'd want to settle permanently without defenses. The Sonnenrad established their camp between the Maw and the Grand Hills.
Northeast Shores: A deciduous beach that often serves as a landing point for visits to the Dead Island. Rexes can occasionally be found on this shore. Common threats are dilophosaurs on the shores, megalodons in the water.
The Redwoods: With thylacoleos in the trees, packs of compie, raptors, allosaurus, carnotaurus, and direbears on the ground, the Redwoods are dangerous place to traverse. Those who live in the region build their homes in the trees. The tribe of Alasie and the Red Hawks settle there, and ruins of Rockwell Manor lay crumbling near its mountain. Despite the risks it is worth the trek for good lumber and resin made from the tree's sap.
Smuggler's Path: A deep ravine wedged between three mountains, it is a very common location for mid to large herbivores like brontosaurus, ankylosaurs, and stegosaurus. Not particularly a common settlement region, but it is a small respite from the swamps to the south and predators of the north.
Southern Islets: Left mostly unpopulated after the New Legion, the Southern Islets have been a haven for fresh survivors and neutral parties. Notable places are Canon's Watch, home of the Stargazers, and Stonehenge A natural rock formation used as neutral meeting grounds or wayfinding in the South. Raptors, dilophosaurs, and megalodons are the biggest threats; with the occasional spinosaurus or therizinosaurus unexpectedly wandering south.
Southeastern Shores: The swamps to the north and many predators lurking on and off the shore makes it an tough place to settle, if you don't mind the occasional hunt, then it's a perfect place to settle. Drayo's Cove is a popular port for seafaring Survivors who want access to the deeper regions. Dilophosaurs and terror
Southern Jungle: Location of the Red Obelisk, and territory of the Golden Arrows. Hugged by the swamps, raptors and therizinos make it one of the more dangerous places in the south to live.
Western Approach: Rocky, more deciduous region between the northern tundra and southern jungle. Its terraces and mesas give great views of the coast, but not much is worth noting.
Western Coast: The peaceful shoreline of the west is deceptive; like the eastern shore dilophosaurs are known to prowl frequently, with some of the larger creatures making occasional appearances. A good place for those who are a little more knowledgeable in the ways of the Island.
Western Plains: A plateau south of Whitesky Peak, filled with predators. Despite this, it is said to be a good place to stage for a Volcano expedition-- not that any have been successful so far.
Winter's Mouth: The lowlands surrounding the Frozen Fang, rife with mammals, but also yutyrannus. It is a known range for the giganotosaurus.
The Writhing Swamps: A very dangerous part of the island, few wish to stay for long. For the unprepared adventurer, the many Titanoboas, crocs, and Leeches can end a life very quickly. Notable places are the ruins of the Blackthumbs' settlement, after their destruction at the hands of the New Legion and the Gulch of Lamentation, A large mangrove lagoon. Spinosaurs are found in the eastern part near the Gulch. Paraceratherium are common here.
CAVES
Cavern of Lost Hope: A very dangerous deep sea cave. Some dive for resources, others to catch the deep sea fauna that use the cave as a haven.
Cavern of Lost Faith: A deep sea cave that is is also used for resources and taming. It has a significantly sized area not filled with water, allowing people to camp for a long term harvesting operation.
Central Cave: A cave near the Volcano, providing the north with access to invertebrates and their chitin or bats.
Lava Cave: Off the Southeast Shores, this cave go down to the depths of the island. Exposed lava flows and some need to climb, gives a challenge for cave crawlers. Occasionally a habitation spot for megalosaurus and megalnaia.
Lower South Cave: The "easiest" cave on the island, perfect for the beginner spelunker. Located in the Southern Islets, it is a favored location for chitin farming or invertebrate taming. Occasionally megalosaurus and megalania can be found nesting in the cave.
Northeast Cave: Located on Dead Island, this is a cave for the more experienced spelunkers, and those unafraid of rappelling up or down due to it's steep cliffs and thin pathways. A good place to farm megalania, or tame alongside megalosaurus provided you can get them back up to the surface.
Northwest Cave: On a cliff facing the northernmost cave, it is unknow as to why anyone would want to delve into the depths. Extremely cold, and filled with pitfalls, there are better places to get resources in the south.
Snow Cave: The most difficult of the caves. Extreme freezing temperatures, and needing to go into the water to get through some parts, it has the added trouble of many large mammals using the cave as their home. However, it is the only place to hunt or tame the "Yeti", and the polar direbear, rare population of direbear and gigantopithecus with leucism.
Swamp Cave: Nestled in the Redwoods, this hot, swampy and filled with gas, cave is a challenge. The only thing going for it is megalania nests. Staying inside the cave for an extended period will kill you, unless you have protective equipment and/or air.
Tek Cave: In the depths of the volcano lies the Tek Cave, and the lift to the Overseer. Any one who has seen inside has never come back. Inside it is chock full of predators and lava, and not an easy trek to the lift dais.
Upper South Cave: In the north part of the Southern Islets, this cave has some underwater elements, if you're looking for that thrills. Another place to find megalania and magalosaurus.
MOUNTAINS
Far's Peak: A common rex haunt, carnotaurus and the occasional spinosaurus from the south may find itself near the base of the mountain. It's relatively warmer climate compared to the rest.
Frozen Tooth: The smaller of the twin mountains rich in metal, but rife with predators.
Frozen Fang: The larger of the two mountains, good resources but the snow provides a challenge.
Red Peak: A minor mountain in the Redwoods, it is said Rockwell built a manor nearby.
Throat of Flame: The Island's singular volcano. Inside lies the Tek Cave.
Whitesky Peak: Location of the Blue Obelisk.
