Sir Jackie Stewart is one of Britain’s all time great sporting personalities, winning three Formula 1 World Championships, and 27 Grand Prix, ranking him as one of the ten greatest racing drivers of all time. From 1964-73, the “Flying Scot,” in his trademark tartan helmet, established a race-win record that remained unbroken in F1 for fourteen years. He was also an accomplished marksman, winning British, Scottish, Irish, Welsh, and English trap shooting championships between 1959-62. Cars and racing were his true passions though, and after failing to make the 1960 British Olympic shooting team, his focus shifted to racing exclusively. A near-death accident in the 1966 Belgium Grand Prix led Stewart to becoming the sports leading safety campaigner.
