soooo it’s accidentally been many months since my last rec list... i just. didn’t read much for a good while because of ~life~ BUT here i am back on my bs so lets just get into it i guess :D

Peter Parker thinks he has everything figured out. Where he can eat, sleep and make a little bit of money. What he needs to do in order to continue attending Midtown High and being Queen’s friendly neighborhood Spider-man. How to keep his entire situation under wraps and most importantly, who he can trust.

Then, along comes Tony Stark with an offer he can’t refuse. The plan is to remain professional, to not get too close to the Stark-Rogers’ family. Not getting comfortable means not slipping up and saying anything that he can’t take back.

...but for Peter- things rarely go as planned...

yall, i’m a sucker for a homeless peter fic and this one DOES NOT disappoint! i freaking love it! ned is the awesomest of awesome bros, tony and steve are adorable, and of course tony and peter are absolutely everything. the characterisations are on point, its great writing, 10/10 would recommend again

okay this fic is hilarious and absolutely cracks me up every time. the writing is just so free? i guess that’s the best way to describe it, and it honestly couldn’t be better. add that to an interesting plot and i’m hooked

A Peter Parker Problem by @spagbol99

summary

Peter Parker was back from the dead. At least that is what everybody told him. He'd been snapped out of existence until some sort of time travel and an active death wish by his mentor had saved him and the universe. Just your average sort of life for a 16 year old from Queens.

Peter comes back to find May has a husband and a kid. A new family he has to fit into. But he has done it before, he can do it again.

The only thing that feels solid is Tony: the Blip and fatherhood have mellowed him and Peter loves the bond they have now. He knows Tony would be there for him through anything. But Tony needs to focus on his own recovery - not small time Peter Parker problems. When things at home take a turn for the worse, Peter decides that he'll handle it himself. He is Spider-man. He's been to space and fought aliens. He can get through anything. After all, if May is happy, he is happy, right? Right?

this fic is EVERYTHING! so much angst but it’s all balanced out with the perfect amount of fluff throughout. i love it so much! peter and tony’s relationship is amazingly done, as well as his relationships with may and the other avengers. i just. love it so freaking much and can’t recommend it enough

December 2020 Fic Recs!

Summary

Tony had not signed up for this.

He hadn’t meant to kill the guy in the Santa suit. He’d gotten startled, he’d yelled, then the other guy got startled and slipped and then just disappeared.

Now he was wearing the guy’s suit, driving the guy’s sleigh (driven by actual freaking reindeer), with his 8-year-old son in the passenger seat, delivering Christmas presents like he really was Santa.

He really needed to to learn how to say no to Peter’s puppy dog eyes.

(Or the Irondad Santa Claus AU nobody asked for that I’m giving anyway)

Secret Sugarplum Spiderling by @yes-i-am-happyaspie​

Summary

Peter has been taking ballet for nearly as long as he can remember and all of his hard work has finally paid off. He's been cast as the Cavelier to the Sugarplum Fairy in his Performing Arts School's production of The Nutcracker. It's a big deal and it's going to take up a good bit of time but... he's just not sure he's ready for his mentor to know about that particular hobby just yet.

All he has to do is show up at the studio on time, keep his grades up, make sure to see Tony on a regular enough basis that he doesn't worry and try to squeeze in some patrolling in between. It's that simple. Right?

pete’s a ballet dancer and if you’re not already sold than i don’t know what will. again, the fluff and irondad bonding is so cute plus may there too which is always a huge bonus! the last chapter especially is pure fluff and i love it so so much!

The Subjectiveness of Protectiveness also by @yes-i-am-happyaspie​

Summary

When Peter is injured outside of his suit by a woman who has a grudge against Iron Man and has come to the conclusion that he's Tony Stark's son, he decides that his best course of action is to not tell anyone. He doesn't want May to worry but more than anything he doesn't want his mentor to feel guilty about it. Especially when the threat has already been taken care of and he has a healing factor. However, when things don't go as planned he ends up finding himself in a situation that leaves him with no choice but to reveal what he's been hiding. Tony is not impressed.

while their other fic brings the fluff, this one brings the ANGST. it’s basically what is says on the tin, pete gets badly hurt and doesn’t want to bother anyone with it... until things go downhill. it’s a great read, super angsty, super fun, i highly reccommend!

A Christmas Carol by @i-am-irondad​

Summary

On Christmas Eve night, Tony is lost in his own head, still struggling to deal with Peter’s death.

A message is sent to him through his father, Howard Stark, and their ex-business partner, Obadiah Stane - they warn him that three spirits will visit him before sunrise.

The ghosts take Tony on a journey through the past, present, and future.

yall it’s so gooood! i’m sure you’re all familiar with a christmas carol, and if not this is a great way to get to know it! it was so exciting to see who the ghosts turned out to be, and also to see what they showed tony. there were plenty of tears reading this, and just as many smiles! the ending is just awesome!

Monthly Fic Recs!

Hey! I decided to try a thing where I just share the fics I’ve read this month that I love and if I remember I’ll do it next month too.��Without further ado, let’s just jump right in!

Like Father, Like Son by @an-odd-idea​​ 

Summary

- 48 hours to build a reactor. More accurately, 48 hours to talk Peter through building a reactor. And Tony is chained on the other side of the room. -

Y’all, there are simply not the words to describe how good this fic is. I cannot recommend reading it enough! Their writing is so well done that it literally feels like you’re inside Tony’s head. Seriously, read this one, it’s awesome

Okay, maybe I’m slightly cheating by recing the entire series, but come on. They’re GOOD! Whumptober fics involving the entire Ironfam, they’re dramatic, they’re angsty, they’re all-round awesome

Summary

- Tony wakes up in a casket. Buried, with no idea who put him there or why. With no way to get out or call for help, the only thing to do is wait. -

You really feel for Tony in this one, trapped and unable to move while he slowly goes crazy, all the while trying to hold it together. Characterisations are on point. I highly recommend!

The Time Traveler’s Mentor also by @i-am-irondad​

Summary

- Peter Parker inherited a rare trait from his father, he can uncontrollably drift, back and forth, through time. Hand-in-hand, with his double life, as New York’s Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man, his life is one chaotic event on top of another.  Everything changes, when his mentor, Tony Stark, discovers the truth about his time-traveling abilities. -

Time travel fics are always fun but this one goes the extra mile. So many cool twists and turns along the way, had me on the edge of my metaphorical seat right from the get go! The last three chapters are some of the most awesome stuff I’ve ever read, I suggest giving this one a go!

Free Like a Broken Heart by @notaparty-trick

Summary

- Tony sat before the parole committee and spouted the same old bullshit he’d been spouting for sixteen years. It was pointless; Stane was going to keep him in the Raft until he breathed his last, whatever he said to the panel. Most likely everyone in that room had been paid off. 

It depressed Tony to think of that, and it was all inevitable anyway, so he sat back and enjoyed the quiet of the room until it was punctuated by the thump of a stamp. REJECTED.

When Tony first laid eyes on Peter Parker, he was forty-five, the kid was eighteen, and Tony bet two packs of cigarettes on him breaking down that very night. “Look at him. Still gangly. He’ll drop like a fly.” Maybe it wasn’t nice. But it was just what happened. You might as well have bet on it. --- It's 1952. Tony Stark is 16 years into a life sentence at the Raft when he meets Peter Parker, a new arrival who changes things at the prison for good with his unbridled, enchanting capacity for hope in a place full of hopelessness. - 

I didn’t know I needed an Irondad Shawshank Redemption fic until I started reading this but man I’m so glad it exists! Tony and Peter’s relationship in this is just amazing, and the suspense the author builds is awesome, and it’s ends wonderfully. Plus it features some really cool poetry so that’s even better. Heed the warnings, but I can’t recommend it enough!

November 2020 Fic Recs!

I’m back with another month of fics! The majority are Comfortember fics this month, anyway, on with the recs!

You Will Be Found - by @baloobird

Summary

- Today is going to be a good day and here’s why:

Tony Stark is officially adopting Peter Parker.

He’s damn near shaking as he signs the adoption papers, causing his signature to be sloppier than usual but as long as it gets processed, he doesn’t give a shit what it looks like.

The man can feel his almost-kid bouncing next to him, knees acting like bobbleheads and his sneakers’ taps echo through the courthouse as he’s jostling his backpack.

But not with dread by any means. -

Review

Y’all this fic is so fluffy and cute! It features Tony being just the best dad to Peter, their relationship is seriously well done - especially their banter! The author weaves in more angsty scenes with the comfort beautifully, plus they end up adopting a cat which is super cute <3 It’s a Skip fic (focused on the recovery, though) so heed the warnings, but it’s a great read!

What is Real (A Comfortember Fic) by @yes-i-am-happyaspie​

Summary

- For weeks Tony searched for Peter but once he finally has his adopted son back in his arms he realizes how long of a road they have ahead of them.

Or:

After being kidnapped and subsequently mentally tormented Peter is left feeling anxious and afraid. Tony is there, as always, to help him pick himself up again. -

Review

Another cute and fluffy one and I love it! Tony is absolutely awesome in this fic, and the author’s writing is amazing as a whole. They really focus on Peter’s recovery and Tony helping him through it with a mix of angsty and fluffy scenes, plus lots of hugs and platonic kisses which is exactly my jam so big thanks for that XD It’s a really good one y’all, give it a read!

Next Time You Ride With Me, We’re Here, Italian Gummy Bears, Under the Clouds all by @an-odd-idea

Review

Um, I love them? Like so much? Next Time You Ride With Me is a much better version of a scene from the Iron Man novelisation where Rhodey thinks the arc reactor is a bomb and it’s so sweet. Rhodey’s initial panic is amazing, and then when they kinda break down and just hug? Yeah, I melted at that point. Italian Gummy Bears is about Ned being scared of flying and Peter just being an awesome bro and helping him out in the cutest ways possible. Under the Clouds is a couple of snapshots at post-apocalyptic Irondad where Peter and Tony are basically just being the best father and son imaginable

So yeah, please check this lot out too. I know it’s kinda cheaty having four-in-one but they’re nice and short so I think it’s allowed still. (Also if anyone has more post-apocalyptic AU’s they wanna rec I am all here for it!)

If They Knew All About You by @mshermia

Summary

- Tony Stark had lost his son when he was only 2 years old, stolen away in broad daylight with nobody the wiser of what exactly happened. Years later, Tony has just made it through the disaster with Ultron. He is trying to keep himself and the team together but relationships are strained and tempers are running high.

Then a random turn of events leads to his path crossing with that of a particular vigilante. They are strangers to each other, or so they think.

Peter Parker is on top of the world. After a few shitty years, losing his parents and then losing his Uncle, things are finally looking up. Sure he lives in a crappy little apartment with his Aunt but he might have just found his mission in life.

This is an AU story obvious by some of the tags. I'm starting out a few weeks after Age of Ultron took place. Civil War will be a thing.

Review

Just a disclaimer, I haven’t finished it yet. This one’s long and still being updated (I’ll let y’all know when it’s complete ‘cause I know some people don’t like starting unfinished fics) But, it’s so, so good. The author manages to write like they’re actually inside both Tony and Peter’s minds and it’s simply amazing. I’m so here for the slow burn, and can’t wait to get to the reveal! Check it out! (And thanks @lbigreyhound13​ for recing this to me, I’m getting through them!)
