" okay, if you’re so good at this shit, tell me, " rowan starts after a sip of her beer, big eyes, bright in the light of the fire, scan their surroundings. she tries to see what maya sees in people, what brings her to the conclusions she’d so freely shared these past few days, but the only thing rowan had managed, every time, is a level of bewilderment and amusement that leaves her scratching the back of her head with an awkward, half-smile plastered on her face. " according to you, who among that group— " their finger points discreetly to a gathering of more or less nine people around their age. she knows how it feels to be signaled so openly —and it is a sensation she once promised would never inflict on someone else—, so despite her aloof behavior, she’s also tactful and swift in her gesture. " —is most likely to be a murderer. and why. you have five minutes to pitch your case. "

Kitty gave little time to the hurrah that surrounded the ongoings of Helltown, or at least, that was what she told everyone. With a heart-bleeding connection of her own concerning her brother’s sudden and unexplained disappearance, Kitty had spent the aftermath obsessively collecting any kind of evidence that she could get her hands on whenever she was afforded the time to spare. Alas, though she liked to distance herself from the collected hysteria that surrounded certain areas of town, whenever she was stretched thin by the Motel’s long hours cleaning up after hedonistic spills in their dirty, unclean rooms that were victims to desperate fucks who stayed for the cheap roof over their heads, Kitty had taken to listening to ‘The Devil You Know’ before she knew what she was doing, evidently following each and every episode with the keenness of a freakin’ fan. So, she had heard Maya Prescott before she had seen her on that Summer Solstice, causing the cleaner to twist her head over her shoulder in order to find the voice of whom she twinned with the smell of sweat and other unpleasant things: wait, this was her freakin’ evening off, the least she could do was…
Caught off guard, Kitty wrinkled her nose with disdain. “Shit, I bet you’re having a field day!”

Evelyn had been somewhat isolated since the night of pageantry, lost in the elongated halls of her faith; it was safe to assume that she had begun to lose her way. A Treasurer of the Church with a bounty on her back, she had kept herself to herself between long nights trying to subdue the wild imagination of her young children, for though the two youngest still wished for the maternal warmth that only she could offer, the older two had long since grown tired. With one already away at college (an evolution that had since been a blessing in disguise), the second oldest had begun that aching process of rebellion and isolation which left Evelyn feeling all but useless.
When she and Emilio had met in that coffee shop, she had been nursing a long gone cold coffee with her son, Samson Jr, on her knee — a boy aged six years old, he looked undeniably like his father the traitor, a Hernandez if there ever was one. She looked at Emilio with silent agony before her face transitioned into small talk pleasantries. “Emilio… hi, uh yeah, how are you? Come sit, can I get you anything?” She asked, pushing back her long red hair which the child had previously been tangling around his fist.

" oh uh . . . evelyn, hi, " emilio greated the woman, smiling a bit tightly at her, trying to get a read on the other's sorrowful expression as he crossed paths with her on his way out of the coffee shop, spotting her on her own at a table. after everything that had gone down at the bonfire, with her husband's name being branded with the moniker of "traitor" amongst other things, he could feel the weight of the woman's agony and stress without even needing to ask if it was there.
it had weighed on him too . . . but his partner hadn't been thrown into a fire; even if it was all metaphorical. " you uh . . . hangin' in there alright ?? "

Audrey was still wandering around, sunglasses on the bridge of her nose as the sun inched it's way closer to the horizon. Sunset would be on them soon enough and she had to imagine whatever wild shit was going to happen tonight would happen then. And while she had to assume that, she did actually know that her husband was here somewhere and she wasn't exactly trying to find him just yet. Who she did find was Carter. "Look who it is...shouldn't be surprised to find you here but I'm pretty sure you didn't finish your job today."

The anxiety that had lodged itself beneath her sternum the moment the ominous text had came through had not gone away since that day, but it seemed to swell as June 20th inched closer and closer. Now here, Adeline wished that she could appreciate it, the music, the fire. She wished that she could feel some relief to see such a lively little event, but all she felt was pure dread. "Do you think it's rude?" She found herself asking, bag clutched to her chest as if someone was threatening to rip it out of her hands. She felt like a child, lost in a grocery store. But the last person she wanted to find her washer mother. "To leave... only ten minutes after arriving?"

It should be awkward, shouldn't it? Spending time with an ex, or rather that term was used more loosely than the weight it actually held. Sam can't remember their beginning nor their end, just knows that at some point she entered his life and once it was over she was the one consistent thing he couldn't let go of. Two mismatching puzzles that could fit together if one tried hard enough, but certainly weren't made for each other. He was just grateful that Elodie would still indulge in his company and the places he dragged her too. Slamming the flashlight against his left palm as it began to flicker. It'd be just his luck for this thing to die, especially without extra batteries too. "stupid fucking thing'." sam curses under his breath, letting out a sigh of relief when it produced a steady beam of light again. an abandoned hospital was already creepy, they didn't need the extra ambience if the lights went out too. he wasn't sure why places like this drew him like a moth to a flame but it did. never sure what he was looking for, just knew that it ever came across his path then maybe he'd know then. he looks behind him finding elodie a few paces back, a small smile creep at the edge of his lips. "c'mon now elodie, don't want you to get lost now, lest you be another face on a missing persons poster."

"I've been talking to some guys down at Believe it or Rot -- did you hear the Mayor might actually just be a lizard in a man suit?" Or three mice inside of a trench coat; Jude would have repeated a litany of ill-gotten phrases, just to witness his friend menace a smile upon his lips. The emptiness of EBS discomposed him that day, the worn walls harboring no clamorous voices, no slew of worn out of towners waving for another cup of coffee. Helltown's ebs and flows were no reason for disconcertion -- but a hollowness permeated, slowly transforming the most familiar of haunts into foreign territory. Jude visibly shivered, his hands still gripping his cup of coffee -- he looked to Tommy, mustering his most charming smile; he'd never had much luck with it, to be frank. "But aside from missing your dazzling smile and needing someone to tell me if my bangs are getting too long, I did bring you here for a reason. Which, I'm hoping the meal I've bought you as a bribe, will be enough to get you to say yes to what I'm about to ask.

At that point in time, Kitty was desperate. Desperate for information, gossip or anything akin to knowledge about the disappearances of the town. For so long, ever since her older brother hadn’t returned from his shift at the Bowling Alley, Kitty had kept what she could to herself and herself alone — maybe it had been selfish, or even protective, but either way with the appearance of a mysterious letter dropped into the small run down house that belonged to her father, Kitty had run out of time on relying on secrecy and hope alone. One of the few people that she believed she could go to was Maya Prescott, someone she had listened to via the podcast and one she had met only hours before she had been faced with blood and gore at the bonfire. Still scarred even by that subject alone, Kitty had tried her best to keep her emotions in check, but with what little she had left, she turned to the hope that maybe, just maybe, Maya would know something she did not. Thumping her fist against her door, Kitty nearly cried out in frustration. “Maya!”

"Hey! Emilio, glad to see you out of that office." Wells grinned, walking towards his fellow professor, clapping a hand on his shoulder, thankful to no longer be wandering around this thing on his own. "What do you think? I still haven't gotten used to this." The festival or the entire town? It was hard to say.

"Emilio," she spoke, not looking at him, her eyes trained upwards as his name fell from her lips. Emotion could not be discerned from neither her expression or the tone of her voice, monotone, almost robotic. Scarlett was waiting, for a hint she would swear she'd been promised in a dream the night before, God finally ending her silence to say anything at all to Scarlett, who was beginning to think she had angered Her somehow. Understandably, she was only mourning as well. "I am pleased to see you made it out of the bonfire."

She was one of his people of interest — the sister of the latest missing victim, how could she not be? Vicente wondered just how much she knew, how many details she held that were useful, even if she didn't know it. It wasn't the first time he'd come to the bar just to watch her, to be friendly enough to become a familiar face, but tonight when he waved Elodie over and placed his order, he attempted to stop her before she could walk away. "How much would I have to tip to buy your company for a moment? Not in a creepy way," he was quick to promise, it was true he wasn't hitting on her... unless she seemed interested, he wasn't against the idea. "I guess that sounds awful, it's just... a hard night for me, I was just hoping for a little conversation."

He shouldn't be surprised, what, with the luck of this damned town. In fact, Uriah found himself thinking he should be grateful that it wasn't worse when he stepped out to find the front driver side tire of his mom's car empty of air, grateful that it hadn't popped while he was in the middle of traffic or spun him into a tree. But not so grateful that while his mother had a jack and a spare, she was missing one of the most important parts. Twisting with his hand seemed to be no use. "Hey, man," Uriah glanced up when he noticed someone walking in his direction, hopeful but not optimistic. "You wouldn't happen to have a lug wrench?"

To say Maggie didn't much care about what happened at the bonfire would have been an understatement. Everyone here was going to burn in the fires of hell anyway, why did it matter if they put themselves there? She hardly noticed anyone else around her these days as they tried to recover from their trauma - something Maggie couldn't care about even if she tried. Or...well, maybe she could give it a shot. Seeing someone sitting on one of the benches outside of a store, she walked over slowly, concern growing on her face without ever reaching her true self. "Are you okay?"

Devi could not believe her luck. She'd been deep in mountains of books for research on the town when none other than Elodie McNeil appeared. Truthfully, it had seemed like the other woman had disappeared or had some kind of break after the fire ( who could blame her ) but this was just great luck. "Hi, hey, you're Elodie, right? Elodie McNeil. I don't think we've met yet, I'm Devi." A miracle they hadn't run into each other considering Maya and her need to try and interview everyone in this town.

She hadn't meant to wander off from Rafael, but Tala was sure he would seek her out soon enough if she stayed put. Which was... hard, when she got bored simply standing around. She wasn't even sure how she found herself throwing axes at targets, hardly hitting the board... until one landed right in the middle. "Did you see that? I did that!" Turning around to show off to the first person she spotted, she was grinning as she added, "Hell yeah, I'm not just a pretty face!"
