Hello, friend! Apologies for bothering you but I had a quick fanfic question and you seem like a friendly person to go to!

So, I just got into writing, but I'm a longtime reader. *However* most of the fics I've read come from AO3, not tumblr. So I'm not "knowledgeable" on how to post work on here, so to speak.

That being said, what are the appropriate tags I should make for a fic? Also, how in the fuck do I make a banner?! I've tried making one for a previous work but I just think it's the wrong size?!?

If you have any answers, I would happily appreciate it 🙏

hello hello!!! i'm honored u decided to come ask me aww 🥺🥺 i will do my best to respond!! (keep in mind tht there rly arent any set technicalities to this, it's just what i do!!)

so of course tag the relationship first i would say. im gna use bkg as an example lmaooo so like 'bakugou x reader'. use both his first name and full name in separate tags (bkg katsuki x reader, katsuki x reader) bc you never know how people will look up certain tags. and since people spell his last name differently also tag that. i think there's a thing where ur post appears in only the first 5 tags u use??? but im not sure if thats legit. id still be wary.

i personally wouldnt tag an x reader fic as simply 'bnha' or anything bc like... the x reader niche is pretty mmm small n unique and i dont think ppl who arent into it wanna see y/n fics in the mha tag LOL but thats just me. keep it to the x reader tags or whatever fic youre writing, be it ship fic or whatevr, it's the same process.

u could also tag it as like 'bakugou imagine' or 'bakugou fluff' or smthn. and you can also create a unique tag for specifically your writing so that people can easily look it up instead of hunting for a masterlist! like you can do, idk '__ writings'. makes it easier when theyre on your blog since they can search for its content

in the case of x reader fics, i'd also use 'bkg x y/n' or 'bkg x you' bc again, never know how people will search for smthn.

and make sure you tag any TWs too! for instance, 'tw blood' or 'cw blood'. its good to use both for people who have the tags blocked!! i also find its nice to insert warnings/mentions at the top of your post! like if the reader is fem or gn, if its an AU, any TWs, if its fluff/angst/hurt, the pairing, anything you can think of that you blv readers will want to know abt! maybe add a short summary or a lil snippet.

so. banners. i personally use canva bc its free<3 my banners are 3000 x 1055 px! ive found tht it works p well. you could probably increase the height more, up to u. just fiddle around with the sizing! the lil dividers are typically 3000 x 40 px for me, but only bc i think 40 is the smallest canva can go lol

“You know, if we were higher up, we’d get a better view,” said Luke.

“You just want a piggy-back ride,” teased Jessica. She meant for the comeback to have more snark, but the usual groan and rolled eyes were replaced by a wry smile. Luke Cage had that effect on her.

“That’s just a bonus,” he said, that million-dollar smile that did elicit an eye roll from Jessica demolishing her resolve.

She raised her arms and said, “Okay, fine, but I’m not quoting Twilight.”

“I’d be insulted if you did,” he quipped.

Any passersby would have gawked at the large, well-muscled Black man climbing on the back of the thin White woman. Their jaw would have dropped further when she bore his weight without difficulty and held him in place as easily as she would a backpack.

As Jessica leaped stories in the air, hopping from balcony to balcony, the night sky became more visible. It was impossible to see stars at night, but if you were high enough, the city lights and the moon made it worth it. Spider-Man could climb walls and sling webs, but Jessica Jones could jump.

By the time they were at the top of the building, only 20 stories high, but still enough to leave Jessica somewhat winded, Luke pulled something out of his bag.

“You like the lamb, right?” In his hands were two perfectly wrapped gyros, protected from the elements in a satchel. He also produced a bottle of whiskey and two rubber rocks glasses he had to have purchased at a fancy camping store. “I was a little concerned about ice, but I know you like it neat.”

Jessica nodded with a strained smile. They were both masters at playing it cool, but when they were together their edges seemed to buff each other out. They had been testing the waters of whatever their relationship was – friends with benefits? More than that? – for a couple of months now. Whatever they were, it was going to be decided tonight.

The bottle made things more difficult. It was good stuff, too. Luke began to pour but Jessica waved him off before he could start on the second she waved him off.

“Actually, I’m holding off tonight,” she said, heart pounding.

Luke froze. This had never happened before. This was Jessica Jones – the woman who came closest to beating Valkyrie in a drinking contest! Now she was politely turning down top shelf whiskey?

“Sure,” he said, still playing it cool, “no problem.”

“And for a while,” she continued.

Now he was staring.

“For, like, eight-ish months.”

Luke’s eyes widened in realization.

“I’m pregnant.”

Silence. Dreaded silence.

Jessica closed her eyes and fists as the words came spilling out. “It’s yours – but it’s okay if you don’t”–

“Jess.”

“I know we didn’t plan this, so I totally understand if you don’t”–

“Jessica.”

“I’m so bad at this, I’m a wreck, I literally told you I was pregnant by turning down hooch” –

She had been looking away. Seeing his face after the initial shock would have been too painful, so she had not noticed him walk up to her until his arms were around her, giving her the warmest hug she had received in her life.

“Jess, I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.”

“But” –

“Do you want me here?”

She scoffed, “Uh, duh! Of course!”

“Then let me stay. I want to be there for little, I don’t know, what about Daniel?”

“Daniel?”

“Yeah, and if it’s a girl, Danielle! See? We already have the name part down!”

She smiled. “You know what? I like it. Dani. Yeah.”

The pair kissed under the moon and city lights, and for the first time in a long while, Jessica’s heart fluttered with the hope that only comes from family.

***Author's note: I ended up spending 35 min on this because I realized I was running out of time (it's kind of obvious) but I needed to get the cuteness in and no time limit could stop me! Also, loved this prompt and loved that it inspired my first JessLuke ficlet!***

Chapter 17 Update

sooo I'm not sure if anyone but @thecatduet422 (bless you, you angel) is on here seeing these updates for Untethered, but I'll keep with them anyway just in case. 

I have finally sat down to write some more today and some interesting things are coming about in regards to the differences between Jess and Luke, and Jess and Tony. I thought that I could perhaps share a little snippet to prove that I am actually working on the chapter, and also as an offering to convey how deeply sorry I am that my phat brain is taking so long lmao

Her authentic self is more than being open with her strength; it’s uncovering just how dark and twisted it is inside her heart, her mind, and why.

And that’s the reason the tension with Tony is different - because he uncovers a little more every time he looks at her, and it’s alarmingly intimate having him steadily seeing further into her like that.

this chapter is gonna be more focused on Jess and Luke and them kind of bonding over their powers, but I'm staying true to my promise of no love triangles! this comparison is, like, the closest it’ll get, and it’s only gonna last a few paragraphs. I do like Jess and Luke’s dynamic, though, and the Reva stuff is so important to Jess’ character, so Luke’s not going to be leaving the scene completely. 

I can’t even give a timeline for when the chapter will be out because my writing motivation is so hard to pin down a lot of the time, but I'm hoping to get myself in a momentum with this dip in today.

I'm changing the flippin' title of IA.

I wanted to stick with what I first posted, but I just... I hated it. I hated it, man.

Now I know why the majority of fic writers go with song lyrics.

Ive always been the type of person to name their project after it was finished, so having to come up with a title with only one chapter ready ended up with... a stupid-ass name.

So! Independently Alone has been changed to AKA Knight. A wayyyy better name if you ask me.

Hey! So heres a fic question: what inspired you to do a Jessica Jones and New Girl crossover? I'm curious cause they are both really different shows, yet the way you wrote it, it works really well!!!

It was a little roundabout, TBH. I joined my first official fan creation event (DareDevil Exchange) and had a lot of ideas for fics that could work with the prompt options my giftee requested (my favorites that I never wrote were Natasha Romanoff/JJ, Valkyrie/JJ, and JJ traveling with the Guardians of the Galaxy and introducing Mantis to this Earther female bonding ritual known as a slumber party [the pillow fight would have been brutal, songs would have been written about it! Songs, I tell you!]). Around that time, my husband and I were rewatching New Girl (he REALLY got me into New Girl) and I kept getting ideas for funny things that could happen if Jessica Jones was involved in the Loft Gang's shenanigans and how she'd play off them dialogue-wise. I ran my ideas by my giftee and she liked my options, but due to some scheduling issues on my end, the JJ/JD fic was the only one I felt I could do justice to in the time I had left.

One thing my giftee wanted was femslash, and while I've never written that, I've always had a deep fondness for the "Someone will die"/"Of FUN!" romantic pairing dynamic. The fact that both shows have leads named Jessica who fit that bill was a serendipitous through-line. Before I decided wholly on which concept to move forward with, the more I thought about a Jessica/Jessica ship, the cuter it got, and I went with it.

Jess Day has a tendency to bring out the best in people through her sunshiny personality and determination, and Jessica Jones also does the same thing through abrasiveness and tough love with the occasional sprinkling of kindness. The idea of them becoming acquaintances, then roommates, then... something more(?) (I mean, I still have to finish chapter 3 of Polka Dots & Leather Jackets 2: Elevator Boogaloo, but I think we all know where this is going) felt strangely right, even though they're very different characters from VERY different shows. They play off each other beautifully in my head, and I'm always happy when that comes through on the page.
